Barry, This is the way the timeline works in non-synched mode. If you add a number of slides to the slide list, and set project options in certain way, unless you customize the timing of certain slides, they will play back according to the timing you have set, or using the default timing, if you have not changed anything. Even if you use the timeline to change certain intervals, so that the show time matches the music, and then re-select "non-synched mode", when you exit from the timeline the times you have set there will be ignored, and PTE will follow the default times, or any times you have modified in Project Options or Customize Slide. To make the show fit the music in non-synched mode, you have to change the default times and/or transition times in Project Options and/or Customize slide. So, you can see, it's easier in this case to use the "synchronized" option, and set the new times on the timeline, in which case the default or modified times in Project Options, etc., will be ignored, and the show will fit the music.

Hans, If you use "Fit to slide" in the "O/A" menu in v.5, the objects should line up OK (provided they line up in your original project ). Note that you don't have to also check "Fit to screen" for the background in "PrOps / Screen"). But make sure you do choose an aspect ratio in "PrOps / Screen" which suits the images you are using.

Firstly, version 4 does not offer pan & zoom. Secondly, have you had a look at my free basic "PTE-101" tutorial for versions "pre-v.5" on Beechbrook? http://www.beechbrook.com/pte/index.asp?ca...yid=&page=9

Hi, Barry, Welcome to the Forum. First of all, does the slide list contain slides not indicated on the timeline? In other words, do you have more than 67 slides in the slide list? If so, remove the slides not on the timeline. Secondly, check the timeline for slides added past the vertical red end-of-music indicator-line. (If there is no line, then you are OK). Either remove any of these too, and also from the slide list, or else adjust the timing of the show (slide durations and transition times) so that all the slides fit on the timeline. Remember that in v.4 the total time should equal the total "duration" times plus the total "transition" times. Thirdly, if all of these conditions are met and there are still timing problems, report back here.

On my system they are both out of line, and both look not too bad.

Have you tried the new "Video" features in v.5 b.8? It's really very simple now. There will probably never be a "definitive" tutorial on creating DVD's for two reasons: 1. It is too complex a subject, as there are no standards (at least ones that the manufacturers and software developers adhere to) so there are too many possible combinations of computer hardware, players, and software and operating systems out there now for one to produce a methodology which will work for everyone. And, there are many preferred ways of going about it. It is really a "hobbyist" world, and you have to be willing to read up on all the literature, and experiment with many different possible setups in order to get it right. If you haven't created DVD's yet, then the learning-curve ahead of you is steep and treacherous. Just ask some of the people who have climbed it! 2. The technology is changing too fast to be able to keep up with it in a tutorial, unless someone is willing to keep updating it. Please don't let this discourage you, as the learning process can be a lot of fun if you are willing to play around with this technology - but you may have to change your system of attack and just dive in and start trying things out in order to be successful. And make sure you have a good stack of DVD blanks before you start!

Hans, These features are not enabled yet in version 5. See: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4860 for a list of missing features.

Crystal, Welcome to the forum! Do you still have the old computer? If so, look for a file in the PTE program folder called "PTE.KEY" or "PTE.REG", copy it over to the PTE program folder on the new pc, and double-click on it to install it into the registry (it is a text file exactly 231 bytes in size). If you don't have your old files, then send an email to support@wnsoft.com. Best of luck!

Welcome back! Does version 4 still run OK? What pc and video card do you have? It may be you don't have the horsepower to handle v.5 (min 64 Mb video ram, and preferrably 128 MB+). Action on mouse clicks aren't enabled yet in the new beta, but they will be.

In a previous post I mentioned the difference in timing definition between v.4 and v.5 (confirmed above by Igor). However, I was incorrect in one aspect. When one imports a non-synched show from v.4 to v.5, unless the duration time is less than the transition time, there is no problem with importing the show as the timing is automatically corrected for each slide in the "Customize slide" menu. For example, if a show created in v.4 uses a "Proj Ops" duration of 4 seconds and transition time of 5 seconds (total time 9 seconds), in version 5 "Proj Ops" will show a duration of 4 seconds and transition time of 5 seconds (but duration should include transition time for any new slides added). However, v.5 corrects the timing for each slide in "Customize slide", so that for each of the previously-added slides, duration will be 9 seconds, and the transition time will be 5 seconds, so that the maker will not notice any difference in the timing. However, Project Options should also be designed to show a duration of 9 seconds, not 4 sec. As it is now, if the maker adds a new slide to the show, and then runs "Preview", he or she will receive the caution message shown below. This is because Proj Ops is instructing the program to use a duration time of 4 seconds and a transition time of 5 seconds - an incompatibility in the new PTE v.5.

