  1. Hi, I hope this isn't another false alarm. In the past hour I have noticed that in a project I am working on the bold type of the file names of my used images within the “selected directory window” has changed to standard in almost every case. A few file names are still in bold and if I add a new image it appears in bold. Any ideas? Cheers John
  2. ENGAGE BRAIN Sorry folks, Got it Ctrl + F11 Ctrl = F12 Cheers
  3. Hi, Could somebody please tell me how to adjust the size of the timeline across the main window. Somehow I have managed to change things so that only 7 seconds of time is visable (great for precission I guess but not what I'm used to or need at the moment!). I can't find anything in “help” but perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place? Cheers John
  4. Hi, Regrettably, I doubt if Wnsoft could make a decent business case for building and continuing to develop a MAC version. They would almost certainly have to charge more for the MAC version than the PC version. Such an increase would go some way to reducing the cost associated with running Windows as an app on a Mac. In my experience, though not as yet, totally ideal I find working in this way quite acceptable and believe that the actual working relationship between image processing on the MAC side and AV construction on the PC side to be very satisfactory. Software like Parallels and Fusion have improved considerably in recent years and I see no reason why they will not get even slicker. Perhaps we should let them do their thing and let WnSoft concentrate on developing this wonderful program. John
  5. Hi, Thanks all for your replies. Lin, I was not aware of "Ignore Objects Not Selected", Having switched it on now I think this is going to resolve my issue having tried to replicate the issue that prompted me to make my post. I assume you now realise that "T to S" exists under the Common Tab in O&A. As far as I am concerned I no longer see any need for this to be switched on as a default. Thanks John
  6. Hi, I think I may have raised this issue in the past but can't recall getting any feedback, presumably because nobody else finds this a problem. It may well be the way I work but I find it quite irritating that "Transparent to selection" has to be selected, rather than having the option for it to be set as a default. Does anybody else share my view? If so I would be happy to post this as a suggestion for the future. Cheers John
  7. Igor, Dave, Jeff & Lin Congratulations and thank you for all your work and dedication to what is going to be a wonderful asset for all of us who will use it. Best regards John
  8. Hi Lin, Thank you for that, as ever, extremely detailed reply. It simply appeared to me that the Audacity/Wiki pages offer links to both on-site and off-site Tutorials which appear to include a wide range of locations including the likes of YouTube. Have a shifty at the attached. Regards John
  9. Hi, I am not in any way qualified to offer a technical opinion on this matter, though I wholeheartedly endorse and encourage any action that can simplify the process of locating advice and knowledge of PTE. I would however ask if consideration has been given to the use of Wiki. I have been impressed by the way in which Audacity uses this service and I recall that Igor has hinted in the recent past to the possibility of adopting it in some way. Regards John
  10. Hi, I feel I should add a final comment to this thread. I think I made it clear in my original post that I was asking for an explanation as to why I was getting what I felt were inconsistencies in the figures being generated in the zoom field. I am indebted to both jt and Lin for taking the time to explain this to me and presumably others who may also have noticed this for themselves and wondered what was going on. As it turns out, perhaps it doesn't "matter what the zoom says", however for me a text sizing tool for titling would be a much more user friendly (and accurate) method than copying and pasting or relying on the eye when creating titles. One of the great strengths of PTE is its flexibility, enabling the free expression as appears to be being expressed by Big Kev and the precision required by equally artistic exponents of work produced by the likes of Lin and many others. Hopefully, some of us have learned something. Cheers John
  11. Thanks Lin, I understand now. It did actually cross my mind as I was submitting my last post that both blocks of text had different numbers of lines so that I may and indeed was not, comparing apples with apples as it were. I will now just have to live with this. I recognise that there are very good reasons for this being the way it is for those of you who perform intricate actions with objects and that TEXT is just another object. However for those of us who use TEXT in a more "conventional" way it is not in the least bit intuitive. Perhaps there is a case for an alternative tool for fulfilling basic titling? Thank you both for your help. Regards John
  12. Hi jt, Thank you for responding. I confess I was having just a little trouble interpreting what you were saying (not being particularly mathematically literate!!). However Lin has confirmed I was in fact on the right track. Your methods are I think similar to the one I describe in my opening post and is also one I often adopt. However, can you explain the following please? Capture A (slide 1) shows the size of a block of text on this slide with the zoom set to 15. Capture B (slide 2) shows the size of a block of text on another slide with the zoom set at 33. Both A and B's text are approximately the same size visibly. Neither block of text is a parent or child of any other object on their slide. Capture C (slide 2) shows the size of the same block of text with the zoom set to 15 How can this be? This is something that I come across quite frequently. How do you think this is happening? Cheers John
