  1. I showed this Av to members of my camera club this evening and they were all most impressed. Many members thought it would make an excellent screensaver. The colours were vibrant and the music was a good match.
  2. Ken, I apologise, when I read your comment above I didn't understand what you meant, it was 3am and I was a bit brain dead ;-) Now I see what you mean, but no here wasn't any effect applied. It was raining and the river was also getting large drops from the trees. This accounts for the circles on the water. The Av has been updated to reflect the new slightly desaturated images. Thank you all for your feedback. Download latest version here
  3. canteau, thank you for taking the time to grab my photo and work on it as you have. It was kind and thoughtful and I must say that I find your version is much much better, sharper and with better contrast overall. I have now gone through each image and reduced the global saturation. The green's were too bright - a 'digital green' folk often say. However; it was raining and the trees and leaves were wet, and with a surprisingly bright (albeit grey) sky the back lit leaves can be rather bright. Again, thanks for your feedback and support.
  4. size probs, sorted. (I hope!) max height is now set to 1056 pix for viewing on HD, but should work on all. http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...s/tollymore.exe
  5. Thanks for the feedback. My new Pc is one of those all in one jobs. It is a Sony, but basically the monitor is a 24" laptop screen. (VGC-RT1SU). I have just found screen profiles that make things better. I think I will have to re do all the images again. Not a big prob. But thanks for the feedback.
  6. Thanks Davy. Just some 'nice' photos with some 'nice' music.
  7. Davy, just dl'd watched this new version. The recent changes are good. Well done.
  8. Hi Davy, Great show, sad yet thought provoking. What a waste of human life. They said it was the war to end all wars.
  9. Shimna River, Tollymore, Newcastle, Northern Ireland. A walk along the Shimna river is marked by many curiosities, natural and artificial – rocky outcrops, bridges, grottos and caves. Oak wood from Tollymore was the preferred material for the interiors of the White Star liners including the ‘Titanic’ which was built in Belfast. This a short (2 min) AV of photos taken along the river. Not intended for competition, although feedback would be welcome on the saturation, I am having problems with my monitor - I think. It looks too saturated on this monitor, but looked Ok when I did it at first on a laptop. Download here (24MB) http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...s/tollymore.exe
  10. Andrew, I have shown this to members of my camera club that they all were most impressed. Well Done!
  11. Davy, as you know i have seem some of the earlier versions of your Somme AV. At that time; I thought it good enough to show at the NI AV Festival, indeed I would have been most surprised if it didn't feature very well. So please let us see your latest version!
  12. John, your photos really do make me want to visit, thank you for showing us them.
  13. Not about grading or awarding points... I often show AV's that I find here (and to be honest, elsewhere) to members at my local camera club. In the past; I have found members here on this forum to be most generous with their knowledge, skills and experience - and I therefore often report back the feedback that I get from members at the CC - to the authors. At Bangor and North Down Camera Club we have an active AV (and award winning) membership. We meet twice a week, Fridays are normally part of the formal years programme and Wednesdays we do what we want. Over the Summer months, both Fridays and Wednesday are ours to do whatever we want to, and AV's always feature. So if you have an Av that you want detailed feedback on, please let me know. I can send you the feedback privately by email, or if you wish post it here on the forum - up to you. I assume you will want feedback here on the forum. Getting as many folk involved in your potential 'masterpiece' is undoubtedly the best approach. I have found, to my success, that the feedback from this forum is almost crucial. • Therefore; do we assume that everyone that posts their AV's here wants 'detailed' feedback? • Or are they simply looking for general feedback? • And what sort of feedback do they want? • Is it for sending to their grandma or grandchildren? • Or is it for competition AV work? • Should we be asking folk what sort of feedback they want? • Maybe we should ask members who the intended audience is? Because clearly the intended audience is most important. PTE is an excellent product. This is a wonderful forum. Almark Mark Allen: Bangor and North Down Camera Club
  14. Superb! Not my usual cup of tea of - 'nice' pics and 'nice' music. My advice is to turn the sound up and enjoy. I look forward to the Somme, although after hearing this one I will turn off the sub woofer in fear of a heart attack. Well done Davy
