Things One Might Find In The Deep Forest....
Lin Evans replied to Lin Evans's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
LOL - Thanks! Just passing time, playing around and anticipating version 10 which Igor and the team are doing a great job with! There should be lots of great interest in version 10, especially when the MacIntosh version is released. There are many Mac users chomping at the bit !!! Best regards, Lin -
Interesting issue with Win 7 may have PTE implications.
Lin Evans replied to Lin Evans's topic in General Discussion
Hi Igor - I'm not certain this bug in Windows 7 64 bit was ever solved. Just in case something like this were to happen with PTE thumbnails, It's good to know about it. Here's a comment from one of the Resolve users: "I recently encountered this thumbnail problem too - eventually the system becomes unusable as the thumbnail generator seems to consume memory and processor cycles. There are other reports that the problem is caused by "corrupted media files" - once the thumbnail process encounters a corrupted file, the process goes haywire. Initially, I disabled thumbnails by choosing to show icons only (Control Panel | Folder options | View tab, then check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"). Without thumbnails, the problem goes away but without the ability to see your jpg and video files in Explorer. Acting on a hunch, the problem seemed to be due to a media file on the desktop. I moved all media files to a folder, not on the desktop, and the problem went away. I do have side-by-side mp4 files as I create 3D videos. I have other SxS files that do not seem to be causing problems with the thumbnail generator. This is not a new problem in Windows 7 - there are online reports of this going back to Vista. There's no excuse for this defect in Windows to still exist. Ed" Just something to file away in case... Best regards, Lin -
In my early years, I played bluegrass music to help pay my way through college. In those days I traveled about a lot and was fortunate to be allowed the privilege of playing with some world-class musicians. I have many fond memories of sitting in motel rooms at night and jamming with famous musicians like Bill Monroe, Jim & Jessie, Dan Crary, and other famous people who made their livings all their lives as musicians. After my wife Sherry passed away, my girlfriend Lisah Runninghorse Pakula, a very, very talented model, artist, musician, etc., talked me into once again picking up my old Martin D41 because she wanted to continue to entertain. Sadly a stroke took my voice and Lisah was called home to sing with the angels on March 1 of 2018 so we never had the chance to do what she wanted. In this little video, Dan Crary sings and plays "The Stories We Could Tell" and it allowed me to relive some old memories. The cushion on the chair is from a painting Lisah did after I took her to New Mexico to meet clients of mine whom I formerly did photography for. She was so impressed with the little artist enclave of Madrid, New Mexico (pronounced Mad' Drid - unlike the Spanish Town) with the emphasis on the first syllable that she painted a huge work called "The Road To Madrid"... The picture over the fireplace is Lisah and Me sitting on my couch in Colorado made in 2015. We had big plans, but life got in the way I guess... Anyway this is my friend Dan Crary singing and playing in a club years ago - thought it was a appropriate song to bring back the memories... Lin

Very nice styles Gogs, but perhaps more accurately called "spiral effects" than Kaleidoscopic effects. Jean Cyprien produced a Kaleidoscope style which looks like this: Best regards, Lin

Really great stability there. I'm impressed with the quality you get from the drone's camera. Excellent work !!! Best regards, Lin

Yes, we have limits here too - but the actual ground altitude in some of the places I will use it is 14,268 feet so it will have to be able to probably at least have a service ceiling of about 15,000 feet. Hopefully, I'll be able to learn to fly it in an hour - that would be nice. I'm an old pilot with lots of hours in small aircraft - I used to have a 1939 Aeronca Chief back in the early and mid 60's and I've got probably close to 1000 hours in small aircraft, but after being shot down in a helicopter in Vietnam and also surviving a Caribou crash, I decided not to fly anymore. I'm impressed with the smoothness of the videos. Did you have to stabilize them in post, or is the camera on the drone already that good? Best regards, Lin
-
Exceptional Barry... Great stability in the videos and beautiful land and seascapes make a great subject. I've been holding off on buying a drone primarily because here I would be shooting at extreme altitudes and usually in relatively heavy winds. Most of the places here in Colorado which have interesting landscapes, wildlife, etc., are situated at altitudes from 10,000 to over 14,000 feet elevation and to get the performance necessary in a drone the cost is prohibitive. They are getting better and a couple of the manufacturers are now producing drones which can deal even with 19,000 feet elevation and handle fairly heavy winds. Now it's just a matter of getting enough saved to get one of the better functioning machines and learning to use it. Best regards, Lin

You've got it !!! That's exactly the same effect as shown in the video rendition... Best regards, Lin

