I Don't Understand All I Know About This - LOL
LumenLux replied to Lin Evans's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
I wish I said that. I agree. I have never seen a program that seemed to present such a "do-able" challenge. Thanks for generously sharing your explorations. The music is perfect and I forgot to mention how good Saturn appears. -
Yes, I will take a more thorough approach. Thanks again.

Brian, I too thank you. Your "direction" led me to the solution. I did DL and use your recommended Disk Cleaner. I don't think I learned to use it completely but intend to go back and become better acquainted with it. When I used it, I did not find how to "direct" it to my specific external problem drive. I assume when I ran it that it worked on all connected drives. But I also did not notice a list of garbage removed nor a log of what it had done. Likely my excitement to move on as I was being able to see what was taking up 24 gig of space. Also your instructions to "show hidden files" led to my success. I had previously set folder options to do that but when I went in as you suggested, I realized there is an additional option to show hidden "system" files. Muc of the 24 gig of "junk" appeared to have been part of an earlier backup or backup attempt. The files included a very large "chk" file found type - like from old dos scandisk style. Also, many files seemed to relate to Uninstall aspects of Service Pack 2 foul-ups. I know you were busy, so a speciall thanks for the concise instructions.

Not bad Now, noting the time stamp of your post, my suspicion is confirmed that you now know V5 so well you can make shows in your sleep! Thanks -

It does fine here Lin. As the 2nd block popped out - I had the feeling - Is the solar system next? -
Hey, it is fun to see a whole presentation by you. I commented already at your own website, but will copy most of the same here. Dom I much appreciated your show. (The download took about 15 minutes.) Someone in the PTE Forum offered some constructive criticism of so many formats and movements you used. And your inclusion of many people. I can agree only to a degree. I always try to think of the purpose or purposes of the presentation. Often there are multiple and sometimes conflicting purposes. I think for many authors, (me included) it is not necessary to make multiple versions of a show to please all the possible audiences. I think the length of presentation was just fine and expect if you give your show to other trip participants they would like it even longer. I understand your huge technical ability and of course that PTE V5 offers much to experiment. I think you did a pretty good job aesthetically and I expect you wil get even better as you do more presentations. I think your Libya landscape is a natural for use of panning. I also thought the stationary stacked panoramas were useful if used on limited occasions. I think the split screens (photo left and right) were useful for some slides and less for others. I liked the split screen (L&R) for the camel close up and for the lizard with the other small creatures on screen to the right. As a novelty, I liked the stationary background scene where you then changed the various trekkers as they "passed" in the foreground. Beyond the "technical" and "artistic" factors, I enjoyed the "experience" of your journey. It was very interesting to me that some of the photos seemed like they could be right here in my Utah, USA desert - if you remove the camels. On the other hand, your traveled land somehow seemed more "unyielding" and certainly the sand seemed more "unending" than what I have ever experienced. It was interesting to see the rock-art. Are those genuine ancient drawings on the rock? We have "ancient" indian drawings on some of our locations but I had never thought about such that might be where you were. Bottom line, I enjoyed seeing the landscape and the rather candid insight of a guided vacation tour as you took. Thanks for sharing your experience.

John I have no idea what has happened. My only observation is that I currently have a "similar" problem. I share it here briefly only in hopes that maybe "someone" might see some possible common cause or factor, or better yet solution to your problem or mine. I have an external drive that I have cleared all but one visable folder and subfolder. If I look at "properties of the folder, it says there are 455kb. I can not "see" any files at all in the two folders. If I look at "properties" of the drive itself, it says there are 24 gigabytes still in use! If I try to delete the visable folder(s) I get "can't access" message and see no change. As you, I have done disk scan etc. I then used a backup program to backup the drive. The backup file indeed backs up 24 gig. I thought perhaps then I could restore and see what is really there. The restoration however seems to be perfect - even to the point of revealing nothing but the same two folders! I guess I wonder if your missing files might also still be "there" with no way to see them or access them. Hopefully, maybe Brian (conflow) or someone can explain what we need to know.

Thanks Lin, that will get me started. (Maybe)' I do thank you and others who continue to explore as an "advance party", the world of PTE V5.
-
Well Lin, you certainly are good at messing around! The somewhat soft background is perfect (intentional) choice to set off the 3-D appearance. As Ken mentioned, your cube motion is perfectly smooth. Is this sequence one you can share the project file on?

Thanks Jeff for the considered reply. Now I will have to pull up your show and watch it again to make the questions and answers more meaningful. I won't mind doing that at all. I had to smile about your dog experience with the ranger. I think most the rangers are good and often reasonable. But I too have found they don't necessarily want to hear a visitor's logic about a "law." On a different note regarding a ranger - On my last venture into Canyonlands, I was viewing a map and I asked the ranger about a certain area or route: "Is there anything worthwhile to see in that area?" He righteously retorted: "Have you ever seen anything here that is not worthwhile. I immediately agreed with him and acknowledged my thoughtless question.

