  1. Regarding the "proper" durations, it all depends on your public and the circumstances. I have to admit that my brother in law falls asleep in 15 minutes when viewing my slideshows! However there are two places nearby my home where travellers share their experiences with a vast audience (50+) by displaying their images (from a vast array of places around the world) on a large projection screen, with stills, videos, music and commentaries that are either recorded or live during the show. ProShow and PicturesToExe are the main software used in this case. The actual sessions usually comprise of two parts, each 30 to 45 minutes long (the total duration is well above an hour). And the public (who pay a modest entrance fee) enjoy that. Discussions follow. See examples of these events (with pictures, but in French) on: http://www.voyageurs06.fr/jeudi.htm http://www.photoclubbeausoleil.sitew.fr/#Club_des_Reporters.K
  2. And in France, as well.
  3. It took me a while to realise that this 20th birthday of PTE was not too different from a long lasting marriage (between the developers and the users, in this case), a time when there are promises "to have and to hold from this day forward, for better and for worse, for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part." ;-))
  4. Great, it's perfect. Thank you Igor for finding time for this amongst your PTE-10 development (You stay on the Watch, even on Sunday). * Another great source of free video Tutorials, in French, by Gabriel Mermet-Bouvier, can be found at: http://www.vivelediaporama.com/Joomla/index.php/tutoriels He calls PicturesToExe "the" software for creating "diaporamas" (audio-video slide shows), you'll be glad to know. Unfortunately these tutorials are related to the use of the previous version 8 of PTE, though 90% apply directly to PTE-9 as well. He has changed the title of the site from "Vive le Diaporama" to "Vive la Photo et le Diaporama" and claims that he will not update the tutorials on PTE but rather deal only with the photographic aspects and the post-processing of image files (use of the Nik collection, etc.). >> * Specifically for PTE, here is the table of contents for the eleven chapters (about 10 hours in total), that you may wish to post a Link to (with a short introduction text, in French, that follows): http://www.vivelediaporama.com/Joomla/index.php/tutoriels/le-diaporama <<Gabriel Mermet-Bouvier a réalisé un ensemble de tutos, en vidéo pour la plupart relatifs à des logiciels de traitement de l'image, ainsi qu'une formation complète à PTE 8 (PicturesToExe), le logiciel de réalisation de diaporama. >>
  5. Thanks, Igor, for this tip; I had never noticed the "TOOL" button in O& A until now. Now I know...
  6. In parallel to Ctrl+Z, if you've done one (or more) too many steps backwards, you could also learn & remember Ctrl+Y which will go forward in the history of last changes, so as to undo the undo (i.e. Redo)! Another "universal" command.
  7. Many thanks, Igor. I am glad that I asked! I did three extra "save" operations of different project variants and then PTE remembered them all (as you knew). The file C:\Users\Utilisateur\AppData\Local\PicturesToExe\Versions\9.0 was updated as follows: [RecentProjects] RecentLst_Limit=25 ; by me, as advised RecentLst_Count=13 ; by PTE after usage Maybe this facility could be provided as part of an easy to access preference / set-up menu in the future... In any case, I'm happy with this first gift from you for 2019, the next one being PTE-10 beta!
  8. <<<Merci Jean,

    Meilleures salutations,

    Lin

    Thanks Jean,

I'll give that a try. Unfortunately I use my XP system for most web work and Chrome is no longer supported. That may also explain part of my problem. I will try using my Win 8.1 system which has the updated Chrome browser.

    Best regards,

    Lin

    >>>

Lin, thank you for taking the time for your write-up.  The main long text seems translated OK.

The above quote, however, being more colloquial, is translated in a meaningless way for the first sentence that is not even grammatically correct ; I would propose rather :

<Je vais faire un essai.  Malheureusement j’utilise mon système Windows/XP pour la plupart de mes travaux sur le web, et le navigateur Chrome n’est plus supporté.  Ce qui peut aussi expliquer une partie de mon problème. Je vais essayer en utilisant mon système MS/Windows 8.1 qui a le navigateur Chrome mis à à jour.>

