Just Emailed my Nephew to open a recent file on my website...Mac....as I don't have a Mac. He said the most recent Mac won't open it. He has an earlier version which works fine. He has a PHD and is in the software field and DNA field. He seems to be up to date on this stuff. The most recent Mac version is Mountain Lion...and they won't open an EXE file from an unknown developer. Any thoughts or info. Jeff Lunt

I personally would like to be able to press the arrow key on the keyboard to go forward to the next image while working on sizing images. Moving the mouse to the top of the page and clicking the arrow to go to the next image is more time consuming.

Dear Lin... I didn't know your wonderful partner died. I remember when you were not posting as she was ill, but I didn't know the end result and didn't feel it was my place to ask. Well all I can say is...I think we are on the same page about...just about everything. Great stuff all around. My kind of show for sure...and one of my favorite soundtracks... That soundtrack is one of the reasons I don't watch the Academy Awards anymore. In 1995 James Horner was up for best original soundtrack for Braveheart and Apollo 13. I thought Braveheart was superior...but it was the first time I saw an award given without an envelope. A women came out and whispered in the ear of the presenter and someone else got the award. I was really angry as I loved that score...and Apollo 13. I know...what does this have to do with my work...well Braveheart worked very well with your show. Glad to see and hear that you have great taste. Two questions...what time of day was it that you got the two or so shots in Bryce that appeared to glow...cliff shots that seemed to radiate from within? Did you give it a little extra, or was it the time of day? Haven't been there in 20 years...it is just far enough away that I get caught up in all the other wonderful scenery that we have close at hand. It is on my short list now...now that time is short. Was that the Navajo Twins...and was one of the Shooters in one shot? Ok...that is more than two questions...and I have one more... Who are the two handsome people in your forum photo? I just read your bio and you took photos before I was born and I am as old as dirt....is that you and are you that well preserved? Great show Lin...I like slow pans and slow movement and slow dissolves. This is multimedia and I think you have the hang of it. I especially liked the last shot and sentiment. I think a bit of info is fine. My shows lately have a bit of dialogue as in the Silent Movie type. I don't do narration often and prefer keeping the music uninterrupted. Some of the location data is within the show. I agree, it gets to be a bit much and I suspect the pixel peepers might not give the show a chance if they see specs that aren't the latest and greatest. I have some old shows shot with my trusty Canon G2 from 2001. The images are still satisfactory for a 1920x1080 HD show. And I will prove it... I will post a show from 2003 shot entirely with the G2. OK...it really isn't a big deal...but I like to think I am moving the earth with my patter. I will post the show on Beechbrook Cottage. I posted it years ago, but in the old days I only left things up for 30 days as I thought that was long enough and Bill was doing me a favor posting anything of mine. Let me get it up...opps...not too gracious there...let me post it right now. I like humor...don't thrash me for the colorful remarks. Jeff Lunt

I think you heard a hurt feeling in my text that actually wasn't meant to be. I took no hurt. I explained my feeling on the subject of size and filling the screen. My question of "what is a proper slideshow" I took from your original text and I wanted to know what this meant...no mean feelings whatsoever. I have read over my text and I think the written word left an open door to applying tone of voice. Truly I meant no hurt at all. I just wanted to explain my point on the size issue and as for the music...I loved it and you didn't ...so what. Let's leave it at that. Best regards to you... Jeff

About the tracks...in some areas of the US it is OK to drive wherever you wish. These places are designated so people who wish to travel over the terrain can do so. I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't just driving wherever I pleased and destroying some perfectly lovely land. Thanks for commenting on the show. I totally disagree with the size format business. I believe the screen can be used multiple ways and I do so. I know the traditional thought on the matter, but I don't go to the art museum and expect all pictures to be in Landscape format. I have had this mentioned before, but I just won't comply on that matter. Music is my profession...but I don't compose music very often. I think I know at what point you are referring to with the transition not matching...but I felt is worked well enough...for my tastes anyway. I have a question for you....what is a proper slideshow? Hey Colin...thank you. Yes, Sammy is still hangin in there. When she sees the camping gear come out she lays in front of the gate to the front yard and car so I don't forget her. She is very old now so it is touch and go sometimes...but this time she really fooled me and kept up real well. She will be 12 this winter and that is very old for a larger dog. Thanks again for taking time to write.

