  1. Tripstrilles, I liked very much the idea that Kai had for thumbnail sorting - but I could not get it to work properly. Does it work right for you? If it does work, is there any way to export the sorted order so it could be used in PTE? (I have long ago gone from Kai to PTE for all shows.)
  2. This is probably the easiest it has ever been for Igor to please everybody
  3. Another interesting brainstorm Granot! Thank you as I go to dl it now.
  4. I thought most previous discussion and desire was for a thumbnail view of the filewindow. Such desired view (similiar to light table) would allow choosing or sorting before ever inserting in the slide window. Is this not what others had understood or requested? Al, when you say thumbnails in the file list would slow program down - At what stage? Would it only slow down the display of slides when a new directory/folder is opened? If so, that seems like a "wait" that would not have to be endured very often. I think most users tend to do some early-grouping of expected files into the same directory or don't often change the file window directory for a particular show.
  5. Maybe that's what I better do. I bet there were some with the scanner!
  6. Stef, your show is very good in my opinion. It runs near-perfect on this PIII-750mhz. Your photography is overall very enjoyable. Some of the in-your-face portraits are great. And on this show, I especially like the sound mix you have done. Very effective I think. Care to tell more of your sound gathering and construction?
  7. This looks like a good place to try to turn my "two bits" into four bits. I use an older Minolta (Dimage Scan Dual). I think it does ok - whatever that means . I have on occasion been pleasantly surprized with the results from an old slide that I wanted to revive and print. But Alan, your statement but you will find that most slides will be perfect with the auto settings. leaves me thinking I have a lot to learn. Maybe you can suggest a course of improvement for me to pursue because I usally find I have a tougher, much more time-consuming, task with a slide than I do with a new negative. Is your experience different than that? Maybe I just need to tap you for the settings you use, or maybe your newer Minolta is much improved hardware or software. Maybe you just know what you are doing. Like the proverbial plea for help with a PTE show - "what do you think I could be doing wrong?"
  8. Thanks nobeefstu for the voice-of-reason reminder. Although the many requests are made for good reasons of the requestors, Igor must always carefully consider whether they fit PTE. I think you have a very good understanding of much of what is involved and how to integrate other tools into different types of presentations you make. Personally, I found my initial look at MMB to not get me very far very easily. But if what it does were important enough to what I currently want to do, I would give it another try. For now, I can use PTE to do more than I have time to do. As much as I like PTE, it is still the photography part of the deal that drives my use of PTE. Sometimes I find myself more fascinated by the technology than I really want to be. So I also understand that for some PTE users, the gee-whiz fun may be more important. And to others it is strictly "what works best for my business." I'm sure glad Igor has brought such a satisfying program to so many. So thanks again Igor & crew.
  9. Thank you Bill. I had dl'd the trials per the original suggestion here. I have not yet opened the trials, so your report will aid in my initial look.
  10. Here are three links to different areas of Beechbrook.com http://beechbrook.com/upload/ http://www.beechbrook.com/pte/index.asp http://beechbrook.com/ For future reference, these links can be found in the "other" section of WnSoft Forums. There in Pictures to Exe Presentations, Ken Cox keeps track of links to web sites of members of the PTE forums. Lot of really helpful people around here. When you visit Beechbrook, you can register to be notified whenever a new PTE show is posted there. I think there are currently dive shows from a couple of PTE users. You can add yours too. I am curious whether you do your diving in Oklahoma? Cave diving perhaps?
  11. Yup, I too was awed!
  12. Indeed, this one seems strange. And nobeefstu is our resident expert on this niche (and many more.) I would just mention my suspicion that the problem may be with the burning software. I have recently had vaguely similar trouble that had absolutely nothing to do with PTE. I was able to solve by un-installing the burn software and re-installing.
