  1. Hi Andrew, I guess I'm being picky or showing my ignorance but...... a link to your uploaded show early in this thread would be appreciated. I now must go and try to find the show you have gotten me interested in watching!
  2. http://www.epetersons.com/slideshows/Sandh...%20Nebraska.zip Hi Dave, I just watched your nice slide show of Nebraska. You ask for comments so here goes... So you know "where I'm coming from" I also have a motorcycle. While we haven't taken any over night road trips we have taken the motorcycle on several trips in the back of our truck. We tow a camper and haul our motorcycle. IE- we have a common bond in the 2 wheeler. My first impression was also that the music was a tad low key but as the show progressed, it kind of grew on me. I guess the music changed my mood to more mellow and then it worked. At first I found reading the entire historic signs a bit tedious but I have done the exact same thing. If you are taking pictures to document a trip and making a slide show for a keepsake memory, then you should leave time to read the sineage! All in all, I liked it. Of course I liked the scenery and I always like to see at least a few shots of the participants. If you are going to take us on your trip, then we want to see who we're going with and "where we stayed" while traveling. I especially liked the map of your route at the end. Will you tell me how you created that slide??? Is it from mapping software you have purchased or did you use some type of online mapping website? I'd really like to learn how to include maps in some of my vacation slide shows. Can maps be included without requiring me to purchase more software?? Thanks for sharing a nice vacaton and for your tips on map making. Peace! Dan D. Louisville Kentucky, good ole USA http://ky-dan.com
  3. I believe it is a check box in PTE when you are setting up your slide show. It shows a box within the normal view box that approximates what will show when you put your show on TV. I can tell you that things you want to see-- like the top of someone's head- need to be inside that smaller area or they will be cropped off in the DVD. If you can't find it, come back here and someone will show you a screen shot or something, I'm sure. Good luck!! Dan D. Louisville, Kentucky USA
  4. That was me! I came here looking for ideas and answers. I found them!!!! Now I will use extra effort to make comments when I view another persons show.
  5. This is very important! Did you do this?
  6. What happens if you post your slide show and specifically ASK for critique and comments right along with the slide show link?? I have -wrongly- assumed that shows that weren't asking for comment didn't want it?? Peace! Dan D.
  7. Hello Lumen! I enjoyed your Indian Summer show very much! My wife and I are avid day hikers and it was fun to watch your nice slide presentation. It really me want to go there some day. Well done. Not too fancy which I liked. Some shows don't need all the special effects, especially when they have spectacular scenery like that. Now some questions-- the colors are very vibrant- did you enhance them or are they right out of the camera? Where is Circle All Peak? Name that tune! What song was playing? A final screen giving this information would be much appreciated but feel free to answer here if you wish. Thanks! Dan D. Louisville, Kentucky good ole USA
  8. In my case, my lack of comments is often lack of time. Or is it my priorities?? We do tend to make time for the things that are most important to us. To view a show I must follow a link to another website. Download a zipped file. Unzip the file. Check the resulting exe file for virus. Have time to run the file to watch and enjoy the show. Decide whether to delete or save the file. Come back to this forum and make a comment or ask a question..... This is several steps. I am new to this even though I made my first show a couple of years ago. Since I am new, I feel un-........... un-worthy of criticism or critique. All I can say is "I liked your show" or say nothing out of politeness if I didn't care for it. Maybe I didn't care for your show simply because I prefer country scenery and your show was city life?? There are some cultural differences between our countries and what appeals to you might not be my cup of tea. And I am active member/moderator of 3 other forums! We hike. We trailer camp. We garden. My shows are purely to archive our photos for family viewing. I didn't realize that all shows were expected to solicit comments!! Your shows may be for wide audience appeal. There is much diversity here BUT I will keep your message in mind and when I do take time to download unzip and view a show I will make an effort to leave a comment! It is a small price to pay for the trouble of putting the show together.
  9. Very nice! Now for us dummies/er I mean "smarties", did you create the text slide in a program such as photoshop? Where did you get the nice boarder? I assume you then saved the result as a JPG. Any particular resolution or just full screen? The flicker and shake were very nice. Did you do that by hand on the time line?? Thanks! Dan D. Louisville, Kentucky good ole USA
  10. Yes, you are right. In fact I have 5 or 6 under my belt and I'm fairly happy with them. One is over 10 minutes long with music and many slides have titles. It is made of shots of a "trip of a lifetime" in the Western US. I'm proud of it but it is 90 Meg in size so it is not very portable as far as sending via e-mail even with todays high speed at home internet connections. It plays wonderfully on most computers. The VCD seems to shimmer on some shots but not too bad. Also, many/most folks now have a DVD player on their Television sets so burning a slide show into DVD is more universally playable than even 3 years ago. That brings the question about JPG file size for a DVD show. I started my computing days with an 8086 processor with 64k of memory! I bought my first extra hard drive then. It was a whopping 20 meg and cost $300. I was on dial up internet for many, many years so I have been painfully aware of file size for a long time. Now days we have a gig of memory and twin 80 gig hard drives and wonder if that is enough! I will be taking my important/keepsake/vacation pictures in high resolution from now on. I am looking forward to applying some of those nice zoom, pan effects to my next project. This will be all the easier with Lyn's neat tutorials for "smarties". Thanks to you all! Dan D. 11. Thanks very much Ken and Peter! As is often the case, a simple sounding question needs a complicated answer. The website Peter gave is very interesting and I will study it in depth. Also, for some reason the website Peter gave would not display correctly using MSIE browser. It insisted on chopping off the right hand word on each line. I tried increasing my monitor resolution but that simply made the lines longer with more words and the last one on each line was still chopped off. It displays perfectly using Mozilla Firefox. Computers can be such a pain but don't we love to tinker with them! Guess I'll need to experiment with my JPG file sizes and see what works for me. I have just today upgraded to the deluxe version and I felt good about spending the money due mainly to the wonderful comraderie and support found right here in these forums. My hat is off to you all. Peace! Dan D. Louisville, Kentucky, good ole USA
