aplman Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 I'm having devilish trouble getting voice commentary and background music to co-exist, so I have concocted a very small project to illustrate what happens. The evidence is confusing ... sometimes Win 7 tells me "the program has stopped working"; other times, both music and voice go into an endless loop after a while - when this happens, the escape may be unable to interrupt the preview, necessitating a kill via Task Manager. It makes no difference whether I use Win 7 32-bit or Win 7 64-bit. No difference whether Preview or the created exe file. play up. No difference whether PTE 6.0 or PTE 6.5 beta 5.Am I doing something outrageously wrong? Could there be something amiss with my MP3 files? Or is this a bug?Ken T (APLman)Sound02_Jun2-2010_15-38-51.zip Quote
fh1805 Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Ken,This isn't going to help you one little bit, pal! Your sequence seemed to play just fine on my Vista PC using PTE v6.5 beta4 in Preview. Slide 1 - 1 piece of music; slide 2 - two pieces of music mixed; slide 3 - one piece of music: four different pieces of music in total.regards,Peter Quote
JEB Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Ken,I don't understand the problem. I have opened your project and find that out of the three music clips only one is loaded (the music) in Project Options. I have also checked under "Customize Slide" but there are no clips there either. Perhaps you can explain further.John Quote
fh1805 Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 John,The others have been added to slides 2 and 3 via "Add Sound" at top right on main window.Peter Quote
xahu34 Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Ken,I played your sequnce with v6.04 on WinXP. The preview did not like the sound comment "AliceSprings01B-AliceSpringsLies.mp3", and it ran into an infinite loop. Then, I loaded both comments into Audacity and exported new versions using the lame mp3 encoder, with the result that everything worked well. By the way: v6.5b5 does not play the sound comments, at all.Regards,Xaver Quote
JEB Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Peter,Thanks, I didn't look there as but should it not also appear on the music tab of "customize slide"?Ken, Peter,In any event I can't get it to play the either of the two narrative clips. Should something be selected in Proj Ops?John Quote
fh1805 Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Ken,Having read the other folks posts I now realise that there should be some voiceover - and I haven't heard any. So is not well for me either! However, a thought has struck me...This isn't by any chance another manifestation of a problem that has happened with other users where the music is stereo but the voice is mono, is it? If it is, the temporary solution is to re-work the voice into a stereo track using Audacity and then use stereo for both the music and the voice. I don't know for sure but I guess converting the music to mono would also work as I think it was mixing both stereo and mono that was causing the problem. So I guess that an all mono combo or an all stereo combo will work but a mix of mono and stereo will not.regards,Peter Quote
Conflow Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Ken,I answered this problem some months ago ~ I cant find the thread just now ~ but like Xavers' Post above I also founda 'loop-back' in one of your Alice Springs Tracks. Your problem ~ you are trying to intergrate a (single-Track) Mono Voice-Over into a (twin-Track) Stereo Music Track this wont work. You need to 'duplicate' the Voice-over in Audacity (import it twice) and then import your Stereo Track. Now you have 3 Tracks in Audacity. Go to Edit-->Select all-->Go to File-->Export (all) as an Mp3 Sound Track.I have 'attached' a Sound File called "Alice Springs-Corrected" in which you will hear the corrected Voice/Music File.Hope this helps...Brian (Conflow).AliceSprings-Corrected.zip Quote
aplman Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 I would like to thank you all for taking the time to look into my problem.I was not aware of the trouble caused by mixing of stereo and mono -- one learns all the time! However, in this case, I have no stereo files. The background music and voice clips are all mono.Thank you Brian for the combined "corrected" file - but I do however want to keep the voice files separate from the background music, so the voice bits can be attached to particular slides, regardless of any adjustments to slide durations (as discussed elsewhere).Any other ideas will be welcome. Thanks againKen T (APLman) Quote

I apologise that I overlooked your reply, when I replied to some of the other responses, but I really want to thank you for your suggestion. Spot on! I resaved those two voice files with AVS Audio Editor, and now all is well, and I am progressing very happily.Hugely grateful to you ...Ken T (APLman) Quote
Igor Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Thanks, I've reproduced this problem with sound comments in v6.0 and v6.5 Beta. We'll fix it soon. Quote
Igor Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 This issue has been completely solved in version 6.5 Beta 6.Download Beta 6:http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/picturestoexe-beta.zipThe problem was in a damaged MP3 audio file used as a sound comment for the 2nd slide. The file is unfinished and ends suddenly. We've added a protection to the code of PTE against such situation. Quote

Conflow Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 For WnSoft Team,Many thanks Igor ~ I was able to replicate Kens 'Sound File-Fault' in Audacity and by re-saving it and re-exporting the File that added the tags to close it properly.I'm nice to know that PTE 6++ has been adjusted to close such a user-fault as this. Thanks again..Brian (Conflow) Quote