  13. Wow - if he could just sharpen them up a bit!
  14. I am all for "quality" of pix. I am even more for discussion and critique of photos and of PTE shows. I think this forum is one that has such a friendly supportive attitude that the members could really help each other. I think Bill I would likely support your proposal, but (maybe because my hour here is getting late) I am not sure I understand your modified way to use the forum. Maybe you can hold my hand on this one. While on the "quality" theme, the predecessor to your Sony 717 is the camera that motivated me to do more digital. I do not own the camera but have really enjoyed using one owned by my son-in-law. I have taken, imho, gorgeous photos and blown them up "successfully" to 20 x 30 inches. Which leads to a topic I would welcome your input about - The roll of the lens in digital cameras. Most my digitals are done with a tiny body 4.3 megapixel Konica. I have also blown some of these files into 20 x30 prints. They seem to do ok with 4.3 megapixels vs. the 5 meg of the Sony, but there is something lacking in the "quality". I think it is that your camera ( and the earlier version) have such a great lens. But as you know, most consumer digitals have a very tiny lens. Any comment?
  15. Hi okiediver - is your name a meaningful description of yourself? If so you can share your PTE with a couple of other divers in this forum. And the rest of us will enjoy also. One way to share your shows is to post them to Bill's generousity-motivated site: Beechbrook.com As for emailing for private sharing - it is simple as follows: Your finished show in PTE is simply one .exe file. All you need do is in your email program, indicate you want to send an attachment. The attachment would be simply that one MyShow.exe file. (whatever your show is named.) Some email servers will reject mail with attachments that are .exe files. For that reason some forum members will send the .exe file as a zipped file (.zip) or simply change the .exe extension to .p2e. Then you need to have your recipient change the .p2e back to .exe before they can run the show. As for "where it dosent take forever" - that is purely a function of how fast your internet connection is and also the size of your PTE .exe file. Also some (most?) ISP's limit a email file to a size of say 2 mb or 5 mb. If your show is larger than that, you either need to reduce the size of your show or split the show .exe file into several smaller files that will be accepted as attachments. So, as with many things - it is simple - until it is complicated.
  16. Welcome to the forum Darrell! Here are links to two of the most recent discussions that may be on target with your questions. http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...2&t=496&hl=svcd http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...2&t=670&hl=svcd
  17. I just added 7 short mp3 files to a show which until now was silent. In this case the sound goes just as planned. When multiple sound files cause trouble - sometimes you can trace down and solve the problem. But as guru (Guido) pointed out, many of us have simply found it easier to combine the multiple mp3 files into a single mp3 file. I assume you are adding your music by Project Options/Music/ Background music checked If instead you are adding your music by Customize Slide screen, then you may be making things more complicated for your intent of background music. The customize slide / music area is for more specialized application of music or sound for a given file or files. As I write this, the above mentioned show is playing fine through all seven mp3 files. If you do want to trouble -shoot your problem (instead of just combining sound files) I would suggest you try your same slides with some totally different mp3 files. Maybe you use your Find command and just choose some short mp3 files to see if it works. Then you can add back your real (original) mp3 files to see if it is a particular file that causes your trouble.
  18. Thank you Granot. I find when I don't use some programs every day, they are very easily forgotten.
  19. And though your "blank" slide is normally quite small file size anyway, if you do it as David suggests, the blank slide does not increase the file size of your show at all. As I understand it, any time you use a duplicate slide in your show, it does not increase the show files size - even if that duplicated slide has been altered to be blank or otherwise, as long as it is done within the PTE program. Please someone correct me if I have outstretched the truth here.
