  1. TJR, Since becoming an active member of this forum in 2007 I have seen no references at all by any member to any deliberate attempt (successful or otherwise) to corrupt any exe file created by PTE. The truth is that the forum members do not "circulate" their PTE sequences. They upload them to either their own web servers (as is the case with the likes of Lin Evans, Barry Beckham and TheDom) or to servers operated by reputable File Hosting Service companies such as MediaFire. Other individuals (such as myself) can then download a copy of the sequence from the server using the details that have been posted here on the forum. The use of exe files for AV sequences is eminently sensible as it then requires no special software to run the sequence on another computer. We are each responsible for protecting our own PCs from harmful influences. Provided that sensible precautions are taken (e.g. a router, a firewall, anti-virus and anti-malware software) and provided that they are used in an appropriate manner, being Internet connected is, to my mind, one of the least hazardous things that I do. I've been Internet connected since the late 1990s and have, touch wood, never had any malicious infection of any kind on any PC that I have owned. And I know of only two instances amongst my family and friends of malicious infection - both caused by the unsound practice of opening attachments on unsolicited e-mails. regards, Peter
  2. If the mono track is just a part of the total audio stream then I would suggest using a sound editor program (such as Audacity) to bring all the audio items together and then export the lot as a stereo mp3 or wav file. Assign this file via Project Options...Music and remove all the other audio items from the project. regards, Peter
  3. Hi Photodiva, I go along with Yachtsman1's suggestion as to the next course of action: Open the project in PTE v5.0 and do a File Save As (taking great care to note which folder it is being saved into) Then do Create...Create As and give the exe file a new name (and again note carefully where it is being saved) Then, if you have to, Cancel out of the dialogue box Finally use Windows Explorer to check whether or not the exe file was created under the expected name in the expected folder. I suspect that some other software upgrade (perhaps a Windows upgrade) or some well-intentioned registry cleaning has corrupted something somewhere. The solution may be as simple as an uninstall/re-install. Do you still have the download zip file and the registry key file? regards, Peter
  4. I was hoping one of our Windows 7 users would have picked this one up. I have no experience of Windows 7 at all but, so far as I know, the registration key installation process is the same on all releases of Windows. I've not seen any of the early Windows 7 users post any warnings that it isn't, so I am assuming that it is! regards, Peter
  5. I've also been following this thread with interest. I have a question (just curiosity on my part): Severn Bore, why did you decide to upgrade to Windows 7? Was your Vista system not working properly? I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and am just wondering whether your Vista system was, to your mind, "broke" in some way. regards, Peter
  6. Hi Photodiva, Firstly, v5.0 is quite an old version. The latest version (6.0) was released recently. You might want to take a look at that at some point. The sequence of events for Create under 5.0 is usually as follows: - you click the Create button or select Create...Create As... from the command bar - you get a standard Windows File Save dialogue window - using that you navigate to the folder where you want the exe file to be saved - in the same window you give the exe file the name that you want - in the same window you click on the Save button - after a few seconds (during which time the display in the Info bar at the bottom of the PTE window shows the % progress of the Create activity) the File Save dialogue window closes - job done! At what point do things start going wrong for you? And what exactly do you see at that point? (A screengrab would help us to understand the precise symptoms of your problem) regards, Peter
  7. Jimmy, I use ScreenHunter Pro v5 to do screen captures. It is freeware. regards, Peter
  8. Dave, Thanks for that correction. I'd overlooked the point that he was going to be stepping via a DVD. The aspect ratio discussion remains valid but not the actual pixel resolution discussion. regards, Peter
  9. Eric, Audacity also has a very active and helpful forum, as you well know having used it yourself. I don't believe that this forum (the entire PTE forum) should ever attempt to replace existing active forums on specialist topics. Discussion about using other software in the context of creating an AV sequence is fine. Raising a subject which might turn out to be a bug in a beta level product should, more properly, be addressed to the appropriate forum for that software product. That's my opinion for what it might be worth (not very much, usually!) I didn't intend to offend anyone. Obviously I've inadvertently offended you (even if only slightly); for that I apologise. regards, Peter
  10. Freddy, If your intended ultimate output destination is a 16:9 TV why are considering setting 16:10 in PTE? PTE supports 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, what is the native resolution of the TV (in pixels by pixels)? Whatever it is, that is the size that you should make your image files using image editing software such as Photoshop or functional equivalent. regards, Peter
  11. Gary, This isn't intended to be an Audacity forum but I have just tried Home and End keys on both an Imported MP3 and on an Opened Audacity project file and they work fine for me; as do the Left/Right cursor keys. regards, Peter P.S. In all cases these were the keys off the main keyboard and NOT off the numeric keypad; and off a fullsize desktop system keyboard and NOT off a laptop keyboard.
