Jean-Cyprien's great book style also makes a nice addition to the wedding styles for use as a book. I re-skinned it with different back and front and spine and made a small change in the beginning and I think it makes a nice addition to the wedding styles available. I also changed the tilt from 30 degrees to 3 degrees for those who would use images of people and want less perspective distortion. So there are two styles in the zipped archive link below as well as the spine for those whose language isn't English. Just take the spine (dos__8297.jpg) into Photoshop or other editor which allows text and clone out the text and replace "Our Wedding" with your choice of words on the spine then re-save under the same file name. One you have changed the spine - go into PTE 9 and run and apply the style. Next select slide one and change dos__8297.jpg from the existing on to your modified one. You can hold the ctrl key down and select all instances of dos__8297 then swap the existing one for the new one. After doing that, select the four slides and go to "Slide Style" and "Tools" then "Create Style" and create a new style which will have your new book spine. Use 1, 4, 2, 1 from the top down for the number for "first slide, slide count, number of slides for beginning and number of slides for end." Enter your own bride and groom names and wedding date in the first slide. The names and wedding date are found under Couverture Devant near the bottom of the objects list on the first slide... The second style just changes the tilt from 30 degrees to 3 degrees to minimize distortion on people pictures...

Thanks Ken! Jean-Cyprien's style make it a walk in the park. Just crop portrait 3:2 images to 960x640 pixels (no need to user larger because they get downsized anyway) and put in an even number of images eight or more (8, 10, 12, etc.) and apply the style. The first two images and the last two don't get a border and are intended for text on png transparency, but you can use PNG art as well (clip-art, etc) or jpg - thumbnails on a transparent background. You don't have to use them, you "can" just put regular jpg or png images but the first and last slide (both sides of the open page) will not have a border.) Best regards, Lin -
A great new style for a New Year's Gift by Jean-Cyprien. Here's a quick demo for PC and Mac. I did this for my little granddaughter and she loves it... Thanks Jean! http://www.lin-evans.org/lin/lyndseypc.zip http://www.lin-evans.org/lin/lyndseymac.zip Lin

Since you have so many videos - do it the way Denis suggests and that "should" eliminate video sound as a potential issue. I always suggest eliminating the embedded video soundtrack if for no other reason than having waveform control of the complete sound in your show. Best regards, Lin

Hi Bob, How many videos in the show have their internal clip sound used rather than adding the video as an audio? How many total videos in the show? The reason I'm asking is that perhaps you could mute the videos using their own internal sound then add the videos as audios if there are not too many. It might be worth trying. Best regards, Lin

Topics tend to stray because actually it's nearly impossible to directly answer the OP's question about pricing. Pricing depends on the market, competition, affluence of the audience, etc. It's like asking how much to charge for shooting a wedding. The price can vary from $200 or less to as much as $50,000 or more depending on the client and what is included. If the Queen were to pass away and one were to make a show the price would certainly be a great deal different than if you or I were to pass away. The expectations would differ greatly as well. I would go ahead and add your comments because there is likely to be no consensus on Memorial Video Pricing.... Best regards, Lin

LOL - Judy, I reasoned this situation with Adobe when they first began the subscription conversion and I stopped with Photoshop 6 extended. It does everything I need and there is no problem with "phone home." Creative-Cloud is a relatively inexpensive solution for those unwilling or unable to pay the price for the older products and it does provide a predictable income stream for Adobe, but I've never bought into this paradigm and probably won't live long enough to have to change. As for the pricing structure - I completely agree with your assessment. It's difficult to get what one's service is worth these days where everyone deems themselves competent photographers and the most frequent question I'm asked when I produce a PTE show with a few special touches which can't be done with competitive products is "where can I buy the app for my iPhone so I can do this next week without learning or studying?" I have to laugh and explain that there is no "app" which can create these type things - some creations are just not amenable to automation - push a button and out pops nearly a perfect show. Many people today are not impressed with what is being done because they are accustomed to "magic" and tend to think "anyone could do that, all they need is the app" LOL Back in 1995 when I was making my living doing art gallery content photography, I spent $30,000 for my first digital camera (Kodak DCS-460). It paid for itself in a year because I had broken with the long photography tradition of owning the negative and charging each time a print was needed. I priced my services at $100 per hour or $800 per day and the gallery owned all rights to the work which was delivered on CD or other portable media. They got all that I could photograph in a day. Of course post processing took another day so actually my actual income was closer to $50 per hour. The actual time doing photography was what I charged for and the post processing was on me. This worked out to be a very good deal for my clients. When amortized over the number of prints and/or display images they used to help sell their products it was win/win. Of course this was all a commercial endeavor and I didn't have to deal with the "end user." With doing work for funerals, my suggestion would be to consider approaching funeral homes and perhaps make a deal with them so as not to have to deal directly with the bereaved. Of course this means giving a portion to the funeral home but still might allow for a higher rate and no direct dealing with the client. Best regards, Lin

