Ray, Why would you have to re-scan them. Could you not just dump them into Irfan View, and re-size them? I doubt if PTE could conveniently handle images significantly larger than 3800 x 2200.

Barry, Just a further note on your good advice. It may be best for some to not include a folder name at all, unless you want the link to be to a particular separate folder such as "slide shows", as in your case. It may be safest under some conditions to just dump all the necessary application files into the same folder as the "exe" files, and leave off any reference at all to a particular folder. Of course, if you are sure you will always have the sub-folder, "slide shows", on every CD you produce, it is possible and effective to set it up as you describe.

Dave, That's interesting - one finds new little idiosyncrasies with PTE every day! I haven't heard of this one before. Makes sense, though - Igor has all the bases covered.
-
Bill, That's really good news! Thanks so much for having second thoughts about this and opening up shop again! It was obvious that your site was sorely missed. Good luck with this, and I hope you have no more problems with hackers in the future.

Hi, Larry, I hate to see a man without anyone to talk to, so here goes. I haven't had much experience with video, particularly with the new versions of PTE as I prefer to show my resentations as EXE files, so I can't offer any help. However, maybe this is something that Igor should have a look at. It wouldn't hurt to send him an email, although he is very good at picking up problems from the Forum postings. Maybe if you post a message on the "Video" section of this forum someone there will jump in and offer some hints. Best of luck.

Hi, Blondie, Welcome to the Forum! I won't call you "Dum Blonde", because I, too, am one. (a blonde, that is! ) One thing you might check is that all transitions definitely show up on the timeline and none are to the right of a vertical blue marker at the end of the music. If you have X images in the slide list, the number of the last transition on the timeline should also be X.

Lifeshots, Welcome to the Forum! I don't know if this applies to your case or not, but I discovered recently that if you are not using the timeline to synchronize the show, and you have no transitions showing on the timeline, but you check "Project Options / Synchronize slideshow to music duration", the show will follow the Project Options and Customize Slide parameters OK, but some of the slides may repeat several times, and others may be skipped over. In other words, if you are not intending to synchronize the show using the timeline, then you shouldn't check "Synchronize slideshow to music duration".
-
Tim, Are you playing back via the CD player? Or, do you have some transitions that are very tightly spaced from each other?
-
You can already do both. The "Preview" button allows you to view full-screen, and the "Play" button allows you to see both the images and the waveform (provided you have first clicked on "waveform").
-
Uncheck "Auto adding of new transition points for new slides" in the "View" menu of the "Customize synchronization" window.

Ralph and I did a little further experimenting, and have concluded that the reason for the last slide showing is the two options, "Show transition effect to / from desktop" under "Project options / Screen tab". Un-check these in Show 2 and the problem goes away. I had thought that might have something to do with it but not having access to Richhaas' shows, I couldn't seem to verify that that was the problem - thanks Ralph for the clue as to the source of the problem. When I removed the two options from your test shows as you suggested, the problem was no longer there. Igor, is this something you could possibly look into and have the last slide of show 2 of two linked shows not reappear, but allow the second show to merge gracefully into the desktop as it is supposed to do?

Hi, Kevin, Welcome to the Forum! Yes, you can have the file names automatically displayed via "Project Options / Comments / Set comments for all slides as / Picture name". Sorry, Jim, I didn't notice the multiple post. Glad to see our replies are consistent!

Pinquin, I'm afraid that even if you could switch the timeline on with all the durations and transitions exactly as you have input them using "Customize Slide", the length of the show would not be the same as that in non-synch mode. The reason for this is that under "Synchronization" mode the total time does not include the transition times (only the duration times), whereas, under the current design, in "non-synch" mode, the total show time is the sum of the transition times and the duration times. For this reason, if you are going to use the non-synch option, you will have to calculate manually the total time by adding all the duration and transition times. Alternatively, you can use either Jean-Claude's Sy(P) model, or my Adjustor model to give you the total time in non-synch mode. But I agree with you that it would be useful for non-synch users to have the ability to automatically see the current time for the show, even in non-synch mode.

