Hi Igor 1. No error message just disappears from taskbar while the second app is open 2. Not been able to reproduce the problem, it has happened 4 times since beta 4 was released 3. It has happened in the main window of PTE I have not used the new video builder as yet 4. Application switching is by clicking application title on the task bar. Regards Geoff

I have had random closing of PTE5 beta 4 on three seperate occasions now usualy when switching to another open application ie photoshop. I don't think it's a hardware problem as I have 360gb of HDD and 2 gb ram. Tried on my wife's computer and had the same thing happen only this time switching to a music editor. Operating system on both is XP pro. Anyone else had anything like this happen? Regards Geoff

DaveG we have a rule for digital images that says that they must be 1024 X 768 easily done by extending the canvas size in photoshop for portrait mode slides which are 768 high or landscape slides which are cropped to letterbox mode. There is a guide to re-sizing images on our web site at http://www.rdps.co.uk/open/index.htm if any of your members would like to take a look. What we need is to be able to flag a particular image in a manual slide show say by pressing the "1" key to enable them to be called back but non flagged images be excluded. There is software available which will do this but it tends to be total image management software such as IView Media Pro but it's a large sledgehammer for a small nut. I'm hoping that Igor and the team will see this as an opportunity to increase the appeal of PTE by including these competition specific features in a future release. Geoff

I would like to see a right click menu option in the timeline which enabled you to right click on a slide and select all slides to the right of the chosen slide to enable all those slide to be moved. I know that the windows keyboard shift+end can be used but this moves you to the end of the timeline as well as selecting the slides. I suggested this once before but having done a quick search was unable to find it so thought I would try again. It is an invaluable feature when doing slideshows containing large numbers of images. Regards Geoff

Thanks Igor re-naming in lightbox works fine now. Great service as always. Regards Geoff

DaveG do you just use PTE to show the pictures, ie manual slide show or have you some way of recalling a particular image for award consideration? Geoff

Hi Ron. I have done quite a lot of research into competition software and it seems to me that most clubs seem to have "someone in the know" who puts together software to suite their own needs. My own club runs a national competition which attracts some 2500 entries slide and digital and we use a microsoft access database (we have a database "man in the know" in our club) to run the competition and to project via a third party viewer, the digital files. It seems to me that there is a demand for software for camera club competitions and with the wnsofts' teams expertise in slideshow and image manipulating software, a real opportunity to expand their product base. I'm sure that there are any number of people on this forum who could set out the capabilities such software would need to have. My club is in the process of moving all our internal projected image competitions over to digital so I shall watch this topic with interest. Regards Geoff

Ken using the lightbox the originals are re-named using V5 but PTE does not appear to track the changes if a slide is used more than once. Although in all the windows the copy slides all show the new name, the problem only appears to show itself if you try to save the pte file or run a preview. Geoff

I have just finished a slide show and as is my normal custom I went to the light box and re-named all the slides I had used in the show, to reflect the order in which they appear, ie 01.jpg, 02.jpg...etc. One particular slide I had used 3 times throughout the show and when I re-named the first one (01.jpg) the remaining 2 also changed their names to 01.jpg. However when I tried to save the pte file PTE told me that it could not find 2 pictures both with the same name and both copies of the original 01 slide. Is there any way to get around this other than what I had to do which was to delete the 2 copies from the show then re add them as copies of the original but now re-named slide. Regards Geoff

Hi Tom consign media player to the re-cycle bin where it should be and try this freeware player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ which I have found plays every type of video and audio file perfectly. Geoff

I have a new slideshow on Beechbrook cottage called The Natural Year which depicts the passage of natures year from winter to spring, summer, autumn and back to winter. I would appreciate feedback on the show, both positive and negative please. Regards Geoff

Hi Igor I have had a link to PTE on the "Links" page of my web site for some time. Please look at www.geoffstone.com and see if you would like it modified in any way, which I am more than happy to do. Regards Geoff

Will this decompiler make it easier to copy pictures from slideshows, and if so is it a good idea to make it available even to members of this forum. I can understand the need for Igor to have this capability, but would question the wisdom of it being available ouside of the wnsoft team. Geoff

Jeff, Lin and Ron be assured that all your efforts in creating pdf tutorials are very much appreciated by the vast majority of PTE users. Anyone who is prepared to share their expertise and knowledge with NO financial motive, and to give so freely of their time to help others get the maximum enjoyment from PTE is in my opinion what this forum is all about. Generosity and a consideration for others are qualities which are sadly lacking in the modern world, but they are here in abundance. regards Geoff

Thanks for the info must have been a glitch on my system. Regards Geoff

There should be no difference between PTE and Nero because as far as I am aware PTE uses the Nero burning engine. I found this out by accident when I tried to burn a DVD using PTE it told me I could only create the DVD files but not burn them as Nero was not present on my computer (I use Roxio burning software) Would be interested to see if someone could confim that the above is correct. Regards Geoff

Thanks Lin I'll give that a try. One question is it possible to create a 16:9 slide show for DVD using the same method? best regards Geoff

What is the largest 768px high image size which can be used for panning. I have a landscape 4096 x 768 which when set to cover slide (fit to slide gives a very narrow image) works fine on pc giving a good pan along the complete image. However if I save to DVD it gives a narrow image on TV screen exactly the same as the fit to slide mode. Geoff

Hi Jeronimo If you purchased P2E v4.48 before version 5 was released to the best of my knowlege if you install 5 it will recognise your 4.48 registration and make you a registered user of V5. The deluxe part of V5 is for the video builder which needs an extra registration which costs 20 USD. I think some of the confusion is that people expect there to be two different applications to install, which is not the case. The single install of V5 puts the video builder on your computer at the same time as the main application but you will need to activate Video Builder with the 20 USD licence if you wish to use it. If you have no need of the video builder just download and install V5 and you will be able to use everything except Video builder. Geoff

Hi Barry When this box is ticked if you delete a slide the timed point on the timeline is not deleted with it so presumably you can add a replacement slide in exactly the same place without affecting the timings of other slides, or just leave a gap without causing the remaining slides to re-spread themselves in a synchronized show. regards Geoff
-
John you could try this at no cost http://www.burn4free.com/ Geoff
-
Hi John To the best of my knowlege PTE5 can only burn one copy. I would be reluctant to advise using windows to burn DVD's, much better to use specialist burning software if you can such as Nero, or a freeware application. Geoff
-
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum The best way to make multiple copies is to select "create DVD folders" and /or "create ISO image" in the last but one screen of the DVD builder then use Nero or whichever burning app you use to create as many copies as you need, after PTE5 has created the files. Regards Geoff
-
Al slightly off your very interesting discussion but did you change your monitor resolution to 1280 x 768 or is there a way of making PTE 5 shows display at the size of the images? Geoff

Does anyone know of any freeware software that allows Mac computers to run PTE slideshows please Geoff