Robert, Hans has just posted a link to an introductory show for his new series of nature slideshows, using mouseover buttons, at: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....amp;#entry34990 . He uses MMB, and claims it is very easy to set up. Maybe he can help??

Hans, This is a well-known situation. In version 5, the timing definitions have changed - in v.4 "duration of slide" excludes the transition time, whereas in v.5, it more correctly includes the transition time, thereby making the older shows run faster. So, to run a non-synched v.4 show in v.5, the timing will have to be re-established. One way to do it would be to use the "Adjustor" spreadsheet model to readjust all the times first, and then import the show into v.5. See: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....transition+time .

Can someone tell me if the Edit function is working?
alrobin replied to Lin Evans's topic in General Discussion
Lin, I find "AdAware" finds many more "critical" spies than even the relatively new MS system. So, I use it regularly. -
You will also get a message like that if you try to open in v.4.48 a project that was created in v.5, or if you double-click on a v.5 project to open it.

Tom, "OnMouseOver" is a standard command in Visual Basic, Visual C++, etc., just like "OnLeftClick", etc., so should not be difficult to implement in PTE. And, it shouldn't require an HTML-based page to display it, either. Once things settle down in v.5, it might be something for Igor & Co. to consider.

Yeah, the learning curve on most of these is pretty steep (and long!). However, you could program invisible PTE objects to provide the info when clicked on On pressing one, you would jump to a different image, looking very much like the one you clicked on, but with the names showing, and it in turn programmed to return to the starting image after a suitable length of time, where you could then start again with a different invisible button, and so on, ad infinitum. Not as elegant as a "mouse-over", but I doubt if there is any commercial software that will do this for you without at least some programming. Maybe Tom will have some ideas. Best of luck!

Hi, Dom, The rest of the files you requested are back on my site.

Hi, Dom, Yes, sorry, I removed the files to make some room - will put them back temporarily (if I can find them) so that you can download them again if you wish. Just give me a few minutes. Ciao, Al

Hi, Stéphane, Welcome to the Forum! And you brought along a great AV sequence, too! I enjoyed two of your productions, "Les bagnes de Pouolo-Condore" and "Une soirée qui prend bien", last year when we hosted the SuperCircuit. "Les bagnes" placed 2nd in the Canadian leg of the competition. Congratulations on your high standing in the final overall SC results again this year! I am glad you switched AV systems, as now we will get to see more of your work! You are going to love PTE v.5! If we can be of any help in some of the technical aspects of the program, don't hesitate to ask (it's obvious you don't need any help with the creative side of AV's! ) All the best!

Just to add to what Gilbert has said, it looks like he has a "built-in" video controller, in an AMD Duron 800-MHz pc. It shares RAM memory and probably isn't adequate for v.5. I recommended he ask Santa for a new pc for Christmas!

Yes, welcome to the forum, Harry! You are a brave man - most people start by asking questions, and here you are already offering advice! Keep up the good work - we need more people like you around the Forum! (not that there's anything wrong with asking questions! )

Robert, It would be handy to have this capability in PTE. You could arrange to have the names appear when you clicked on an invisible button. Flash will do it for you. Also, you can put this capability into an html file, using "Image Ready", (included in PS 7+). A bit of a learning curve, however. I have also done this with Visual Basic.

Congrats to both of you - Guido for 1000 and Larry for 100! (Guido don't reply to this post, or you will spoil it ).

There was quite a bit of discussion on this a while ago. Check out this thread: http://www.picturestoexe.com/forums/index....rding&st=20 .

Larry, I knew Brian would solve your problem - he usually knows what he is talking about! Just one further suggestion - I have set IrfanView as the default program for opening jpegs whenever I receive one attached to an email, or when I double click on a file, as I have found it to be much faster than photoshop or corel draw in opening image files. And, by hitting "Enter", the image is immediately viewed full-screen.
