  1. Hi, In the Timeline View when you adjust the volume of a clip by placing the blue markers on the red line and dragging you get a visual indication that that clip is something other than 100%. However in O&A / Audio if you adjust the volume in the Volume (%) box there is no graphic indication in Timeline View. Why is this so? Regards John
  2. Hi, Sorry for not getting back to you before now. I am now able to do all I wanted thanks to your suggestions, Cheers John
  3. Hi i am not able to experiment with this for a couple of days but will respond then. Thank you both for your input. John
  4. Not at my machine at moment but looks promising. Thanks
  5. Hi, Is there any way to change an object in O&A and retain (transfer) the characteristics (Properties/Animation) from the original to the replacement? I'm using PTE9. John
  6. Hi, Having started this topic it may be of interest to someone still in two minds to know that I have not experienced any issues since installing W10. However, I run it on my Mac only for PTE and Audacity within a virtual machine (Parallels). I do not access the internet through Windows but only from the Apple side of my machine utilising Mac protection which as I understand it is less vulnerable than a PC. Regards John
  7. Hi, Having started this debate on Sunday I am keenly following it though within a few hours of posting I took the decision to proceed. So far I have no regrets and have heard no compelling reasons for not having taken this decision though who knows what the future may hold. In my initial post I asked if there were any known issues with PTE and W10 and if there were any benefits. It appears to me that subsequent posts have suggested that the answer to both these questions are NO. Living in Scotland you may be aware that we have gone through two referendums in the past couple of years. A feature of all sides of both arguments involved has been FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt), which I suggest may be unintentionally evident here. I also suggested in my initial post that I was conscious of the old axiom “if it ain’t broke don't fix it”. However, I have in recent years convinced myself to take advantage of most of the upgrades, I consider safe, offered by software suppliers such as Wnsoft, Apple, Adobe, MS etc. This has rarely as far as I am aware been detrimental. I decided against Windows 2000 and Vista fortunately. To my simple mind if upgrading within a release of software is generally recommended then upgrading from one release to the next is logically very similar though clearly more thought and judgement is required. After all we all upgrade other products though I accept there are still a few Model T Fords about. Not so sure about DeLoreans! Finally, thank you all for your contributions and I hope that others may also find this thread interesting, informative and hopefully helpful. Regards John
  8. Hi, Perhaps a fuller explanation from me as to why I have upgraded from W7 to W10 is needed. Way back in the past, before I saw the light and moved to Mac (joke), I vaguely remember a number of crises surrounding MS OS’s (ME, 2000, Vista). I stuck with XP for as long as possible before moving reluctantly to 7 (I think under a degree of MS duress at the time). When 8 came along I decided not to jump. When 10 was released, similarly I decided to bide my time. However during this time I have heard favourable reports of 8, 8.1 and 10 from PC users. As I said in my original post when MS announced that they were withdrawing their FREE offer to upgrade I thought it prudent to consider making the move now. Additionally, since moving to Apple I have had the benefit of 6 OS upgrades, all free and with no significant problems plus where needed excellent customer support. With all the above in mind I felt that now may be the time to make the move to 10 given that it appears to be stable and at this time free. Curiosity regarding W10 or expected operational gain for PTE are not a priority. I hope that clarifies things. Regards John
