Thank you very much Marian. That is indeed the missing link.

Maybe difficulty of finding things in this forum actually keeps it more alive? On numerous occasions, users have posted a link to a very good article about resolution, file size, dpi, etc. The explanation includes some pictures of a hot-air balloon. I know some of you will know what I am looking for. I want to refer a friend to this information but I can not find it by searching our forum archives. Will someone please post again where to find this excellent information?

Yes, "for the pleasure" - a very good reason for a very nice photo . Thank you Michel

Mike, it sounds like you might be asking about the "portraits" of the forum members? You will find that illustrious gallery at http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~bussty/forum/forum.htm The gallery is hosted by forum member "Bussty" (actually he is in member list as ADB) . The gallery is somewhat stale and could use an influx of photos from more recent members like yourself. So, start the flood. When the gallery was initiated there was also a PTE show that sort of went with it. I suspect Ken, with his generous nature could email a copy to you. (He keeps better library than I do.) Also, while visiting Bussty's site, be sure to dl and view some of his presentations. His piece on the UK is done especiallly fine. Showcases some very careful use of PTE with very nice photography.

Barbara, you should be able to play background music and have a different sound, voice, etc play on a given slide in addition to the continuing background music. You do not have to use the internal player and you can use mp3 files for background AND "voice over" or slide sound. You set your background sound in Project/Music and check the play background box. Then, back on the main screen, highlight the particular slide, and then in the box below, select the sound file (wav or mp3) that you want to play with that slide.

This is a worthwhile thread for all of us. I appreciate knowing what is important to to each producer. Personally the issue of mixing horizontal and verticall is problematic for me. I agree that flipping back and forth is normally distracting or disturbing. On the other hand, I think that photographically, vertical compositions are very often best for a particular shot. So if one starts with the desire to make the best photograph, how can one then best utilize these verticals in a PTE show? It is usually difficult to crop a good vertical into even an acceptable horizontal. If the original vertical is a good, tight, well composed picture, there is no way to turn it into an equally forceful horizontal. So then a show producer is forced to decide whether the vertical photographic impact is worth the distraction of being not a smoot fit with the rest of the show. A couple of things I have tried are: 1. Choose a transition that seems to smooth the switch between the shapes. 2. Intentionally alternate horizontal/vertical to set up a "rhythum" that then becomes a helpful element to the intended pace or flow of the presentation. 3. Just be frustrated and hope someone will come up with a better idea. Because when my photo is what I am most interested in, it is painful to drop it for the sake of the "show." Related observation: When a vertical shot is lying on it's side on a computer screen, it looks more impressive than it does after it is rotated to correct orientation? I think it may be just that when it is rotated to vertical it is now smaller and thus loses it's impact? The above is strictly my home grown approach to the vertical/horizontal issue. I am sure many of you who have taken AV seriously in clubs etc., have worked this subject over and can suggest some further considerations and ideas.

Temporarily at least, I want to sidestep the competition aspect. I do want to confirm Guido, that we really would like to view some more of your Academy work. Even if it turns out to be above our heads or too sophisticated for some of us. Just think about it - we survived the long wait and build up to once see the photo of you! Now we are prepared. I for one will "stake" my interest and attention.
-
I'm smiling, but I am not sure I understand what you are suggesting. When you say "stake" - are you suggesting a duel or a challenge with PTE presentations? Going out on a limb here, but I guess I dare say "what ever it takes" for us to all enjoy another show from you. Right everybody?
-
I heard in the underground that there is a possible boycott of new shows until Guido presents!
-
Welcome home Ernst! Now we certainly look forward to a presentation as well as your input here. Are you aware that almost all the grapes we get here this time of year are from Chile?
-
The only thing I have done is to use a very short intro music. Perhaps a "drumroll" or exciting screen opener of just a few measures as the menu slide opens.

Welcome Mark to this group. Possibly you have been lurking a while before posting - as many have done. But everyone who also posts, adds to the value of this group. I don't know the answer to your question. I was just noting your screen name. I had first read it as "made remark". Seeing your post now, I see the play on your real name. Have you any great photos of this rather snowy winter in Cleveland?

Without taking time to search my memory right now - I would probably first simply re-install PTE program. Or if you are not yet using the latest Beta #8, install that and see if it will work as it should. And of course let us know as your solution evolves.

Thank you, Granot - I can now postpone troubleshooting my memory.

Okey Ken, I'll bite. Maybe the problem is that they ARE royalty free. That would work fine here in America, but there in Dublin, so close to royalty, they don't accept royalty free attitude.

Mikej998 & Fujiboy - If you would like, I can email you the shows as I have DL'd them from Beechbrook. That would eliminate the possible trouble between you and Beechbrook server. If your email system will accept it, I could mail it as the .exe file instead of the.zip file. The other concern is whether your ISP will accept email attachments of that size. Please let me know if you want me to do this.

Clive, try the same show but with 3 different mp3 files. Then, If necessary even 3 mp3 files that any of us have found successful in a PTE show together. But if it works fine on your own machine, and the other machines are "far" away, it will be tougher to know. (obviously) You could also try your existing 3 mp3's with a completely different set of photos - to see if any difference.

Hi Granot - I don't remember the "install" part of your mentioned utility. I think I would like to give that a try. You can send it to me at rcr@networld.com. Thank you

Sorry James, I was disappointed in your show - I wanted to see you out mushing those huskies! Actually it is interesting to see glimpses of your life on the frontier. I am hoping that we will be seeing some expanded display of your recent sky shots. That would be great.

Mike I just started my morning by running your fun Carousel shows. English or French, both are effective. I was caught up in the fun of the music and pictures and did not think to worry about the technical timing issues. It certainly had no obvious problems to me. Fun work. Thanks. Ending was simply with black screen remaining after sound - until I pressed escape.
-
I can't address your specifics, but you may want to try running the shows after a fresh re-boot. Also, re-download if necessary. Usually such problems are a configuration problem on the viewing machine. Some time ago, Ernst tried for days to run my Rain, Snow, Gold while it worked fine for everyone else (as far as I know.) Ermst's dilligent trouble shooting eventually got it going on his machines. I think it is also possible sometimes for programs that load at bootup and run in background, in certain combinations, prohibit a particular show from running at that moment.

Yes Michel, you make a very good point. Each of us, as user of PTE need to remember what our purpose is for any presentation. I wanted to make a quick presentation today to send a fun message to a friend. Then it started to "grow" because PTE offers so many possibilities. I could have ended up making a project with hours of work. But I realized, for the purpose of the moment, a simple, quickly done show would be enough. I did not have to try to compete my photos against gallery product.

Sure Martin. Welcome to the forum. From the main screen go into project options. Select synchronize. The sync window opens up where the timeline will then be readily apparent. Have fun. If I have led you astray, come back and go easy on me.

What a man, what a life. Al you've got it. You go on the road, photograph the scenery, visit the family, and still keep the computer rolling and the input flowing. Myself I have not been able to make time to utilize your latest helps, but just want to tell you thanks. The little bit above about the space bar behavior can certainly save each of us from trying to figure out what is going on. And Igor likely is grateful too. And Guido, we don't take you for granted either. Mr. Consistency, headquartered in Italia. As always, thank you too.

Welcome Isaaccreek I'm not sure about what is happening. But for starters, it sounds like you are entering your music in the wrong place for "background" music. Remove your entry and then go into project options, music, and list it there as background music. If you are using the trial version, the music should work fine, but you are restricted to just 5 pictures I think. If you have not already viewed a show made with PTE, take a look at Beechbrook.com for many fine examples of what can be done with the program. And of course - enjoy.
