  1. Peter, If you are saying that the 'star' can be clicked on to be taken to the first unread post, this is not happening with me. My 'star' is greyed-out and does not function except to tell me, with a mouseover, that I have posted in the topic. If this is true, I wonder if it is due to the fact that I am using Win8? Please let me know if your 'star' is black or is it grey. When I have a black circle, it will take me to the first unread post. Thanks... Gary
  2. Greetings Peter, Ok, just for the sake of discussion, let's first talk about the 'New since my last visit' selection. If I have made posting to this topic, it shows a 'star'. To view the postings in the topic, I could click on page 2 and maually scroll down to find the first unread post. Or, I could click on the 'Today' icon, but that takes me to the 'last post'. Now, what if I am away from the Forum for, say, a week or more. And there are, say, as dozen postings that I have not read yet. Why would I want to go the the 'last post'? I would want to go to the 'last unread post'. This, to me, is a 'logical problem'. The previous version would take you to the 'last unread post'. Why change this logic? See attached. Gary
  3. Greetings Igor and Peter, Thanks for the info. I never noticed the small 'circle' that you mentioned. However, my small 'circle' does not say 'Go to last UNREAD post'; it says 'Go to FIRST unread post'. Maybe it was just a type. I don't see what the 'New since my last visit' does. It does not seem to do that. The 'star', indicating that I have posted in that topic, doesn't do much, actually nothing. So my only choice is to click on the 'Today...' to 'Go to the last post'. But what if I want to go to the first unread post in this situation, not just the last post? It would make more sense if it went to the 'Last UNREAD post', not the last post. I am sure I am the only one who thinks these changes are unintuitive and unhelpful. It seems they want to make something 'new' again by changing things that don't really need to be changed. What's new? It was logical before. Not so much now. I am sure, eventually, I will get the hang of this, but I give it two thumbs down. Gary
  4. Thanks, Igor. Much appreciated. Gary
  5. Eric, Every update or change to a program is never perfect. There are always something that needs a tweek. Why did Igor create a Topic for this??? Yes, I do think it is strange that I am the only one who reported this deviation from the way it used to be. But you have posted questions that no one else has had. So let's get real and just try to help out and not post comments that do not further the discussion in a helpful way. Don't know what SSC is. Gary
  6. Eric, I am getting pretty tired of unhelpful comments like that. We post what we believe and what we think and we ask questions. If a program worked in a certain way that was beneficial and logical before an update, I think one would believe that it should still be there after an update of a program. So all I am asking is to bring it back if it can be brought back. Making the people who are in charge of the program of a perceived problem seems to be a logical step. We do that with betas of PTE. Telling someone that it 'doesn't matter what you think' is pretty lame. If we just hum along, as you say, we surely would not get far. Maybe I don't have correct setting somewhere, maybe not. But, for me, the Forum is not acting as it did before the update. For all the questions you have posted on this site, I am amazed you even consider saying what you said. Gary
  7. Eric, Yes, I tried that. But I don't think that should be a requirement. If you select 'New since my last posting', and then 'View New Content', it should not show posting you have already read. It worked in the previous version, but not now. Gary
  8. Dave, So, could it be a setting that I have missed? When I click on the link in the email notice of a new posting, it goes directly to that new posting. But when I do what I have mentioned above, it does not show only the New Content, it goes to the beginning of the old read content. This is in Win8. Gary
  9. Dave, I also use Firefox, so I don't think it is a browser thing. Peter says to click on the 'Today' icon. That does not make sense. What if it has been a week since you viewed the Forum? Does the 'Today' only show what was posted 'today'? What about the postings prior to 'Today'? Selecting 'Contents I have not read' makes perfect sense but it does not do that. I added some screen shots. Gary
  10. Peter, I don't think you have understood my posting. If I go to 'View new content' for a topic, and, say, there are 3 pages of replies, and I have viewed every one except the last one, I expect to automatically be taken to this last posting. This is how it worked in the previous version. However, now, it dumps me at the very first posting in the first page of the three pages and I have to manually scroll to that last new posting. If this is the way it is 'supposed' to work, they have taken a step backwards for no good reason. Sure we can adjust, but why make the viewing of postings more difficult??? What good is 'View new content' if it shows you already read content? Gary
  11. Igor, The original topic was apparently removed but I don't think one of the problems was resolved. It still is not working as it did in the previous version. It does not recognize postings that have already been read, as I described in my posting in the original topic. Is there a setting I am missing or not?? It does not skip over the already read posts. I have 'New since my last visit' selected. Gary
  12. Igor, It still is not working as it did in the previous version. It does not recognize posting that have already been read, as I described in my previous posting. Is there a setting I am missing or not?? Gary
  13. Peter, I'm not sure if you are saying it is working corrrectly or not. But I think it is not working correctly, yet. For example, I have "New Since My Last Visit" checked. Then, I click on "View New Content". Then I choose the "Updating of the Forum Software" topic. It currently has 2 pages. Since I have been following this topic for each posting, I expect it to automatically go to the last posting on page 2. It does not. It goes to the first topic on page 1. Then I have to manually go to page 2 and scroll down to the last posting. This is the way the previous software worked. I hope it can be fixed. Gary
