Hi Peter, The comment I made was not directed at yourself personally, my words....because as you know Programs can't think for themselves .. It's surprising the amount of people that actually believe that such a Library Maker exists ~ It was my intention to let people know that...it doesn't exist ! I personally have reviewed in excess of +60 such Programs looking for the same Tools you require and the one that got nearest to the target is "Gallery Creator" as I have previously mentioned, plus the reason's why. It can also generate "Keyword" selectivity such as you require. I attach another 'Screenshot' which describes the Program Features ~ you will see that these are very impressive indeed ~ and way beyond the capabilities of others mentioned so far. Brian.Conflow.

Hi Peter, To use your own words...."to classify, organize, and search my 1000s pictures".....I guess your request is somewhat a shot in the dark because as you know Programs can't think for themselves so they cant 'auto-classify' nor 'auto-assign' excepting in the 1st instance that you "assigned" a unique identifier to the contents of a your SD-Photo Card (your Camera Card) and even after that you will have to physically sort all Images into Libraries of your own creation. However, below is a 'link' to a (free-ware) Gallery Creator Program which we found to be quite intelligent as it uses Sun-Java Script and .Net Framework both free utilities available on the Web. Harry, The PC you describe makes me think that this PC is a Laptop Portable with a 2 or 3.Gig Hard Drive. The configuration is definitely as used by 'older' Acus and Acer and Hyundai Laptops using the old Intel Mxx 300/400 Chipsets with a locked Bios System ~ thats not to say your's could be a Desktop PC with the same Chipset configuration ?. The PC is indeed a 98.Se (Old OEM version A) ~ the 1st in the series of '98se Systems and if it has a USB Port it will only handle USB 1.1 limited to external devices up to 256Mb. The PC will handle Pte 4.48 quite well provided you have (minimum) Direct X 8.0 installed and provided you "shut-down" any Anti-Virus Programs which "hog" the '98se Memory resources. In our Workshops we maintain 2 of these "older" '98se for Data-Logger Programs and other Machine Programs for our clients. I regret to say that this version of '98se will not run PTE 5.0xxx (we tried it) and it only runs the (inbuilt) alternative 4.48 Engine with great difficulty ~ However it will run the origional 4.48 quite happily provided you do as stated above. Brian.Conflow. P.S Just seen that Igor has released a modified version of Pte 5.0xxx ~ we have not tried that !

SIZE RATIO, You might have a Graphics problem with your 'Screen Size Ratios' ~ it could also be a bug. Standard 'Size Ratio' is 4:3 (4 wide:3 high) example:- 1024 x 768 pixels. From your posted figures your Picture ratio is actually higher that wider 1024 x 1542 and even if you reverse this to 1542 x 1024 your ratio is non-standard at 3:2 ratio. All Standard Monitors and VDU's are designed to display with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and the 'Monitor Driver Software' is designed to anticipate this usage. Non-Standard ratios push the Graphic Card Memory to its limits and consequently things slow down drastically. Try re-sizing a few pictures to 1024 x 768 and repeat the Test and see what happens ? (The same aspect ratio must also be used for Thumbnails) Hope this may be of help.... Brian.Conflow.

Peter, It may be that your "Firefox Browser Security Settings" are set too high ~ This is a common problem both with IE.5 and IE.6 where people set the security Levels at 'Custom Level' instead of 'Medium Level'. In these circumstances both IE5 and IE.6 deny access to various components on many, many,Websites such as various FTP images and Java images and various Active X controls. With IE.5 and IE.6 -->Select Tools-->Internet Options-->Security Tab--> followed by-->Privacy Tab and set each of these to Medium. I'm sure that Firefox must have such similar Tabs, its worth a try. Renaming of "Synchronize slides to music" option

