Though both (with and without cloud effects) are "technically" realistic - I find my own perception reacts to the cloud affected versions as being more natural/realistic. This is my "gut reaction", not a case presentation. In your example and in your single-slide-eye-of-coming-storm, the lightning (cloud) effect still seems more natural, even in the rather un-natural picture. Obviously all your effects are very well accomplished.

I agree Jeff. Now Peter has made a PTE of the poem, he could easily use that as his "cover" show.
-
Peter, that is truly a clever, well executed idea! I think Xaver's comment points out a potential dilemma for you. I had made a point of first reading your poem, thus the verbal was ok at your chosen speed. But for a viewer with a non-english native tongue, it could be indeed "too fast." (Xaver is very, very good with English, so that may not even be a factor. Maybe it is just personal preference.) As we all know, the pace of the photos needs to fit both the music and the speed of speech. I don't know if you could slow down both the photo-flow and the talk, and get your desired result. And I don't know that you would want to try, but it could be interesting. Thanks for the enjoyment.

Thanks Bill for your experience. I have not pursued the matter but continue to follow with interest. Experience with an external monitor will also be helpful. Have you thought of trying the early jigsaw puzzles that Lin Evans did with PTE V5 betas? He made two versions - one with high graphic demands, the other with lower. They seem to make a simple narrow test quite easy and useful.
-
Thank you for posting your fun creation! Very well done. It reminds me of some early experiments with V5 that were posted. To me it was quickly apparent that creators with sufficient talent and skill could/can do much the same as what million dollar setups might have been able to do in the past! Thanks again for sharing.

Peter, enjoyed your presentation. I think you are right on the mark you intended. I admit to having read the previous comments and to having visited your website before viewing your AV. So even though I was looking at certain aspects, I thought they all fit. Only the "digestion time" for the rider on ground may have been longer than necessary? I agree that the presentation was more informative than emotional, but that is a worthy direction, no problem. And I think your divisions of the show were an agreeable choice for this one. I think your aperture-based exposures worked well. I like your selective focus on many of your photos and I thought you effectively mixed your panned-with-the-horse shots and those where you let the horse blur vs the background. I also liked your choice of green "turf" for your intro and end. And yes, the intro was valuable to those of us that had no idea what a "point to point" might have been. I at first guess would have thought a local bus route or something. As said, previous to viewing the AV, I visited your website. I found the site very natural and the photos good/interesting enough to give me a favorable bias when I then ran the show. Thanks.

Add text to a saved PTV file in Video Builder...?
LumenLux replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I see that would be a nice convenience. I think when I ran into that before, I had made a background image including the text variations I was seeking. Not as convenient as what you suggest and eliminates the use of the template background. On the other hand, your own background image can be exactly as you might desire. -
Add text to a saved PTV file in Video Builder...?
LumenLux replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
Gary, I'm not sure if I understand - Because the window where you normally add your title text does allow multiple lines. Just select the default text, click properties. There you can add multiple title lines by hitting Enter key after each desired line. If I'm missing the track, please ask again. -
Barry, I think your integration of fractals into a PTE sequence is excellent. Some years ago I was excited by fractals and thought I might make an interesting PTE presentation of them. At that level, I found it was interesting and compelling to create the fractals but not very interesting to then just watch them displayed in the PTE format as I was trying. I think your Albedo 0.39 is a very creative and effective use and certainly could stimulate ideas from others. Thanks for sharing.

Dave - I'll add my applause on this one. Just on personal appeal, this is your best yet (for me.) I understand (have experienced) what you said about starting to do all sorts of magical animation only to reach the realization that it isn't the result or appeal that I envisioned. Then hopefully we back off and realize that the extreme is not always the place we want to be. What I am trying to say is that I think what ever you went through, you ended up with a very good choice of animation. Your blends added to the effectiveness of the animation and the result was very appealing. One (of many) measures of AV success is when a presentation awakens in the viewer their own "similar" experience and they then identify with and enjoy what you are sharing. Your technical skill here allowed you to reach my own, limited but enjoyable, experience in small planes. Specifically flying in some kind of early cub that made me feel that even if the engine failed it could bring me down softly! Good work. And yes, your on-location sound and the background music - perfect fit.

Today I have received numerous "returned mail" notices for mail I never sent. Best I can understand, some insidious infection has been set up which is using my pc to propagate trash solicitations and make them appear as if they come from me. I bring up the subject here for a couple of reasons. 1. I know and trust any help that will come through this forum. 2. My email address that is on the deviously generated mailings is my email address that is mainly used only for correspondence related to this forum and Beechbrook. So I am wondering if my machine picked up the problem via one of these sites. Have any of you had similar trouble? Or have any of you received extreme junk as if it came from me? And most importantly, how can I eliminate the problem? At the moment, I have disabled my outgoing server for that mail account, but I do want to actually get rid of the infection and eliminate any future recurrences.

Stormy Day Here Today so Little Experiment
LumenLux replied to Lin Evans's topic in General Discussion
Yes, very good, quite realistic. I personally like it better than the waterfalls, which are also well done - just not as realistic imho. I think the bouncing precipitation is a good bit of realism. Is your "how to" available on this one? -
And Ray, seeing as you mention hard drives - How important is RAID capability now - for serious video editing only - or? If it is really desirable, what are the options to implement?
-
Your experience is a pleasant surprise. Several months ago I had wondered about the little units' ability with the PTE graphics. I don't remember now the details, but I had concluded the O&A of PTE Version 5 would be beyond the Asus power. I wonder now if other PTE users have tried it? Thanks for sharing your experience.

