Thanks for the comments Colin. As for the ratty sound...It is one of those things...if you can't hear it, it is hard to fix. I use pretty good speakers...and even headphones to check the sound...but sometimes is just doesn't translate. There are a lot of variables out there. I do use four different computers with different sound systems installed, and none of them displayed the problem. Oh well. Glad you enjoyed the show otherwise...and really happy you got emotional. Another show created from old snapshots...at Beechbrook. These were 3x5 inch shots from a photo album. It was a two week vacation...the first with Karen and our dog Buck, and the second with our parents joining us. My wife nearly shot me when she found out I had sent out invitations to the parents. Her's are very liberal politically, and mine are {were} very conservative. She thought it would be a nightmare. Her parents flew into Albuquerque and my parents picked them up and came up to Moab, Utah. They stayed in a local motel while Karen, Buck, and I stayed camping out of town. It turned out to be the only time we all went on a holiday together...and it turned out to be one of the great times in our lives. These pictures only hint of the fun, but boy did we have it. The slow pace is deliberate as the music works well with this pace...and the somber last part with the music just flowing to the less than happy ending is approppriate, as we all are heading to an ending of sorts. Hope you like it...I put it together last year and my copy of PTE at that time didn't let me put in pause functions. I knew how to do it, but it didn't work. All works from now on will have this function enabled. Until that time...Jeff

Thanks for the time. I think it is just some wacky combination of images and my particular set up. I haven't been able to duplicate it in any other form. On my set up, every horizontal image has a problem fading to a vertical image...but only with this set of images and only on the latest version. Not worth the time really...just a very curious thing to me. Glad it doesn't appear to be a software problem. Thanks again, everyone, for taking a moment to figure this out. Jeff

I just re-downloaded the program...same thing. I think I've narrowed it down a bit. It seems to be a problem with landscape to portrait orientation. The left side of image 1 won't fade out until after image 2 is fully faded in...and then it doesn't fade, just go out. Turned off Norton and everything else in the tray...nothing is running. Also, it seems to be with this set of images only. I have done several other shows just fine, but this one reared it's ugly head and I don't get it. I didn't take these images with my gear...but I have worked with this person before and I know what camera she used and I have just done a show with images from that camera recently. No problems...however....if anyone would like to try to duplicate the problem, I would be glad to send 2 images. Put the landscape picture first and the portrait pic second. Use fade in/out at any speed setting...the left side of the landscape does not fade out...just a few pixels wide, but enough to be very annoying. I probably won't have this problem again after this project...I think it must be a problem with the images. It's kind of fun trying to find out what is wrong...especially since I can just pop the show into an earlier beta and all is fine...I'm not in a desperate situation. I guess that is why I think there might be a software problem...the exact same show works in beta? Let me know if I can send the two files to anyone wanting to try it out. Jeff

Thanks for responding...but I don't think that is the problem. I ran the same show from the same computer with a different version of PTE. Nothing was different, only the version. I have the nvidia 8500 GT with 512 ram...core 2 duo...2 gigs ram. I do use Norton...but I always have, and without a hitch with previous versions...including most of the betas. I think I'll just download again and reinstall and see what happens. Very strange to me. Again, thanks guys...and keep thinking. I'm sure we will come up with something...and I will let you know if the re-install works. Jeff

I haven't had this problem with any previous version...only the latest deluxe version. The picture that is fading out stays bright on the far left hand side of the screen and then drops out suddenly as the new slide is totally faded in. This problem exists during preview and the created show. Very annoying...happens about 25% of the time. I loaded the same show into an earlier beta version and it works fine. Anyone else with this problem? Maybe I should just download PTE again? Jeff Lunt

