I can't figure how . . . Does someone (or everyone?) know how to manually sort thumbnails using Irfanview? Is it possible to drag & drop and then rename and sort to order desired in PTE? I know how to rename via batch function but not how to do the above. Previous discussions sound like others are using Irfanview this way but I seem to give up everytime I try to use Irfanview for this purpose. What am I missing?

And I presume you can cable your TView Gold direct into a VCR to put PTE on tape, right?

I don't think "too short" would do that. So I thought - but decided to try it. So new answer based on my quick trial. I set up show with 213 slides, auto-synched to 4 min 6 sec mp3. The show will "hang" in various forms UNLESS I do the following - In project options, effects, uncheck everything EXCEPT do check "Quick (no transition effect)". Runs fine. If I do have the Quick (no transition effect) checked, and also check the "fade/in-out" - it will no longer run properly. I suspect pc power could make a difference from machine to machine. It will be helpful to many of us if you report how your machine does by varying those settings or even by trying different music lengths. Also, picture file size will probably make a difference.

Thank you Guido for the concise summary. Every time I run into something like that I decide whether it is worth it to figure it all out again. Then to just forget again by the time I run into similiar problem again.

Craig, just make sure the card you buy will do what you want. The card I am using is very old. I have not kept up with the many graphics and video options now available. The terminology can often be misleading. Also, you may want to look at all the other options that may be available for future video type handling. Firewire, USB2, and who knows what. You probably already know all about the new goodies and just needed this PTE/VHS excuse to go buy a new toy anyway. ?

I think it could be a nice help to a troublesome problem many of us encounter.
-
Alan, did it work yet for you? I dl'd a p2e file from Beechbrook now to try on this XP machine. The re-name procedure described above, worked just fine. Maybe, you are ending up somehow with "show.exe.p2e " ? When, using this xp pc, I replace .p2e of the name with .exe, the file type column immediately changed to show the type as "application." I suspect there is a folders/files setting in your xp setup that needs to be changed to allow your xp setup to change it as mine did. I bet Bart (& others) could jump in here and tell you exactly how to do it.

Ok Craig, I can now verify it. I had to go back and actually do it again - to verify it for you AND for me. I am using three RCA type plugs: left audio, right audio, video into the VCR. These come from the TV out of my pc, and the two audios from the sound card. I normally have it set up for showing PTE shows on the TV when the audience can view easier than on the computer screen. Of course the picture quality is less than on the PC monitor. I did just now make a VHS tape of Mike's (Lloegyr) great Fields of Fire pte show. The quality on VHS tape is same (to my eyes) as when I view the PC run show direct on the same TV.

Sure Craig, as far as I know, you just need a video or graphics card with a "TV Out" connection. Cable this "out " to your VCR "in" and you should have it.

This is turning out to be more interesting than I expected. I removed the branch from the photo and am convinced, along with everyone else I guess, that the photo is "better" with the branch. But it is interesting to see now the vote of 6 to 4. Alan has strong credentials behind his assessment of the photos. I find myself, though I preferred the other photo, further looks by me do not reinforce nor undermine my oppinion. I often find the same "problem" with some of my own photos. I have two nearly simultaneous candid portraits of a little girl last night. One has slightly different eye direction and catchlight. Which is better? It should be simpler to ask "Which do I like better?", but I can't even answer that. I think sometimes we have to conclude that there is no "better." Unless we define "better" to mean "level of appeal." Then we may be able to at least decide which one to hang on the wall. But I'm afraid MidKnight will have to decide that, separate from our vote. But, I would also encourage more forum members to vote, just to see how the preferences stack up with more viewers. afterthought : Were both photos taken from the exact ground spot, with only a tiny different tilt and turn of the lens angle?
-
By the way MidKnight - welcome to this forum! If you would like to email me the photo(s) I'll see if I can give the branch removal a try. No guarantee - just for fun.
-
And I'll opt for #1. I prefer the extra "space" on the left side in this picture (as opposed to the right space in #2. I think the extra space on the left allows the view to better flow with the stream. I would keep the branch. If you want it out, it is probably fairly easily removed with PS or other tool you may have.

Ok Harry, I see what you mean. One additional thought - you might simply play a music cd in your computer or an mp3 file with your pc player WITHOUT the music being part of the PTE show. You might then be able to quickly pause the show and separately pause the music. You could warm up by juggling anything handy just before the lights are dimmed. By the way, no need to apologize for not explaining yourself. You do fine. Besides that, you have succeeded in making a business out of this stuff. Many of us just talk a lot and please ourselves with the shows we make.
-
Harry, you have succeeded - in confusing me. Even as a former (briefly) Texan, I don't understand (only my first try) what you are seeking? Did JRR get it for you?

Very nice flow of images one to another. Thanks for the show.

Nice photos. Be sure to thank the software creator too!

PTE Presentations Hosted on Beechbrook.Com
LumenLux replied to cottage's topic in General Discussion
Maybe, along with our thanks to Bill - it is time to remind all forum members that it is possible to donate $ to Bill's support effort. Many new users and PTE forum members probably don't know this is possible. In the past there have been several generous donations large and small. I would invite Bill to let us know how to make donations if someone wants to now. -
Hello Charles. It sounds like you may have your graphics as "objects" on your screen set at 1024x768. When your show is played on a monitor set at 800x600 the objects don't have room as you originally placed them. If the above is correct, you need to go into the PTE objector editor and utilize the little window in upper left. This will allow you to preview how your object placement will appear at various screen sizes. If that does not solve it, please report back and your solution will magically appear from other users.

Creative production well done. I think you've done a nice job of creating a mood and conveying your message. Music works well for your theme. Thanks for sharing.

Granot, you are on a rampage! Every one will have to admonish you like we do Igor - to not kill yourself off with your pace of programing. I know I am not keeping up with all the features you are publishing. As you like to think "outside the box", some of us may find ourselves at least temporarily bounded by the "box." On your latest "Path77" & "Get Path" you have painstakingly listed many "features". Can you also give us a brief "overview" or narrative to help some of us understand better what the purpose and benefit of these programs may be. Thanks friend.

Fun idea Jim. Thanks for doing the Tumble Bee. It is curious - the looping behavior. I experienced about the same as Guido. I ran it on a P-III 750mhz and 768 ram. I wonder if someone will understand why it would behave that way on only some machines? Regardless of the loop, I got the point of the show just fine. I think it could be a great intro to your intended feature on bee keeping. I also think you had the best version possible of Flight of the Bumblebee. Many other versions would not fit so well, I think. It also reminded me of a show that granot (boxig) might do with a surprise or trick at the end!
-
Jim, there were times, in months gone by, that I had trouble if I was using Netscape instead of IE. But it seems the trouble may have been more with downloading, rather than simply accessing Bill's site.

Thank you also Guido. Your precise little help also did not get "hit" when I tried the "search" feature of this forum software. Which leads to a new thought: Is there an independent utility that a forum participant could use to make a better search of forum messages on the host server? And a related subject: What methods to forum members find quickest and retrievable to save specific topics of interest for future reference on their own pc?
-
It seems that "feature" is almost available anyway. As the CD won't be synched to the slide changes (I think). Therefor, anyone can just insert a CD to play with a silent PTE show?