Show is at: http://www.beechbrook.com/pte/ entitled Fall 2012...Mac and PC versions. It is 16:9 and 1920x1080 My basic camera is Canon 60D. I need that flip screen these days. And I use the 17x35mm zoom...f4. I don't need the faster lens as it is plenty bright in the Southwestern US, plus the f4 is the least expensive L series lens. I do wish money was no object...but it is to some extent. The length is nearly 9 minutes but it is broken into several sections. It features the New York Mts. in the Mojave Desert, a bit of Route 66, and Trona Pinnacles. I learned of Trona Pinnacles when I watched a bit of background info on the Star Trek V movie from years ago. It is in the movie. The weather was nice for a couple days then turned really bad. I have a readme file enclosed with the show with more info. I hope you enjoy the show...and thanks in advance for giving it a go. Oct. 22 2012 I'm about to post a listing for a show and have just read most of the posts on this topic. It has become a fun topic in my opinion. I'm favoring both sides. I should be in politics. On the one hand I like info from time to time, but on the other, I don't go to the movies and want to know what camera, paints, brushes, how many hairs on the brush, etc. that Steven Spielberg used to make a film. How's that...I just put my little shows right up there with Spielberg. And that is what I think a lot of people like to think when they create a show. After all, until they made the show, it didn't exist. Creativity is what makes us tic. But I will post a bit of info...maybe create a readme file with general info. I just assumed the show would play on everyone's monitor at optimum resolution so why tell them all about it. If my show is widescreen and their monitor isn't will it help to know my show was 1920x1080. I usually post that info anyway, but I am not sure why I do it. I guess if someone is new to PTE it might help them keep from trying to fix their screen? For me I like to create a show that moves me...and hopefully a few others...get the emotions going a bit. I once made the big mistake of asking a man in a bicycle race what kind of bike he road. He just glared at me and said "It isn't the bike". I was a bit offended as I really just wanted a reliable recommendation for a good bicycle. Anyway, if many think it is a good idea to post info on camera, lens, pic number,show length...that is one I don't want to post as I tend to get a bit long...like this note... You tell someone the movie is 3 hours long and they might not go. But if you ever saw a great movie, the length doesn't matter. How often has a movie ended and you were sorry it ended. Alrighty then...this saga must end. As I read over it I realize I really should have considered politics...ramble and don't commit. But it is a fun topic. Jeff Lunt

Hi Bill. Couldn't remember if I replied to this and didn't want to read every post. I just downloaded a show...5/14/2012, and enjoyed it and wanted to let the creator know how I liked it. I am a forum member but forget to use it for posting much of the time. I figure I'm using your site,Beechbrook, and would like to keep it all in one house. Just my two cents. I guess it would behoove us to put our email etc. in our shows like many of the people have done for years. I must remember that in the future...as it isn't your responsibility. I think your take is incorrect on the response of this post...if I read it correctly...i might not due to my med intake. I think the fact that not many people responded to your post means you should by all means include the authors address with the show. Not many know that the forum exists...and why go to another platform when you don't post there? I know Beechbrook and love it...I only post on the forum from time to time. Years ago I had posted shows on your site and had no idea people were discussing things I had created on the PTE forum. I answered comments more than a year old. I'd never have know except a friend of mind found me on the internet through PTE. Crazy, I know, but I hope I am making myself clear. I agree with Ken about the return addresses. Just the other day I downloaded one of Maureen's shows and couldn't find an address to write her my thoughts. I hadn't read this forum topic at that time. I just posted a new show on Beechbrook. It runs about 4 minutes or so. I used several cameras as I took pictures over several years. I use two video cameras plus my Canon 60D shoots video and I use my wife's SX40 for super zoom video. I mainly kept the show to stills as I think Beechbrook is comprised of still photographers for the most part. My next show is leaning toward more video as wildlife moves and sometimes stills just don't get it right. The show is from a wildlife refuge in New Mexico. I only use HD format these days...1920x1080. I hope you enjoy the show. Thanks for taking a moment. Jeff Lunt

