Southeastern Utah and Capital Reef National Park

I feel the same way about wishing I could talk to the walls. It would be so much fun to be able to appear a hundred years earlier, just for a day or two to see the folks in their prime and also their homes in full glory. I'm sure it was hard work but satisfying at the end of the day. I've done the southern Utah and northern Arizona route a few times so I have had lots of adventures with Mormons. Hanksville is one of my favorite towns. Odd characters all around, but fun. There is a small motel there with a very cranky woman running it. She has a graveyard of dogs you have to pass by to register. She hates dogs, obviously. In 1997 I gave a tour to my parents and in-laws. We drove up to the place as I knew it was clean and quiet just from looking at it. I walked in to get two rooms for the folks and this gal had already seen my dog, Buck, with his enormous head sticking out of the car. She looked like she was going to shoot me and Buck. "Didn't you see the graveyard", she grumbled? I just laughed and told her I saw the graveyard and get the point. I told her I have a graveyard next to my place filled with cranky old ladies. I had to do a lot of apologizing explaining my humor and that her humor didn't bother me. Plus renting two rooms calmed her down. I wouldn't let Buck out of the car near that place. When we went across on the ferry it only had us and another car. I couldn't believe they were running. Big fun though. My pal Utah Slim shared most of his experiences up in that area. He lived a few years in Sugarville. He was Jehovah Witness and said he got along with the Jack Mormons. I am not an organized religion man, but I'm not Atheist either. I just don't like big groups with lots of rules. I will get to Arizona soon I hope. I have been in and out of hospitals and doctor offices all summer and I still have a bunch of appointments. Luckily I still feel pretty good so I would love to get together sometime. I have a small double wide trailer in Dolan Springs, AZ. Maybe we could meet and have a little adventure from there...or we could meet on the trail...I'm game as I can camp in any weather. Always good to hear from you, Lin. Sounds like we have quite a bit in common. All the best to you, Jeff -
I put together a show in two parts from 2011. Now downloadable at: http://www.slideshowclub.com/files/file/241-southeastern-utah-and-capital-reef-np-part-1-of-2/ http://www.slideshowclub.com/files/file/243-utah-2011-part-2/ Karen and I had a real good time on this trip. I hope you will enjoy our adventure as well. Jeff

Terrific show. My cup of tea for sure. Not the usual "Look what I can do with a camera" kind of show, but a heartfelt bit of history. And the music rendition was perfect...not a showboat singer showcase, but a kind tune for a long ago bit of history. On a different note, hanging was an awful way to put somebody down. It can take over 20 minutes for a healthy guy to stop kicking...when pulled up from the ground like we see in the picture. Many a bad guy begged for the lynch mob to drop him over a bridge or build a gallows to snap his neck once he knew he was in for it. Of course that can go south too. I read one fella's last words were "Let er rip"...and they did just that but the drop managed to pull his head off. Great images to go with the song. Nicely done. Jeff

Amazed at how much work you put in and in such a short time. i need forever to get things put together. Hats off! It is always tough to put everyone into a short show, but with the quick spurts between shots and the depth of field it stayed fresh. By the way, I used Chrome and Firefox and had no problem with viewing your show. Jeff

When asked which of his musical compositions was his favorite, one of my favorite music composers for film, Basil Poledouris, replied, "The last one I composed". He said it was like having a baby and he had brought it into life. I feel similar when making a show. I guess we all have our hearts tied to our works and having them judged can be rough...but I have found this forum to be about as gentle as you will ever find on the internet. People here are much more likely to act as if you and they are in the same room...not hiding behind their computers. Even with that I find it difficult to post shows that show a very personal side of me. I have several I have never posted because I know I won't be able to be silent if judged harshly. I always have a long gestation period before I post just to make sure I truly want to share. You can be sure that if I am making a comment it is because I actually enjoy the show and just think a tweak here and there might make it better, but it is just one man's view. Shows that I don't get or I think are quite awful I would never comment on. It is the good ones that are fun to talk about. By the way....back about 7 years ago I posted a preview of a show that I was going to post in-full later. One of the comments was by The Dom. He made some suggestions about the music. My first reaction was I was quite hurt. I know music real well. It took a few days for me to think clearly as his comment needed to gestate in my mind. I reworked the preview taking The Dom's remarks to task which became the opening for my longest show...over 14 minutes. It became the most popular show I ever posted. I am going to re-post it soon as perhaps there are a few new people here who might enjoy it. Anyway, this is a fun forum and rarely do I see posts that are purposefully hurtful. And I personally only comment on shows that I like. And if I post and let people know on this forum about a show I always hope for a comment of some sort. Whenever I draw a blank I know the show wasn't too good or I missed on the subject matter. Alrighty... I am writing yet another saga. Keep posting gentlemen. Jeff

Agreed. Comments are just that.

