TheDom Sharing Place deleted by my provider...
LumenLux replied to thedom's topic in General Discussion
Dominique that is beyond reason. I think Lin is correct in a possible route for you to take. Two questions: 1. Do you have everything on your computer also so you can "easily" upload to a new provider? 2. With your problem provider, what language do they use? I mean are they English, French, Indian? Any chance that communication is part of the problem? -
How very true it is! Thanks Lin for the precision statement. And to think Igor figured this out before any of the "big boys."

www.trendmicro.com/cwshredder/ should get it for you.

Welcome back Bill. You may already be aware, but I think you can still indicate in your forum settings whether you want email notification of every post or just specific topics, or, just for topics you originate or comment on.

No, you did not misunderstand me. I am interested in ideas in either/any direction. I am interested in the creativity of some you who are also extremely good with the mechanics of V5. So if you do want to do anything with V5 features on any of the wave photos, please feel free to have fun and share it with us. Your input in this forum is valued by everyone.

Paul, in my view, a very pleasing presentation. Great photography playing light to perfection. Use of V5 movement useful, not obtrusive. I liked the movement-assisted clouds in the lead-in to the Rochester closeup. Thanks for sharing this one.
-
Lee, I played briefly with a similar idea but the view as if through the front windshield riding down a dirt road. My brief attempts did not yield anything I liked. I think some of our "imitate video" ideas are not really that useful. Part of the challenge for V5 users will continue to be to learn which effects "work" vs. "can be done." But for some of us, the only way to learn will be by trying. Frankly, I hope someone will show "going down a bumpy road" can be a useful template or at least technique.

Although RAR may be very good compression system, in America many PC users aren't set up to "automatically" open it as they are with a Zip file. Therefor some RAR's die on the vine with potential recipients of your show.

I don't think this is a bug. I'm not sure if it is the way it should be. I know I don't fully understand the perspective adjustment for zoom in the O&A window in V5. But here is an observation. The attached project has one slide. The photo zooms out and then repeats per the "repeat show" option. 1.If the "perspective correction for zoom" box is checked, the zoom-out goes all the way out, as intended. The next cycle of the zoom starts while the zoomed out image is at it's widest intended angle. 2. If the "perspective correction for zoom" box is not checked, the zoom-out cycle begins again before the first zoom-out reaches it's widest angle. You can notice the difference clearly by a person on the left that appears in case (1) above, but never appears in case (2)above. With the O&A window open, if I use preview there, I can see that in the specified time for the slide, the zoom-out does not get as far "back" during the allotted time for the slide. Is this the way it "should be"? I guess my concern is, that if we use the check box to turn "perspective correction" on or off - we are also changing the amount of zoom if we leave the slide duration the same. If instead, we change the slide duration to result in identical focal lengths at zoom conclusions, are we really changing the "perspective" or not? Or - can someone make this more understandable? Thanks again Lin. Now how about Keith and theDom? Are you (or anyone) working on this wave action thought? I know you both said you can't promise a time table. That is fine, I understand. I'm eager to talk about Lin's technique and my approach and I have some other questions. However, I would prefer to see what else is being done first.

Can you create an Introduction before a DVD Menu
LumenLux replied to mightec's topic in General Discussion
I think so Ron. As long as the DVD burning software has the option to auto-run your intro show first, instead of the menu. -
Can you create an Introduction before a DVD Menu
LumenLux replied to mightec's topic in General Discussion
I think I am understanding your request a little differently than our other helpful members. I believe you can simply put several PTE shows into DVD format and put them all onto your single DVD. Your "Intro" show is one of the shows burned to your DVD. The settings you need to make in your DVD authoring program are : 1. Designate which show you want to "auto start" instead of auto starting to the DVD Menu. 2. Set the DVD program to return to the DVD Menu after each show is played. If that is what you are seeking, I am quite sure (but not able to try it right now) that you can do this with Video Builder as it stands as part of PTE Version 5 Beta #8u. -
Thanks Lin! I have just downloaded and will certainly look right now. Then I will try to go to bed and respond tomorrow. I know without looking, your production will be great. Of course it deserves a better response than that. I had read with compassionate, misery-sharing amusement, your late night crashing due to memory overload. So I thank you even more for not giving up.

Jeff, I really enjoyed this show too. And as you told me about my "Feedin' the Beef" show, your show now has returned the favor of making me want to immediately get "out there" again right pronto! It is always a temptation this time of year to head anywhere into south-east Utah, and obviously into your neighboring Colorado. Like Al, I was pleasantly surprised that your quality from scanned prints appears ever-so-good as your more recent photography. Also, thanks for pointing out how much more enjoyment we can find via PTE vs. some of our 4x6 prints. As you described in your Author's Notes on Beechbrook, I too have in the past shot roll after roll of great shots of mountains and desert and red-rock country - only to have little interest in the standard 4x6 prints. I remember looking at such prints in photo albums and thinking "ok, so you were there". But that was about the extent of my reaction to my own shots. PTE, on a 19" screen brings more life and reality into a scene than most prints under 20x30! Thanks for sharing your show instead of mailing me the prints.

Keven, with the paid versions you can presently be running both V4.48 and V5 Betas on the same machine. If you purchase now you are buying Version 4.48 but you can continue to use V5 Betas. I'm quite sure Version 5 Final ( with pan, zoom, etc. will be a free upgrade when it is ready. My recollection is that Video Builder will be included at a slight extra cost. Those who feel they have no need for Video Builder won't have to buy it, but I expect most users of PTE will want to have Video Builder too. Video Builder is a direct result of requests from PTE users who have such great confidence in Igor's approach to software.

