Another item for Igor's proposed PREFERENCES? DG -
Why have both 100% and 80% versions? I'm refering to Batch Processing from RAW to re-sized 80% JPEGs. In my case the RAW is 25Mb and the JPEGs are around 2.5 Mb. DG

Neil, There is absolutely nothing wrong with your argument. I took a long look at some of my shows and assessed the size necessary to create shows at the limits of what I had done before. This told me that, apart from rare occasions, I was using no more than 200% zoom into an image. Couple this with the size of existing projectors (and TV screens) and you come up with a figure of 3840x2560 for my 3:2 images. That can easily be acheived by batching and the resulting images can, as you say, be inserted into a PTE show and still fit my requirement for 200% zooming. In my case it means a saving of, on average, 2 Mb per image over a full size 100% quality Jpeg from the same original (25% saving). In your case it would be more like 33%. Go one step further and reduce the quality to something like 80% (which my images SEEM to cope well with) and the savings (in my case) become more like 75%. A 100Mb show becomes 25Mb (based on all JPEGS - no video). What I am suggesting takes no time to accomplish - a simple batch process which re-sizes and saves at 80% quality reduces the overall file size (images) to 25% of the full size 100% quality figure. It should take no longer than about 10 minutes. You have to ask yourself how quickly you see projectors and TV screens increasing in resolution - my guess is that it won't be next year and that 2560x1440 projectors are going to be beyond the reach of all but Lottery winners for a year or two more. But, once again, there is nothing wrong with your philosophy. DG

Once the ISO file is created, just double click (DC) on it. If any of your Burning sofwares support it - it will open up the required module. e.g. on my laptop DC on an ISO brings up the ROXIO Burn Image Module. On my Desktop DC brings up the CyberLink Burn Disc Image Module. DG

I agree Peter, But the point is that we now have to cater for the highest resolution that things are going to be shown on - and not the lowest (or even our own projectors). It's been that way for some time. DG

They arrived here in camera clubs etc around two or more years ago - 1920x1080 is standard. DG

ISO ....and not just for multiples. dg

Gary, There is no info in the second file. DG

We agree Lin. At present we are trying to figure out why Gary's MOV's have mysteriously changed from 24p to 30p. DG
-
I don't have a D7000 and don't want to guess but the obvious answer seems to be that at some stage you altered SOMETHING? Have you altered from NTSC to PAL or vice versa etc? Perhaps the EXIF would give a clue? DG
-
Hi Gary, It IS 23.98fps - for both NTSC and PAL 1920x1080 (24p) but there are also 30p and 25p options - page 313 of the Manual. DG

I suspect that this is the reason why Igor created the Converter to give us optimum performance? DG
-
Agreed - I envisage using video as a background rather than as the "main event". But a nice slow pan would be good. What about this business of trimming in PTE and using the Movie SOOC - have you tried that? DG
-
My "oft-quoted desire to achieve the very best possible quality" applies to JPEGs and not to Video, which I have not really any desire to incorporate into PTE shows. (ooh you are awful!............) I believe that if you look back at previous posts Igor advised 24fps for PAL MPEG4 - the S9100 produces acceptable results when inserted at the native 30fps (for testing purposes) so I don't worry about it. I have bigger issues with smooth pans and zooms when shooting Movies - when I crack that, I'll worry about the technicalities of fps and MOV vs AVI etc. BTW I'm talking about inserting MOV SOOC into PTE and using PTE to do the trimming - I don't see the point in using ANY Video Editing Software when PTE will do it for you. If you need to keep file sizes down, that's different but if the output is MP4 then there's no penalty for using the originals (quote from Lin). The more you play with the files the more trouble you are likely to (but not necessarily will) get. DG

Hi Dave, The converted files are only 66% the size of the originals. That's a relatively small advantage. D300s movie is 1280 x 720 actually, and no, I've set them to 100% in the "Size and Position" window so they are at their true pixel count size. Yes, I corrected myself while you were writing. And I've just spotted another little quirk. The options in ViewNX2 for outputting MOV files are 24fps, 25fps or 30fps. I've tried both 24 and 25 so far. The 24fps is the one giving me the problem. The 25fps plays OK even if converted. However, there's yet another quirk: the Properties tab of the 24fps MOV file shows it to be actually 23 fps!!! (The 25fps MOV shows as 25fps in its Properties tab). As Alice would have said in Wonderland: "Curiouser and curiouser!" I wouldn't pay too much attention to the small details - use what works! I still think that there is a case for sending a short file to Igor and ask him to check it out. He cured a problem that I had with an MOV file that I had early on. DG. P.S. The files out of the S9100 are .MOV / 29FPS / 1920x1080 and are smaller than the converted versions - BOTH play fine.
-
Peter, Look at the File Sizes (Before and After) - if there is little or no advantage, then use the MOV File? Possibility - Ask Igor to check a short file from the D300s. Is anyone else here using a D300s for Video and getting problem/no problem? D300s Movie is 1280x720 - are you filling a 1920x1080 screen with it? DG
-
Yes, I'm using 7.0.5 I'm not the expert around here, but it sounds suspiciously like your PCs are underpowered (for PTE). I have PM'ed Igor and asked him to take a look at this part of the thread. I think that you could possibly start a new thread of your own and list your PC specifications and the problems that you are getting. DG

Nothing wrong with your project - MP4 created. DG

Make a template of a small single image pte (zip it) and post here? DG

right. you are not on a mac are you? if you post a template of a small single image show one of us could try it but i am not sure if it would prove anything. try reinstalling a new download of latest pte? dg

Start a new project. Put a new different image in (just one). Try that. DG

Splitter, Are you using the default settings of HD (1920x1080); High Quality when you select Creating HD Video for PC and Mac? DG

Add an image to the slide list. Copy and paste the slide so that you have two copies. Double click on the second and it opens in Objects and Animations. Place and size the image. Make sure nothing is selected in the Objects Panel - (RHS). Click on the Add Image Icon in O&A - top left. Add a second image and place and size as required. Repeat this (Copy / Paste / Add Image) as many times as required. You can customize the transition effect for each slide or a number of slides in CUSTOMIZE SLIDE. DG

Welcome back Andrew, I have long felt that PTE could be a viable alternative to PP for teaching purposes and had my working life been just a little longer I'm sure that it would have been used wherever I could have shown it to be so. Bullet Points will possibly upset the die-hards but I'm with you all the way. DG