  20. In a previous chapter of this discussion, Ray (raypar) generously offered to convert PTE shows to SVCD. I thought that was very generous and also a very good way for me to see the quality that might be possible and whether it is worth the process/effort. I emailed a couple of PTE shows, one rather lengthy, to Ray. Ray then did the conversion, added a creative touch or two and then mailed the resultant SVCD's to me. He also sent a VHS tape of the same PTE shows. From the amount of previous discussion, I suspect there are at least several more forum members who might be interested in the results as I see them. I think this would be called a subjective review. No technical specs, just "how it looks to me." And to Ray, thank you very much. Here I quote from my initial "report" to Ray" I am pleased with the quality. Maybe I mentioned, I had tried various programs that would create VCD shows. That level of quality was not acceptable. But what you have produced as SVCD is definitely good. I think any "normal" viewer, invited in to see a PTE show on the TV would certainly not question the quality. Even looking with my somewhat cautious and critical eye, I think the photos look really good. Besides that, being able to play the shows on the TV also brought the sound through a better system which made a difference in overall appeal to me. You apparently have the whole process from PTE to SVCD not only figured out, but mastered. I think the SVCD version looked better to me than the VHS. Your presentation of the presentations is fun. I especially like the balloon transition. Nice labels on really cool looking cd's. I have never used or really looked at the colored cd's. All in all, a successful product and very well "packaged." Thank you very much. I am anxious now to try the SVCD on a relative's very large screen TV (where my VCD had looked obnoxious in a short test. Now, I must admit a big grin comes across my face when I think that these shows you did for me are probably your last SVCD's you may ever do. Maybe they will have added collectors value as the last of that medium by Ray Parvaresh. What I mean is - your buying the DVD burner right now - now that you have perfected the craft of producing really good SVCD's. Reminds me of myself. I spend a lot of time learning some software, hardware, or technique, and then move on to a new phase where the learning can begin anew." I think the SVCD quality as Ray accomplished it, is certainly good enough for many, probably most, "needs." Perhaps the most current question for myself, is whether my "need" is now or whether it can wait until true DVD burners and formats and prices clarify themselves relative to my personal, at any given moment, "need." Just a side thought - In earlier days, part of the appeal and "brag" of PTE was that it could produce such great quality on just a pc. You didn't have to have all the other expensive toys to watch great quality. And if it was true then, I think it is true now. So let us all smile at ourselves as we enjoy. Of course, other subjective oppinions are given equal time here.
  21. Thought that was probably the case, but you never know.
  22. Well Mike, how about the / vs \ ?
  23. Welcome elijahnow! I have not heard of the problem you describe. But does your show run in the preview mode? If it runs in the preview mode, then do a "create as" and save it to your hard drive rather than to CD ( if that is what you actually did.) In other words, try back-tracking to the point where your show was working. Then let us know what happens.
  24. From around the world, far and near, the answers appear. Who says there could ever be an energy shortage? Thank you Granot & Bill. ("boxig" and "think(box)" hmm . . .) Before anything else, let me suggest that many members should try the Find procedure detailed by Bill. It looks lengthy and complicated only because Bill, you write such complete, clear, step by step instructions. Really, thank you. In response to my original post for such a "utility" , David succinctly pointed out that it is simple to just keep all the shows in one folder. Obviously that is true if you don't have reasons to need additional locations. In my case there are many times I need multiple versions of shows in progress or "testing" as a method of learning how to better use PTE etc. So, for me your help is on the Mark. And David, your observation also reminds me that I could probably try a little harder to be consistant when there is no redeeming value to be otherwise. Now stat-man, Bill - here is what your method did for me: Found 983 of *.exe containing timesetevent Of which 35 are not PTE shows (This 3.5% were indeed easy to recognize, often just by the folders they are in. The 35 included several Flash, several WN98, and several PTE Setup instances.) The 948 real PTE.exe shows are contained in 103 folders. Of the 948 shows, there are several shows with multiple identical files in addtion to the different versions of a particular wip show. So you can see, the procedure is a good one to help me clean up and "do better in the future." Now, how did you determine to use "timesetevent"? I think the whole procedure you came up with is pretty close to what I was thinking but I certainly did not know how to do it. Thanks again. And it will be interesting to see if something more comes of the mounting collaboration of the two "out of the box" thinkers.
  25. Alas Granot, Guido is Italian. It is Saturday night. He may not be allocating energy to PTE right now.