Hello Neil...I too had this problem. I see others have commented on this situation. I originally downloaded to my laptop, which has a full gig of ram...and yet it played poorly. Obviously the graphics card came into play. I have found ways around large format files for the most part, since I used to used dial-up until recently. If the image starts with a significant zoom, just start with a crop. In the past I have used several crops for one zoom. It works well and keeps the digital load smaller, but I have no idea how David did his magic. Bottom line, great show...I love the virtual idea. I must dig out old backpacking slides and see if I can do anything like it. My favorite part was the rounding the rock to see the marker part. Great stuff. Jeff Lunt

Hey Lumenlux...good to hear from you. You are spot on about Little Wild Horse. And you must be in pretty good shape to do the loop through Bell and Little Wild Horse. We did it back in 1992 on a very hot summer day. It was my wife's first time and she went absolutely crazy for the place. Back in those days I shot video, and boy is it fun to watch now. Little Wild Horse is a difficult place to photograph...at least for me. Unfortunately we started out on a very windy overcast day. We were just getting too the very narrow part when it started to rain. The large cloud shots and wind shots at the ghost ranch were just after leaving Wild Horse. The purple flowers were in White Canyon...also the humming bird nest. I was going to photograph a twig coming out of the canyon wall and when I walked up to it. I was pleasantly surprised. And the flowers were only in that one spot. We walked a couple miles and saw nothing like it anywhere else. I remember your Goblin Valley show. What an incredible place. Now for the questions...again you are spot on...you must be eating well, Melting Canyon is a name i've used since before I knew the real name. I left the real name out so that it wouldn't get too crowded. In the old days you had to find the place as there were no signs, but now there is a nice sign and a parking area. Very rustic, but still it is becoming pretty well known. Back about 20 years ago my nephew and I would go out there...I will tell you where in a moment, and we would feel like junior explorers. We would be there when it was 100 degrees and just have a blast. One of my favorite images in my mind of my nephew as a boy is when one afternoon when the sun was blasting down, I was laying in the shade and he grabbed a shovel and went off to do some mining. We had been looking for old bottles and I had gotten lucky and found one completely intact. Now here was this boy of about 10 walking off in 100 degree heat with a small shovel...and the place he was digging was an old dump...but to him it was a gold mine. He is now in Japan working on his doctorate in some kind of genetic science. He had to go there to work with some fairly famous professor...and the University of Chicago is paying him..not too bad for an old gold digger. Times have changed..... The canyon's real name is Crack...and you were right next to it when you hiked Bell and Little Wild Horse. It is approached from the west side, and the good part is right away. It is a favorite because there is a large camping area right there and the hike is totally easy. Nice for us old guys as the years go by. Another plus is, it is so easy the young guys looking for a challenge skip it, or go through so quickly they aren't in the area long. The mud was right next to the road about a mile or two after you cross the bridge heading from Blanding to Hanksville on highway 95. It didn't look like too much from the road, but once we got down there it was fantastic. 7 feet deep in spots. Sammy was quite brave about it all. You were very lucky to see the old canyon before they filled it up. I would love to see it, and may if the rains don't get with it. And I agree, Igor has brought a lot of happiness to many people with this wonderful program. Thanks for taking the time to post a great letter. Thanks Fred. Whenever I have images that might look like I have driven or camped in open land I will post an ending like that. I don't want anyone thinking we are careless out there. The land is just too incredible to disturb. Each part had a scene where it might look suspicious depending on the angle at which I composed the picture. In part 1 our camp looks quite remote when it is actually located very near lake powell. It is a favorite because most people don't see the dirt road heading off the main road. It is a very nice road that any vehicle could drive down, and yet we are almost always alone at this spot. Thanks again, Jeff