No need to apologize Barry. I certainly understand the artistic point of a multimedia show having an artist for a wife and having spent my career as a musician. For me the music is the most import thing as that is my passion, so I don't need the spacebar enabled as I never use it. I merely thought the flow got faster near the end and for me it didn't make sense as the music didn't speed up. I had wondered if Snapcam had tried to fit images into a time slot and that is why things got quick, in my opinion, not a knock on the show. Anyway it is merely a point of view and I assumed that is why people post in the forum. I will be careful with comments in the future. Jeff

My parents visited Ireland many years ago. My mother said I would like the topography. I see by your photos that she was correct. I do feel the images pass too quickly. I think you enjoy the slow dissolve, and it goes with the melancholy of the music, but I feel the images are in transition more than they are displayed, putting more emphasis on the effect rather than the image. Probably just me, but regardless, very beautiful images. Jeff

Amazing how simple something can be when you know. That is what my wife always says. Her father was a home builder. He knew every tool and how to use it. When she would try to help him and goof up, he would call her "Dummy". What a guy. Anyway, thanks Tom, for the help. It truly is simple when you know. Jeff

Hi Snapcam...Yes, I do believe you are correct. I shot some video at the end but the focus wasn't great. The jarring part was my idea of staying with the soundtrack. I will see if the video I shot will work with the show and give it a try. Your comments are well received...don't worry. My skin isn't that thin...and thanks for taking the time to watch the show and comment on it. Thank you very much. Jeff

New Show...Inscription Rock Adventure

Hey Tom...you are correct in thinking ABQ is too dry. If you need to be near water this isn't the place. Sunshine, good weather, and great Mexican food is what this area is all about. I still love the food after 40 years in the area. And the best thing of all is...you can sit outside without mosquitoes eating with you. No biting flies either. That is why there are no screened in porches here. And it is why I don't need a tent most of the time here in the southwest...no bugs and few rainy days. A school chum of mine lives in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Marquette is a college town right on Lake Superior. Not sure about the taxes, but it seems like a great place to live if you like water and a town that isn't too big. Anyway, when you mentioned water I automatically thought of good old Michigan. Whatever you choose...personally I've been to Oregon and the coastline from Vancouver Island all the way down to San Diego and into Mexico and think the coast is a wonderful area. Vancouver Island was terrific for me in my backpacking days. Oh well, I guess I am rambling. Enjoy your retirement wherever you end up. All the best, Jeff -

Thanks Tom...people were very tough in those days. Glad the show was something new for you. I know you mentioned this for Lin, but where might you go for retirement? Jeff -
Hi Tom...I guess I'm the only dummy...import files to where? Not sure what to do with the downloaded files? Thanks for any help. I'm sure I'm not seeing something. Jeff

New Show...Inscription Rock Adventure

Hey Lin... Glad you enjoyed the show. I like it when I post a show and you tell me a terrific story. We make a good team. I looked long and hard at the off road small trailers. I just couldn't afford one...plus most of them look awful heavy and really aren't much more than a tent on wheels...OK...they are better than that, but light they aren't. I had a woman come up to me while I was parked at El Morro and wanting to take a look inside my trailer. I told her to stick her head in and look left and see the bedroom and look right and see the kitchen and that was my tour. It actually had a queen sized bed with lamps and stereo overhead. I sleep on a cot in my Arizona home. Sammy hated the trailer and I would have to force her to come in. She hates the heat so I would let her sleep out most of the time. She spent about a year in bed with me when I was flat on my back with cancer. She was a real joy during that time. She would hop into bed all excited and then lay down with her back to mine and not move at all unless I gave her a hug and then she would get all frisky. . Cimarron eh? I am not sure I have ever been there. When I was young I would head north thinking I would investigate northern NM but as soon as I saw the San Juans or the Sangre De Cristo Mts. I would keep going north. Hope your new digs work out great. Thanks again for sharing a fun story. Jeff -
I took this adventure a few years ago when I was still quite ill. I only had the trailer that is in the show for a year and a half. I like to travel light and as soon as I felt well enough I sold the trailer...I knew if I kept it I would destroy it on the roads I love...and I went back to my usual way of travel...very light...no stove or camp food, just a few power bars and water. As I look at this show I realize I miss that little trailer quite a bit.

