thanks Cindy we will quite likely send many people to "Cindy's Mac Method" It really helps all when somebody has the answer to unique problems and are willing to share their experience. So many times we give possible solutions to problems and never hear whether they worked or not. The beauty of the forum is the free echange of information and ideas and then Igor can take the solutions and make a better Beta ken

From one of my birder friends quote Hi Ken, I wrote an article years ago for Birders Journal on sound recording for birds. Ambient is a bit different in that one is using a stereo setup where background noise is a key factor. If you wish, I can send you an attachment of the article but the section on equipment is a bit dated. Now mini disc recorders and solid state recorders with flash cards are preferred to analog. The MacAuley Library of Natural sounds has a website section on sound recording and there is a very good forum on Yahoo called naturerecordists which covers virtually everything you could want to know on the subject. One can peruse their archived messages with a primitive search. Cheers, Scott ken

Gary get yourself a copy of Irfanview http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/ also get the plugin package the install inst's are on the site it will recognize a scanner scan slide in as a tiff then using irfanview save as a jpg at 80% comp see how pte likes it now or open your tiffs that are already scanned with irfanview -or the files that have been processed by Photoshop if it is a wrong extension it has the smarts to tell you that it is wrong and will recommend the proper extension i have had a similar problem with pictures that i saved with adobe and with paintshop pro acting up -- they seemed to have a hidden extension even tho' they had the jpg extension -- never had those sort of problems with irfanview frustrating but you will get it ken
