Could anyone help: Here's the scenario - Laptop with resolution set to 1024x768 - Projector with maximum resolution of 1400x1050. When projected, the laptop screen is projected at the full height of the screen. Where is the interpolation taking place - graphics card or projector?

Thanks Gilio, I think I understand and this will help in the near future when we are trying out new projectors in 1400x1050 and 1920x1080 formats. I will report back in a seperate thread. DaveG

Gilio, Many thanks - I am interested because this is relevent to something that I am working on right now. How can you project your 1400x1050 show from your 1280 laptop? Is your show "Fit to screen" or in a 1400x1050 Window? Does your 1400x1050 show project in part of the screen of fill the screen? Do you not need a laptop which is equal to or greater than 1400x1050 resolution to avoid interpolation of the show and therefore degredation? Best wishes, DaveG

Gilio, I liked the show - great! However text is cut off on right hand side - Music by:John Lome......... seems to be cut off (or is that it?). This happens on both 1280x1024 and 1024x768 monitors. If you have a 1400x1050 monitor (or are assembling to suit a 1400x1050 projector) then that could be the reason? DaveG

How about a New Year resolution for everyone here namely not to copy and paste everything that someone has written, before giving your answer/opinion. Some of the posts on the forum consist of 30% information and 70% quotation, and perhaps it's my grumpy old man side but I find it's turns reading otherwise interesting threads into a very tedious business. I looked back at the previous problem (Beta 10 or 11) and found that, at that time, the start-up window was larger than monitor size making it impossible to click on buttons which were off-screen. Igor recognized a problem and said he had corrected it. However, I don't use Start-up Window and did not realise that it has been the way it is now since Igor "corrected" it. Having spoken with some people who DO use it the concensus is that it would be nice if it did fill the screen. Sorry about the confusion. DaveG

This problem occured once before in PTE ver 5 Beta 10 or 11. Igor fixed it for me at that time but it looks as though it has crept back in again. Igor, if you are reading these I can give you the exact date if required? DaveG

Thanks Igor, I had already discovered that using "fit to slide" or "cover slide" is better when making DVD. DaveG

I believe that I have found a bug in PTE 5 / Videobuilder. In a “Window Mode” show 1024x768 I inserted an image which was 768 pixels high “panoramic” format to perform a PAN effect. When such an image is viewed in “Objects and Animation” it is initially “Fit to Slide” and is shown with a black line at the top and bottom of the image. In order to perform the pan I converted the “MODE” to “ORIGINAL” and the image then fitted the height of the window. Keyframes were added to perform the PAN effect. So far so good!! The PREVIEW and the EXE file created from this setup performed as expected – a pan from left to right filling the window according to the settings of the Keyframes. However, when an ISO file is created from this show the panoramic panned slide is shown as if it were still “Fit to Slide” i.e. with a black line top and bottom and a black line to the right at the beginning of the pan and black to the left at the end of the pan. The ISO file and the DVD made from it IGNORE the “ORIGINAL” mode command. I have noticed this happen on a previous occasion so it is not just this show. I got around the problem by leaving the MODE set to “Fit to Slide” and adjusting its height using the grab handles. It seems that when using the ORIGINAL mode unexpected results can occur when the show is converted to a DVD. DaveG

Thanks Al, I thought you were refering to some method of "automatically" returning to slide 1 WITHOUT the mouse click. It could also be done, I suppose, by putting an "invisible" button in, for instance the bottom right corner of each slide thus doing away with the need for the black slide. DaveG

Hi John, Yes, Actual Pixels = Original If your Project Screen Size is 1024x768 (to suit your projector) and your image is no more than 1024 wide or 768 high then “fit to slide” is the same thing as “original”. If your Project Screen Size is 1024x768 (to suit your projector) and your image is exactly 1024x768 then: Fit to slide = Original = Cover Slide DaveG

Hi Ian, Thanks for the replies. I don't think that "fit to screen" is a problem with "oversized" entries, however if an entry is undersized fitting to screen can produce a pixilated result. On the one occasion when we were faced with this problem we used actual pixels and displayed the image on part of the 1024x768 screen. I will probably be seeing you in the near future in this neck of the woods and will introduce myself. DaveG

Ian, Could I ask what the "arrangements" are regarding resolution of submissions and also the resolution of your projector there? DaveG

Stonemason, With regard to re-sizing, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink? All members are fully conversant with Photoshop Techniques but most are Printers and not Digital workers. It might take a while to get the concept fully home. DaveG

Stonemason, The judge is given a prepared PTE show 2 weeks in advance of the competition date along with the actual 1024x768 images for individual viewing in Photoshop etc. (I don’t necessarily agree with giving judges the individual pics but that’s the way it is done). At present, we are restricted to 1024x768 by the size of the projector in use but this will change in future. It is a MANUAL show and is advanced by an operator on the competition night. It is also possible to open PTE and run the whole thing in PREVIEW mode. If you have a situation where images are eliminated or you want to show highest scoring images etc it only takes a moment (or a tea/coffee break) to put the required images into a new show and run once again in preview. An alternative to a NEW show would be to remove the images not required and re-arrange the order (if required) using the “Fullscreen View of Slidelist”. The only problematic images are those which are less than 1024 wide or less than 768 high because PTE defaults to “Fit to Screen” and therefore interpolates images upwards. If we were able to GLOBALLY set “Actual Pixels” it would make life MUCH easier. DaveG