(SOLVED)Difficulty using a panorama photo - does not display
Lin Evans replied to ggr001's topic in Troubleshooting
What format is your pano file? I use panoramas in slideshows all the time, if it's a jpg, bmp, or png format you should have no problem using it. If it's a tiff, it won't work. Best regards, Lin -
PTE usually makes a suggestion to "convert" videos which need it to play in an executable format. When converted the file is automatically switched to a new format with "converted" as part of the file name. The converted file is in an AVI format easier for an executable format to play. This will not be necessary with the new version 10 which is on the horizon presently and will be available soon. Best regards, Lin

I noticed when messing around with some of my video files from my Nikon P1000 and P900 that Irfanview will not play the mp4's, but when converted to the AVI format in the PTE "optimization" feature, they play perfectly with Irfanview. Lin

Years ago one of our frequent forum visitors and innovative PTE users was TheDom. Dominique produced many unique templates and styles and had several websites where he distributed his styles and templates. Some jerk(s) kept hacking his sites and eventually, he left the forum to pursue other interests in life. He has been back a few times and probably will return when version 10 is released and hopefully create yet more great styles. He was on in 2016 to give an updated site link - https://gumroad.com/thedom This is a little box of snapshots from Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Zion and some interesting formations near Cimarron, New Mexico using Dominic's Box Style.... This was from 2012. Lin

Yellow Bird - A Suggestion For Transitions
Lin Evans replied to Lin Evans's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
Excellent Jean-Cyprien !!! The transitions work perfectly and on my XP system the show is butter smooth !!! Thanks! Lin -
Hi Folks, Back in 2012 Marcel, one of our French speaking PTE users developed an interesting technique which he showed to one of the Chinese users of PTE who posted an example on YouTube. Tom Mendenhall saw it and asked about it and subsequently, Marcel posted a link to a PDF instruction. I translated the PDF into English and posted it in the form of a jpg. Igor showed yet another way to do this and I made an AVI tutorial (#36 in the PTE Made Easy Series). I thought that perhaps new users of PTE who may not have seen this might find it interesting. Also I thought that this technique might make some interesting transitions. Dave??? Anyway - here's an example from 2012 ..... Best regards, Lin

Hi Ingrid, Which version of Windows are you running? Usually this type problem is that your microphone is not properly set up in Windows. Try this: Run the command "sndvol32.exe /r" from your computer's "Start -> Run ..." . Then the recording control panel window will appear, make sure * check the right device, most situations you should check the "Stereo Mixer" device, if you record from microphone, then you should check the "Mic" device. * Uncheck the "mute" Best regards, Lin

Optimization of Video Clip Message AFTER Export
Lin Evans replied to Xenofex2's topic in General Discussion
Hi George, Look at the images in the slide list. If they don't have the .converted name then they haven't been converted or you haven't selected the converted versions. Best regards, Lin -
Thanks Judy - glad to hear you're having a quick recovery. I've been very, very fortunate. I was expecting probably surgery and a week or so in the hospital, but the CAT Scan last night was negative and I was given a clean bill of health. My daughter came out from California to Colorado to take care of my Service Pup Ruby and at 2:23 am we got back from the hospital where I was released with a simple prescription and a kick in the fanny... LOL I sure hope we hear from Ken or his daughter soon... Best regards, Lin

Hi Folks, Ken had a stroke and lost the ability to use the right side of his body. His speech was also affected. His daughter placed him in a rehab center with plans to move him to either an assisted living place or a rest home. He had his iPad to communicate and tried to send me a video message but I don't have a camera on my computer so we were not able to connect. I've also sent a couple emails and also Facebook messages with no reply so I don't know anything further either. I myself will be going into the hospital very soon and will be out of contact probably for a week or more. Best regards, Lin

Nice review of this card here: Just noticed this is a 1060 rather than a 1050 but I think other than clock speed they are about the same. Lin
-
External GPU is probably going to be a big selling point in the future for laptops. Right now there are a number of laptops being built which have provisions for external video cards. The current connect is a Thunderbolt 3 which is at present not as good as the PCI-E connection internally, but it has a USB-C port form factor so doesn't take up a lot of room on the laptop. With eGPU one can easily upgrade the video card which will greatly extend the usable life span of a laptop for use with high performance animation, gaming, etc. Lin

Sort Slides by Date Taken
Lin Evans replied to David Porter's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Igor - there are four places in a normal file where date and time are given. Below is an example from Irfanview using a digital photo I took in China in 1999. I would suggest using something like EXIF Pilot to put different values in each of these places to be certain which you are calling with the template.. The fist example is in the Properties and the second in the EXIF. If the file is modified or saved again after the original - the Properties time and date will reflect that. Best regards, Lin
