You guys are allright and all right! Sam's nostalgia for the long walks in the mountains (and the value of the melon) Ron's concurring "a little too long" for outsiders but excellent record for the participants. Bill's getting the great scenery from the mostly-untouched-photos. Al keying right in on why the bear shots were so lousy! I did try to PS the bear photos, but the pre-sunrise light was just too dim when I took the shots. The one of the bear against the horizon was taken while almost on a dead run. I was chasing the bear when he turned around and gave me a great pose - but I probably did not come to a full stop for the exciting moment. Presumeably the same bear had approached our camp just at dark the night before. So we had hoisted are food into a tree for the night. So I was alert in the morning for a possible visit when I would be prepared for a nice bear photo. But I obviously was not prepared enough. (The sad part is that I also had a bear encounter in Yosemite this summer and did even worse on the photos - but that's another story.) On a PTE technical note - When the intro show ends and the main show starts, have you seen the "desktop" between the shows? Or has the transition just been dark screen with the hourglass? As I tested the show on 750 mhz and a 1.6 mhz pc's, there was definitely a difference. It pointed out how nicer and smoother it would be if Igor could come up with a way to make "joined" shows less noticeable. I got wondering if there would be a way to let us join shows at the project (.pte) level, instead of at the .exe level? Any thoughts?

Who can endure refers not to the hike but rather to the length of this show. The little starter show and the main feature total almost half an hour. Now with that caution, I welcome you that can, to download, view, and enjoy. Behind the Mountain / Teton Trek I think Beechbrook.com will also post the link soon. The presentation doesn't do much fancy with PTE. There is a one minute starter show that transitions smoothly to the main show when run on my speedier pc but stumbles on my slower "composer" pc. I am interested in how it runs on your various machines. (And, you can test this part by only watching the first couple of minutes. My purpose in the show is to present a fun re-living of another great hike in the great mountains of western USA. We who hiked, really enjoy also the presentation. Please let me know if you enjoy it.

Gee, I am getting more help than I expected. Maybe if we get a few more comments I can forward them all to Invision. Maybe they can be responsive (almost) like Igor is.
-
Anyone else bothered by this? When reading a topic on this Invision Discussion Board, I always have to scroll back up to the top of the topic in order to select "next oldest" to read the next un-read topic. Why is there not a similar button choice at the bottom of the screen?! Or, heaven forbid, have I overlooked a preferred method of navigation all these years?

two comments - Since when, JSlugman, do you qualify for old goat moniker? This has been heretofor reserved for only a few of the other members on this forum. Secondly , I took the link to your home web page. I really like the new active lens. Pretty fancy.

Just adding to Brian's answer - If you use the template feature, PTE will make a copy of all the required photos, sound, etc. Save your project file (.pte) and the template (.pt) to your cd. Then the CD (containing everything) should be able to be used to transfer everything and burn the final .exe show file onto DVD.

I think your creative thought will have to be done with your creative talent and then displayed via PTE. If I understand your idea, you could probalby accomplish it by making the "half transition" slide in Photoshop. Then the full transition of PTE would bring you to the "half position" slide and then onto what ever you want. Does that make sense for what you are after?

I am sure I am pointing out nothing to you Al, just reminiscing that a competing software in recent history had some "ability" for the recipient to add their own sound. I think we just chuckled as the idea was equivalent only to turning your computer sound down and turning on a CD through a headset.

Yes Ken, congratulations, thats a lot of "water under the bridge" . (If indeed your first shared presentation was about the new bridge in your city? My organization is not as good as yours, I am relying on my memory. Is it right?)

I have nothing to contribute at this time other than my appreciation. There are some really good thoughts being shared here. Keeps the mind stimulated beyond just the mechanics. thanks

Yes indeed. Thats what it is all about. Thank you for your joining and contributing.

My understanding is that Comcast includes a specified amount of storage where a PTE show could be stored for downloading via a link on Beechbrook. Many of the shows dl'd from Beechbrook are actually just links on Beechbrook. This allows Bill to continue to host a greater number of shows than if all the download bandwidth was going against his account on his server.

Yes, both, and Roger, you need not be bashful about including the link to your work.

You subtle genius, Granot. Of course we would all expect to like that! Can we take this to also mean you are feeling better now? Hope so.