Igor, How about:- 'Slide SoundSync' or alternatively 'Slide SoundLock' or 'Image SoundLock' or 'Image SoundSync' Brian.Conflow -
AUDIO RECORDER PRO Granot, Peter, Lin and All, I went through a lot of PC.Recorders over the years and the one I stuck with is Audio Recorder Pro. Why? ~ Because of its flexibility, stability, and compatibility with Windows Player (thats saying something) It does a good job~ and the Recording Meters are accurate and the (instantaneous) Mp3 Converter is really good. The ability to "pre-set" your Sound Card Mixer Levels to 'agree' with the Recorder Levels is a doddle and the 'Sound Quality Management System' really does work properly, unlike others that are 'buggy' as hell. Overall its a very well balanced Instrument and comes complete with the necessary Encoders (Codecs). Granot, it also has an in-built Ogg Codec which I had forgotten about. Most of all its been on the Market for years ~ one of those quite bundles of Software that few know about. BEST of ALL ~ You can have a 30 day 'Free Trial' there are no restrictions and its $25 to Buy it. Link:-http://www.ezaudiorecorder.com Brian.Conflow. Screenshot:-

Peter, Everything you have done so far is Legal and above Board ~ However your choice of Mp3.PRO ? ~ personally I would not have made that choice for the following reasons:- * Mp3.PRO is essentially a Development Tool. The fee you are asked to pay is for the 'Recorder Encoder Part' of the product whereas the entire suite of Mp3.PRO would cost you some $3000 for a single-user Licence. * The quality factor is high because it processes small "chunks" of Audio in chunks of 64kilobits of Data in 1 sec this is scanned at a very high scanning rates so it takes more 'samples' of the Audio chunk and therefore its more incisive and accurate in rendition. But don't forget that it was designed for Transmitter compatibility with DAB Radio (Digital Audio Broadcast) and this Mp3 File is much larger than the current Industry Standards. * Hi-Fi Quality (Mp3) uses discreet "chunks" of 192kilobits of Data in 1 second ~ being scanned at 48000 times in that second. * CD-Quality (Industry Standard Mp3) uses "chunks" of 128kilobits of Data in 1 second ~ being scanned 44100 times in that second. (The resultant Files are much smaller than the Mp3.PRO product) Ask the question ?, how many people today have Playback Equipment capable of doing full justice to a quality CD-Audio Disc....never mind owning Hi-Fi Gear such as Quad, Moranz, Akai, Harmon-Kardon etc,etc ? and if these owners are above 40 years of age they wouldn't hear the sound quality anyway ! So really the use of the Mp3.PRO Encoder with PC.Computers and 'Run-of-the-Mill' Audio Systems is really superfluous when the Industry Standard is acknowledged to be CD-Quality ~the exception being~ A Sound Studio which needs the Mp3.PRO Product for Master Recordings. Peter, You are making the right decision about that File ~ Just bear with me a little more ~ XP and 2000.Pro and to some extent Vista have the capability of 'Auto-Communications' without intervention from you and without your knowledge. This utility is used by Microsoft and Norton and many others and was designed for 'Auto-Updating' and 'Auto-Upgrading' of the respective Anti-Virus and Operating Systems. Also there are many Intelligent Programs on your PC that need to communicate with the outside World, such as Windows Defender and most of the modern PC.Printers with Pix-Bridge enabled, there are others... Unfortunately the 'Hacker Community' have cottoned on to this and use 'devious ways' of exploiting the utility, such as:- Keyloggers that record&send every Keyboard transaction, others use 'Sleeper Files' the most famous of which was the Doomsday file, then we have the Phishers and Browser Hi-Jackers ~ The list is endless, why ?? ~ because there is money to be made at your expense. The moral of the Story is...If a good A/V Program or Anti-Spy Program 'flags' something, there is good reason for it, and when you see a 'False Positive' always right click it and find out its Properties ~ chances are that it's Blacklisted or that it's capable of 'Erratic Behaviour' not acceptable against Industry Standards and it could also be a 'Infected File'. The average person wouldn't have the skills to deal with such things but thankfully we have Professional Companies that do have the skills and historic knowledge about these "rogues"... Brian. -
Peter, I was replying to one of your Posts in a different Thread when I spotted your Post above. I too used to have problems in keeping track of 'Base Image JPegs' and 'Secondary Variations' of the Base Image. * I designed a method of Enumeration with Alpha-Numerics which may be helpful with your dilema:- * Take the Letters from A to Z * Take the Numbers from 0 to 9 * Sectionalize or Paragraph your SlideShow as follows:- Paragraph-1 (Image Enumeration) AA-00 ~to~ AA-99 This gives 100 Slides where whole decadic Numbers could be 'Base Images' ~ So AA-00 and AA-20 could be Base-Slides and others such as AA-01, AA-02, AA-03 could be variations of AA-00 or intermediary Slides. Paragraph-2 (Image Enumeration) BB-00 ~to~ BB-99 Again BB-00 is a 'Base-Slide' and variationss could be BB-01, BB-02, BB-03 up to BB-09 and BB-10 could be a Base-Slide in Paragraph 2 as it contains a whole decadic number. And so on to BB-99 NOTE:- This does not effect the continuity nor the smoothness of a PTE Slideshow. This system makes it very easy to 'inject' New Slides into any Paragraph as the paragraphs are identified by 'Letters' and the Slides themselves are identified by Letter & Number. You can also leave 'spaces' in the sequences eg:- AA-24 to AA-27 (2 spaces) this to do what you wish without having to re-enumerate the lot. My System can accomodate up to 2600 Slides and thats a Hell-of-a-Lot for a 4-Digit Code. You can expand any Paragraph by adding a suffix Letter such as AB, AC, AD, or an extra Numeral AA-999 sic ! I hope my method may be of help..... Brian.Conflow.

