I know that I can create an EXE file to run as a continuous loop. Is it possible to create a video stream that will run as a continuous loop? If so, can it be done with PTE? If so, how? regards, Peter (PTE expert - video dummy!)

Ray, I know from my own experience that I can always learn something new and useful from another experienced practitioner. From that perspective I would be interested. Also, I think such a write-up being published late this year or early next could prove quite timely if the next PTE version was to include support for video clips - but we'll have to wait for the next beta programme to find out. However, your use of the word "workflow" concerns me. A workflow that was right for you and your project would not necessarily be the right workflow for me and one of my projects. Indeed, I do not have a standard workflow that I use for all my projects. I have a modular workflow in which the modules could occur in different orders for different sequences. For example: if I was producing a documentary sequence I would have a workflow that started with research, moved into storyboard and from their into production. But if the sequence was illustrating the mood of a piece of music, I might jump straight into production if I felt that I had all the images I needed. For me, a workflow for AV sequences is a case of "horses for courses". I'm not trying to put you off writing your essay; if anything, I'm trying to set the expectations of the wider fraternity of less-experienced PTE users. A workflow that was the right one for you may not be suitable for them. regards, Peter P.S. I'm also sending you a P.M.

Igor, A very big "Thank you" and a massive "Well done!" to you and everybody at WnSoft. This program just gets better and better. regards, Peter

Eleanor, PTE does not support the inclusion of video clips in its current release. This sometimes vexed subject of video clips is very firmly on the wish list of many users and is likely to be addressed in a future release of PTE. regards, Peter

An alternative solution is to use two frames: place all the objects you do not want to move as children of one of the frames and all the objects that you do want to move on the other - and then add the animation keyframes to the second frame object rather than the individual objects. regards, Peter

Igor, Thanks. Now I know what is happening I can change my technique of dealing with a new version of PTE until you, hopefully, produce a work-around in PTE. regards, Peter

Ron, Played OK with VLC on my system. Music started part way through first big cat image: is this how it should be? regards, Peter

Igor, The version of the apr.ini file in the folder "C:\ProgramData\PicturesToExe\Versions\6.5 Beta 13" has a last modified date of 23/07/2010 and has the contents that I previously sent you - old and out of date. There is a version of the apr.ini file in the folder C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\PicturesToExe\Versions\6.5 Beta 13 which has a modified date of 02/08/2010 and reflects the current state of my recent use of PTE 6.5 beta 13. I think you might have looked for and placed the PTE ini files in the wrong place on a Vista system. regards, Peter

Igor, What, if anything, do you want me to do next to help get to the bottom of this? regards, Peter

What kind of sound file are you using - WAV or MP3? What duration does the sound file show in the Project Options|Music tab? regards, Peter

No problems encountered using PTE 6.5 beta 15 on my Windows Vista system. regards, Peter

Ron, Would it be worthwhile to place a link to this topic into the PTE beta topic? regards, Peter
-
Ron, Does this post help you at all? I found it by searching this forum for "access violation" (without the quotes). regards Peter

Gary, Nice to know that they really do exist! On my Vista system there's a green background to the Search title area that progresses across the screen as the search runs. Perhaps W7 works in a similar manner. regards, Peter

Barry, All I do is position the mouse pointer over the desired part of the field and click. This highlights those few digits ready for me to key my value with the keyboard. I don't do any dragging. Does this not work the same off the tablet? regards, Peter

Gary, When you ran the search for apr.ini did you turn on the checking for system and hidden files and folders. Almost all .ini files are system files and are usually given hidden attributes and often also placed in folders that have been given hidden attributes too. You will have at least one apr.ini, trust me - and Igor! regards, Peter

Igor, I have followed your instructions and Uninstalled/re-installed beta 15. Just for your information, my install technique is to simply open the zip file after it has downloaded and then run the install program. I do NOT extract the zip file contents before running the install. I don't know whether that might be significant or not. The two apr.ini files are attached in the zip file. regards, Peter PTE-APR-Files.zip