Hey Colin...all the best to you. I'm glad your club enjoyed my earlier shows. It is very kind of you to let me know all went well. Once I post I never know for sure if they are making much of an impact. Of course I always hope they are making a positive impact, but you never know. Getting a new display machine sounds like a fine idea. I think the club would really get some enjoyment out of it. Wide-screen is the way to go these days...at least for landscape photos. I've been using the 60D lately, but a few years back I started using the XTI...that was the camera I used for the fall 2007 show. I still think I prefer it to my new 60D. I bought the 60D for video projects that are in low light and for the articulating screen. My back has really gone south in recent years so I need all the help I can get with framing a decent shot. I recently started organizing my old photos...and I must say, some of my best shots were with the 300D. I recently sold it for next to nothing, but it went to a young photography student so I was very pleased it went to good hands. Alright Colin. Good to hear from you. Use any of my shows you want for your club purposes. I'm glad you enjoy them. I'll be re-posting more of my earlier shows soon because in the old days I only left them up for a month and now I think they might be looked at once more. Thanks again, Jeff

Hi Bert...thanks for commenting. I understand the portrait landscape image display comment. I don't totally agree and feel quite restricted. In life I view things with big black areas all the time...though granted, they aren't slideshows. I just think of them as tall and or, fat. Anyway, I know the photography rules and see your point. As for the dog, well, she is part of my family so your comment is like saying "I'd prefer less shots of your kids"...and you can understand my ignoring that comment. Art...maybe not...but I think she is photogenic...and probably a lot more than most peoples' kids. Tongue in cheek, of course. Jeff

Hi Mary...thanks for all the kind feedback. You have a good eye, the wooden shoe, and now I know what they call that formation. I go along and photograph things and never learn their names. Actually, in The Great Sand Dunes NP, the water runs all the time...at least I think it does as there is a live spring. It is one of the few places on earth where the water Pulses about every 20 seconds. The water just doesn't always make it to the main dune area. If you go up a 4x4 track that runs below the campground you can find a nice private area...on the north end of the dunes where very few people go. Most folks only see the highest point of the dunes. I've been there a few times and I must say the snow makes a big difference in dramatic viewing. If we get a late spring snow I usually will plan a quick trip. The weather is good and fresh snow looks great. Early snows in the fall do the same. But March was quite cold and mostly dreary and windy...but it made for good pics. Off topic...and I know you've mentioned this before...where do you live in Northern Arizona? Jeff

I just wanted to mention that I have a couple new shows...Some Dreams Come True and part two of that show...Journey to Pedestal Alley. Both use PTE 7. Please update your AVG virus software as it will show a false positive if you don't. Many of us have had problems with this...but it has been resolved...so update to the newest AVG 2012. Basically the two shows show how I spent my summer vacation...and my philosophy on life. I have at least one more part coming...but in the meantime I've updated a couple old shows...and I've posted one of my all-time favorites...Fall 2007. It might be the best I've done so far. The Dom mentioned something I should do...when I posted a preview of 2007 back in the day...I used music from Basil Poledouris that moved along...and my preview was kind of flat...he said I should move it along with the music... I followed his advice and reedited my opening and went from there. Sometimes it is good to listen to others...though most of the time I'm not so sure. Anyway...I've posted a few shows recently and if you haven't checked them out...take a look and give a little feedback...even if it is a kick in the slats. That is why we post...though hopefully most of you will enjoy them as is...but if you want to mention something that you think might help...well, I'm all for it. My slats can still take it.
