Perhaps the "problem" with the music is that I do have a "locked in" mental association between this music and other visuals. Was it The Benny Hill Show that made the music so well known? I think maybe a music piece, a little less "frantic" but still light-hearted would be even better.

Thanks for sharing this little show. I think it is good to see what people are doing with PTE. There are many good reasons for using PTE. Probably the most appreciated is for a fun way to show snapshots to family and friends. Two preferences that are related to each other: I would prefer a different music. And I think the pace was a little two quick when reading must be done. Fun sequence anyway.

Greetings Alan - you make an easy request - try this: Project options/Main, To the right of Custom Synchronization - try checking the box that reads: Permit the control of show. PTE works very well with pausing/starting, and forward/backward, using the navigation bar even in an auto-synched show. Let us know if the above suggestions don't solve it for you.

Ken, after initially playing and exploring a little bit, I did let your Jukebox run from start to finish - all years. I did not notice any problems. I had forgot to mention how much I appreciated the photos and what good choices you made on those. Though many songs were favorites or familiar, some had performers who were yet unknown to me. Just for continued explorations, have you considered loading a DVD full of mp3's and running the show from the DVD instead of HD?

Grrreat Ken! Your Jukebox is a superb outcome of your "whim." Just shows to go you what you can do when you get those trains out of your daily life. Your wife gets a new computer and custom made software. Your grandkids get PTE shows categorized in 6 dimensions. And we get a whiz-bang coin-slot to our musical past. I think your layout is perfect - very clean and functional. Cleverly you have any song end with the mouse tap to start the next one. Who would have believed in 1960 in the burger den that you would someday have all the songs from all the jukeboxes in America for half a century all contained in a very portable jukebox sitting on your lap. And that you had, with simple tools, designed and built! Your girl isn't starry-eyed enough with that song? just click on the next one! I did, a time or two manage to tangle the shows as I too-eagerly moved from song to song. But I think it only did it because my security settings made a window pop up for authorization the first time I ran each year. Finally, I vote with you on the years you chose to have active. Those were the right years. I'm not sure they were alwaysthat innocent, but they were the prime years for (non-angry) rock & roll. You managed to select several of my favorites. Now we'll see if my grandkids are interested in what Papa used to listen to. Thanks Nickles!

A truly enjoyable show. You have a very good base - ie the execellent photography. You must be a patient man or have a very good scanner or both. Scanned shows don't always turn out so good as yours. I agree your handling of verticals is one of the better ways. It allows you to keep the interest of the vertical, which is why you used the view in the first place. I didn't time it, but it seemed you wisely gave a slide a longer duration if there were multiple frames in it. And finally, the music allowed you to pace the photos just right as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for the experience.

I have even had problems sometimes between "date Created" and "date Modified" headings. No problem Gary for the "false" alarm. Lots of good reminders here. Next question - is the show one that you will be able share to this group? -

Sounds possible that you did erroneously delete the original files. Is it possible you deleted the originals rather than the ones in the template? Take another look in the created template folder just to make sure. Yes, "boxig", in this forum has made a utility to capture your photos from the PTE.exe show as it runs. But my understanding is it is a screen capture, therefor not the original file size etc. After looking again in your Template folder, try right-clicking on your recycle bin /explore to see if they are there to be retrieved. Also, in looking in the template folder, confirm it is the right one by the sound file you used. Or did you intend to dump that also from the template? -

Gary, I think your photos are "safe" if I understand your description. When you use PTE template function, it creates a new folder which includes everything you have used in the PTE project. The new template folder does include copies of your photos from perhaps numerous folders that originally contained them. The photos are also still in the original folders unless you deleted them. PTE leaves them untouched. But if you did delete them, the copies are of course in the template folder so you can copy those back to anywhere you want. -
Hi lt, Thanks for your input. Your reaction brings me a smile and a feeling of dismay. For I have clearly "missed the mark." I never intended the "demo" to be an artistic display or very entertaining show. But in "experimenting", I had learned more about PTE and felt the sequence could be used for some useful discussion. The reason I smile as I read your post is because you wrote it so well. If you are in a forgiving mood sometime, (when you have forgotten the stress I caused you,) let us go take some photos and have some fun.

Welcome to the forum. I don't know what is causing your crashing. If you have not already done so, I would try to identify what individual slide or music comes into play at the trouble point. Then in your Project file, exchange the suspect item with a different slide or song that is working elsewhere in your show. If that makes a difference, you can then focus on correcting the guilty party.

Having been baffled in the wee hours last night, now in the clear of day, I am still lacking in understanding of a PTE feature. In the main window, with slides thumbnails showing across the bottom, the slide(s) copy feature seems to act erratic. If someone can explain what I am missing, that will be better than having to inform Igor that it doesn't work "correctly." As a diagnostic tool, I did the following. Start with one slide. I unchecked the "show image" box. I used object editor text to make a big "1' in the middle of the screen. I copy/paste so I have 10 identical slides in the line. Using object editor I changed each slide so I now have slides #1-#10 which run as a quick show in preview. Now, I high-light all 10 slides in the slide window. Push Ctrl-C to copy and then Ctrl-V to paste. The window now shows 20 slides. I use preview. Preview run displays slides #1 - #9, leaves out #10 and then displays the final #1 - #10 and THEN the "missing" #10. The slide thumbnails line shows #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,10. On other similar tests, the resulting sequence appears to be a "flip" of the original 10 slides. So the result is #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ! I think it may have to do with what PTE deems to be the INSERT POINT. But I don't understand how to dictate or understand where that point will be in all cases. It now seems to me that the Paste function is intended to always paste to position PRECEDING the first highlighted slide. But one can easily confuse things by not realizing a lone slide that remains highlighted or by pasting when NO slide is highlighted. I guess especially confusing to me is the following scenario: Ten slides numbered 1-10. Ctrl-C. Click outside the slides, to work for a moment, therefor nothing is highlighted. Ctrl-V. The resulting sequence is the 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,. Anyone able to share any light on this specific or the whole Copy/Paste process? Clearly it would only be a concern in relatively few sequences we construct. In the case of my "Water".exe demo, it was making me nuts.