Ralph, I don't see the last slide again when I start a new show from "Project Options" - maybe I'm doing something wrong. But you're right, you do also have to check "Close show after last slide" for the first show. Otherwise you will return to it after showing the second.
-
Richhaus, It is possible that you are calling the next slideshow using the command in "Customize Slide" on the last slide of the first show instead of Project options. If this is the case, try opening the next show using the option in "Project Options / Advanced" instead. If you are already using the correct method, try playing with other options such as disabling "Show transition effect to desktop" in "Project Options / Screen", or try playing around with the timing of the last transition in each show to make sure you are not overlapping any transitions. If all else fails, you can send me a copy of each project ".pte" file (without any music or image files) if you wish, and I will have a look to see if I can spot anything out of the ordinary. (alrobin@alrobinson.com) . If this doesn't work, Jim's solution with the black slide should. It is often more elegant (and certainly more traditional) to close a show by "fading to black", anyway.

Bill, It is possible to use multiple music selections without joining them in a sound editor, but in order to do this effectively you have to observe common practices when dealing with sound files such as making sure each one is terminated properly, just as Guido has indicated. It's also called "head and tailing".

Hi, David, welcome back. The easiest way? Put in some music and turn the volume down.

English translation: The AV sequences for Supercircuit 2005 have already started to come in. You can consult the list on the internet site: www.diaporamacircuit.com / "participants" . You still have time to send in your productions until the 20th of August, the last day for accepting entries. Internet Site -
momoftwo, I'm back for another kiss! (I'm blushing). I was afraid that bunching up the points might be a problem. However, there are a couple of things you can do to alleviate the problem. 1. First of all, you probably know that you can move several transitions at a time by clicking on the first one of a group, shift-clicking on the last one, and then grabbing and moving them all together with the mouse. 2. If you highlight all the transitions in the first group, and select "Timed points / Set time of points ..." (or "Ctrl-T"), you can bunch them all up by inputting a shorter slide duration value such as 1000 ms. Select a value that puts the last image approximately at the end of the third music selection (a quick calculation will give you the value required). Then you can easily position the last image of the group and follow the directions in the previous post. Then repeat this process with the transitions in the second and third groups. Hope this helps!

Alison, If you are using PTE version 4.4, it is quite simple to accomplish this, even if you have your images already loaded. Click on the "timeline". Rearrange your first group of slides so that the last image in the group is positioned at the end of the third music selection. (as you probably know, the end of each music piece is displayed as a blue vertical bar on the timeline; alternatively, you can see the breaks between music pieces on the waveform). Click on the first transition point (the small blue rectangle). Then "shift-click" on the slide you positioned at the end of the third piece of music. This will highlight all slides in the first group. Then select "Timed Points / Arrange selected points". All slides in the first set should now be equi-spaced over the first three music selections. Repeat this process with the other two sets. Let me know if you have trouble making this work.

Hi, alandhowie, Welcome to the Forum! Are you synching your show to the timeline? If not, this could be another reason for differences in timing on different playback equipment.

Brian, This gives new meaning to the term "software". Or should we call it "catware"? Maybe Norton should be on the lookout for a new "feline-virus". Perhaps Isabel has a solution for you. My daughter's cat loves to sleep on my monitor whenever she brings it over for us to babysit. However, I've been expecting it to burn out one of these times (the monitor, not the cat) due to the accumulation of hair in the vent openings.

Bill, Many of us have benefitted from your kind and generous service in the past, and we will miss it very much. We also sympathize with you in your frustration over these malicious attacks - these and other recent world events all bear witness to the low levels of depravity to which some so-called human beings are willing to stoop.

I second Jim's request. This is probably the most talked about and problematic issue with the otherwise fantastic object editor. But while you're at it, could you also please consider the following: #2: ability to input a slide number to advance or go back to, as part of the nav bar. #3: ability to customize the navigation bar appearance. #4: ability to preview the objects in the normal preview window #5: include a thumbnail view of the objects along with each image on the slide list and light-table; alternatively, an indicator next to each image containing embedded objects. #6: ability to copy and paste objects from one image to another (or several at a time) without having to first open the object editor for each of the destination images. #7: option for hiding the border on the "button" object. #8: take the rest of the summer off first. Thanks, Igor, for continuing to consider our lengthy "wish-lists".
