  1. Hi Tomuk, The download was a bit slow, but worked eventually. I enjoyed your show, and in particular there are a number of fine portrait shots - the guy with the beard and sunglasses, the 3 star general are just two worthy of a mention in dispatches ;-) Sound/Music I found the soundtrack very loud and had to turn down my volume. (Normally I don't have to do this, in almost all cases I find the soundtrack to be just fine and occassionally I find them too low and have to bump them up a bit. This is the first one I have come across that I had to actually turn the sound volume down.) The 'chatter' background I found to be just a bit too loud and wondered if it should not be constant, rather than the fade in out, or sometimes cut out altogether only to re appear just seconds later. However, clearly you have put a lot of time and effort into this, and I really liked the music/visual link between the introduction of the drum music and the images of the drums - this worked very well. Well done. I thought the closing fancy graphics were a bit over the top, but that is just MHO. In summary this show has great potential. But by the sounds of it, you have already worked on this quite a bit, but I think you need to re visit the soundtrack.
  2. Hi Dave, The photography makes superb use of lines, perspective and depth. My fav image is the one of the rolling road (the one after the girl on the bench with the dog) - Although I would be tempted to crop just a bit of the right hand side to get the road coming out of the corner - and then flipping it so that it comes out of the bottom left corner. But that's just me - I love lines and corners and you certainly have plenty here on offer. I know you welcome detailed feedback, so... I liked the flowers and the spacing of the flower images in the show works very well. If you have more, may I suggest you add them? There is a slight 'wobble' in the music just after the slide with the six bar gate and the sign Kuenzhi Creek. There is one image that is mainly grass, it's the weakest in the show and I suggest you replace it with more flowers! I liked the white border and viewing on a 1920x1080 laptop the show works really well, smooth and the music suited the serenity. I agree with Ken, I like the fact that you have included play controls. There a number of images that I wanted to 'take my eye for walk', and most enjoyable they were too!
  3. Michel, I enjoyed your show, I thought your photography was great, it sure is difficult with those bright skies and I liked the detail in the (occasionally dirty) snow. I agree with Dave, above about the zoom in from zero, but that is just MHO. A map indicating where in France would be informative for viewers who have never been to this area. And lastly, the text on the last page has been slightly clipped on the left hand side - very minor stuff I agree, but you might not have noticed it. It's s keeper for me and I will probably show this at my camera club.
  4. great idea, thanks, I think I will have a go at this.
  5. Hi Folks, and thanks for your fast replies, I appreciate your feedback. Strange as it may seem I deliberately made it this fast, indeed it was faster ;-) I wanted to invoke emotions of - so much information/too much information, lots of things happening but not enough time to see them because of the chaos of the day. I wanted people to be frustrated by it but yet still hold their interest, as even though they only got a quick glance, I thought a quick glance might be enough. But clearly I have made a number of miscalculations, my introduction should have been more detailed. I assumed that everyone in the world knew what "911" meant. (Assumption is the mother of all co**-ups). So it is back to the drawing board for me. I have around 5,000 images, but that (in a project) crashed my system! So I brought it down to 3,000 and that was un-manageable - in terms of time. So I thought of just 1,000 and then reduce them to 9 hundred and 11 images. Music: Barbers music was used in Platoon and therefore has war connotations, but for me it is just too sad, even the music brings tears to my eyes and linked to this sort of stuff would have been over the top - for me at least. But I will give it a try and see how it works with others. I also considered Henryk Górecki, but it also brings me to tears... There is a worthwhile project here, and with your help I am sure I can do it. As the images are all smallish roughly 600 pixels in width I was considering a frame to contain them, and in the portrait sections using two images - fade in left - fade in right, fade in left etc. Speed, I thought it crucial to have 9 hundred and 11 images, but did not want the project to last too long. I am now thinking of a slow beginning to set the scene, a rapid fire middle bit, to tell the story and a slow conclusion. (with 3 different pieces of music). Or perhaps forgoing the 9 hundred and 11 images and having ony 500 might make it shorter, punchier and more impactive - yet still tell an important story. All advice, comments, and suggestions are most welcome. I am prepared to devote some time to this - to get it right.