  14. Igor, Along this same line, it seems that the new software does not automatically recognize the postings that we have already read. I seems to always return to the first posting of a topic. So we can apparently manually click on "Mark Community as Read", but before it automatically placed us at the new unread posting without having to keep scrolling down to the new posting. Nor does it seem to pay attention to "New since my last visit". Gary
  15. Greetings JRR, I have mentioned this before in other postings, but this might be of help in getting more info from video and sound files. I like to use the MediaInfo program. It gives much more information about these files than the Windows Properties/Details tab. See the attached where I ran an mov in MediaInfo. Here is the site to download (free) if you want to try it out: http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo Gary
  16. ======================== Greetings Dave, Just wondering, how can you tell if Full Slide Duration was used in the show? Are you talking about the 'Keep Full Slide Duration' menu choice? Or something else? Yes, very nice show. Gary
  17. Greetings Lin and Dave, I've been playing around with it some more. I was just doing something simple by adding a video to the first still image (making it Master) and then copying/pasting the Master video clip from the first still image to subsequent still images (with Link to:xxx). So the video is playing on top of the background still image. Works well. I also discovered that you can skip an image and paste the Master video clip (as a Link to:xxx) to another still image and the video will pick up playing on that slide, if the video is long enough. I wish, when you fade out the video by changing the video's opacity, that it would also fade out the video's audio. I know we can extract the audio from the video (and muting it) and do the fade out of the audio in the Timeline. Thanks for the help. Gary
  18. =========================== Lin, I gave it a test in one of my shows. At first I thought I got it, but now I have a few more questions. I 'added' a video clip to a still image. Set it to be 'Master'. When I play the show, the video stops as expected at the end of the still image, but the video's audio continues. In a previous test, I thought the audio stopped as expected. Shouldn't the video's audio stop in this circumstance? I then copied the 'Master' video clip in the first still image and pasted it in the second image. It automatically was 'Link to:xxxx' the Master video clip. Great. And then I pasted (from the Master) it to the next still image (automatically was 'Link to:' again) and the video played across all the still images. Great I skipped the next still image and then pasted the 'Master' video clip to the following still image. The video did not show as expected on the image without the added video, but the video's sound did play and the video picked up again on the last still image. Is this the way it should be working? I don't think this follows where you said " Do not copy and paste the video from the first slide because if you do it will set the instance to Master Video on each slide", unless I misunderstand it. Gary
  19. =============== Dave, Got it! Thanks... Gary
  20. ============== Dave, Yes, that is what I was missing. Maybe it should be mentioned in the On-Line Help. So you would continue the 'Linking:' to still images to match the length of the video's playing time. Thanks... Gary
  21. ========================== Greetings, Thanks Dave and Lin for the further explanation. I understand now better what it is supposed to accomplish. But what is confusing to me is what is linking to what. In the example, the inserted video (which is selected) looks like it is being linked to itself because the file name of the inserted video is 600_184.converted and it is set to 'Link to: 600_184.converted'. It seems to me that the inserted video should be linked to the slide image(s) in which it has been inserted. So, I'd expect it to say 'Link to: Image 05'. Maybe that is what is happening but I just can't see or grasp what the example is showing. I will have to play around with it. I like the idea of playing the video seamlessly over multiple slides. But then, the more I look at it, I see the initial insertion of the video is set to 'Master video track'. Then subsequent insertions of the video in the following still images will be linked back to the initial insertion of the video with the 'Link to: 600_184'. So you will have to do the 'Link to:xxx' for each subsequent still slide for the length of the video's playing time so the video will not stop before the video is finished playing? If this is how I should think of this, let me know. Thanks... Gary
  22. Greetings, In the Help On-Line manual topic, 'Add a Video Object', the following text has been added: The Video Clip can also be added to subsequent Slides and "Linked" to the Master Video Track Animation of the Video Clip can then be added across multiple SlidesCan someone explain this a little more? I don't understand what the "Linked" to the Master Video Track will do. In the example, the video file in this image is the same video file name as in the earlier image. So it is not clear what is being 'linked' and what it is supposed to accomplish. Thanks... Gary
  23. =============== Igor, Super!!! Thanks. Gary
  24. ==================================== Dave, Yes, I understand you can do that within PTE. I am saying that it would be nice to have the link in the Forum, so if you need to check something out while in the Forum, you have quick access right there. See attached. Gary
  25. ===== The Forum site seems to be working OK but an attempt to download the 8.0.2 version is not. I get 'connecting...' and then, timed-out with 'Problem loading page'. Gary