  9. Currently, with the menu "File" then "Open Recent Project", the last ten (10) project files are shown. With a few projects under development and several versions of each, that is not quite enough for me. With MS/Excel or MS/Word, for instance, the basic list is about 16 items long and that can easily be expanded to "show more", in my case 30 or so (it is actually an "Advanced Option" where the user can specify the length of the list of files, with a current maximum allowed of 50 in MS/Excel). Is there a similar option in PTE to extend the list of past (recent) projects? If not, that would be a welcome addition for me.
  10. Me too I would very much enjoy to see the timeline and audio track in O & A, so I could easily match the animation with the music VISUALLY, along the whole slide time, rather than having to listen many many times to the music and then try and drop a keypoint at the precise moment.
  11. Maybe the Spilt is only apparent and the other part of the text remains hidden in some way; useful for printing purposes, I suppose, to extract the part of text to be printed and exclude the rest. Not sure, though! Let us know how the translation goes. I found the tutorial quite useful, as the music or sound track is created first, then the images added to it ; that is the opposite of my current practice as I start putting my images together (I like my photos!) and then wonder how to put a sound track to go along.
  12. Indeed, why not use Adobe Acrobat Reader? Did the download complete properly? Not quite, as the file size is 44.0 MB, i.e. 45 095 kB. You need to downloadd again the full file, I believe.
  13. Hi, Igor! After visiting: International Forums > Français https://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/forum/66-fran%C3%A7ais/ I feel that some other web sites, in French, should be added to the short list. (1) <<LE SITE DU DCcn [ Diaporama Créatif court et numérique ]>> http://sitedudccn.com/ It offers, after subscribing (for free), many resources related to PicturesToExe, such as: - A manual on the use of PTE-9, by Laure Gigou (128 pages) ("Réalisation d'un DCcn avec le logiciel PicturesToExe Version 9") http://sitedudccn.com/AIDES/Tutoriel_Pte9.pdf - A tutorial on how to transform an idea into a slide show ("De l'Idée au Diaporama") http://sitedudccn.com/DOCUMENTS/De_l_idee_au_diaporama.pdf - nearly 700 examples of high quality slideshows, all of which have been competing in some sort of event where they were shown on huge screens to a jury and an audience. (2) <<Le site des utilisateurs de PicturesToExe>> http://diapositif.net/ It is another forum with many tutorials (from French experts, some of whom also post on this web site) . There is a section open for discussion on semi-finished slideshows ("maquettes"), and other goodies.
  14. I understand fully, wideangle, and I sort of felt the internet connection was not necessarily a given. BTW England is a fine place for walkers, and I have enjoyed using the stiles to go from field to field, in Yorkshire and the Peak district.
  15. Hello wideangle I get your point, and that's a good option as long as DVDs are not considered as an archival media (my bad past experience). Another option that I use is "cloud" storage to share images and videos, or to send them via transfer web services such as e.g. WeTransfer.com or GrosFichiers.ch (for up to 2 GB or 4 GB file volumes at once and for free), as long as the friends have an internet connection (fast enough if large volumes).
  16. Hi, Canico and Lacogada! I get your point, but have you tried the USB memory stick option? Most DVD players have a USB port, I believe.
  17. Thanks again, Lin. I now have the new version with all timing options. Really cool.
  18. Thanks a a lot, Lin, for this clever demonstration and the style given. It works perfectly for me, except that it seems that the link above gives the original version, since I cannot find the "hour hand" in Objects and Animations after applying style. "Frame1" contains: alarmclockhammmer, 2ndhandclock, minutehandclock and alarmclock, that's all.
  19. I have stopped burning DVDs several years ago (except very few exceptions) as they are limited to 4.7 GB, as opposed to USB keys with up to 64 GB easily. Most people I visit have a modern TV set (or attached decoder or DVD player) where I can insert a USB key for direct reading, which is so practical. Several years ago, I have sent a DVD with pictures to a friend in New Zealand, and the disc arrived broken; I then sent a more compact USB key that survived OK (nowadays I would probably send the files via internet). Moreover I have found that conventional DVDs are *NOT* to be used for archival as there are several of my recorded discs that I could not read after a few years, although they were hardly ever used. Special long duration surface coatings are provided by the "Gold Professional DVD" by Kodak for instance, claimed to give "up to 100 years archival", but I now prefer multiple hard disc safeguards. In short: no DVD use for me in PTE. I can always copy files (individual pictures or PTE output) to a DVD if I need to, with the supplied DVD software.
  20. I would be happy to have that too. A "nice to have".
  21. Good idea. Drag and Drop is used a lot for file handling in computer folders, and for moving objects in general. Such facility within PTE would increase its ease of use.
  22. In Objects and Animation, I would like to be able to Click and Drag an object (or group of objects) in the list of objects, in order to change their order (e.g. as in Google-Maps for altering the order of stopover places). Presently I can right click on an object and then select: "Order / Bring to Front, Send to Back, Forward One, Back One". With many objects on the list, it requires repetitive actions, which can take some time to re-arrange each object precisely in the right order. I know that I can use the Hotkeys / Objects and Animation: Ctrl+Page Up - Shift Object up one level in the Objects Panel Ctrl+Page Down - Shift Object Down one level in the Objects Panel Ctrl+Shift+Page Up - Sends Object to the Front in the Objects Panel Ctrl+Shift+Page Down - Sends Object to the Back in the Objects Panel Is there anyone else who would like to Drag & Drop objects to place them directly in the desired order?
  23. Thank you for the various CAVEATs, Jill, Dave, Jean-Cyprien. It is good to have these alternatigve workarounds, but none is 100% satisfactory. Hopefully more "text" features will come with PTE-10.
  24. BINGO! Many thanks, Lin, for the additional explanations. I have just switched my PTE language to English, which helps my understanding of the tips given in this forum. I had used this "comment" box in the past (translated as "légende" in French, as you guessed) to add a slide number while in the development phase of a slide show, not as an alternative to the "Text" block. It is indeed very easy to insert text that way, even several lines of text, with this "comment" feature. Thanks again; that allows me to have consistent text attributes throughout. Long live PTE and its team of developers, moderators, users...
  25. In other words, the keyframes with only "default values" are awaiting some input for changes in some values of PZT for instance. They were placed on the timeline with the intention to change some parameters there and have been forgotten. If no changes of values are ever given for the parameters at that keyframe, then that keyframe can be removed safely without any damage to the slide show, thereby making the editing easier (fewer useles keyframes). I agree with Barry that it would be a "nice to have" feature, to identify these pending items.
