  1. Hi Tom, "Also some of us use alternate operating systems like Linux and h.264 allows us to view the slideshows in HD" For NON-LINUX users - can you explain this? DG
  2. Why MP4? If you are playing from your computer the EXE file is better quality. Regarding 1920x1080 monitor and graphics card - make sure that both are HDMI equipped. Why Quick Time? EXE is better quality. Regarding projection the only option for true HD is 1920x1080. DG
  3. Hi Jim, I copy that behaviour in v6 b24. Until it is fixed I would copy everything between slide x and slide y and, after pasting, delete the ones you don't want in the second project - but you already knew that. DG
  4. This happened in a previous version/beta and was corrected by Igor. Looks like he needs to do the same thing again. DG
  5. This is an excellent suggestion - but should not apply to children in Parent / child arrangements. DG
  6. Peter, Each time I open PTE Forum I am recognized and my watched topics appear as expected. What happens in the case of someone who logs out and has to log back in on the next visit? Could it be something like that? DG
  7. A friend has also had a series of failures before upgrading from 1Gb of RAM to 3Gb of RAM on a VISTA machine. Now the DVDs are rolling off the machine nicely! DG
  8. Hi Barry, I promise to inform you the moment that it lets us down in any way. DG
  9. Barry, The middle of the range here: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1730676890.1255425781@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfiadeiigeflifcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=ProductList&category_oid=-27749&show_all=true#SONY:(any):(any):(any):(any):300:2850:PageNo_0:SortOrder_DOWN would possibly give you what you want - you would need to try it to see if it comes up to your demanding requirements. You are correct that a specification like that seen in any of these models would be cheaper in a tower, but what you are paying for is the portability etc which you say that you can cope with in a tower. I wouldn't dream of trying to take my desktop out on the road but a purpose built tower with portability in mind - that's different. Your choice. My Sony Vaio is extremely quiet and, if I were using it for the same purpose as you, it would be much more of a stripped down model (software-wise) and would not have the obligatory anti-this, anti-that necessary in a machine connected to and used on the internet. Where I would agree with you is that I use my laptop mainly for Internet and e-mail use, keeping my main machine completely clear of the Internet and thus faster. Once again, different brands suit different people - I happen to like Sony. You are also correct in what you say about batteries, but you wouldn't use a tower on a battery power - why use a laptop on a battery (for the sort of demos you do)? I have noticed that using most laptops on battery can mean a drop in speed, especially with a USB drive connected. It's another consideration. All of this is IMHO etc - I'll go my way - you go yours . DG
  10. Hi Igor, Thanks for the explanation. However, I think that the behaviour of the font list is, pehaps, not quite right? If I highlight the font name and scroll down and then hit ENTER the font changes on screen. BUT, if the font chosen is not what I want, the next time I scroll down, the font list begins again at the TOP of the font list. A more logical way would be to scroll down, hit enter and, if the font is not suitable, carry on scrolling from the last chosen font? DG
  11. Gary, Could you post your screen res and the res of the image you are splitting? Your image width must be divisible by 9 in whole number divisions? DG
  12. I used the same method as Peter described to show 200+ images with (and without) names etc. It is then easy to copy the "text frame" from one image to the next complete with its fade in fade out keyframes and alter the text to suit. DG
  13. It was this thread: http://www.picturest...180entry59055 The topic was the "Original Size/Mode" of an image. DG
  14. Barry, As much thought needs to be put into the purchase of the laptop as the purchase of the projector. This is not always possible, but we matched our 1920x1080 Epson projector with a (high end) Sony 1920x1080 Laptop. I have tried some pretty demanding PTE 1920x1080 shows on the combination with no adverse animation problems and viewing from 10M away on a 3M (WIDE) screen is a good viewing experience. DG
  15. JPD first highlighted this problem when Igor abandoned "actual pixels" mode. Ken could probably point you in the direction of the (lengthy) discussion. DG
  16. Hi Igor, In V5.6.4 it is possible, in O&A, to add TEXT and in the FONT box highlight the text font and scroll up/down using the up/down arrows to see the FONT change in real time. In v6 Beta 20 this has been altered to give "SAMPLES" of text fonts in a drop-down menu which is an inferior method of previewing fonts. Is the ommission of the FONT PREVIEW in real time a bug or is it your intention to continue with the inferior drop-down box method? DG
  17. Adjust the timings of each so that they fade in/fade out at the same time as slide 79. OR, in AUDACITY/AUDITION blend the two files together into one with the cross fade in the right place/time. DG P.S. You need to add the audio files in Project Options / Music - that way only one is playing at any one time.
  18. Two countries separated by a common language (sic). You're not getting it and you won't give in so I'll pull out. DG
  19. 2'8" - 4'8" - Same thing - minor riot. These guys look at each pixel INDIVIDUALLY! DG
  20. It shows that you are thinking - well done! DG
  21. Barry, I agree - it works in 5.6.4 (XP and Vista) but does not work in PTE 6_20. DG
  22. I think that it might be better to ditch the "transportation" side of the discussion - it's not an issue. I come back to a point I made earlier. 100 people, comfortably seated, in a medium sized hall at 7.30 - 10pm (with the lights out) on an evening between Sept and May (we don't meet in the summer) are more like to have a better viewing experience with an 8-10 foot WIDE projection screen than with a 4 foot 8 inch (DIAGONAL?) TV monitor of any description. Please bear in mind that the "people at the back" are going to be up to 30 feet from the screen. If the TV screen option were offered to these 100 people, it wouldn't be a "debate"; there would be a small riot! DG
  23. Bill, If it is any consolation (it could be coincidence) I am also unable to play a MAC presentation on my grandson's MAC BOOK PRO. It is low priority for me and, thinking that it might be something that I have done wrong, I haven't pursued it. Is it perhaps a common denominator? DG
  24. Ken is probably on the right track. iTunes uses Apple Audio Codec (AAC) proprietary files and if your library has been converted to AAC, PTE will not recognize them. MP3 files can be used on an iPod but iTunes probably defaults to AAC. DG
  25. NX2.2 will batch all functions. As well as renaming (not advisable unless you include the original name in the new name) the standard batch process screen offers a straight batch to TIF (8 bit or 16 bit) or JPEG. It will also allow you to apply a SETTINGS FILE (Adjustment). This also allows for batching NEF files to a given WB or Exposure Compensation etc. To resize, create a SIZE/RESOLUTION edit step from the EDIT menu on a sample image. Save the EDIT STEP as an adjustment and then apply in the batch process. You could, for instance, change WB, Exposure Compensation, apply a curve, apply noise reduction, convert to B+W, resize, change resolution and many other things - all in one batch process. DG
