Folks, I think that I have cracked it. Not saying that there is not a bug but I have (I think) neutralised it. I had a HOUSE (Hugh Laurie) moment! I opened PTE 7.0.1 and made sure that the "intermittent" fault/bug was not there. I then created a blank 1920x1080 template and overwrote my original 1920x1080 template. In Manage Templates I told PTE to use 1920x1080 Template for new projects and Bingo, no further problems. Tried it on both Desktop and laptop machines - no problem. DG

Peter, See the Bug in 7.0.1 Thread. DG

4546 will do it ok. dg

Peter, Will you now consider installing V7.0.1 so that we can get another opinion about the possible bug that Jill and I have identified. I have installed to a different folder on my XP machine and not overwritten V7 - I sure that you could do the same in W7? We have had one reply from a W7 user who failed to see what we are seeing, but the more ammunition for Igor when he returns the better? DG

An indicator that the same update does not necessarily mean the same thing in different a OS? DG

John, When Igor gets back "in a couple of days" I have asked that he pay special attention to the bug that I think that Jill and I have identified in V7.0.1. Unfortunately, he published V7.0.1 last Friday (?) and to the best of my knowledge is not aware that there is a problem. DG

This problem has been resolved in AVG 2012 Free. DG

Harold, Consider upgrading to AVG 2012 FREE. The False Positive is resolved in 2012 FREE. DG

Colin, If you are not including Video in your project you can open your V7 project in V6.5 and publish from there. Using the AVG "model" you should report it to Virgin Media Security as a possible false positive. Same goes for Bitdefender. Ken reported early on that it was a known problem across the network. DG

Jill, See PM. Actually there are two V7.0.1 download links - I downloaded the latest one. DG

Jill, Could it have been a corrupt download? Both installations from the same corrupted download? "The reason I need to switch between the two options is when I am giving a talk & need to demonstrate to people what the options do. I always do live demos as it is much easier for people to understand if they can actually see it happening". I think that during a demo situation I would start a new project to demonstrate each of the two methods? DG P.S. I have now installed PTE V7 on my XP Desktop machine and while I am still getting the VIEW problem I am NOT getting the timing problems that you have described - I suppose that I have to consider that I too might have a corrupt download?
-
Jill, I think that you have to at least consider that you have a corrupt installation? I have followed your steps above on my Vista Laptop and I get what you were expecting to get. In other words I'm not seeing what you are seeing - logically, I can't see any other possibility. Would you consider uninstalling and re-installing? DG

Jill, I think that you need to use one method or the other (in isolation) and not try to mix the two in the same show/talk. I have been working with the V7 method of timings and find them to be completely logical BUT I haven't switched back and forth between the two methods - I can't concieve of a reason to do so. DG
-
Jill, If you stay with one method or the other are you then finding that things work as you would expect? DG

Lennart, AVG Free 2012 APPEARS to have solved the problem. I'm not getting the problem any more after updating AVG Free 2012 around noon today. DG

Changes in Slide Duration Version 7.0.1 Part 2 With “Keep Full Slide Duration” un-ticked: Works as you would expect for a V6.5 project. With “Keep Full Slide Duration” ticked: If you add 6 new slides with e.g. 8 seconds duration and 2 seconds transition you will get: Slide 1 transition = 2 sec Slide 1 Duration = 8 sec You must, however allow for the fact that Slide 2 Transition is also included in the Slide 1 Duration Time. If you want 2 sec transition followed by 6 sec time between transitions and the 2 sec transition of slide 2 must stipulate a duration of 10 seconds. If you make changes to single or multiple slides in Customise Slide you get exactly what you ask for: If you e.g. change the duration time and transition time for the first three slides to 12 seconds and three seconds respectively, that’s what you will get. Be aware though that in this example you will not have changed the transition time of slide four. Therefore slide three will be: Incoming transition = 3 seconds. Time between transitions = 7 seconds Outgoing transition = 2 seconds 12 seconds as requested. Moving slides: In my example the last slide would still be 8 seconds duration including the incoming transition of 2 seconds (no outgoing transition). If this slide is moved to become slide 2, it will maintain its 2 second transition time and its 8 second duration time. However the 8 second duration will now include its incoming transition (2 seconds) and the transition time of slide 3 (3 seconds). Therefore the time between transitions for (the new) slide 2 will be 3 seconds. 2 seconds > 3 seconds > 3 seconds = 8 seconds. This will also have an effect on the time between transitions for slide one which will become: 3 seconds > 7 seconds > 2 seconds = 12 seconds The original Slide 5 will become slide 6 and will maintain its 8 seconds duration but have no outgoing transition time. E & OE. DG Once again I would like to state that I am not necessarily endorsing the new Changes in Slide Duration - I am merely trying to explain what you should expect if you use it in conjunction with video.

Harold, You and Ken are both on Windows 7 - coincidence? I updated to version 2012 a few days ago - maybe version 10 has not yet been updated? DG My version of AVG is 2012.0.1831 Database Version: 2090/4545
-
Ken, I have tried it a second time and it works OK - VISTA. I was also able to run the original file that started the problem off for me without problems. DG
-
Stu, Please keep an eye on it? It does not happen with me (VISTA) every time and when it does happen closing and restarting PTE cures it. I have opened three or four times this morning and it has only happened once (with a NEW file). DG

I have just updated my AVG created a new show with V7.0.1, published it and all appears to be OK. Anyone else care to confirm or otherwise? DG
-
If you need to insert video into a show then you will have a problem publishing. If you don't need to insert a video into a show you can still work in V7 but to publish the EXE you need to use V6.5. When you need to Publish EXE open the show in V6.5 and Publish from there. DG

Thanks Phil, I am seeing this on a Vista laptop - I think Jill is XP. DG

Ken, What happens if you transfer a V7 EXE from your W7 to your XP. It will flag it. DG
