Hi Jeff I would recommend that you download a trial copy of TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator and give that a try as it will encode to all formats that you may need. The method is the same as creating an avi file but it encodes straight to mpg2 (for DVD) and takes about 20mins for a 5 minute AV on my computer ( 2.5ghz cpu 1.25gb ram). It produces first class results and is worth the time to learn how to use it. The advantage is there is no further encoding by your prefered DVD production app, and the mpeg files can be dragged and dropped into your project. If you have several AV's to encode you can open several copies of PTE each with a seperate AV point TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator at all of them and then go to bed and let it do the encoding through the night. This will produce a seperate mpg2 file for each of your AV's. hope this is of some help regards stonemason

Hi Ken You didn't upset me, I just found the tone disapointing, but enough said about that and lets move on. I did put the mpeg output in the wishlist post not long after it was started, and the reference to ProShow was a comparison, not a vote to use it. PTE produces far superior Audio Visuals and in the UK is the standard app for AV competitions. People who use forums need to be aware that new members, possibly with very little AV expertise, or experiance are joining all the time. We must therefor try to answer any query, or comment in such a manner that people are not put off seeking information, or asking questions that to the more experianced of us seem to have an obvious answer. regards stonemason

Hi Al as always reasoned and well constructed input from you. My remarks were not intended as a critisim of Igor and his team, who I wholehartedly agree have produced, and continue to refine the best audio visual app there is available. However questions about "TV viewable" output continue to attract lots of interest and opinion from forum members, and a considerable amount of the total number of posts on the forum. Therefore it is reasonable to keep examining this issue. As I said mpg2 output is a wishlist, not a demand. I use the frameserving to TMPGEnc myself with excellent results, but for people new to digital AV production I think you will agree it is not the easiest concept to get to grips with, so the more reasond debate, and sharing of information the better. Ken "and i suppose you still want p2e to fit on a floppy 1.44 as well" I find the sarcastic tone of this reply both dissapointing and unnecessary.

Interesting discussion, which explains why the top of my wish list for PTE v5 was the ability to output mpg2 direct as does ProShow gold.

It also records streaming audio from the web. Hope this helps. Regards stonemason

Hi conflow recently went to Kenya and all my camera kit was xrayed around a dozen times out/inbound I didn't use the films I took so I cannot comment on those, however the friend I went with used film exclusivly ( I think 200 iso) and that suffered no ill effects from similar xray exposure to my own. I took 2000 images on my Nikon D70, stored all of them on my Nikon coolwalker and I had no problems at all. Having said all this make sure that all your films and kit travel as hand luggage as the xrays used on hold luggage are much more powerfull and quite likely to damage films. Hope this is of some help. regards stonemason

Is there anyway of completly filling the screen of a 16:9 tv set with PTE video output without any black boarders, and if so what image size must the originals be? regards stonemason

Hi Lin I hope I did not cause you any offence with my previous reply, it was not my intention and I apologise if I have, reading my comments again they were worded in a way that could easily be misunderstood. I have always thought that getting slideshows onto disc (DVD, SVCD, or VCD) is the one great weakness in an otherwise superb piece of software, and I confess to taking every opportunity to bring this to people's minds. I thought that the images in your presentation were first class. Regards Stonemason

Hi Lin downloaded your slideshow which played with no problems on my amd 2.5ghz, 1.25mb ram, and nvidea fx5600 graphics card pc with no problems. However I feel that your excellent images were let down badly by the over use of pan and zoom effects, which re-enforced my own opinion that Igor and the teams time would be better spent improving PTE's ability to produce good quality mpg files without resorting to frameserving to other applications. My opinion is that this would have been of more benifit to the majority of PTE users rather than the effort spent on pan/zoom which seems to have the ability to turn a very good slideshow into a very tedious experiance very quickly.

Hi Marianne when you open several files in photoshop just make the one you wish to work on active and hit the F key to maximise the image and when you have finished working on it hit F twice more to take it back to windowed mode. Hope this helps oh and the F key is with caps lock off stonemason

Thanks Severn Bore does this then mean it's best to set the value to 0 for fade transitions?
-
I have done several searches in all forums to learn about the effects of smoothing line thickness. Although the default is 60 some say this has no effect on fade transitions. Can someone please clarify if the thickness should be left at 60 or set to 0 for fade transitions please?

Worth thinking about - the value of free updates
stonemason replied to Bethan's topic in General Discussion
The internet is riddled with pirate software, which cannot be condoned but with the policies in place by some companies as outlined by Bethan it can only make matters worse. Igor and his team do a wonderful job with PTE enabling users to create some truly inspired and entertaining slideshows. Long may this continue and long may Igor and his team recieve the support of the PTE using community. -
Igor what settings did you use for this, I am using 10 second push right to left effect, .1 millsecond display on screen time and image size of 1024 X 678 and am still getting the black band between slides. I'm using V4.43 of PTE
-
Hi denwell tried rendering using 100% but still got the same black bands between the pushed slides, guess I'll have to wait for V5 thanks anyway for input
-
Thanks denwell will give that a try and hope V5 fixes it
-
Has anyone rendered a slideshow to avi or mpg with the push effect set to .1ms to give the effect of panoramic pan. I did this and it works well as exe file but gives a wide black band between slides on dvd or svcd. Is there a cure for this, and will the new pan effect in version 5 fix this problem. any help would be appreciated. thanks
-
Hi Jeff Hawk is correct I've done several menu driven CD multishow projects which all work fine, just delete the path and call only the exe file name. regards stonemason

Alan is this an open competition, and if so how do you go about getting entry forms for 2006? regards stonemason

An option in the timeline to right click on a slide and "select to end" useful for moving blocks of slides
