Larry, i dont mean to be smart but please save your key to floppy and put it in a place where you will remember -- many times memebers have a crash -- reformat etc and they need another key RIGHT now!!! and the discussion gets unnecessarily UGLY -- it seems to happen on weekends or holidays ken

I should have qualified my reasoning for scanning the auto picts so big -- i was trying to get rid of the jaggies -- with Andrew Busst coaxing me and critquing I searched www.scantips.com and read what he had to say re MOIRE effect - it was a real exercise in scanning but the principle can be applied with all your picts if you want to take the time and have the space on your drives ken

United Way 2001 (6.2M) ashleyphoto@hotmail.com is his address if that is any help ken

for some theory on pictures see www.scantips.com Wayne makes the statement on his site that if you are scanning in a picture that you dont have access to again, scan it as big as you can as a tiff then resize it and save it as a jpg with 75-80% compression -- most of the shows that are offered at the cottage i dare to say are 72 dpi jpgs at either 800/600 or 1024/768 - my auto calendar show at the cottage was scanned at 300 dpi saved as a tiff and each picture was 20 to 25 meg in size - i then resized them to 640/480 and saved as a jpg using irfanview default settings at 80% -- the resulting picts were in the 70 to 80 kb size each - the 240 picts =15.3 mb disk space the rest of the show is the 6 mp3's music + the overhead of p2e on the old forum there were many times this subject was brought up and some of the best shows were 75 to 100 kb as told by the authors. Guido and Ian Bateman to name 2 members have said time and time again that they are getting satisfactory results with 800/600 72dpi jpgs with projection shows. with prices coming down for large hard drives, burners, blank cd's etc it is wise to save your picts at various sizes etc to evaluate things -- i quiite often use the magnifier with irfanview and play with the picture to see what you can get away with --- i used to show the picts on a tv and see where the break point occurs -- i found if you get much below 70 kb size you get the chunky pattern showing up -- the tv is a worst case condition for viewing -- but it is the ideal testing tool for evaluation ken

Kim it has been proven many times that a very satisfactory show can be produced using jpgs 75 to 100 kb in size with compression ratios of 75 to 80% ken

with my install of xp home there were a pile of things that wouldn't work --too old - a popup would come up telling you to read the compatiblity report that was generated when xp was installed - source for report is C:\WINDOWS\upgrade.htm - it also -- and i kinda vague on this -- would give you the option of making it work by clicking another button -- this was w95 software -- - i still have software from win 3.1 days that is still working -- and still have win 3.1 in a folder on a partition for oldtimes sake ken

In the Feb 2003 issue of PCWORLD is a report on getting hosed when buying cameras http://www.pcworld.com/features/article/0,...d,107855,00.asp from my experience over the years it is advisable to get a brochure of several cameras you might be interested in beforehand and study what comes in the package. then go shopping -make sure all the pieces that are listed are there -- most important is to check the warranty card -- if it is not honoured in the country you are living in move on. if they wont open the box -- move on good luck and do your homework one of the worst mistakes is tourists who buy a camera out of country to save a few bucks and then when they get the box open the paperwork is either missing or in a foreign language ken

From past discussions the average size of jpgs is 75 - 100kb -- that seemed to be a suitable size for all applications ken
-
Jeff, does the problem occur when running on the hardrive or on a burned copy did you try make/playing your show un synced ken
-
Rod, wouldnt do it for me -- did you do it on line or a saved show - i tried both [] ken

Jim, if we had the old archives we could find it. Igor or somebody from wnsoft should be jumping in here {[] k

you should compare the readme etc text files that come with each version -- print them out and compare how far the product has come, then when you install and run ver 4 beta 1 you will see how far behind you are --- you will find things that you might be used to not in the same place now and it will take some rootin' about to find them. But somebody will steer you in the right direction ken

Perhaps my reply will jog some of the "old guys" and they will correct me If my memory serves me right the hot blocks and a couple others were elimanated in one of the betas by Igor, but he received so much flak from some members that were using them, that he put it back in. Now maybe he is giving a subtle hint not to use them -- ken

I am going to ask the obvious -- have you checked the recycle bin for the folder of pictures ken

ronwil the subject of copying pictures has been brought up numerous times in the past -- the latest thread http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums//index...ct=ST&f=2&t=207 and quite likely more can be found if you search further. as the title of the thread states "a possible deterrent" ken

Granot when you got your first copy of p2e, and you had not paid for it , when you made a show -- you were limited by the # of slides and there is a box in each frame that states that the program is un registered. download Pi Beta Phi File Size: 6M By: buckb@houston.rr.com at the Cottage and you will see what i mean i suggest[request ] that Igor incorporate the box feature into the program and the author has the option of turning it on -- placing it in each slide where he wishes with the appropriate text in the box and going one step further give it the smarts that JaySpry suggests - the photographer could then make his "proof" cd for the customer, when he/she were paid and terms agreed on make a cd with no "warnings" c/w the users choice of music etc - The final cd may be all that the customer wants, therfore money MUST change hands before this CD is made -- the customer may be satisfied with the cd and not require "paper picts" so the photographer has invoked the "CYA Policy" by getting the major portion of the bill at this point As Guido says it should be a simple matter as the "box" is already in the program it just has to have some smarts to do the above features. ken
