Hi Tom, Just so I'm clear - do you have a physical ethernet connect running from your PC in one room to you TV in another? Like through the wall, etc? Or, is the ethernet connect between the Link device and the TV? Best regards, Lin

Advanced Curling Page CT with See Through Text

Thank you !!! You've opened a new thought process for me... I was lamenting the loss of the ability to export text to a PNG file with version 9, but my sole reason for doing this was to use the PNG text as a mask and now I realize that it can easily be done by simply cutting the text and then pasting it to a mask stencil. This also opens other thought possibilities such as applying transparent background PNG files as the mask stencil and experimental fun... It also occurred to me that one can just add a blank mask to any image then add text to the mask stencil and whatever to the mask content which defacto creates the text mask without needing a PNG image. I added a small video tutorial to my PTE Made Easy series showing how to do this... Best regards, Lin -

That works Dave, and if you make your text modification as desired, then "cut" the text, create a blank mask and insert the cut text as the mask stencil you can then insert a video (flames, etc.) or jpg or png as the mask content..... Best regards, Lin -

The exe runs perfectly on my XP system - (2 gig nVidia GTX 750 Ti Video Card) but I can't get the pteeff to work - haven't tried on my 32 gig system yet. I'm assuming you apply the transition to the transparent background PNG text file... It starts to do something but then the text just disappears... Probably not sufficient CPU power or system RAM.. I tried to lower the graphic requirement by using only the PTE image and using the second image as the default background but it didn't help... Just tested on my 32 gigabyte i7 with plenty of resources including video card - The last letter just disappears and then all the text disappears. The exe runs perfectly on this system also... Thanks Manuel, Just playing with ideas... Best regards, Lin -
Just wondering if anyone would like a style which creates this scene with your own transparent background PNG image inside this Crystal Bourbon Decanter? Lin Link to Styles Below: There are 11 SnowGlobe type styles in this zipped archive. Three are pretty large (about 15 meg) because they contain not only the bottle but the animated background which goes with. The three large styles are "Snow In Decanter" - "Snow in Crystal Decanter" (the ones above) and "Perfume Bottle Snow". Perfume bottle snow and Snow in Decanter are very, very similar. Slight differences in wave action in background picture and position of transparent background object in relation to the snow field. Hi Dave, I haven't looked at MUR's construct but have always just used a broad text in white on a black background with or without a stroke as a mask and run either a video flame or some other file (jpg, etc.) as the mask content. I created a number of videos of flames in ParticleIllusion which work well for the content. In Version 8 I created the text in PTE then exported to a PNG. Sometimes I still use Version 8 to do that then transfer the PNG file to PTE 9 - I kind of miss that capability with Version 9 - it was very handy. I find it a lot quicker to use PTE for manipulating the text prior to exporting it to PNG than doing it in all in Photoshop. Obviously when I want to distort the text - follow a curve, etc., I use Photoshop for the entire construct. Best regards, Lin

Nice! It would be great if PTE 9 or a future version could export text to a PNG like it did in Version 8 - Unfortunately I haven't found a way to use Photoshop to edit an existing PNG with transparency using the Text features - I thought perhaps one could save a PNG as a Photoshop PSD or PDD then modify that but apparently not possible. It's possible to save a PNG as a PSD/PDD but not possible to edit it as with a PSD/PDD created and not converted to a PNG. There "may" be a way to do it, but if so, it's beyond my Photoshop knowledge. Currently it appears that one should save the PSD/PDD before saving as a PNG then if there is a need to change the file, it can be done without re-creating it. Perhaps in the future PTE will be able to use a PSD/PDD file as it now uses jpg and PNG, etc. Best regards, Lin

Hi John, Actually - PTE doesn't have the "action" capability which Photoshop has. As you probably know, an action is a "macro" which performs various Photoshop function in sequence on a selected object. With PTE the "styles" feature lets you apply various features available in PTE to an image, but since PTE isn't a photo editor, these functions are limited to things such as levels, brightness, contrast, opacity, blur, colors (intensity, hue, change to sepia, grayscale, cyan, toning, negative) etc, so that an effect such as a "sketch" isn't feasible. Perhaps in a later version some of the features available in Pix Builder Studio might become available, but trying to be an "all-in-one" product might be getting a bit far from the core user's needs? Best regards, Lin

Thanks Alan and Robert - I'm making slow but steady progress - waiting right now on the Veteran's Administration to approve an extension to my speech therapy. Because the end of the fiscal year came early in my scheduled therapy, I had to be re-approved and it takes about six weeks to get it done so I'm in limbo for a while until the approval is done and I can get back into therapy. Best regards, Lin

Thanks Gary - I think it's fixed now.. Best regards, Lin

First let me apologize for my speech in this tutorial. A stroke took my ability to speak and I'm still trying to recover. I have created a tutorial to demonstrate how to use the series of snowglobe styles. In the links below are the zipped styles themselves as well as the zipped video tutorial. I will remove this post after the holidays but thought it might be something which could be of general interest in the meantime. Best regards, Lin EDIT One thing I neglected to mention in the tutorial is that if you want the time for the display of the globe to be less than one minute, AND if you want the snowfall to remain the same speed, change the time in the SLIDE OPTIONS. If you change the time in the style before applying, it will affect the speed of snowfall. A shorter duration vial the style adjustment before applying will result in faster snowfall. Because the snowfall is a constant speed via PNG movement, changing the display time in the SLIDE OPTIONS does not affect the speed of snowfall. http://www.lin-evans.org/tutorial/snowglobestyles.zip (about 8 meg total - zipped snowglobe styles) http://www.lin-evans.org/tutorial/snowglobetutorials.zip (about 75 meg zipped video tutorial) EDIT: Added Demo Zipped Video http://www.lin-evans.org/tutorial/snowglobedemo.zip (about 75 meg zipped demo of styles)