Thanks Mick...what a pleasant surprise...to wake up and see what is going on on the Forum. I am now going to take a look at your web site. Thanks for stopping by. Jeff

Hey Lin...i made the mistake of replying on the review page...anyway...I use the Topo USA and enjoy it. I am often not in line with the graphic on the map, but it does give me a pretty good idea of where I am. It really comes in handy when I am on a rough road near American Indian land. I have found it really pays to make sure you don't cross borders unknowingly. Several years ago a pal of mine came out to visit...just after I had recovered enough from cancer to ride in the truck a bit. While we were returning from Durango he decided to get a six-pack of beer. I told him not to open it as we were driving and also going through Indian land. He told me I worry too much....but I got him to cool it. What a nut...in broad daylight he was going to drink while I drove. He just couldn't believe it was a big deal. I don't know what the Indian Police would have done...but I do know New Mexico has nothing but bad memories from drunk drivers and don't take a relaxed attitude with open containers in the car. Four days with a friend who comes to another state and wants to tell you how to live. I guess I'm venting. Thanks for stopping by. Jeff

This adventure took place the second week of April, 2014. My dog Sammy is near the end of the line and I promised her I would take her to be in snow one more time. We live in New Mexico and Arizona...neither one has much snow. While in our shack in Arizona we are just three hundred miles from the High Sierra's in California. I read it had snowed so off we went. Had a terrific time for eight days and one very wonderful moment for me. While in deep woods in the middle of nowhere I crossed an old foot bridge over a small stream. I stopped to enjoy the view and looked down and saw on the railing, 2x4's, that two names had been carved...Ruel+Jan. Ruel is my great grandfather's given name. I've never known anyone with that name in this country, USA. To see it carved into an old bridge where few people go, no trail or road, was very exciting. It was a magical moment I'll always remember. I hope you enjoy the show. Jeff Lunt Oh yes...it is posted on Slideshowclub.com

OK...I just did the same thing I've been doing for a couple days with no success...and everything went like clockwork. Magic...me like. Maybe all is well now. Thank You Jeff

I am having the exact same problem...identical. I have posted before without a hitch and now I get the same thing. I have changed the name of the show, re-zipped it...re-rendered it...to no avail. Since I've had success before I just don't get it. Hope help arrives, or some sort of magic would be nice. Jeff

Not sure if this has been suggested before...but I have found that in the ADD AUDIO box it would be very helpful if there was a way to preview the music before adding it, right from this section of PTE. I have thousands of audio files and forget which piece would make a nice mood for a particular bit. Titles don't cut it when you have thousands of titles. A click on a title and a brief bit of that track playing would be a great way to sift through music pieces. This is included in Cyberlink's Power Director and I find it helpful. I mention this only as a way to check it out, not a selling point.

Just got done watching your show. Great color, shapes, images. Finally enough resolution to do the subject justice. And just about the right amount of effects for me...not too much. It is wise since the content doesn't need the effects at all. My only comment other than fantastic would be...and this is my personal thing, i'm sure many would disagree...is the two shots together...I guess they would be in protrait mode. Personally, and I mean that, I would just love seeing them individually as I have trouble with two images at once...the same as picture in picture. I don't care for that either. But I'm sure I'm in the minority on that point. I think you used it 3 times...so really, I'm being a bore here. And if that is all I can say, well then, job well done. I will search out your other shows promptly. If I had money and liked flying and didn't have skin cancer...and just was a whole different person, I'd get on a plane and head to that wonderful looking local. My wife is a beach person and would thank you. I'll show her your show tonight, and have a margarita in your honor. Best wishes to you and Karen. Jeff

did you try the work around? http://osxdaily.com/...fied-developer/

Hi Lin.... I sure enjoyed this bit. And if this is really your cabin...well...I must not be doing something...anything...right. What a fantastic place. Really liked the digital pics and the eagle. How nice of him or her to fly by on cue. And the fella with the guitar wasn't too bad either. I have been watching a few of your shows recently. I finally got a faster internet connection and can download like mad...and I have had a blast. Enjoyed your Bryce show too. How was that trip for you and your 4 legged pal? What car or truck do you use? More questions will come your way when I view your shows again with Karen. Where in Colorado do you live? OK...I sound like a detective...my dad was a detective after he retired from the FBI so maybe I come by the questions honestly. Hope you are doing well. Me and Sammy loved your Bryce show and I think she was very jealous of your cabin in the high country. She has been letting me know she doesn't like the desert all that much. Your Fan, Jeff Lunt