Peter, Yes, I am aware of these issues concerning XoftSpy ~ but one has to be exteremely careful when checking out particular Files with CA. CA is a Yes/No organisation, either the File is 'Clean' or 'Dirty' but thats only part of the overall scenario. Other Considerations are:- * Known 'Blacklisted Sites' engaging in aggressive Adware. * Known 'Blacklisted Sites' engaging in deliberate 'Browser Hi-Jacking' * Known 'Blacklisted Sites' engaged in 'Browser Re-Direction' to Porn Sites. There are some 6000+ of these Sites which are well known to the 'Spyware Community' including XoftSpy and SpyBot and many more accredited vendors of Anti-Spyware/Anti-Virus Products. Your Example:- Dollaravenue, is a known Blacklisted-Site which is capable of 'Automatic-Communications' to other sites WITHOUT your knowledge ~ thats why it is a severe threat and Blacklisted not only by XoftSpy but also Lavasoft, SpyBot, Windows Defender, IoBit-Wincare2 and many others including Microsoft Defender. Their File in your Temp.Internet Directory DF305b.tmp is -currently benign- but wait till it is commanded to "wake-up" ~ Then we will see if it is a 'False Positive' ~ I hope you get the bigger Picture ? One is not suggesting that you buy XoftSpy ~just that you avail of the 'Free Scan'~ but believe you me if it flags something at Threat Level 4/6 there is a profound reason why it's doing it....Simply right-click the Item and get the full explaination, it leaves the final action decision to you ! Brian.Conflow. P.S If you look at the 'Reviews' about these Programs you will find that XoftSpy has been the No:1 ranking Program for the past 3 years. -
Peter, The 'article' you refer to above is ambigious because on one hand it refers to the Mp3.PRO (Patented)Product usage and on the other it refers to Music Distribution Rights which are two seperate issues. Fraunhofer own the "Patented Product Mp3.PRO Encoder" ~not to be confused with~ the subject of "Mp3 Music Royalties" derived from Music Productions generated with that particular Mp3.PRO Encoder which is rarely used for Mp3.Music Production. Two entirely different issues alltogether.... My Post No: 603. (Page.1 this Thread) Item (3) ....Fraunhofer patented the Mp3.PRO Encoder/Decoder on behalf of the participant Designers and Licenced Thomson.CSF (a French Corporation) to distribute this to Manufacturers and Software Developers Worldwide. The Mp3.PRO Program contains all the basic 'source-codes' for a Developer or Manufacturer to make his own Mp3 Encoder, ALL of which are compatible but each with differences depending on the quality wanted. (One can also view a Listing of Licencee's of this Mp3.PRO Product). I also included a Screen-Shot as to Fraunhofer & Thomsons' caretaker attitude to their "Mp3.PRO Product". So lets get this straight:- The Mp3.PRO Encoder is a Patented Software Tool (a Product) which is Licenced for use to Sound-Product Manufacturers and Sound-Product Developers whereafter they develop their enhanced Mp3 Products for Retail Sales. The Patent applies only to the Mp3.PRO Product not to subsequent developments of it which would be "Patents of Improvement" ~ Owned solely by the Retail Manufacturers & Developers. The matter's of:- Performance Copyright and Music Royalities and Mechanical Copyright are seperate issues. I hope I have explained this to your satisfaction. Brian.Conflow.