  13. Hi, Perhaps somebody can explain the rules of working with "text" in O&A? I quite often use titles in some of my sequences and find it difficult to get consistency of size. My usual approach is to create a title to the size I wish, then copy and paste to the next place a title is required, delete the contents and copy the empty object and paste that wherever else a title of that size is required and then edit each with the required wording. I have to do it in this manner as the "zoom sizing" in O&A Animation does not appear to be always consistent. I am aware of Parent/Child situation. I often end up with what visually appears to be like sized titles but with different "zoom" values and yet both are independent objects. If anybody can provide some definitive rules I would be much obliged. I think I have in the past asked for this matter to be addressed in future issues but as that has not to date materialised, perhaps it is not considered necessary, in which case I must assume that I am missing something quite basic. Cheers, John
  14. Hi all, Thank you for your input, particularly to you Lin for taking so much time to TRY to educate me. I've come to the conclusion that I don't want to invest more time on what looked like a good idea at the time. Furthermore, being a true Scotsman I don't want to invest money on what would be a ten second intro to my sequence. I have learned something about alpha channels if only its not as simple as .png, so I'll reluctantly stick with what can make work and with what I was quite happy with before stumbling on that video!! Thanks again, John
  15. Thanks all for your replies. Peter, I have tried your suggestion, however, though I get the sky image to appear the checkerboard of the video also appears over it or through it, not sure which. I have tried using the video as the mask and the sky as the mask but not getting the result I was hoping for. Erik This was my first thought and tried both but whichever is on top of the stack is displayed. Lin, You'll need to give me time to get my brain round this I'm afraid. I have Camtasia2 so may play around with that. Would be interested to hear if that in your opinion is a no no! Ken Not had a look at your URL yet. Cheers John
  16. Hi Folks, I wonder if anybody can help me? I wish to create an effect within a title slide of grass in the foreground, sky in the background and a title moving up between the grass and sky. I know how to do this using a .png of the grass in the foreground - however I have identified and downloaded a bit of 1920x1080 video on Vimeo that states - "the video has an alpha channel so you can easily add this in front of your other content". To the uninitiated like me this sounds like a video equivalent of a .png and indeed it looks like that in that the grass moves in front of a checkered background like PS. I've no idea what an alpha channel is nor how this could be utilised in PTE. I have imported the video into PTE and it plays but will not permit my sky image behind it to be seen as I had hoped. Any ideas? Cheers John
  17. Hi, I'm not sure what you mean. The little arrow at the top right of the O&A moves to the next or previous slide and in the timeline and slide view the arrow keys on the keyboard perform the same function. John
  18. Dave, Thanks for these. John
  19. Hi, Thank you all for your responses. You have given me the confidence to "battle on". Regards and thanks, John
  20. Hi, Thanks for the replies to my original post. As ever one question leads to another. I have posted a non PTE question regarding Colour Management in the Equipment and Software section of the forum to which I would very much appreciate a response from anybody who is knowledgeable on the topic. Regards John P.S. I have tried to leave a link to that post but can't work out how to do it!!!
  21. Hi I feel certain that this is a common issue and may well have been addressed before so please forgive me if this is so. I am struggling to explain, in simple terms, to club members why our club laptop monitor and projector show different colours (when connected). I think I understand the reason but would like confirmation that my understanding makes sense! Firstly images should be produced from the image editor (PS) etc. in sRGB, the monitor of the computer producing the image and that running PTE or displaying the image should also both be correctly calibrated as should the projector. Most projectors use sRGB. My basic understanding of colour management is that any given colour has specific R, G, B, colour values and that calibrating equipment creates a profile that enables calibrated equipment to generate the correct colour values. I also understand that a laptop or PC utilises a profile through its graphics card when generating an image. When a PC is connected to a projector it uses the profile for the projector in order that the correct colours are projected. However as most PC's have only one graphics card they can only use one profile at a time so therefor use the projector profile to run the monitor while the projector is connected. Hence the wrong colours being produced on the monitor at that time. Am I basically correct? I understand that MAC's are different and don't have this problem. I have to admit that as a MBP owner I have not noticed the problem when I use it with a projector. I don't use it very frequently in this way and believe that it would not in fact concern me particularly. I understand that there are PC's with two graphics cards and projectors that utilise RGB but those are way out of budget for our club! The opinions of those who understand this issue would be appreciated. But please remember that I am not a technical person!!!! Regards John
  22. HI, Thank you for your speedy reply and link. I raised the question as a result of discussion with a friend who had suspected that this was the case but we wanted to get confirmation which you have now provided. Thank you John
  23. Hi, Is there any colour management for images within PTE? John
  24. Hi, Encouraged by an interesting answer from Peter to an earlier request today I have decided to take a closer look at the "Adjust image and border" tab in O+A Properties. Other than the "Border" section I have up until now ignored Crop, Canvas size and Animation. Crop I think I can live without but Canvas Size I don't understand at all and Animation totally thought me on playing with it. If anybody can provide a simple explanation it would be much appreciated. No doubt there are more than me that would benefit. Cheers John Added Later. I now understand Canvas Size
  25. Peter, Thanks for that. This is just what I wanted. Approximately 90% of the images I will be using in this project require the same border. It is much simpler to change the 10%. Cheers John