  9. Life is too short.
  10. Hi, Just to wrap this up. I'm pleased to have raised a few hackles. Little else gives an old man like me as much pleasure! Barry, I used to believe that XP was great but for some reason that escapes me now, I moved to Windows7. Regarding the upgrade to W10. I can report that it is now up and running though not without problems. Despite having followed all the advice from MS in preparing for the upgrade it failed twice. I searched their help pages using their error code without success. I was not able to find any MS telephone support either. To be fair I am running Windows on an iMac with Parallels but with the resources MS have I would have thought that they could have catered for that. As in the past it appears that they still have their head in the sand! (just a joke, don't get excited). Eventually I went to Parallels and found that they had a platform for upgrading which worked without a hitch. Finally, Balloons, you have reminded me that I have recently been struggling with some Sony software for connecting my GPS equipped Cyber-shot camera to my iPhone and iPad.. I've got it sorted out now but it was a bit of a nightmare getting there. I'm away for a lie down now as this has been all too exciting! I need to get ready for PTE9 which my diary tells me I can expect sometime this week according to a recent post of Igor's!!!!!! Cheers and thanks for the interest everybody. John
  11. Thanks JudyKay, Well, there is hope for me. At seven years short of your father's age you have convinced me that I should go for it before i'm too old!! John
  12. Hi Folks, I would appreciate advice regarding upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I use Windows7 on my iMac via Parallels only for PTE so have up till now resisted the kind invitations from Microsoft to upgrade to W10 for free on the basis that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. However, MS I believe are presently saying that if you don't upgrade by the end of July the free offer will laps. Are there any known issues with W10 that would cause problems with PTE? Are there any benefits? Thanks John
  13. Hi, Thank you for sharing that. I really enjoyed it. It is refreshing to view an "experiment" that actually tells a story and not just a demonstration of their skill. Well done. John
  14. Hi i agree that a printed note version would be great. I know of at least a couple of my friends who would agree as we all sometimes have to revert to PP on occasions. John
  15. HI, Thank you all very much for your responses. I have opened and re-saved a backed-up version that is only one day old. I have therefor decided to re-do yesterdays work rather than delve into the depths and mysteries of Windows with all the risks that that would entail! Once bitten twice shy as they say. Once I have finished this project I may give Google Drive another go but for the present that's a no no area for me. I'll just stick with Dropbox. Cheers John
  16. Hi, I think I have found the source of the problem but don't know how to go about resolving it. Yesterday I installed Google Drive and for some reason PTE is being directed to that Drive (W-as it happens) it should be looking at "V" Drive. I have removed GD now but unfortunately each time I have today tried to open a recent backup (while Google Drive has been on my machine) the drive letter has been changed. Rather than having to re-do work of several days is there any way I can SIMPLY change the drive letter in the corrupted versions? Regards John
  17. Hi, Can anybody offer some advice as to how I can solve the following issue? I have been working on a show for some time and have today, when opening it, found that I am getting the Error Message - Missed Images, Video, Transitions & Audio. Every slide is affected. Normally when I get this message it is because I have moved files but I have not done this. I have checked that all the files are in fact where they should be on my working drive. My machine backs up automatically to two external hard drives several times per day so I have tried to open from there but get the same result. I have restarted my computer. It appears to me that this may be a PTE issue in that it is failing to make the link to the appropriate folders but I am only guessing. However, I have checked other shows and they are opening as they should. Any suggestions? Cheers, John
  18. IGreat news! I am tempted to cancel my holiday so that I can be amongst the first to use it!!
  19. Hi Igor, I think this was hinted at some time ago but it is good to hear that it is definitely being implemented. Does the fact that this post is coming a little "out of the blue" at this time suggest that we can expect an imminent announcement of the release of PTE 9.0? John
  20. Hi, I don,t know about Crossover but I use Parallels and it works a dream! john
  21. Dave, Sounds like a good idea to me. John
  22. Hi at risk of hijacking you post Ronnie, I am running Paralells but have resisted the temptation to upgrade to Windows 10. I would be interested to know if any of our community using Paralells have any comments on their experiences? Hope all turns out for the best soon I'm sure it will not be a PTE fault my money is on MS!!
  23. Hi, Can anybody offer up to date advise on this topic. I can't find anything later that this (2008). I’m looking for the least expensive yet practical PC laptop for using with a projector to show PTE sequences some of which may be reasonably demanding in terms of image resolution and speed of image transitions (i.e. three or so 1920x1080 per second). I may also use the machine for demonstration purposes of PTE, Lightroom, Audacity etc. I am a very happy iMac user (with Parallels) for my production needs but can't justify the cost of a good MacBookPro! Just a few up to date guidelines re Graphics would be appreciated. Cheers John
  24. Hi all, Thank you for your replies. I have now had time to play with this. I was aware of the fact that you could move slides individually or in groups about the time line in this way provided you use the number tags to drag with. I wasn't aware that you could insert slides without moving the adjacent slides (provided their duration does not exceed the available time). However, the significance of “lock all tracks” seems to be the clincher for me. This will enable me to retain the synchronisation of the video action contained in specific key slides with the audio track. Thank you for your persistence! John PS - PTE and the Forum Members never let me down.
  25. Actually, I haven't as I have been away from my machine. I will this evening. On reading it remotely from PTE I thought it wasn't what I was looking for. Sorry about that. I will get back to you in a few hours. Regards john