Hi Denis, I moved it from Troubleshooting for the Holidays and will move it back to Troubleshooting after the holiday season. If you go to Troubleshooting, there is the link there so Igor will see it but if it is "only" in troubleshooting, most will not see the Advent show.... Best regards, Lin

LOL - Yes, chroma key extraction works well for movies and videos, but not for the real world where there is no projected or generated background. What I have in mind doesn't require any specific background or projection - just a simple reproduction of whatever the existing background on the display which the subject wears... Two ways of achieving invisibility - one for the studio and another for virtually any environment. Best regards, Lin

Thanks! It was a fun little experiment... Best regards, Lin

Just for fun folks... On Facebook, someone posted a video depicting a man carrying a roll of plastic. When he unrolled the plastic and covered himself with it, he became transparent and it was possible to see the leaves, trees and landscape behind him. It was, of course, a hoax made probably with Adobe After Effects but lately there have been numerous videos of this guy and the text that goes along is that a "professor in Hong Kong," or a scientist in South Korea or someone else had invented this. Of course many people were fooled and thinking it was real, shared the video. It got me to thinking how nice it is to have the ability with PTE to make objects invisible but of course using the "opacity" tool will make a subject disappear, but not in the same way as by drawing a piece of plastic over makes the subject disappear a little at a time. Of course by using the proper masking techniques in PTE it is completely possible to do this so I created a little fun show doing this very thing. It did, however, get me thinking about real invisibility. In physics labs today it's possible to make small objects invisible by bending light around them, but we are far from being able to make a human disappear - or are we? I got to thinking about how that might be possible. Today we have totally flexible materials which function perfectly for electronic displays. They are available but not being sold or used at present. What if a suit were made out of this material including gloves and a hood. There could be two small irregular patches of something like dark mosquito netting allowing the person wearing the suit to easily see, but it would be almost impossible to see their eyes and with an irregular shape it would pretty much render them (eyes) invisible. Now place an array of tiny cameras on the back of this suit pointing and focused at what would be behind the subject and connect them so that a continuous video was displayed of the landscape behind on the front and sides of the suit and one would have virtual invisibility from the front assuming sufficient brightness. From even a shot distance the subject would be pretty well camouflaged and appear to be just more of the background as long as he/she remained within the proper zoom range. Just a thought !! Perhaps it has already been done? Who knows... Anyway - a little fun show of PTE's masking capability... http://www.lin-evans.org/lin/invisibilitypc.zip (about 13 meg) http://www.lin-evans.org/lin/invisibilitymac.zip (about 13 meg) Lin

Hi Igor, Perhaps just the formatting of bold, italics, and underscore would be sufficient if possible, and to possibly match the font if available? Best regards, Lin
-
In addition to the above, we really need the option of importing text so it can be spell checked in an editor first then imported into PTE so it will automatically wrap within the available text box space. Because of the multiple languages and the fact that most people already have a good text editor, I don't think having spell check built in to PTE is necessary if we can import text with formatting. Best regards, Lin

That's probably because a "beta" version of 9.14 was first posted for testing and perhaps it was not yet updated on the main link... Best regards, Lin