  12. Please forgive me as I know this must have been covered before but a search did not find what I want to know..... What is a good or recommended file size for JPG files to include in a P2E presentation?? Are different jpg files sizes recommended depending on if I'm going to make an EXE file for computer screen viewing vs making a file to burn to DVD for viewing on large screen LCD TV. If I'm going to make an EXE file, I might want finished version to be only a few MEGs so I could e-mail it to friends. If I'm going to burn a DVD should I then use much larger picture files to get good quality DVD for TV viewing?? Thanks! Dan D. from soggy Louisville Kentucky, USA
  13. I enjoyed the show very much!! Thanks for sharing. I do have one comment..... the single photo of the fire stuck in the middle troubled me. I found it shocking and out of place. Here I was getting all misty eyed and relaxed from the beautiful, peaceful scenes and suddenly there was a fire. It was rather like hiking in the woods on a beautiful day and rounding a bend to discover a dead animal laying in the path. Just my 2ยข Peace! KyDan
  14. ??? Thanks for the warning but I un-installed NAV a couple of months ago while I was still plugged into my DSL line. I used the NAV un-install file that came with the install. I have not been nagged since. I will follow your advice to clean up extra files and folders if they are still there. I'm using zone alarm firewall and av. I'm happy so far and they have a user support chat board much like this one! Peace! KyDan
  15. Lin, your help and expertise is much appreciated and applauded!! I suggest moving this post to the Tutorial forum AND put a pin in it so it stays at the top, at least for a while!! Peace! KyDan
  16. Lin, thanks SO much from another beginner! I have downloaded and watched your avi and it is great! So nice to "see it done" rather than reading how to do it. I suggest your post and link should be made "sticky" and kept at the top for us beginners. Thanks again for taking the time!! Peace! KyDan Louisville, Kentucky home of the Louisville Slugger bat!
  17. I watched a slide show today that had stills and at one point it had clouds moving across the sky. I thought it was video and stills combined. Sure wish I could do that! I have a bunch of Hawaii photos I'm going to make a slide show with and some video of flowing lava and some water falls. Wish I could get the video on with the slides! Thanks for the reply! KyDan
  18. Greetings, can PTE deluxe be used to create a DVD that is made of still photos AND digital video like I get from my Sony Handycam??? Will the non deluxe Ver 4.49 do that? Thanks in advance! Peace! KyDan Louisville, KY USA Home of the Louisville Slugger bat!
  19. Nathan, have you considered using Firefox free browser?? It is reported to have a bit better security than IE and is less often attacked by hackers than Microsoft based browsers. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ I currently use IE at work because I have no choice but use Firefox at home. Peace! KyDan
  20. There is much talk about the new delux version and I am envious of those who have it but I cannot afford one just yet.... I have PTE 4.45 and wonder if that is the newest version available? If not can you post a link to the free upgrade for those of us who own the plain version? Thanks! Dan D. Louisville, KY good ole USA
  21. I'll try again. I know my data should fit. The disk is not physically full it is just "closed" by the burn process. My exe file is 30 megs and my total run time for the slide show is only a tad over 9 minutes. I have Nero burning ROM v6. I will go home and explore the programs folder for Nero and see if other add on's are in there.... The sun is shining brite on my ole Kentucky home so I'll likely wait until tomorrow when more rain is predicted. In the mean time, my ball cap is off to both of you. Peace!! Dan D. 22. Al or anyone listening..... I've been re-reading the threads on this subject. Al said-> Once the DVD has been "burned", then you can copy other files onto it using your DVD disk drive. However, the "autorun" feature might cause problems as it might conflict with the autorun capability inherent in the video files on the DVD. Also, as Ken says, the DVD would only be viewable in a DVD player (for the video files), and/or a DVD drive on a pc (for the PTE files). If I am reading this correctly, you are saying to create a normal DVD video of my show. Actually burn the disk. Even watch the disk on my TV DVD player. Then add the exe and ini file to this already completed DVD disk??? Seems like I tried that back a few days..... once I'd burned the DVD show my computer says that disk is full and I cannot add any more. Maybe I'm wrong about that, I will try again.
  23. So you are saying I'm not burning a DVD. I am creating a "data disk" on a DVD blank. When I open Nero I don't click "create DVD" but rather I choose some other option ( the program is at home, I'm at work....) that will let me burn data files onto the DVD blank? And the video_ts folder is created how? with which program. (I'm not file ignorant. I've been copying moving renaming and manipulating files since the days of DOS 2.1) I'm just ignorant about these @#$%^! video files.... Thanks for your patience! Dan D.
  24. Argh!! I still can't do this..... I tried Nero v6 yesterday. ANY time I try to burn either VCD or DVD and include the exe & ini file the program promptly responds that those files aren't video files and refuses to include them. I can burn VCD and DVD all day but cannot figure out how to include the exe and/or autostart.ini file. Any clues what I am missing?
  25. Ken, my son came over last night and informed me I already have Nero 6 on my PC!! How embarrassing.... Can't wait to get home this afternoon and waste some more disks Of course if I fail in all attempts I will burn multiple copies of DVD and separate CDs containing the exe version. I've been reading the suggested threads "again" and sure would like to get them all on one disk eventually, either VCD or DVD. If I weren't doing this I'd just be mowing the lawn or some other gainful endeavor....
