Inserting Images-Different Results-(SOLVED)
Lin Evans replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
Gary, If your mouse cursor is in different places when you release the switch on sequential selections, then the images will be deposited in those respective positions. That's why you can "drag" images in the timeline to different positions. You are asking to have your cake and eat it too! If you make your selections by holding down the CTRL key and left click on desired files, then right click and select "Add selected files to Project" then the images will be sequenced according to the default time. If you instead drag and drop them, they will be placed accordingly with the position of the cursor at the time you release the mouse switch and unless you know precisely where that position is, the times will appear random. They are indeed "not" random but rather the result of the position of the cursor when you "drop" the images. My suggestion would be to do it as Dave suggested and not try to reinvent the wheel here. It works as it is intended to work. Best regards, Lin -
I suspect the reason why the extension is not directly accepted is that the M2TS or MTS (same file, different extension) is also used in the AVCHD format which PTE doesn't yet support. There will be a new ffmpg library in the future (8.5) I think, and it will accept several different extensions directly. But for now it appears that we must manually change various extensions such as M2TS, MTS, MOD which are all MPEG-2 variants to get the PTE converter to accept them. If the M2TS extension were automatically accepted and the format was AVCHD, I suspect the converter would crash and to avoid this possibility, the developers elected to not automatically accept these extensions. Just a guess on my part... Best regards, Lin

Inserting Images-Different Results-(SOLVED)

Hi Gary, Because you can change the duration of a slide in the timeline by dragging it to a different position the timeline is an unreliable way to place new slides into your show unless you intend to drag them to an exact position vis the timeline. Do it from the slide list ...... There is no logical way to give you the flexibility PTE has without the risk of improper operator action. You "could" place your transmission in reverse on your auto when you want to go forward but that's not the proper way to achieve your goal. You "can" turn the key and actuate your starter motor with the engine already running in many cars, but the manufacturer doesn't expect the operator to do that. Just do it the right way and get on with making your slideshow - LOL Lin -
Hi Jeff, Excellent show !! Almost like actually being there I imagine! By far the best coverage of Iceland I've seen! Thanks, Best regards, Lin

Hi Mike, What this indicates is that you have two images overlapping one another in time. Click on the image with the red line and drag it to the right until the red goes away then check your image for display time and the chosen transition and make any necessary changes. Best regards, Lin

Well - I spoke too soon. Yesterday 60 F and sunny - shirt sleeve weather. This morning 15 F and this.... just a gentle reminder that it's still winter... LOL Lin

LOL - it was 60 degrees here today!! Love that little boat, the Elmarue ... Nice weather and great blind effect!!! Best regards, Lin

It looks great on my 30" 2560x1600 display. I'm not certain what actual resolution it's being shown at. Since there was zero download time it's really hard to know. Of course the subject matter was carefully chosen for optimal color and impact but the details were quite good. Not as good as an image displayed from one of my higher resolution cameras on the same display so perhaps the output was only HD 1920x1080, but still impressive. I'm wondering how they can display it without significant download time? It must be streamed directly... Best regards, Lin

One of the real issues which must be dealt with before that can become de jure is a major improvement in our ability to transmit this magnitude of information over the airwaves and networks. Rather than a linear increase in composite signal complexity, it's more logarithmic. Hopefully, we will be able to keep up so that this can become a reality, but I'm a little afraid it may be like broadcast 3D and get sidetracked for a few years. I agree - PTE shows would be amazing at 4K or even 8K if technology in the GPU and such can stay abreast. Best regards, Lin

MOD Files - not appearing to add to show
Lin Evans replied to BobFlangan's topic in General Discussion
Hi Bob, Call up your Command Prompt (dot prompt) and navigate to the folder where your files are. Use this command: rename *.mod *. mpg then press Enter..... That should do it quickly Best regards, Lin -
MOD Files - not appearing to add to show
Lin Evans replied to BobFlangan's topic in General Discussion
Hi Bob, Try renaming one of them with the dot mpg extension and see if PTE will recognize. I'm not "certain" but I "think" the MOD extension and the MPG extension are equivalent and you can add an MPG extension video to PTE... Best regards, Lin -
Hi Gary, Yes, using 8.0.1 andI can't make it happen with my system running XP Home Edition which is why I believe it's a Windows issue rather than a PTE issue. On my other system with Windows 8.1 I can make it happen. This tells me that it's probably a Windows issue. It would be possible to resolve it with PTE changes, but it's not a PTE design flaw. Best regards, Lin