Kevin -Welcome to the forum. Judging from this being your second post, I "guess" you may be new to PTE? Or you may be a seasoned pro with it. I only mention that because years ago, when some of us tried DVD's for our PTE shows, I personally decided the quality did not justify the effort in most cases. It was "fun", but the sacrifice of quality was just too much. Since that time, DVD software has come a long way and especially PTE has come a long way with the "for DVD" function. Now, at this very moment, I think the quality of PTE to DVD/PTE is excellent. I know "excellent" is personal judgement and can't be precisely quantified. But I "think" most PTE users who have used and do use several different DVD production programs, find the quality of PTE's Video Builder (DVD) to be better quality picture than any other software. If there are variations of that opinion, certainly we will hear other sincere appraisals here. One other point of comparison I will point out - I see very many"wedding videos". In most cases these include video camera footage and nice still photography or snapshots. Depending on the producer's talent, the camcorder footage looks really nice but the video presentation of the still photography is more similar to YouTube than to the quality of PTE! I hope this opinion is helpful. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, Marjolaine! It seems you have already had a nice welcome to the amazing things you can do with PTE - especially when you also have talent - as you obviously do. I think your presentation is excellent. I would probably never seek out a festival of decorated eggs. But your presentation was so well done, it was better than me being there. Your photography is very clear and nice compositions. I think you made a great presentation of your photos. I even liked the song, which seems to be equivalent to the American "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly". Probably every language has a similar song? Congratulations on such a nice result of your "learning" .

I have made myself a short demo of one simple way to use PTE V5 to put some motion in photos of ocean waves. No rush on anybody else, but I do hope some of you will try the ideas you have had and will share them. The short demo is here

Maya Spirit is a short (4 minute) glimpse of my very brief visit to the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico in March 2007. As our 40th wedding anniversary neared I decided we should do something bigger than our more typical anniversary visit to our local public library. Our entire experience was wonderful and varied. This short AV covers lightly only the Mayan ruins of Tulum, on the Caribbean Sea, and Coba, inland about 30 miles in the jungle. Coming back with so many fun photos, I have thought of how many different approaches there can be to sharing the experience via the capabilities of Pictures To Exe software - especially now with Version 5. This short sequence is one of four different approaches I have played with for different portions of the experience. I consider the four as "demo's to myself." If you are interested in viewing the other three demo's, they can be downloaded individually as follows: MayaFlow, MayaJardin, and MayaWaves. Or, all four sequences can be downloaded in the single zip file: Maya.zip The sequences range from 45 seconds to 4 minutes. Comments are welcome on any of them. Two of the sequences are built on the templates so kindly made and shared by our talented forum friend at his site:TheDom Sharing Place Thank you again for all you contribute to this forum. Related to another topic in the forum, MayaWaves (above) is one simple way of using V5 motion on ocean waves. I guess comments in that regard might fit well in that topic at:Wave Action To best of my understanding, some archaeological evidence suggests the Maya had started to build ceremonial architecture by approximately 1000 BC and certainly by 400 BC. At one of the sites I was surprised to read that there was still fighting among fragmented Mayan groups there as late as 1847! Today much of the local Yucatan population is Mayan. They consider themselves Mayan first and Mexican second. Such is the "spirit of the Maya."

Dom, thank you for sharing another well done template. I first thought of the irony of using an old-fashioned film strip to show a modern event like man walking on the moon. Then I realized the moon landing was 38 years ago! Your film strip action is very accurate to the movement of the real thing. And I am reminded that I still have a film strip projector here at home. At least I haven't had to upgrade it every couple of years.
-
I too could use the exercise, any chance of getting the template from you? (Igor sure has stirred up a lot of cleverness. Your good work is the latest example.)

Here are links to 7 zip files of the ocean wave shots. The photos are taken from 7 different camera locations. Some series of shots show some camera movement. A couple of series have tilted horizon. And some shots have salt water spray on the lens. Each series may have more shots than you will ever need, but I don't know what ideas you might come up with for V5 use of these photos. All photos are 1024 x685. Waves#1 33 photos 14mb Waves#2 28 photos 12mb Waves#3 17 photos 7mb Waves#4 26 photos 10mb Waves#5 46 photos 17mb (horizon problem) Waves #6 18 photos 7mb (good) Waves #7 21 photos 9mb (sloped horizon, but steady shots) I have now "played" with V5 on these enough to be even more interested in what you may come up with. From the discussion, I can imagine a wide range of possibilities - from other than myself.
-
Thank you each for the interest. In a couple of hours I will post some series of the waves (mulitple files)for downloading for your use. It will be very interesting to see what ideas can materialize.

Lin - when you so candidly wrote that you might be "bored" (re: your helicopter animation), I could not resist making this post which I had been considering. Recently, with PTE V5 in mind, I took quite a few rapid-fire shots of ocean waves. I took them from several angles, with multiple exposures from each angle. Using rocks as support, rather than a tripod, some show minor camera movement. My idea of course was to try some V5 O&A features on the waves. But I found my first playing with the photos to be not very satisfying. So I am wondering if you or anyone else would like to take a crack at assembling a "successful" animation of some kind utilizing the waves. I have tried briefly with animation, zoom, pan etc. but have not hit a real pleasing effect. Maybe someone has already worked along these lines. I would love to see what anyone has done or might try to do. If anyone expresses any interest to try, I will zip some wave shots together for anyone interested.
-
To quote a famous PTE user "LOL" ! WOW is again the operative word for your animation. Watching the chopper I was thinking it was perfect except that the grass ought to move. Then whoa, you do "move" the grass. I should have known. I think it does bring up an interesting thought though - As we use animation to imitate movement in a real scene - Does the fact that we use some minor animation cause the viewer to require or expect more? I think it once again comes back to the author needing to decide what he is trying to accomplish in any given instance.