  6. This is the 1st draft, there are about 1,000 images here but I intend to cut them down to 911. The photography is not mine, I found these on the 'net. (I have over 5,000 potential images and these were taken from the first 1,500) It is a project in progress and I welcome all feedback. 42MB here On 11 September 2001 a series of attacks were launched on America. It was a day that many around the world would never forget. (This first post has been updated to reflect the comments below)
  7. Thanks for your warm reply. I must look for that movie sounds like a good story.
  8. Oops, I forgot to add this info earlier. I was aiming to get as many lines as I could into the corners. This was one of the aims of the project, in an exercise in composition. If you carefully examine each image you will see that at least one line will always emerge from a corner. In some cases I have been able to get two and three lines to work. I got the inspiration from George Barr http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/next-level.shtml http://www.georgebarr.blogspot.com/ While I do not think that lines into / from corners is the 'be all and end all' of composition, it certainly does explain why some images work, while others don't. It was, for me , a worthwhile exercise in photography. I hope that by viewing this AV you will think about lines and corners!
  9. A photos and music AV. (Still having problems with res size! This is prepared for 16:9) here All feedback is welcome.
  10. A friend of mine has a child with Downs Syndrome. I met Ryan about eight years ago. His father (Tim) explained that sometimes Ryan would hide, or be very reserved, but occasionally he would simply jump on someone HE knew was OK and demand hugs! Ryan jumped on my lap and, I as had some chocolate in my pocket, I gave him some. I was overcome with emotion, Ryan immediately accepted me as a good guy. Recently Tim wanted some help with a web site to promote Newforge Taggers, a Tag Rugby Club for young people with learning disabilities. So I called at his house - Imagine my surprise when I met Ryan again and he said "Mark, Chocolate?" and wanted a hug! It brought tears to my eyes. (Clearly the web site was done deal at that time!) I am so proud of this pro bono site that I felt I should give it a plug here. I have also added an AV, the photography is not mine, but the expressions on the players faces' says it all. http://www.newforgetaggers.co.uk/ AV at http://www.newforgetaggers.co.uk/newforget..._ravenhill.html direct link http://www.newforgetaggers.co.uk/images/taggers1.exe Mark BTW, if you have time, please drop the secretary (Tim) an email. newforgetaggers@gmail.com
  11. Great show and some impressive effects. I thought the music was grand.
  12. Hi Patrick, I enjoyed your show, especially the photography. The bright skies and dark shadows can be difficult subjects and you have clearly captured this very well. Indeed IMHO there are a number of very impressive photos in the AV, I liked being able to pause the show to have a good look at these photos - otherwise the show on auto would have been much too fast for me.
  13. Peter, I am happy t see that you and others, have helped out here. I was interested to see the tip about the zip backup template thingy. I look forward to seeing the polished version in the FAQ's. Thank you.
  14. Oops, link updated, it must have got truncated http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...eries/mono2.exe
  15. Thanks you all for your kind comments, I am glad you liked the show.
  16. Updated again, feedback is most welcome. I have cropped some images to get lines coming / going from the corners. (6MB) 2 Minutes 31 seconds. http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...eries/mono2.exe
  17. Wonderful. I went in Winter and now I want to go back in Summer. (Not enough time or money!)
  18. downloading now, looks like it might take a while... But I will come back and offer feedback.
  19. Thank you John, for your feedback. That's a useful AV, thank you I have updated the AV http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...eries/mono2.exe
  20. Thanks to David Roberts for suggesting a collage approach. I'm not sure if it works, new version below (6MB). All feedback welcome. http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...eries/mono2.exe
  21. DavyG I can see the need to plan ahead and think about the AV before and during a photo shoot. Like many folk, I liked these images and thought an AV would be a good way to present them. On reflection a simple web gallery may be a better way. http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...ortfoliobw.html
  22. Hmm, I'm not sure about this now. I have added a white line, but as each photo was cropped for (what I thought was the best) composition, they do not flow well from one image to the next as they are all slightly different sizes. I suppose I could adjust each of the portrait images to that they are the same pixel size - although this will distort them somewhat. Of course this wouldn't help the square-ish images in there! All feedback, ideas and suggestions are most welcome.
  23. Good point, I will go now and fix it with a small white stroke and update it. Thanks for the feedback. That's one of the problems with working on a bright laptop, in the dark, at 2 am ;-)
  24. Everyone needs a project, from time to time, just to get out and take some photos.... So: I gave myself a project to consider; windows, light and shadows. I went to the Ulster Folk Mueseum, Cultra, Northern Ireland. (Updated following advice below) http://www.markallenphotography.co.uk/mark...eries/mono2.exe Best regards Mark
  25. Thank you for your feedback. A stunning part of the world.
