Hi All I take my shows on the W.I. circuit for Charity and need to replace my sound system. I am looking for something that can handle an audience of say 80 but is compact in one box with its own amplifier and will connect to my Lap top via the Headphone Socket. Does anybody have any recommendations for UK purchase? Thanks Mike Reed

Two New Tutorials on PTE and Sound Posted
Mike Reed replied to Lin Evans's topic in General Discussion
Hi LIn I eventually managed to download PZR for smarties. Got the sound but no picture so downloaded the freeware you suggested as well but still have the same problem as Fh1805> Not sure how I find the video to make it run in the Vlc software. Your file seems to want to open in Windows media player. Any Ideas? Mike -
PTE Made Easy tutorials - Continuously Updated
Mike Reed replied to Lin Evans's topic in Tutorials & Video Lessons
Hi Lin What a great idea. The only problem out here in the sticks is that my download speed is so slow (even though I pay for 8megs) that your videos take for ever to come through. Any chance they could be zipped? Mike -
Igor I think I might have solved the problem. I discovered that the group of images in the fast section were all 4288 x 2848 pixels rather than my normal 1024 x 685. Having resized them it now appears flicker free. I ran the two demo sequences without any problem so I guess I was asking the computer just to do too much in the time available. What is your opinion or should I still download new drivers and Direct x? Mike
-
Igor I have posted a reply with more information. Where do I send the zipped file? Do you want it as an EXE file or as a template so you can see my dissolve timings? By the way I tried it out on 5.1 and it did the same thing. At themoment it requires a narration so is just pictures and music. Mike

Thanks everybody for your advice. I really don't think it can be the graphics card in the PC (DEll Precision T5400 with 3.5GB of Ram) with an Nvidia Dual Head Quadro NVS290 graphics card with 256Mb of memory. The viewing monitor is an Iiyama with a response time of 2ms maximum. The chip set is an Intel Xeon running at 2.5Ghz with XP service pack 2. Hardware acceleration is turned on. I tried the curser dragging exercise and there was no tail at all. Igor I will zip the file to which address shall I sent it?

Hi All Is anybody experiencing flicker on fast transitions with v5.5. I am using XP on a fast computer with maximum Ram. I have a section of a sequence with about 14 slides all with a quarter second dissolve and it is flicking. Any ideas as I have not experienced this with earlier versions. It does not do it when viewing from the time line only when I go to a full screen preview Mike
-
Ok for the benefit of others I've discovered that you cannot do it on the fly in the time line. Just go back to the slide view and drag the image in then, return to the time line.
-
I've hit a problem In trying to add a slide at a specific point on the time line PTE v 5.5 puts the new slide at the end of my show not where I have set the blue arrow on the time line. I have tried the new transition button which adds a transition but not the new slide I wish to add. Have also tried to add from the full file view screen but this does not seem to work either. Any ideas or am I missing something fundamental. Mike

Hi Igor and the team. Let me just join in all the praise for version 5.5. Can PTE get any better? Mike
-
Hi Bruno Check to see which edition of PTE you have. 5.1 did not show the transitions in the small viewing window you have to go to Preview at full screen to see them. The new version 5.5 shows them in real time. Sorry this is not in French. Mike

The problem still persists when using v5.1 so I have reloaded v4.9 and saved in a separate file. I therefore use this to run the menu without a hitch and it is far less time consuming. Mike

Hi Igor I found that the original Video builder would not write +r disks but was happy with -r. Having downloaded the new version from this forum it is now happy with either type. It is interesting that the burn on a -r seems to be much more than on the +r. Mike Reed

Hi Ron I have sent by separate e-mail the zip file. I am using XP pro. The problem only seems to have arisen since downloading V5.1 Thanks for your offer of help. Mike
-
Ron This is of interest to me. I have always run from a one page menu and up to the introduction of v5.1 have never experienced any problems. However now that one has to establish the buttons through the objects and animation window problems have arisen where on clicking a button, instead of running the show, it reverts to the desk top. Doesn't do it every time but often enough to make us look very non professional. It means I have had to start sitting alongside the projector so as to cover the lens so that the audience do not see me sorting through all the files to select the next to be shown. My lap top is a HP Pavillion 5094 which has never done this before. Mike

Lin I have now heard from Alena and all is well. great relief all round. Mike

Thanks Lin Yes I have both unzipped Reg files> The one for video builder opens Ok but that for PTE is corrupted I think, as it does not seem to want to open.

Hi All Have just acquired a new computer and am having trouble in registering PTE. Have sent messages with e-mail address etc via the support facility but as yet still un- answered. I have PTE v5.1 de-lux and have found the unzipped PTE Reg file which I transferref from the old machine and whilst it says "Congratulations Registered", PTE is still in the unlicensed form. I am desperately trying to finish a show for Wednesday. All very frustrating any ideas? Mike
-
Yes Peter, however I discovered that the box in the Common tab where you search for the programme file did not always allow a search facility so I reloaded PTE 5.1 and that seems to have resolved that problem. I used to run the menu from the Preview button but having spoken to a colleague have tried turning the menu into an Exe file and it seems to work from there. It just means that I shall have to keep binning the exe files, as I make a new menu every time I do a show.

Hi All When I do a show I use a wallpaper image on which I superimpose buttons which are programmed to run the show from the file wherever it is stored. This has always worked well up to v5 Betas however now that I have v5.1 clicking on a button just returns me to my desktop. I have checked that the instructions in the common tab of the objects and animation window are correct. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? Mike

My new camera offers resolutions of 4288x2848 down to 2144x1424. Up to now I have always saved my PTE images at 1024x768. I cannot get my head around which will be the best resolution to save at bearing in mind that my projector is XGA without loosing too much detail. I am trying to cover the possibilty of High Resolution wide screen television use in the future.

Thank you Lin and all the others who replied. You all really confirmed what I had been lead to believe, that for now don't go near Vista. Mike