Hi Peter, I still believe this is a Windows issue. I can't make it happen with my Windows XP system. Best regards, Lin

Hi Gary, That's a Windows issue - not a PTE issue... Best regards, Lin

Hi Dave, There is one more option. While a little more expensive, if you shop around you can find an inexpensive web host where you have essentially unlimited bandwidth for downloads and unlimited storage space for a few dollars a month. You have the option of just using this server space as storage and/or building a website. I have a couple hundred gigabytes or more of shows, tutorials, images, etc., stored this way and have had such for over 14 years without an issue. Just provide a link for those who wish to download your files and there is never an advertisement or potential for clicking the wrong thing. I use One and One - link below. Just another option.... Hi Gary, Try removing the video and replacing it with a still image, change the aspect ratio then without removing the new image, insert the video and save the file. Re-open the file and delete the jpg and see what happens. Best regards, Lin
-
I think a clue might be that the aspect ratio reveals "Custom" which is not a choice. What did you put in the show in the way of files? Was the first slide a custom video by any chance? Best regards, Lin

Hi Ron, Looks fine .... I like the old steam vehicle .... The zoom was smooth and the images of the cars excellent. As long as you don't have any complex animation I think you could use either 720p or 1080p and would get good results with either. It's when you get some complex animations which seem to break down with 1080p - at least that's been my experience. Best regards, Lin

Slideshow presentation of PicturesToExe 8.0 ...
Lin Evans replied to Aginum's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
Nice job Charlie! Bests regards, Lin -
Hi Ron, Just take the PTE defaults and you can publish to YouTube at full HD 1920x1080. Keep in mind, however, that many 1080p Youtube presentations do not play as smoothly as one might like. This is likely due to download issues and not system resources. After upgrading my computer to absolutely top-end specs, I find that most of my HD YouTube uploads still do not play anywhere nearly as smoothly as the MP4's on the system directly. I get better results with 720p than with 1080p myself. Best regards, Lin

Thanks Geoff, I'll look into that - sounds like the way to go for me. Old habits die hard and I "hate" learning a new OS.... Best regards, Lin

It's working out really well Judy. The system has all the power I need to do any conceivable animation and run it at 2560x1600. I just put a set of Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX certified speakers on and I think my neighbors will probably call the police if I'm not careful - LOL. The sub-woofer will blow everything off my desk if I crank up the bass even half way. I put a 900 watt 1500 Joule battery backup on which gives me a full hour of battery backup in case of power failure. I really like the 30" display because I can actually "read" normal text. High resolution text in 12 point size on a smaller display is so tiny I can hardly make it out, but on the 30" display it's quite legible even at 2560x1600 resolution. I couldn't read text on my 21" CRT at 1600x1200 so I did most of my work at 1024x768 - not a problem with this big 30. Now I just have to save enough to buy Photoshop CS6 Extended for it and I'll be ready to work in PTE on it instead of my older system. I'm keeping it pretty lean and not putting too much in the way of surplus software on it. The C: drive partition is pretty small so I won't tax it Best regards, Lin

Hi Mick, A little more on the aspect ratio - in retrospect, the primary reason I've been using 4:3 is that I can cover my 5:4 aspect ratio display completely with the 4:3 plus a 112 percent zoom. There are still quite a few of my old clients using higher resolution (1600x1200 and higher) CRT displays which are 5:4 aspect ratio and a number of them with 4:3 displays. The new 16:9 is taking over the mid-range and HD resolution displays, but the top-end resolution right now is in 30 inch displays and they are nearly all 16:10 aspect ratio at 2560x1600. Seems it's not possible to make a single show which will suit all expectations.... I think 3:2 works best for me on the 16:10 because there is only about an inch of black on either side horizontally and the vertical aspect is filled. Best regards, Lin
-
LOL - it's not "your eyes" which are failing, I think it's mine!!!. I simply didn't see 3:2 so used 4:3 instead. I'll have to play with 3:2 and see what it looks like on the 16:10 display!!! Thanks for pointing that out! Best regards, Lin

Hi Barry, Unfortunately, an SSD wasn't an option so I would have to add it later, but the boot up on the small partition on the 7200 rpm drive is very fast compared to my old Win XP system. I'm still sorting out Windows 8.1 and trying to learn the easy ways to get it set up in some logical fashion. I found that it does indeed have a dos prompt so I'm happy about that! It takes me about 45 seconds including entering my password to get full boot so not as fast as the SSD but still within reason. Best regards, Lin