Very nice show, Sam! (More about that later.) Thank you for the information you provided about your use of transparent gifs. I understand the "weight" savings but I understand not very much further about the subject. I am sure you are way ahead of me and I will have to hope for more time sometime to better understand. I have enjoyed your presentation on two XP Home pc's at 800x600. Both machines seemed to have some trouble with the presentation. The first PC is 750 mhz, 768 ram. Several transitions and or slides either hesitate or repeat. This happens both with photos and with text. The behavior is not constant but happens on enough slides to not be able to document just where it does occur. Music sounds fine. The second PC is 1.6 mhz, 512 ram. Similar repeat transitions or repeated attempts for new slide. Then on first viewing, the presentation comletely froze (on one of my favorite photos .) The next time I ran the show, it did not freeze and exhibited fewer hesitations or repeats. Now, back to the very nice show. I think your creative talent is very evident. I find what you have done is very appealing to me. Perhaps my favorite aspect is the wonderful clear photographs! You have taken the wilting or spent plants and shown their beauty in the life process. I had to smile because how often I have discarded a photo or a bloom that was "beyond its prime." Your photos are wonderfully crisp and striking. And the result is revealing and honest. I first watched your show a few days ago. Today I learned of the death of a long time friend and business client. I thought it appropriate to view your presentation again. Though my mind wandered, I felt a deeper meaning perhaps, more symbolic, as I simply enjoyed the view of such an elusive concept - time. Thank you.

You also need to be a photographer!

Sure it makes good sense, as does most all that has been said so far on the topic. And you say it well. Clearly those of us who are not into the competitive arena of AV can enjoy hearing and learning of the different levels of interest and skill. There are, as you point out, a wide range of presentations that are "worthwhile" for different reasons. For example, the Marks of Time, recently posted by Sam (cici) is superb in my view. He has wonderful photos, creatively presented, and utilizes pc technology that I barely begin to understand. On the other hand, most my own presentations probably fit into the somewhat deragatory category of "slide show to music." But I do try to make a reasonably appealing presentation for my expected audience. I love the great AV's that meet the critical eye of the UK AV community. Most of my own shows are made however to share an experience that is not soley the creative experience. I think that even if I were to have the skill and time to make the finest (judged) sequence, that might not always improve the "sharing of an experience." But I also know, that more time, patience, and effort could probably improve almost every show I do. But then again, I would still be working on my first show. It's a wonderful world/life! -
Hi Harvey, before reading your explanation, a couple of us had already posted reactions in the "Presentations" section of this forum. Now with your explanation, we can look at the sequence in a new light. And yes, it is very nice and smooth effect for what is intended.

I think (?) I remember some nice orchid photos in shows of this member long ago. Although I welcome anything anyone wants to share, I too wondered about this show. It might be that the wrong file was uploaded? Hopefully, our friend will come on and explain. Apparently about the same time I was writing the above, the show's author was writing a description that clarifies and makes the presentation more meaningful. Thanks.

Jacques - I have no idea if the translation is accurate - but what you express in english is very nice and adds value to the presentation. Thank you.

I am quoting this post from Gerard because I think it is deserving opic on it's own. I dl'd many of these shows and found them to be entertaining and very interesting to see the many different paths of creativity. Also, boxig's utility MultiShowPlayer was the perfect way to line up a dozen or more of these short presentations and see them one after the other. And I do have a question for Gerard or other of our members in France - is the mixture of english and french as common in your day-to-day lives as it is in these presentations? Or is it more so in an "art" context such as AV? -------------------- Gérard http://gdesroches.com

Sam, could you please help me understand how you are using 120/140 transparent gifs as objects. Maybe do you have a sequence that you could post or mail to demonstrate the result? It is about time we could enjoy another show of yours anyway.
-
I too thought of that - but my memory does not make the splices very smoothly. Thanks for the always enjoyable viewing.

On this 750mhz pc, but plenty ram - the show is unreasonably jerky. The good photography, and good artistic intent, perfect music, are all swallowed up by the poor performance on a least this relative slow machine. Thank you for sharing this presentation.
-
I am tempted to say this is my favorite of all your very good shows Michel. But that may only be until your next one. I did find myself wanting more time to view some of the photos. On the one hand, I liked the rapid pace and the music as is, but I did long for more "appreciation" time of what was being shown. Interesting.

Yes, Tolgus, I think you have hit on the most likely cause of your problem. Go into the Music Autosync part of the program which will show you the timeline view of your slide transisitions. You can see which ones may be overlapping or just too tight. Use the timeline view to increase the time between slide 3 and 4 and see if that corrects the repeating of your slide #3. Good luck.