Granot, Firstly open the Audacity Folder and find the 'old' Lame Encoder and check to see what version it is. If its 3.97 then you need do no more. If its an older version remove ALL Lame Files, simply delete them ~ then load All the 'New' Lame Files into the Audacity Folder and re-start your PC ~ thats it ! Better to have have 'unzipped' the (New) Lame Zip File directly into the Audacity Folder having first removed the old Files. (Lame 3.97 ~ there should be 14 Files of 1.09 mB total size) Concerning WAV to OGG Format, the only Converter I ever got to work correctly is that which comes with the QCD Player from www.quinnware.com They have a vast list of Plug-Ins ~ some of them will work with Audacity, you need to try that for yourself. Brian.Conflow.

Granot, 1) If you "personally" Composed the Music, and Wrote the Music and Play the Music (3 Things) ~ Then its your property. But if you re-composed another persons Lyrics or Music and then got someone to Play that Music ~ then you have a few problems. 2) If this "property" is yours in its entirety I would protect it by Copyright before I put it on ANY Playable Media. 3) This is easy to do, you need the following:- The origional 'Musical Score Sheet' and the origional 'Lyrics Sheet' (if any) and the origional 'Sound Track' on a non-perishable medium usually a Master Tape. All of these must be signed and dated by you, placed in a strong Envelope ~ Made fully sealed~ and then Addressed to you with your sender name on the back. This will never be opened except by a Court. Go to your Post Office and get the Envelope CLEARLY DATE STAMPED and then sent by REGISTERED POST to yourself. Make sure you have a Copy for personal usage, NEVER open the origional and keep the Post-Office receipt in a secure place. When received put the origional in a Bank or a secure place. 4) This establishes whats termed a "Priority Date" which can't be broken and the contents establish the Copyright. Yes,certainly use Audacity and the latest 'Lame Encoder 3.97' ~ This must be used as its the only one that's 'Open Source' (Available from:- www.soundforge.net) Hope this helps... Brian.Conflow.

(Open this to Full Screen) Granot,Peter,Al Granot ~ Mp3 Technology is vast and I can't go in-depth discussions here as it's basically "Off-Topic" ~ but here is a little background on the Audio Codec section of Mp3. 1) The design of Mp3 went through various design phases between 1991~1995 as Mpeg/Layer1/Layer2/Layer3.The current development is Mpeg 3.97 available as an "Open-Source European Program" available from www.soundforge.net (This is a Free Codec) and can be imported into "Audacity" another Open-Source Program. ALL LAYERS of Mp3 are forward and backward compatible with each other. LAME is now also Free. 2) The Worlds largest Technical Institute is the 'Fraunhofer Institute' of Germany (+12,000 Members) and in 1991 the European Union funded a Eureka Project to develop a 'Sound-Compression Program' which would reduce the size of WAV Files to a tenth of the origional size. This was a vital component in DAB Radio (Digital-Audio-Radio) and now Digital-Television and I-Pods and I-Tunes and Mobile Phones and now Bluetooth. Large European companies got involved in this and in 1995 the Fraunhofer Institute pulled all these factions together and then 'post-developed' what you now know today as Mp3. 3) 'Fraunhofer' patented the Mp3.PRO Encoder/Decoder on behalf of the participants and Licenced Thomson.CSF (a French Corporation) to distribute this to Manufacturers and Software Developers Worldwide. The Mp3.PRO Program contains all the basic 'source-codes' for a Developer or Manufacturer to make his own Mp3 Encoder ALL of which are compatible but each with differences depending on the quality wanted. 4) Microsoft refused to purchase a Licence and went on to develop WMA Sound, a type of Mp3. (Non-Compatible) 5) THE PATENT and the LICENCE only applies to Mp3.PRO (The Core-Program) ~ This if you wish to develop a Copy for your own use ~otherwise~ use Audacity with Lame V3.97. But be aware this will NOT work with RAW Audio inputs NOR with PCM Audio inputs. It only works converting WAV to Mp3 and visa-versa. Brian.Conflow.

