  1. It is always wise when installing new software or updates to software to use an Image Backup/Restore Software so that if you don't like what you get you can go back to where yo were in (usually) under an hour. Macrium Restore and Acronis etc are suitable products. DG
  2. Mick, I don't have an answer for you but it occured to me that the fact that you can't play DVDs might be related to the fact that it won't burn DVDs from Video Builder. The two things must be related somewhere? Surely it points to the drive? DG
  3. Perfect Disc is an excellent alternative for Defragging with Smart Placement and other advantages. DG
  4. Or you can move your TEMP folder from: C:\Users\xxxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\ ...to a drive which has sufficient free space, which I would have done any way. I make a conscious effort to avoid my software writing ANYTHING to my C drive. DG
  5. Agreed. I jumped in when you said that you had to close the program and re-launch, which is not necessary. It would be easier if it refreshed via a single click. DG
  6. I'm beginning to "warm" to your wife! DG P.S. Do you agree that you don't have to re-launch PTE to refresh?
  7. I think I can now see what you are seeing. If you had explained it properly!! If you send the image for editing from the FILE PANEL then it works as I/you would expect and an update is carried out free of charge. However, if you send the image for editing from the Slide List then, when you return, nothing appears to have changed until you go into O&A where the changes are shown straight away without intervention. DG
  8. I wonder if we are all on the same wavelength. Here's a before and after - PS1 is before I right clicked on the bottom image on the left and asked it to Edit Picture. Picture was edited and Saved. PS2 is after I returned to PTE without clicking on anything whatsoever.
  9. Beg pardon! The fact remains that you don't have to re-boot PTE to refresh? DG
  10. The ISO file is identical to that which would have been burned from PTE. I always do it that way and use ROXIO as my software because I know it to be fully compatible with my DVD burner. DG
  11. P.S. Stu, I'm not sure that I agree with your last statement - unless I am misunderstanding it. If I send an image from the File Panel (not the Slide List) to CS4 or NX2 and edit it then save it, the result of the edit is immediately visible in the File Panel when I return to PTE without performing ANY refresh action whatsoever. Unless I'm missing something, the only place that you can send an image for editing is from the File Panel? DG
  12. Stu, When working on a show I typically have NX2, CS4 and PTE open (although I find myself using CS4 less and less - only for Layering two different images). I've never, with my current setup, seen the need to minimise any of the packages to go work in another package. You advice is probably good though and something to bear in mind. DG
  13. Stu, If I send an image from the FILE PANEL to CS4 for editing and SAVE AS from CS4, when I get back to PTE the changes ARE shown in the File Panel but not in the Slide List. When I go into O&A any instance of the edited image reflects the changes. If I am working in O&A and have the image already open in CS4 I might go straight to CS4, perform the edit and SAVE AS. When I return to PTE O&A the image which I edited remains in its pre-edited form. I then go back one slide - forward one slide for the edits to be "recognised". It depends on your way of working. Is a big black blob in the centre of the image drastic enough? DG
  14. I'm missing something here...... Go to next or previous slide and return to original? Works for me. DG
  15. Being a musician I did it the easy way. Count the number of bars and multiply by the number of beats per bar. Divide the time by the total number of beats to obtain an accurate timing per beat or 2 beats or 3 beats etc. Enter that time into the Project Options Main and set for existing slides. Micro adjust if necessary. DG
  16. What would be the effect those without wide Gamut monitors? DG
  17. Does that mean that you are in agreement? Is it sRGB for PTE? You should emphasise to your members that they can continue to work in whatever colour space turns them on as long as the LAST thing that they do before saving as a JPEG is convert to sRGB. I have an ACTION which is dedicated to a hot key and what it does is flatten the image, convert from 16 Bit to 8 Bit and convert to sRGB with just one press of a function button. It occured to me that you might be able to "reverse engineer" the problem and when a suitable opportunity arises choose an image (sRGB of course) which EVERYONE agrees looks good when projected in a PTE show on your club's system. With the permission of the owner of the image you could give that image to all members to try on their systems at home. Having all agreed that it looks OK on the club's projector they could hardly complain if it looks less good on their "calibrated" system at home. Or could they? DG
  18. Many thanks!! DG
  19. In an attempt to answer someone's question about EDIT PICTURE and CTRL+W I tried it out on my own computer(s). No matter what I set the association to in CONTROL PANEL, my PTE will always open a JPEG up in CS4. I've tried rebooting after changing the association and the same thing happens. The association for JPEGs in Windows Explorer changes to the new setting but in PTE it remains the same (CS4). The PTE 6.5 USER's GUIDE suggests: "When clicking Edit Picture you will see the window where you can choose the graphic software to edit image. Do it once and then after clicking this option the program with the chosen image will open automatically" To me, this means that the FIRST time you click on EDIT PICTURE or hit CTRL+W you will be offered the choice of programme. Thereafter you are not offered the choice but the JPEG is opened in whatever software you chose automatically. However, the USER's GUIDE does not indicate a method of changing the choice that you made originally. A method put forward by a member here involves opening a file in NOTEPAD to change the setting. Can anyone else change the default software for "Edit Picture" in PTE without resorting to "re-programming" in notepad? DG
  20. Thanks Tom, Glad to hear that it worked out for you. Like you, I have "surplus" drives that can easily be connected to the TV via USB and the advantage is the amount that you can permanently store on the HD. The advantage of the USB Memory Key is that, although you don't get as much storage space, you don't need as much physical space around the TV and you don't need the extra power supply and USB cable for the HD. Thanks for the info on the laptop. That rules out the theory that it was to do with shared or dedicated graphics! It must be down to individual manufacturer's ways of doing things. The Sony Laptop will automatically sense the HDMI and reconfigure the sound to suit when connecting and disconnecting. Thanks again, DG
  21. Tom, You didn't come back with an answer to whether your graphics (in your laptop) is dedicated or shared? I would be interested in a full update on where you now stand on the range of topics discussed here in this thread? DG
  22. A big yes from me - it makes more sense, if you use more than two keyframes per object, for them to be already separated. If you only use two keyframes you would not see a difference anyway. DG P.S. I agree with Peter re "radio buttons" (in Setting Up): http://www.picturest...indpost&p=82845
  23. If you have a majority of slides which are of equal duration and a small number which deviate from that duration you can temporarily move the non-standard slides to the end of the show in the "Full Screen View of Slide List". You can then select and arrange the non-standard slides in the timeline so that they line up with the end of the music. You can then select all of the standard length slides in the timeline and "Arrange Selected Points". Now move the non-standard slides back to their original positions in the "Full Screen View of Slide List". No need for mathematics. DG
  24. An RGB image viewed in PS when PS is setup up for RGB will look right. The same image viewed in PTE which is an sRGB application will not look right - it will look different. This is easily demonstrated with an RGB image and the same image converted to sRGB side by side in PTE. Blue skies are a dead giveaway. DG
  25. You still haven't indicated the size/resolution of individual images? What are your settings in Project Options > Screen? Images MUST be sRGB for PTE - have you asked your members to do this? DG