Igor, I'll be pleased to help diagnose the problem. I haven't followed your instructions yet but I have run a Windows Search for apr.ini files. Can you confirm the identify of the folders that you want me to look in from the attached screenshot? regards Peter

Igor, I'm still not convinced that PTE is picking up settings from previous version correctly. I've just installed beta 15. During install I told it to take the settings from beta 13. The last project that I opened in beta 13 was called AHL-Plantation. The first project that beta 15 tried to open was called "Snakestones 2v8". Also, in beta 13, File...Templates...Manage Templates has Default template for new projects ticked. After installing as described, in beta 15 this box is unticked. regards, Peter

Better name for "Low quality of resizing" option
fh1805 replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
Having now watched Igor's demo, it seems to me that the purpose of this option is to provide an alternative control of sharpness during animation. So, as a suggested name for it: Alternative sharpness for animation. A different way of providing the control and the information would be to make two interconnected radio buttons (only one allowed at any time): button 1 - Sharpness for animation option 1 button 2 - Sharpness for animation option 2 and possibly add a ? button (help) that ran the demo exe file but with the two halves labelled Sharpness option 1 and Sharpness option 2 regards, Peter -
Better name for "Low quality of resizing" option
fh1805 replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
Igor, Whilst that might be technically accurate, it is, in my opinion, too technical for the vast majority of users. My understanding of "nearest neighbour" would be the families who live in the houses each side of mine. In what part of PTE's processing does this option, if ticked, take effect? I am not concerned to know how (technically) it affects my work with PTE but I would like to know when it is going to affect my work with PTE. If I might make an analogy with another option on the Properties tab: I don't know what mip-mapping does technically, but I do know that its usage during animation can eliminate unwanted shimmer. The description of this feature as "Anti-shimmering (mip-mapping)" tells me both what it does and how it does it. For the user, I believe the "what" is more important than the "how". So, this option that we are discussing in this thread might use "nearest neighbour" techniques/technology (that is the "how") - but "what" does it actually do? "What" is the benefit to the user of using this option? regards, Peter -
Better name for "Low quality of resizing" option
fh1805 replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
Barry (and all other readers of this topic), Here is what Jeff Evans and Lin Evans had to say about this option in their User Guide for v5.0 of PTE. "Low quality of resizing is a feature which is useful if you are finding small white troublesome lines above or below your image during transitions. The "low quality of resizing" is actually more accurately called "nearest neighbor" resizing. It isn't so much "low quality" as it is "imprecise" resizing. Since it stops at the pixel level rather than the sub pixel level of accuracy this line is eliminated in some cases. For most this feature need not be used." I, like Barry, have never used this option but would interpret that explanation as possibly meaning that this controls the technique used by PTE when it is forced to downsize an image e.g. when the user is using JPEG files of say 3000x2000 pixels running on a monitor of say 1280x1024. regards, Peter. -
Further to my last post, I have found another small bug in this area of copying forward settings from the previous version. I had set up beta 13 to use a template file called "My Template" as the default for all new projects. When I checked beta 14 immediately after doing the install based on beta 13, I found that the My Template file was recognised but that the tick box to make it my default template was still unticked. This now leaves me wondering whether any of the function to copy settings during install is actually working at all. regards, Peter

Dave, I've just deleted betas 1-9 and then downloaded beta 14 and installed it. The version it offered me to base itself on was beta 13. However, it then proceeded to open a sequence which was not the last sequence worked on in beta 13. So all is still not as one might expect. regards, Peter

Gary, You are tying to asses the quality of a Displayed image by using the attributes of a Printed image. The dimensions in inches that you are seeing from Photoshop are the maximum size that Photoshop is recommending you print your image at. When tryimg to assess the visual quality of a displayed image the numbers that matter are the dimensions in pixels (e.g 1024x768, 1920x1080 or whatever). After this, the other value of any significance is the level of JPEG compression. I don't know whether States-side you have the saying about comparing apples and oranges. If you do, then you are trying to assess the quality of "apples" by using a standard that is only appropriate for "oranges" regards, Peter
