Scorpion, Just curious, but what prompted you to build this test sequence? regards, Peter

The first Great Yorkshire AV Day of 2010 takes place on Sunday 21st February at the National Media Museum, Bradford. More details can be found on this page from the Leeds A-V Group's website. regards, Peter

Jim, Version 5.5 pre-dates Windows 7 by some considerable distance. I would doubt whether it would work and there would almost certainly be little or no support for bug fixes given that it was superceded first by version 5.6 and then by version 6. In my extremely humble opinion, you would be better off reverting your operating system to an earlier version. Windows 7 is, again in my extremely humble opinion, far too new to be worth using yet. I would always try and wait at least 6 months after release, and preferably until after the first Service Pack before touching a new operating system; especially an operating system from a company whose track record for "get it right first time" is as close to zero as one can get. regards, Peter

Are you aware that this function is already available via Ctrl+F11 and Ctrl+F12? regards, Peter

Eric, He can't; it's greyed out!!!! regards, Peter

Dom, The edge face of the box still shows "Out of Bonds" regards, Peter

Jose, If you used PTE to do "File...Create backup in Zip" on your old PC and put the zip file on a CD or USB stick and then Extracted the contents of the zip to a folder on your new PC, that should have worked. Is this what you did? Or did you use some other software to build the Zip file? If you are confident enough to try it, this might work for you: Use Windows Explorer to copy the PTE project file Rename the copy to, for example: Project2.txt Use a text editor to edit Project2.txt file, doing a global change of "I:pathname" to "C:pathname" File Save As to another newname, for example: Project3.txt Rename Project3.txt to Project3.pte Open Project3.pte and see if that has solved the problem. regards Peter

Dom, I second Lin's comments. Having tried to participate on Diapositif.net forum in the French language, I know how difficult it is to write in a foreign language. I am truly impressed by the quality of English from all those users for whom English is a second or even third language. regards, Peter

Gary, Good news! It's a bug. I can re-create it on my Vista system building a sequence from scratch. Now, that's not entirely good news for you! But it does mean you can stop banging your head against the brickwall. All I did was create a three slide sequence: black slide, image, black slide. I then added a couple of text items to the image. Then I copied and pasted the image to give a duplicate copy of it as slide 3. Finally I added a keyframe to slide 3 and programmed a zoom. When viewing in O&A and switching between slide 2 and slide 3 I can see the text "twitch" - and it shouldn't. The origin conditions on slides 2 and 3 are identical. I'll draw Igor's attention to this bug report. regards, Peter

Gary, I didn't take note of your comment about seeing the effect in the mini-viewer. When I play it through the mini-viewer I do see the problem. When I play it through Preview I can hardly spot the problem - but it is there...Just! On my Vista system I do not see the name of the font that you have used. So I am presuming it is a font that is part of Windows 7 but not part of Vista. Could this be where the problem lies? Is there something about that font or even all Windows 7 fonts, that is not being handled properly (either by Windows or by PTE v6)? Using your wife's XP machine, try deleting the text from your sample file and then adding it using an XP font. Do you still see the problem on her machine? Do you still see the problem when you take that project file over to your Windows7 machine? regards, Peter

Gary, A further thought... Why are you using two slides: one static and the other zooming? Why not use just the one slide? Set that slide to have a duration equal to the sum of the two slides. Leave the origin (offset = 0 ms) keyframes alone and add two more keyframes to give the start of zoom and end of zoom positions and values. regards, Peter

NatureMan, There is no way of doing what you want in PTE itself. But one of the forum members (nobeefstu) has created a utility program that will do that kind of thing. See here: http://www.beechbrook.com/pte/downloadfile.asp?id=1689. regards, Peter

Gary, I've just downloaded and checked your sequence. It behaves perfectly on my system. Have you downloaded and checked your own attachment? The only suggestion I can make is that perhaps you have more than one version of this project on your system and you are not opening the version that you think you are. regards, Peter

Laszlo, What were the filenames of the two trouble-makers? regards, Peter

Andrew, For rotation control, that slider is worse than useless (except to remind you which way is positive and which way is negative). I always key the number of degrees of rotation in the input field. As I recall, positive values give clockwise motion and negative values give anti-clockwise - or is it the other way round? regards, Peter

Andrew, If you build a short sequence of just a handful of slides and then set the slide duration to 3 seconds and the effect duration to 3 seconds also, you will then see for yourself what the outcome is. If you choose the simple Fade effect you will get a constantly "changing" image that never is absolutely frozen on one particular slide. If the accompanying music is soft and dreamy in its mood and the images match the mood, this technique of having the slide duration and effect duration exactly the same is one of my favourites. regards, Peter

Peter, Lin Evans is our master at snow animation. You could try his website: www.learntomakeslideshows.net regards, Peter

Jerry, Perhaps I haven't made myself absolutely clear. Using Auto-spread, the slide timings in the Timeline view will NEVER change. This option takes effect only when you Preview or Create. It never shows the revised values in the Timeline display. The Timeline display will ALWAYS show the values that you have set yourself (manually or via Project Options). The "Arrange all points" option does show the new time values in the Timeline display. regards, Peter
-
Jerry, The "Auto-spread" option is not intended to make permanent changes to your PTE file. Tick that box, then Create the exe file (or Preview it) and you will find that the slides are spread out evenly. If you want the even time intervals to be applied to your project file, go into the Timeline view and click the Timed Points button and then click on Arrange all points. This will spread the points out evenly and apply this change to the PTE file. To get precise "on the beat" changes throughout the sequence you will probably still need to do some manual re-positioning. regards, Peter

e.b. Sorry, can't help you with the DVD problem. Both my PCs use Vista - and as they ain't broke, I have no intention of trying to fix them by upgrading to Windows 7. regards, Peter

e.b. Have you read the FAQs on the subject of sound? regards, Peter

To transfer a PTE sequence from one computer to another, so that you can work on it on the second PC, you should use "File...Create Backup in Zip". Then copy the zip to the USB memory stick, and finally extract the zip contents to a new folder on the second PC. regards, Peter

Danny, Panic not, we will arrive at a workable solution eventually. Can I suggest that you take the sequence that you built using nobeefstu's suggestion (i.e just the first 63 images and the first piece of music). Give each image the 4 seconds default duration but ensure that in Project Options...Main tab you have ticked "Auto spread slides along music". Note: if you look at the timeline things might still seem wrong but run a Preview of the sequence. It should, I think, fit the slides evenly spaced out to fill the music track. If this works, build the other three sequences similarly. Then we can help you join the four sequences together in a continuous chain. regards, Peter
-
Danny, Now that I understand better what you are trying to do I would suggest you add the music as I've indicated and then try synchronizing each piece using the technique that Ray Groome has described. regards, Peter
