  2. i DISABLED THE SCHEDULING AND BACKGROUND SCAN -- Resident Shield and have been managing exceptions as they come up R Mouse feature and everthing else appears to be working from the avg help file Resident Shield alert This dialog informs you that a virus infection has been detected by the Resident Shield component while accessing a file. The dialog gives a name and full path to the file, name of the detected virus, and details about the process (running application) during which the threat was detected (display by pressing Show details). The buttons in the bottom part of the dialog allow you to decide what to do with the infected file: · Heal will remove the infection from the file, and restore the file to exactly the same state as before infection. Please note that if the file itself is a virus, healing will delete the file, that is, remove it to the Virus Vault. · Move to Vault or Remove threat will remove the infected file to the Virus Vault, AVG virus quarantine where you can safely store the file until further decision. · Ignore will leave the file on the disk where it is now, however, the Resident Shield will not allow you to access it. If unsure about what to do with the detected threat, we recommend to use the Heal button. If healing is not available, then it is best to use the Move to Vault option. In the Virus Vault, the file can be safely stored until you find a cure (you can send the file for analysis, too) and are able to restore the file, or until you decide to delete it. Remove threat as Power User – check the box if you suppose that you might not have sufficient rights to remove the threat as a common user. Power Users have extensive access rights, and if the threat is located in a certain system folder, you might need to use this checkbox to successfully remove it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When i first heard of this program years ago i was warned that virus checkers quite often see it as a virus http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ AVG 7.5 did not see it as such but 8 does -- i put it in the exception list If you have your restore point setup and there is something in there it will see it -- this is a note i sent anohter person quote fyi only ken things to watch for if and when you install ver 8 -- the way i read this · Ignore will leave the file on the disk where it is now, however, the Resident Shield will not allow you to access it. you are screwed if it dont like something you might stop the alarms but you cant use -- i have lost the altavista toolbar and MY MAQUEST TOOLBAR - http://www.emsisoft.com/en/malware/?Adware...apQuest+Toolbar http://www.file.net/process/mqtbar2.dll.html http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=MQ...earch&meta= http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&pwst...are&spell=1 - SAYS THEY ARE ADWARE so far tho they still work with browser tho' i do not generally have the 2 enabled i went to the resident shield section and "managed exceptions" then found the path and enered same for each ken

  16. 1. DOES COFEE SPY ON OFFICE? See an expanded version of this article with Microsoft's full statement on COFEE at http://news.office-watch.com?610 Microsoft is now talking about COFEE, a tool they have released to some law enforcement agencies to let them take a look at Windows computer in a faster, less intrusive way that's easy to use. Microsoft says the tools come on a USB 'stick' which can be inserted into any running Windows computer - a series of scripts can gather information about what's on the machine and save it directly to the hard drive. It's said the tool is useful because it can be used to gather information while the machine is powered on-site and before it's turned off and removed. Of course that also means that COFEE could be used on a covert basis to quickly 'peek' into a computer and gather information without the owner knowing. Great for corporate spying on rival companies. Microsoft says that COFEE is meant for use "by law enforcement only with proper legal authority" but they can't be so na‹ve as to believe the tools won't spread to other people and be used without legal approval. After all, Microsoft hasn't been able to control piracy of any of their other products. Microsoft has said that COFEE doesn't include any 'backdoor' methods of bypassing the encryption systems included in Windows - for example the Bitlocker hard drive encryption in Windows Vista. However there are other password protection features in Windows, Office and other Microsoft applications. At Office Watch our particular interest, as always, is how COFEE might affect Microsoft Office users. So we've asked Microsoft for comment on how COFEE can be used to open password protected files generated by MS Office applications - that includes the older Office 2003 document formats, Office 2007 OOXML document plus less obvious things like password protected Outlook data stores and Access databases. We've asked Microsoft about this but they have declined our invitation to let their Microsoft Office customers know about any changes to the accessibility of documents made with their software. EXTRA: You can read our questions to Microsoft and Microsoft's full statement on COFEE on our web site http://news.office-watch.com?611 We'd like to hear your views on COFEE - see the expanded version of the article online http://news.office-watch.com?610 for contact information. ______ KEN