Granot, If you are using the Mp3 Process (Patented Process) to make products For Sale then technically you are a Commercial User and as such you really need a Licence to stay on the right side of International Patent Law. If you make enquiries with Lame or Fraundorfer they will give you a Small Business Licence for very little. If you 'Advertise' within your product that it was made with Lame or Fraundorfer or Nero in all probability they will give you a small General Use Licence for nothing. Also there is a free "Open-Source" Mp3 Encoder but you must Register to use it. Most of these people respect the honestly of Registered Users where others simply "pirate" the use of the Product ~ I don't need to tell you about that, so the same general rule applies here.... Brian.Conflow.

Hi Granot, Great to hear from you again and here is my contribution re:- Mp3. Al's interpretation, understanding and advice to you is absolutely correct for the USA and Canada. I was in the Commercial Music Business for some 15 years. Within the past 4 years the subject of Copyright and Media Licencing has been much modified for the reasons that the U.S Music Industry were starting to write their own 'Rules' to the extent of flouting the Laws of many Countries who were co-signatories to the 'Berne Convention' and the 'UCC Convention' and the 'International Copyright Convention'. But in America these Media Mogul's were taking the Law into their own hands and 'stamping' on International Consumers Rights particularily within the E.C. This all blew up when Sony started to use 'Root-Kits' in their CD-Discs, now enough was enough. We Europeans outlawed this and returned nearly 10 million Discs to them. Warner Bros got the message ! 1) As things now stand in Europe we can record 60 seconds of any Music/Speech/Theatrical/Works for your own personal usage and even compile that into your own Work provided that is distributed 'Free-of-Charge' but with acknowledgements to the 'Copyright Holders' of those origional works. (The USA Media Industry allows 30 seconds) The 'Berne and UCC Conventions' allow 60 seconds without breaching Copyright. 2) You can not copy/record ANY WORKS for Sale nor Distribution where you are in receipt of a monetary gain for such copies without having a 'Mechanical Copyright Licence'. (Berne & UCC Conventions) 3) You can not render ANY PUBLIC PERFORMANCE of ANY MEDIA WORKS not of your own creation without holding a 'Performance Copyright Licence' (Applies to Public Venues,Forums,Hotels,Ships,Trains,Planes etc). In your case that Licence would not exceed $20 ~ $50 per year if you were giving Public Slide Shows. 4) Methods of Recording and Rendition. If its a case where you are using a 'Patented Process' as Mp3 or WMA,Real Audio or Quicktime (for examples) then a Product Licence is required to use that technology for Commercial Recording purposes. But for Playback Units you pay for an OEM Licence within the purchase price of the System. In your case an Mp3 Recording Licence would be $20 ~$80. Mp3PRO (German) approx $100. Russia and China and others are NOT co-signatories to the International Copyright Convention(s) Finally, it all boils down to Recording ~ Playback ~ Method........ And if this is for Private or Public usage. Hope this helps, Brian.Conflow.

Tom, Many thanks for your full explaination concerning 'Bot's & Spiders' ~ and from your Mail its apparent that you are in the WebMaster end of things concerning the Net. We at Conflow are associated with Micronetworks Ltd and yes I fully understand where you are coming from concerning Google. But as you well know Google requires 'Owners permissions' to engage in these activities and if a Meta-Tag has been placed in the 'Forum Members Section' instead of the Home Page (where its supposed to be) then this leaves the Forum wide open to all types of 'phishing' all not necessarily 'innocent' as we are all led to believe ? I can't say for certain if this is genuine Google, or a Google Employee, or an 'Invision Board' artifact, or a utility in use for WnSoft Inc. The fact that this untracable 'Anonymous Member' can gain access to Members Profiles ~ that's the issue. Myself and others who have contacted me 'off-list' ~ feel that clarification of this issue is urgently needed. Brian.Conflow.
-
Larry, Many thanks for your support on this issue, you have taken the words out of my mouth and I am sure there are other Members that consider likewise as we do. Certainly some concrete assurances are called for ~ for in the final analysis all PTE Members would benefit, perhaps Igor may contact Invision about these concerns. Brian.Conflow.

