  1. I've tried in vain all weekend to get this to work. No go. I'm going to aquire Nero 6 and try it that way. At this point I'll gladly settle for either a DVD or VCD with my video and EXE file on there. At least I know how to make DVD or SVCD or VCD as I've created plenty of them in my experiments. Thanks for the heads up on the SVCD. I'm just trying to make one disk that will be the most playable for my friends. I imagine most of them have DVD players and computers. I know the EXE file gives best quality if only one or 2 want to watch. If you have a room full of old friends they will more easily fit in front of the TV. This is why I'm trying so hard to make a disk work both ways. As always it's wonderful to have helpful folks to ask questions of! Peace!! Dan D. Louisville KY
  2. I know this has been covered-- believe me I've read and tried to understand the provided links. I have specific questions I think. For reasons unknown to me my @#$% home DVD player won't play DVDs that I make on my computer. They play wonderfully at my son's house. I made an SVCD of the same presentation and it DOES play at my home!! Now I've upped the ante so to speak. I have created a presentation of some old friends past parties and get togethers. Some of them are no longer with us I would like to create 1 CD (or many copies of this one) that contains SVCD presentation EXE file auto run file this way hopefully they will have the option to watch their disk on computer or TV. Here -at last- is my question. Right this moment on my PC I have Ulead DVD MovieFactory Studio Suite Deluxe Nero Express. Will I be able to burn my SVCD using what I have now? It seems to me that U-lead won't let me drag in the other 2 files. (auto run and EXE) I don't know if Nero Express will either but Nero Express says it won't burn SVCD without an add on (upgrade) unless it's mpeg-2 format. Can I use P2E to create a MPEG-2 file?? If I need Nero burning ROM to do this, which version (how new) must I have. Thanks for any info you can give me.
  3. Lin, thanks for helping us newbies! Good luck. KyDan in Kentucky USA
  4. That's great-- Thank you!!! I tried highlighting the desired slide along the bottom and then clicking the preview button but of course, that did not work! This will save me a lot of time! Peace! Dan D. Louisville, Kentucky USA
  5. Sorry if it's been covered..... I searched but didn't find it. Can I start a preview in the middle or anywhere but the beginning? Often when I'm building a slide show I want to go back and see how it's working but I must start at the beginning each time. Is there a way to jump to the middle or fast forward through part of a preview? Thanks! Dan D. Kentucky, USA
  6. Pardon me if you already know this but.... TV resolution is 400 lines while a computer monitor is typically 800 or even 1040 lines of resolution. This will give you sharper images on a computer than is possible on a TV. I guess you've tried P2E with the sharpness filter ON when creating video? Other than that, I can't offer any other suggestions. Good luck! Dan D. Louisville KY USA
  7. I realize you need it to run on your laptop so this may not help but..... I recently burned a DVD on an eraseable disk using Ulead. It played successfully on my TV DVD player. I thought "great" now that I know it works I will burn another copy onto a non eraseable disk for keeping. The 2nd copy on a non eraseable disk won't play on my TV DVD player. For some reason that player has always been finicky about home made DVDs. I took the 2nd copy to my son's house and it played perfectly on his TV DVD player. This is only a suggestion to buy some eraseable DVD disks so you aren't waisting the ones that don't work AND try your DVD in another laptop. It just might work there. Good luck! Dan D. 8. Ron, is that still true? Here in the USA I can get 100 blank CD disks for around $12 on sale and 50 blank DVD disks are also around $12. So we are talking about 50ยข for a DVD. That is not so bad I think. Dan D. Louisville, KY good ole USA
  9. OK Ken, I won't persist any further on this thread but you have not answered my question! My camera creates jpg files. I drag and drop them into my hard drive and eventually point PTE to that directory. At no time am I asked "what % do I want to use". If I edit them with a photo editor I can change their size but why not just take the photographs of the correct size to begin with? I simply asked what file size will render a good DVD? Or what photo size I should set my camera in order to get good DVD results. This thread above mentions file size and resulting flicker on the DVD. That's what got me started on this topic.
  10. Al, I don't mean to sound -dense- but 50% of what? What I'm wondering is where should I set my camera? It's capable of 4 megapixel but I know I can get pictures that look fine on a PC screen using a setting on the camera that's only going to generate 200k size jpgs. My latest batch of vacation pictures were each about 700k. Is that large enough to get good DVD results? Or should I set my camera for even higher resolution? (in case no one has said so lately, your PTE101 tutoral is GREAT!) Thanks! Dan D.
  11. Al or anyone can you suggest a minimal jpg file size for good presentation on DVD? Thanks!
  12. Jason, thanks for the tip! I am a newbie who just "produced" my first slide show. It looked great on my computer monitor as an exe file and like you, when I burned a DVD, I also checked that box as suggested. When I watched the resulting DVD on a 27" TV I was disappointed in the quality as well. I will try it again without interlacing the photos. Thanks for this post! Dan D. Louisville Kentucky USA
  13. I enjoyed your "fun" show very much! Thank you for sharing your talents and great photos. Peace! Dan D. Louisville Kentucky, good old USA