I always enjoy your photo journal shows. This well done presentation reveals another layer of you and your talent. I watched most of the presentation thinking it was about the daylilies. I don't think I agree philosophically with your stated conclusion, but I like the unexpected twist to end the presentation. Was the mostly shallow depth of field accomplished in camera or with PS blur?

Al, my perception agrees with yours. Additionally, I think when in main PTE screen, the "loaf of bread" preview button seems to give same result as the timeline preview.

Just when PTE V5 Beta has DVD capability, my DVD player/burner has critical problem. The DVD player/burner is in a combo unit with a VCR. The VCR does not seem to be involved in the problem. The DVD player will play the visual just fine, but a terrible whistle/screeach static is all that one hears. An audio CD sounds fine, but the audio on any DVD (PTE produced video or commercial DVD) is not even useable. Any helpful ideas?

Nice presentation Cindy. I especially like the way you composed the show. Your "farewells" at the end express well your message. That is the highlight as I view it. Your ability to get those shots shows the advantage of being an "insider" and knowing what to expect and capture. I read Lin's comment on sound before I viewed the show. I expected to agree with him. But having read your explanation and experienced the ending when viewing - I think maybe your solution works quite ok, maybe the best in this instance. Bottom line is you and your Idaho neighbors can feel good about it all. And I am quite sure your imported friends feel good too.
-
Very good Lin, thank you. As you say, the "puzzle" usage is a very narrow use, but your concept is an important one to remember as we develop our "habits" in PTE5. My so-far brief journeys into Ver.5 are comprised of so much "exploration", I wonder if I will ever establish any "habits" in it.
-
You are right Ron - I don't know if I have ever used the mouse button options. More commonly I am trying to remember to avoid an unintentional exit or interruption. But your reminder is helpful and if the author is likely to be also the main projectionist, then the benefit can be had without the risk I usually consider. Another wonderful choice in PTE.

Nice work Gilio. Your website and your Promo are both very well done. Your Promo shows some very smooth combination of effects. It seems as PTE users perfect the use of PTE 5, the effects will be less and less obvious to the typical outside viewer. Then the show maker may get satisfaction for a "nice" show, but his skill in applying the "effects" will no longer be specifically commended. Of course this accomplishes what most of us want and should answer critics concerns of "overuse." (This comment applies to all use of PTE5, not specifically to your show. I know your english is good, so I hope this comment does not confuse too badly.)

Ever since you first posted these execellent comparison demos/tests, I have wondered as to what all the differences are that you implemented to lighten the video card load. Can you elaborate? I apologize if I have missed an already-included explanation.
-
Thanks Ken. It is nice to have such a capable and willing "librarian." I hope you are the highest paid employee of this forum.

No ideas from here right now. But I think what you already have is very good and would be quite popular for certain shows. Now a personal question for you: Are you in AV as a professional, or more as a serious hobbiest? You really add a lot to this forum. Thank you.

Lin, Al, thedom, - You are so full of ideas and talent. I had seen Steve Rideout's version (good as was) but you guys have very quickly built on each others improvements so as to have a real fun opening. As, thedom said, it is fun and productive to build on each others ideas. Thank you each for sharing. Just for the record, Ron,I had no idea what a "safety curtain" was - facetious or not.

As did I yesterday. Thanks.

No doubt about it. It is far easier to joke about it than to even appreciate it. I must say though, I think your presentation is nothing short of masterful! The gorgeous images are absolutely presented to perfection. I think your "gentle" choreography is a pefect understatement of the power inherent in every image. I liked your variety of movement, reversals and all. Music superb - I was trying to imagine how one could construct a climax in a sequence like this. I would really be interested in the reaction of more viewers - especially those who have honestly suggested that movement can be overdone and should be used only when it truly enhances the presentation. Realizing that art is still subject to oppinion, I would wonder if there are any viewers who feel this is "over the top" for their taste. I think this kind of presentation would be worthy of showing as a pre-feature at a major film theater. It would do the audience a lot of good if they could pay attention to something that thoughtful but with no punchline. Thanks again.

You are right Lin. But it might be easier if we just work to comprehend before we worry to apprehend. Thanks for the stimulating work you share.

Al, I admit to only half understanding half of this. But - What you are currently un-able to accomplish with the rectangle - can you accomplish it using the 0-opacity image? If so - Does the differing results with image vs. rectangle actually give ultimately more possibilities which someone might prefer one or the other in a given instance (purpose)?