  15. Hi Andrew, I am kicking myself now for suggesting a mono version. I did honestly did not intend to get the debate side-tracked or suggest a re write ;-) I could have visited Auschwitz, but decided not to. I have seen enough horrors in Northern Ireland to do me a lifetime. I must tell you that I expected your show to be something similar to what DavyC produced - dark and disturbing. However; as we all know watching from afar, on TV or AV, is not the same as being there. Ask anyone who has seen the Grand Canyon on TV and then what they thought when they saw it in real life for the first time! But at Auschwitz YOU were there and I was not, and what you have produced, your masterpiece, is what it means to you and not me, or anyone else. Clearly; you have devoted much time and effort into the project, and you have taken on board the comments offered here. The comments are simply that, just 'information' for you to consider. And may I tell you that this forum does work. As a complete newcomer to AV I sought the advice and guidance from the forum for my first AV and after considerable input from members (many of whom have also responded here to your show) I was able to win a 1st. I could not have done it without the help and the generosity of members here. May I wish you the best for the competition. I often show AV's at my local camera club and then report back to the author the thoughts of the audience. I normally only do this for folk that I know, those who in the past have given me help, and those who I know will be more than happy to receive such feedback (only some of whom post their AVs here, BTW). So if you would like some more 'detailed' feedback, please let me know. (I can , of course send them privately by email). Mark Allen Chairman Bangor and North Down Camera Club
  16. Hi Dom Dom, I showed this Av to members of my camera club this evening and asked for their feedback. The consensus was that such an approach should just be used for the first and last image only. Of course you have to consider the audience, they were interested mainly in the photography, and while we have an active AV membership, those 'av members' thought the effects were simply over the top - when carried out throughout the show. Some members found the approach annoying, repetitive and getting in the way of what was clearly excellent photography. I fully realise that your intention may have been simply to highlight the approach, but members thought that using it at the beginning and end (bookends as they say for panels) would be a most impactive AV. Members thought that the photography was of such a high standard they could and should stand for themselves - without any special effect. I hope this info is useful.

  18. Hi Maureen and thanks for taking the time to download and comment, much appreciated. I see what you mean, it would be cleaner - no doubt - so I will review this when I have more of my photos 'sorted'. Thanks to Davy C who pointed out a few problems, (diplomatically by email) these have now been fixed. BTW I think the 'something' you saw on the top of one of the pics was actually my finger holding a ND grad!
  19. Great show Patrick and Catherine. I thought the images in the first half played a little fast, the images in the second half were (or seemed) slower. I enjoyed your photography, well done!
  20. A relaxing and most enjoyable show.
  21. Hi Dom, another impressive show. The effects pulled my eyes around the screen like a magnet, allowing them to rest and feast on the static image.
  22. Hi Dom, Like LumenLux I was enthralled by the photography and wondering about the need for the effects. I just loved the curves and orange colours - superb stuff. The effects are technically most impressive - well done.
  23. Great work, all images in mono would IMHO be even more evocative. I found the greens a little overcooked. Górecki's 3, Symphony of Sorrowful Songs might be too overpowering, but again IMHO really add to the emotion this AV. Barber's "Adagio for Strings" would also work, but is a little overused these days. I have the attention span of a goldfish, but this Av kept in enthralled - right to the end.
  24. New Zealand is a long way away from Ireland, but well worth it. My wife and I were lucky to get really good weather, with the exception of the day we tried to get to Milford Sound (the weather was so bad we had to turn back!) However, every other day was a good sky day. FYI: Nikon D300, 18-200VR (mainly), Sigma10-20 (occasionally), graduated ND1 (often), all hand-held, all processed in Capture NX2 and some exposure blending from raw. 1st draft, should run on all screens, all comments welcome, [22MB] http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...ries/nz2009.exe
  25. Hi Maureen, I only noticed the size difference the once, minor tweak will make it perfect. I enjoyed the scenery and was only put off by the music, Erin means Ireland, there is also a well known version called 'Paddy's green shamrock shore'. So kept on wondering what the link to Ireland was, and was it to do with the early church sites on Iona. Perhaps some Sottish music might be more appropriate? Of course, perhaps only the Irish would notice in the first place! All in all another great show, well enjoyed by folk at my camera club.