Hi Bruce, Many thanks for your reply. It's a funny thing, when Windows is "new" its a great OP.System but as time goes by it literally 'chokes-itself' with useless garbage, in particular the amount of Log-Files it accumulates would fill the Pentagon, and as for useless File references and empty Registry Keys....need I say more ! I have come across PC's where the Microprocessor spends more time processing 'gagbage' than it does operating a Program and as Windows operates within the User Memory (Ram) it means that everything eventually comes to a grinding halt....then the real problems start. This 'rubbish' also leaves the PC so wide open that even a School-Child could 'hack it' ~ So I am a firm believer in doing a complete "Spring Clean" every few weeks ~ the results you have seen for yourself. Best regards. Brian.Conflow. -
Gentlemen, Google SHOULD NOT BE IN THE PAID MEMBERS LIST if anything thats an 'invasion' of the Forum Members Sector and who know's whether thats Google or not ? ~ furthermore what Moderator Permissions have been granted to this "Google" (if any) if it be Google at all ?. I have no objection to genuine Google being a Guest Visitor to our Forum, I'm sure they would be more than welcome ~ but 'breaching' the Members List is a bit much to accept. Why not give them a Membership Number at least then they can be identified ??? The point being, how many more 'Unauthorised Members' are allowed access rights to Post what they like, when they like without Moderator(s) supervision. Here I speak for myself as a Member and I shall say that I am concerned for my Computer(s) Security when these activities take place without being challanged. Brian.Conflow.

VIGILANCE I know that this is strictly "off-topic" but in consideration of whats happened to "Dominique" and the erasure of his valuable Web-Site may I ask all members to be particularily vigilent when Logging-On to the Forum. May I suggest that Members look at the 'Forum Members & Guest Listing' at the end of the Opening Page and look for "Unauthorised Members" within that Listing and report same. The "Attachment" shows an Unauthorised Member logged in as alias 'Google.Com' and whatever he was up to god only knows ~ and lets be honest, our Forum has been attacked many times in the past and perhaps its time that we take steps to protect ALL our interests and simple vigilance would do exactly that. Hi Jeff, Nice to hear from you again ~ everything is fine with you ~ thats good news. Windows Defender If you are running XP, Windows Defender is an excellent Program and it literally does what it says on the "Tin" - It defend's the Windows Op.System particularily the Win.Kernel & Cabs and it does that silently. Microsoft no longer supports Win 2000 Pro with the Defender Program, so we now use IOBit WinCare2 for 2000 Pro. Recently we started to use a new program called 'Browser Retaliator' from Zamaans Software (Link Below) This is designed to protect your Web Page,ie:- Your Search Page & Home Page and all active parts of IE. It works by detecting any 'script-changes' within IE & Mozilla (Hacker activity) and promptly "Tags" and blocks that and then deletes damaged components and restores to you a brand new Home & Search Page from its own (insulated) Backup. I recommend it ~ it has saved my PC's a number of times when all the other Anti-Virus/Hijack Systems failed. XoftSpy by Paretologic.Com ~ I paid for this years ago and its updated twice weekly, and its my right hand man against these parasites both the 'silent types' and the advertised ones. I now see that they have an "SE Version" which is always on guard. Works with 2000.Pro - XP(All) - Vista(All) So to cut things short, one has a choice of:- Being 'Defensively Protected' and/or 'Pro-Active Defence' and it looks as if the latter is giving the best overall protection combined with a good Anti-Virus Program. Dominique, I completely agree with Lumenlux and Lin Evans ~ it may be a Provider Problem ~ or the work of a Phisher. These hackers actually "Alias" genuine Servers letting you believe that the Provider is responsible whilst at the same time stealing your Web-Site. Before you do anything "Check-Out" your PC before going to another Provider. I would seriously suggest the following:- Get on to www.paretologic.com LINK:- http://www.paretologic.com/xoftspy/se/newlp/xray/?uid=dd0wo and run the 'Free-Scan' of XoftSpy for Keyloggers and Phishing Loggers ~ purchase it and clean-up if thats necessary ~ It may be that you have been 'Hi-Jacked' by a Phisher and this Program will sort that out. If your PC is clean then its definitely a Provider security problem ! Let me know how you get on. Brian.Conflow. -
Terri, This may help you:- At the bottom of that received EMail will be a long string of characters, example shown below:- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PTE] "Key"="0vFigforSbp0YX8UaQY26EI941QAX44NxdzKUnGgvWColxNa3kNjFZpt............... Copy and Paste the whole thing into "Notepad" (save as) and place that within the PTE Program Folder and 'restart' your PC. That should do it for you. Brian.Conflow