Here again, another Thank You Igor and Team. Your consistent work over the years has again paid off in every way. It is rare for a software to be always improving and reliable through it all. Thank you all - again.

Can someone please help me with the timeline?

If I am understanding correctly the "problem" - If you don't want to combine the songs into one .mp3 file, you could in Project/Music, simply add the Song #2 multiple times there to equal the total desired length of the show. If you still have a problem of song #1 cutting off too soon - You should be able to simply increase the duration of the slide(s) on the screen up to the point where the sound #1 should end. -
Igor, In Release Candidate #2, is this a bug or ok? I have a 4-slide project file. I can not highlight Slide #2 in main screen horizontal view. (And therefor can not choose "customize slide" for slide #2 in main screen.) If I go into O&A screen via slide #3, I can then (in O&A screen only) go to Slide #2. Slide #2 is set with Effect time to 0, and slide duration to 1 ms. Editing here: I see now that if I delete slides #3 and #4, then Slide #2 will highlight in main screen and allow "customize slide" access. Probably this is easy for you to see why, and say whether it is bug or ok. The project .pte file is attached here in zip file. MemorialDay4Q.zip

Nice work Mark! I have seen myriad photos of Antelope Canyon, and yours hold up as a quality interpretation of the subject. Though I consider Antelope Canyon to be a close destination for me, I have never visited, photographed yet. I first heard of it in the early days of the internet via a photographer from Germany (or was it France?). I have since realized that many of the photographic "shrines" in the western USA get almost more attention from abroad than from those of us here in the "neighborhood." That said, your presentation shows again that the area is an attractive path for any photographer. And I have shot enough in similar slot canyons to know how good you did in this one. I think you did marvelous without using a tripod. And I will tell you there are many photographers, who do less well - with or without a tripod. And some of those slot canyons offer & require positions that a tripod can't work anyway. Thanks for sharing your experience via PTE.

Amid many good comments, yours speaks to much of my own sentiments. I will venture to say further that AV in America (as far as I know) has never had a narrow, specific definition. I dare say, to most Americans, Audio Visual means simply a presentation or even a product utilizing both audio and visual medium for the senses. From my years in this forum it of course has become apparent that in other parts of the world the AV defintion has been much more developed, promoted, debated, loved and hated. I agree Barry that the original assertion may have been intended as a put down. And I guess the snob claim could be that common folk who choose to label their work as "AV" are trying to hijack the snob-elite's property by using the term. I think it would be simpler at this point for the snob-elite to add a qualifying term to their chosen narrow specialty. That would seem more productive than trying to get the rest of the world to lay off using their term. Finally though, I could understand the original "put down" to be a facetious, tongue-in-cheek, joke to a friend.

Good to read you Bart. Glad your surgeries have left you on the right track now. Be sure to let us know when your website is ready to go.

Thanks Tony. The intro music is "Radja Song" from World Mix Vol.6 from FreePlayMusic. The main track is Brian Tyler's "The Ring of Paul" from Children of Dune cd. Regarding the white deposits - Although I have seen similar deposits, I have never seen so much as I found in the stream beds or flood courses as I found here. We ourselves had more questions about it than answers. My friend's wife volunteered to taste the white stuff as we all thought is possibly was some form of salt. She said it did not taste salty. I did run into a Canadian geologist at another stop. He overheard me asking about it and said it is an "evaporate" and named some of the chemical content (which did not stick in my mind!) The white deposit is not a crystal structure but more like flour consistency. The "flour", even when totally dry on the large boulders, is quite slippery under foot. I'm glad you enjoyed the presentation - thanks for your comment.

Thank you for your comment on the photos/presentation. I'm sure you will enjoy anywhere in the vast area that you visit. Grand Canyon itself is quite a distance away. However Bryce Canyon is very close on one end of the Grand Staircase National Monument. On the other end of the Grand Staircase area is Torrey. Torrey is a little oasis of a town in this arid land. Torrey is actually right at the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. If you are going to Bryce and Torrey you very possibly will follow Highway 12, which is a spectacular scenic drive - especially the "hog's back" section between Escalante and Boulder. So keep your head up and enjoy it! I will say though that Grand Staircase is not so easily "packaged" for "stop here, look here, photo here" enjoyment. You will get a much expanded feel for the land if you are able to do a bit of "in the dirt" exploring. It might be compared to my looking at the surface of the ocean vs. your diving in the depths. And when you are home, it would be fun to see here what impressed you.

I decided to forgo a macho guys hike and seek out some gentler, kinder routes with my wife. We and another couple had 4 days to explore the 1.7 million acres of Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument. Don't worry, I am not going to present a million acres or even the hundreds of photos taken. But I have put together a 6-minute segment, Earth Exposed, which covers only about 90 minutes of our explorations. You can download the presentation here on Beechbrook, where Bill managed to post it before going on an extended photo-shoot himself. Please share your thoughts after viewing. You know - weak points, strong points, enjoyed or ?

Barry, that's the kind of presentation that makes me want to call it my Scotland - though I have little claim to it. Great views and feelings. Composition - image quality - presentation. The right places at the right times. I think your positioning of images for your transitions is most effective. The third-images created just flat out work. I think one of my favorite flows was the water-into-clouds, water-fall pool to sky, great. Side note: Your increased participation in this forum has allowed me to more fully appreciate your presentations although I have admired them for years. Thank you.

Yes, Ron, you can know that likely all who remember you also appreciate you. I think it was the cordiality of all the early members that helped set the prevailing tone and success of the PTE Forum today.