  12. Eric, In order to ensure that Igor spots this discussion, I suggest that you post a bug report into the PTE v6 topic that links to this topic. regards, Peter
  13. Eric, It seems to me that the fuzziness occurs because of having Copied & Pasted the text from your text editor software (presumably Microsoft Word). When I copy that same text from Word and then paste it as the text of an independent text object on a plain black slide, it comes in at a Zoom value of 2790% and looks fuzzy. If I then set the zoom to 400% it looks a whole lot better. The root cause of the problem is likely to be buried in the way that PTE is trying to interpret the MS Word data encoding on the Windows clipboard. (That is a helluva lot of text and I suppose the sheer amount could be part of the problem). I have no idea whether this is a "bug" in PTE or whether you have taken PTE beyond the edge of its design. Either way, I suspect that the only person who can give a definitive answer is Igor. However, if either nobeefstu or Conflow see this post they may be able to offer a more informed technical assessment than I can. regards, Peter
  14. When working with a large number of objects, with complex parent-child relationships, it would be a major time-saver if the state of collapse/expand of the object list on each slide was remembered by PTE. When I move from one slide to the next, I find it very frustrating and time-consuming to have to scroll to the top of the object list and impose the same state of collapse/expand that I had just left on the previous slide. If this feature is implemented, perhaps there should be a new "Options" value somewhere that allows the user to decide whether the collapse state is remembered or whether (as happens now) a fully-expanded list is presented. regards, Peter
  15. Eric, This was the item I had in mind. Sorry I didn't have time to dig it out earlier. I had to go and give a Famiy History course to members of my local U3A group. regards, Peter
  16. I seem to recall this issue of fuzzy text being raised during the v5.7/v6 beta programme. Perhaps a search might reveal those posts? I think the problem was raised by Gary (goddi) if I remember correctly. regards, Peter
  17. Would all potential users please be aware that after releasing the program publicly the testing team have become aware of a problem that seems to be caused by ripping WAV files from CD using Windows Media Player on Windows Vista and subsequent to the install of Service Pack 2 to that operating system. This problem is under active investigation. At this point in time we are unable to give any indication as to when a fix might be available. The problem manifests itself by assigning a zero duration to such WAV files. regards, Peter
  18. Eric, Is the problem resolved by PTE v6.0? There is very little point reporting problems against PTE versions which have been superceded. I would have thought that Igor and his team are unlikely to issue an update to a back-level version of PTE. regards, Peter
  19. Jeff, The Audacity 1.3.9 beta User Guide is more forthcoming. I haven't tried this in v1.2 so I don't whether it behaves the same or not. Start by selecting the multi-tool option then: hover the mouse over the blue "envelope" lines and the pointer should change to the double white arrow heads hover the mouse over any other part of the soundtrack and the Insertion point cursor should appear hover the mouse over the textured vertical bar at each end of the track and the timeshift double-ended arrow should appear The first two behave pretty much as you would expect. The last isn't so obvious. With the double-ended arrow visible, do a left-click drag to move the selection. Do NOT try and position the pointer over the item to be moved. This means that you can only move the track away from the end where you click. To my mind, a better implementation would have been for the selection tool to work only on the inner band (nearest to the actual wave form) and the timeshift to have worked in the outer band, with the envelope working only on the outermost blue line. regards, Peter
  20. I'm all cubed out! Sick of the sight of the little devils!!!! regards, Peter
  21. This has been the way of working of PTE for many years. The same problem occurs if you add a slide. The "Go to" values are not re-calculated in this case either. I have, on more than one occasion, asked Igor to make some appropriate changes but, so far, without success. At one point he and I discussed the possibility of being able to assign a label to each slide and to have an option to "Go to Label xx". I feel that this would be a preferable solution as it would not require the PTE project file to be re-calculated every time a slide is deleted or added. All we can do is wait and see if anything happens in the next release. regards, Peter
  22. And for those who feel ready to move on to the next level after DUMMY, there is the Audacity User Guide for AV Workers that I posted on the forum a couple of years ago. regards, Peter
  23. Eric, You're thinking of the "File Associations" issue. Only one version of PTE can carry the default file association in Windows (i.e. the association with the file extension .pte). So double-clicking on a PTE project file will always open the project into that particular release of PTE. regards, Peter
  24. Cor, I have to disagree with you on editing the sound file within PTE. There is no facility to edit the image file in PTE (and I don't think anyone would really want this adding). I believe the same should apply to sound files (no editing within PTE, just manipulation of sound levels and placement). We'll have to "agree to disagree" on this! regards, Peter
  25. Dave, Download the document that Cor has prepared and read it. regards, Peter
