Personal attacks - on anybody - are not allowed on this or on any other forum. As far as I can recall, I have never taken a shot at anyone on this forum. Ron, I have witnessed something similar once before on my Vista system. It occured when there was a lot of background activity going on: anti-virus update followed by Windows update. I put it down to an excessive demand for resources coming from several products at once. I've never come across this problem since that one occasion. Has you friend tried watching the total workload using Windows task manager (or whatever it's called on Win7)? That will show if there is anything "unseen" at work. regards, Peter

No, I'm saying that they should be aware that somebody, somewhere owns the copyright to those images. The user of such images should take whatever steps are appropriate to obtain any clearances that they may require. And should then give credit for them (as you rightly indicated in your reply. The old photos were either scans of old postcards from my postcard collection or were images originally taken by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe. The copyright of the Sutcliffe images is held by Whitby Literary & Philosophical Society and are held at Whitby Museum (which is owned by that society). They get their credit via the mention of Whitby Museum in the scrolling credits - as agreed with them. I own the copyright to the assemblage of the material into the AV sequence. And that copyright will last until 70 years after my death under current UK legislation. And the vast majority, possibly all, of those copies will have violated copyright law! The original poster was querying whether it was "OK" to use images taken from the web. Your initial response implied that it was. I my initial reply I was pointing out that it isn't that simple. As in all the creative arts, there is the very complex issue of "copyright" to take into account. regards, Peter (far from perfect - and don't I know it!)

Sorry Ken, I have to disagree with you. Your reply could be interpreted as "if it is published on the web it's free of copyright" and that just isn't true. Images are protected by copyright just the same as music, paintings, sculpture, literature, etc. Yes, there are images available on the web where the copyright owner has granted copyright clearance: usually on a not-for-profit basis. But the vast majority of images are still under copyright. The only safe action is to use only your own images. If you want to use web-sourced images then you need to ascertain the status of the copyright on those images. regards, Peter

I believe the PTE feature that supports dual-monitors might offer you a solution but I have no experience of this feature. Searching the forum databse for "dual monitor" might locate some previous discussions on this subject. regards, Peter

Don, How did you rip this problem WAV file - via Windows Media Player? I've noticed that any files that I rip from CD using WMP always show the correct size and time in Windows Explorer and play successfully in WMP but show zero duration when used in PTE and remain silent in that program. I, too, have to open and re-save them in my audio editor program before PTE will play them. regards, Peter

I'm sorry that you haven't received your registration key e-mail from WnSoft. But I also feel that you set yourself a totally unrealistic target by leaving your purchase decision until less than 72 hours before an important deadline. Have you considered asking one of your local camera club members if they would let you use their system to build your presentation? regards, Peter

The problem with having the blue arrow positioned at the start of the slides transition is that, at that point, the slide is not visible. So the thumbnail and the miniplayer would both show the previous slide. I suspect that this could be very confusing for new users. I'm not sure that there is an easy answer to this. regards, Peter

Gary, The selection of a block of slides works just as easily if you select the last slide first (Left click) and then come forward along the timeline and select the first slide in the block last (Shift+Left Click). And now you are positioned where you want to be to drag the entire selection to its new start point. regards, Peter -
And the name of the slide can be found, and changed if desired, in the Customize Slide|Main tab. Changing this name does not change the file name under which the image is stored on your storage device. regards, Peter

Can I uninstall earlier versions of PTE

Joy, Yes, you can if you wish. Older PTE project files can be opened in a newer version - but not vice versa! But, apart from taking up some space on the disk drive, it does no harm to leave them co-existing with one another. The choice is yours. regards, Peter -
The addition of sound via Customize Slide|Music tab requires the setting of specific flag values in other parts of the Project Options. Have a look at JEB's tutorial in the Tutorials part of the forum. He has covered all the different aspects of 6.5 sound very thoroughly. regards, Peter

Gary, You've now grasped the essence of this technique. Two layers of map, the upper layer having the route carefully erased in Photoshop. And then slip your coloured layer in between and animate the coloured layer. That animation can be either straightforward - on a reasonably straight route, or very complex on a highly convoluted route. And circular routes can be a real pain! regards, Peter

Gary, That's a good one! I don't know whether this would be possible in the programming but two possible solution scenarios would be: - if the Nav Bar has been activated, force the left and mouse keys to have value "None" (this, to me, seems harsh treatment) - if the Nav Bar has been activated and the mouse is clicked whilst hovering over a Nav Bar button, do the Nav Bar button action; but if the mouse is hovering over any other part of the image area, do the action from the mouse button definition (this, to me, would be a more flexible solution; although perhaps prone to user confusion) regards, Peter

Keys are not supplied in the download because users may simply be trialling the product before deciding whether to buy or not. The key is sent out via e-mail after the purchase has been made. The key distribution technology changed a few days ago. Please confirm which version of PTE you have by launching the software and doing Help|About PicturesToExe... regards, Peter

Hi George, I come to this a little in arrears: you are already at version 3. I'm assuming that this sequence is in the nature of being a technical exercise in animating clouds in a realistic looking manner. My first comment is about the direction of movement in general terms. I think this sequence might work better if all four slides moved in the same general direction: either all four left to right or all four right to left. I believe this would give a more harmonious feel to the sequence. I also suspect that introducing just a very small amount of rotation would might also improve the feeling of natural movement. The motion of air masses is rarely straight line: it is usually somewhat circular (cyclonic and anti-cyclonic, were the words the weathermen used to use). Now turning my attention to each of the four slides: I agree with David P when he states that Slide 3 is spot on. And I also agree that slide 4 is much too fast, especially when compared to the other three and bearing in mind that the tempo of the music hasn't changed. Slide 1's speed is OK but I think David P's suggestion of a change of direction is a good one. Slide 2 is, for me, much too fast. This kind of sky, in my experience, moves incredibly slowly and I think your animation would benefit from a radical reduction in speed. One final observation about slide 4: the colour of the sky, to me, does not sit well with the lighting on the foreground landscape. Whatever you do, remember that this is your sequence. My suggestions would turn it into my sequence using your images. regards, Peter

Gary, That's the theory but I don't think it has ever worked. You can set your preferred aound editor (as you have discovered and done) but there is no way, that I know of, of getting into the sound editor from a particular sound item in your sequence. regards, Peter -
Dave, But each slide is partly visible after the 6 second mark. Strictly speaking (i.e. in terms of computer logic rather than human logic) it is partly visible right up to the end of the transition into the following slide. In reality it is partly visible to the human eye for at least 50% of the transition time. But I agree, if you assign a keyframe to the end of the last slide then, when you add a following slide, that keyframe should stay where you put it. regards, Peter

We're just using different phrases for the same thing. Consider a sequence with just two slides both with a 6 second duration and a transition of 1 second. My definitions would work out as follows: Slide 1 - Start of Slide (= start of in-bound transition) = 0 seconds Slide 1 - End of in-bound transition = +1 second Slide 1 - Start of out-bound transition = +6 seconds Slide 1 - End of slide (= end of out-bound transition) = +7 seconds Slide 2 - Start of Slide (= start of in-bound transition) = +6 seconds Slide 2 - End of in-bound transition = +7 seconds Slide 2 - Start of out-bound transition = +12 seconds Slide 2 - End of slide (= end of out-bound transition) = +12 seconds - because there is no following slide If I am thinking about slide x then in-bound is the transition from slide x-1 to slide x and out-bound is the transition from slide x to slide x+1.