Joy, I won't dispute what you see, but it is certainly different than my experience. When I watch one of my PTE shows on DVD, I am usually impressed how good the quality is on my tv. I also wish it were as good as the .exe file on a good pc and monitor or projector. On a couple of occasions, I have helped friends using other DVD implentations of still photos. The resulting DVD has not been up to PTE visual quality. I also know that from PTE, DVD results vary between DVD authoring programs and settings. If we are wrong here, Lin can steer us back. I guess I would suggest you look a little further into whether you can get improved results with PTE. If you can, then you can still utilize the smoothest transitions and the many other features you enjoy in PTE.

Geoff, your Lions is really easy to enjoy. I really like your title and the first few transitions. That is I think the similar horizons with changing subjects and details -of the first several slides work very well. Your title text, as windows to the scene is perfect. What is your technique for this? I too liked the distribution of various views of the animals (wide, close, etc.) I felt the animals were realistic. I especially like the lion in the tree and one of the in-your-face lion shots. I imagine the photo-safari is quite an experience. And one to not attempt as a do-it-yourself project?

Thanks for your interest everyone. I think it is useful. As for the visable cursor, that is my mistake. I had checked "Hide cursor at startup" thinking that would avoid it. But the other field, "Auto hide mouse cursor after:" then referenced the default "3" seconds. Thus the cursor will be hidden anytime it is left for 3 or more seconds. But it is awakened of course by any mouse movement. Properly, to have no cursor available during the show, I should have selected the field to say "Hide mouse cursor during show." I think though, Ron, what you suggested is what I actually had. It is my understanding that the settings mentioned above, are irrelevant to the Startup screen. No matter what settings are for the actual sequence, the use of the Startup screen will allow the cursor for that screen only. All much simpler than writing this. (I should have posted captured screens.) Ken, you are correct that one reason for using the mosaic effect was symbolic to snowing. I also felt the granular transitions fit well with some of the texture of some scenes - such as the "old" snow that had weathered the summer. But I am aware that it is a matter of personal appeal and I like to hear everyone's opinion. I think from the posted comments we have two "nay" and two "aye." And as stated earlier, I like it less when viewed on my pc with lower graphic capability. Also, my faster PC has LCD monitor which may handle it better than my CRT on the older pc. Patrick, your experience of non-smooth slide/sound behavior, is the one that is least understood my me. Could you possiby run the show on another computer or two to see how the results may vary?

Hmmm - there seems to be a problem(s) - not sure why. I'm wondering if this show makes heavy demands on the system. Possibly, those who have commented could tell me the relevant power specs of your PC's? I'm especially puzzled by what Patrick experienced. But now geoff has me curious too. I wonder if I, being weary-eyed and short on sleep, uploaded the wrong final file? I will verify if that could be the case. Assuming that the correct version was uploaded and being run by all of us, let see if we can figure this out. The hesitation/catchup experienced by Patrick, as well as the too-long yellow, don't seem to be explained when I examine the custom sync timeline nor when I look at the .pte text file. The effects durations and intervals are set individually for slides 1, 2, and 3. Slides 4 -38 are all evenly spaced and equal transitions. According to what I read in the .pte: Slide #1: Time=8 TimeMS=467 Slide #2 Time=6 TimeMS=100 Slide #3 time=5 Time MS =133. Slides # 4-38 as I read on the time line, intervals are all 3 seconds 100 ms. The shortest spacing, between slides #1 and #2 is still >1 second. After Patrick's observation, I ran the show on a slower pc, with several apps open. There I notice the transitions are not so smooth and my "precision" sync of sound and photo is off! On my authoring pc, the sound sync is "perfect" on a couple of "keystone" slides where I can easily observe. Is the high-density mosaic effect (which I use except first 2 and last 1 slide) a real heavy demand on processor or graphics card? Could that be, that Patrick also had an extra long yellow screen for same reason as the jerky, repeating, problem? Geoff is the "pixeling disolve" not very smooth on your playback? I liked the effect on my "authoring" pc, but I see now it is not so pleasant on my slower machine. So, anyone that can shed further light - please do.

Thank you Ken. Good explanation. My understanding of the whole process is most clear about the PTE project vs. the fence repair! I did actually listen to the "on air" excited commentary of the Jack-in-the-box guy. Chuckles to all! Time to ask - how is the blue bonnet crop this Texas spring? I was in Arizona desert last week and it is barely alive. Wildflowers are mostly on memory cards or calendars. Much of Arizona had about five months without rain. Of course it rained while we were there.

Why so quiet (modest?) Ken with the posting of PTE Organizer I was hoping someone else would comment and discuss as I have been shy of time to look closely or do much with this. I did, however run the program, and can say Ken it does seem to work flawlessly. Good work. It appears it would meet very well your described objective. Do you think Ken, it would be a reasonably time-efficient effort for me or other user to make? Is it all a manual labor? How easy is it to expand it frequently with additional shows?
