Gilbert, Can you provide a screen shot? What about these images when you open them with your image viewer (IrfanView or other program)? Best regards, Xaver H, Munich

Hi Brian, Never say never! Best regards, Xaver

Hello all, If there really should be a Basic Version it should be part of the actual software and not just a new name for old software without new development, and which is to be installed separately. In my opinion, the situation should remain as it. Maybe it is possible to reorganize the menu structure of PTE v.5 in a way that it helps inexperienced users to configure the program according to their needs, but with the possibility to upgrade their projects when having learned more. The drawback of any separation (basic, advanced, …) could be that configuration items which an advanced user would like to see in one menu will be split over two or more, not being an enhancement of usability. Igor, Let's wait for version 5.6! Best regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, as we do not know under which circumstances the bug will occur, it is difficult to argue on this subject. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Brian, I will not shoot the messenger, not even with words. Let me just remark that we now have at least two discussions in this thread, Igor's initial one on the image modes, and a second one on usability. There should be different lines of discussion. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Guido, It has been said several times: Nobody really wants tools like Photoshop or Audition to be part of PTE. But it would be very nice to have more audio tracks than just one, which could be mixed and controlled in volume. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, Regarding the proposed mode, having slides with fixed size, I agree with JPD that it would be nice to have the option for the 100% view of images, not to be enlarged. So, if the slide's size is 1200x800, and you insert an image of size 500x400, (as an option) it should not be blown up (to 1000x800) automatically, and then be reduced in size using the zoom function. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, In most cases this is true, but not when using Jean-Pierre's construction. Here all objects in a slide are set to original mode except one horizontal transparent stripe (called cale, French word for wedge) having fit to slide mode, and which is the father of all other objects. If the width of the transparent stripe does not match the width of the display, it will be resized, and all the children (in original mode) will follow to be resized, as well. This method seems to deliver very precise results as you can see in JPD's show "Dis la nostalgie" where the zooming image in the small window consists of 45 pieces. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, the problem of changing display resolution occurs (for example) in cases where some authors like Barry Beckham publish shows which run in a window of a fixed size (e.g. 1280x1024) and some people do not like to change their monitor settings and some even show angry reactions. Best regards, Xaver Munich

I agree! But the new feature as proposed by Igor just helps the author to program the show using a fixed resolution, but frees the viewer from changing the setting of his monitor. I would like to have this feature, and even better if it could be combined with the proposal of Barry Beckham on controlling the border (see post no. 9 above). Best regards, Xaver H. Munich

I think that the basic users are not the audience which is addressed by this thread. The real competitors (providing HW-rendering) in my opinion are m.objects and Wings Platinum, both highly priced, and the are by no means easier to handle. Xaver Huber Munich

Hi Peter, try the attached version. I deleted all entries in the slides starting with a "b" (bname, bcolor..., bsize). Best regards, Xaver Munich AHL3_StrollInSnow_mod.zip

Hello Peter, I made several attempts to reproduce the error which occurred in your pte-file, but I failed. Do you remember the steps how you constructed it (including save operations)? Best regards, Xaver Munich

Hello JPD, Knowing a little bit the way you program your shows, I can understand that you like the construction with the wedge (cale), as it forces the player to resample a slide in a single step. This will lead (for example) to better results if the slide is composed of adjacent pieces. I actually would be sorry it a new version of PTE would be incompatible with your former work. In your post above you try to give the impression that the wedge/cale construction were one of the most naturals things in the world. In my eyes, this is not the case. I rather consider it as a trick for specialists, but not as a typical method for the standard PTE user. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Hello Peter, I fear that there is a bug in PTE. Under particular circumstances it seems to happen that some slides still have the parameter "bname=Path_To_Background_Image" in the project file, although the corresponding box in the customize slide section has been unchecked. In your case it is the path to your old background which is not needed any longer. Best regards, Xaver Munich

Igor, I am very pleased to read this! Best regards, Xaver Munich

Question: What will happen to a slide of size 1200x800 when using a projector with 1024x768 pixels? Best regards, Xaver Munich
-
Igor, I would like to see this change. Do you think of an option to configure all slides in the way you propose (but also for the other choices) at the same time, via the project options? Another question (hopefully not too annoying): Will there be animated mask objects in the next version, and what about simulated full screen mode for users with ATI cards? Best regards, Xaver Munich

This will depend on who is included in the group of "all others"... Best regards, Xaver Munich

Barry, This is an attractive show, as any other of your publications I watched so far. Maybe that I would prefer a version in the style of "Another Age"? Best regards, Xaver Munich

Hi Tom, My impression is that version 1.3.5 (beta) of Audacity runs rather stable. Recently it has been recommended and presented by the best German PC magazine (c't). For an introduction to this software you may look at Peter's (fh1805) guide, see here! Best regards, Xaver Munich
-
Hello Dom, These are features which actually are provided by Audacity, as well. In addition to the features of version 1.2.6, the new version 1.3.5 (beta) also allows to place several audio files into one Audacity track and shift them individually. So, for mixing 10 audio pieces you no longer need to open 10 Audacity tracks. Best regards, Xaver Munich

I made a suggestion in this direction, see here. (In my former post I used the word "beamer" which should be replaced by "projector".) Best regards, Xaver Munich

In my understanding, a digital projector does not reject pixels. The projector typically receives a video signal with appropriate resolution and refresh rate and projects it. Best regards, Xaver Munich