Hello Colin. Thank you for the very kind and generous remarks. New Zealand is one of the places on earth I would love to see. Unfortunately the funds aren't up to the task, so I will be searching for your shows to see what I can see from good old New Mexico. You have my permission to use the shows as you wish. I hope they do the trick for your club. I love the PTE program, and the hands on feedback and care from the people who continue to develop it. Sammy is a great dog and I really need something for scale in some of the shots. Many of the canyon shots wouldn't look like much until one understands the scale. Thank you David...you have incredible taste...Ha. Part two is my favorite by far. Part one has a favorite campsite, and part three has a dried lake portion near the end that I was excited about. Karen and I drove by it on our way northwest and both of us wanted to look at it closer on the way back. Lake Powell is way, way down. It is better than it was in 2004, but still quite low. Some of the cracks in the lake bed are about 7 feet deep. Sammy was very brave walking over them. Thanks for taking the time to comment. It was a very enjoyable trip. Jeff

Having a monthly competition, or annually, like they do on some of the camera-photography forums might be fun. Keep it to those who wish to participate only. Sometimes it is nice to just post a very casual show that might have nothing to do with art. I like travelogues, and they sure aren’t art most of the time, but once in a while I think I hit it right and might want to participate in a competition…but then there would be so many categories. For now I have my own rating system in place…if one person emails me about a show, I feel I have a modest success. If I get a few emails I feel quite proud for a day or two. The comments are usually complimentary, but many have critical remarks as well…usually more of this and less of that kind of stuff, but I take that as a compliment as well, seeing as it takes time to write and I appreciate it. I just wanted to mention that several of the buildings in my latest show have what looks like swastikas on them. I have gotten a couple emails and thought I should just briefly clarify. The same symbol has been used by Native Americans for thousands of years...it signifies the four winds. It was also found in the ancient ruins believed to be Troy. Needless to say, it has been around for a long time and only in recent history has it taken on a very different meaning. The buildings in the show were made in the late 20's and early 30's...long before Americans knew what was going on in Germany. Thanks, and I hope this helps a bit. Jeff

I looked at my post to you and realized I wasn't making myself very clear with the wav and mp3 comments. I will make sure I reread my remarks a little more carefully before posting in the future. I make my own mp3 files from wav mixes. I use the mp3 in the slideshows and wav's for the video. I know I was very vague with my earlier posts. Interesting that Igor got to the bottom of the situation so quickly. Well...again...thanks for the help. I will need it again before too long. Jeff

Hi Al....and thanks for the help...I use Adobe Premiere a lot. It recommends wav files and not mp3. I was referring to DVD burning only...and not PTE slide shows. Also...I want to say that Igor tweaked a version of PTE exe. and it worked fantastic. No need to worry...this guy is on it. Thanks for all the help. By the way...with the tweaked Igor version, everything works just fine...even with mp3 files...I'm totally amazed. Jeff

Hi Fred...and thanks for commenting. You are right...I was using mp3 and I will use wav from now on. I always do in Adobe Premiere, but forgot on the slide show. Everything was just fine in the preview....but good ideas just the same. I got a note from Igor and he let me use a preliminary beta 9 and it worked just fine. It will be a wonderful program as it works with a couple clicks...Create DVD....Burn...amazing to have software that works so good with so many combinations of equipment, resolutions, and formats. Just Amazing. Again, thanks. I think Igor has matters in hand. Jeff

I am using 8U beta, so this might just be a problem because of beta. I've read a few of the other DVD burning posts, but I didn't see my particular problem. I click Video then Create DVD disc and then Add...which puts my project in the appropriate place. It then lists my program as 296 MB and 5:44 length. It then burns 5:44 of my show and then stops...that is about half the show. I also output to AVI, but it too ends up 5:44. It burns just dandy up to 5:44...and then stops. Tried it on two computers with no change at all. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry, I didn't read every post on every subject. Jeff

Hello Again....I tried 1600x1200, both versions...no problem. I tried 1920x1080...no problem. Tried any other resolution on my higher end monitor and just couldn't get it to guff up. I guess I'm not able to duplicate the problem, so I'll leave it to the powers that be. I am amazed at how well the program works with so many variables. Hope Al and Igor can figure what gives, or what I'm doing wrong? Salute to Igor for a wonderful program. Jeff
