Hello Igor and Maureen, I've received a message from Laure Gigou. She agrees to post her definition of Diaporama on Wikipedia for the french part. You will find the text in french, here following. My english is too poor for a good translation, it would be nice if Maureen would do it. Thanks in advance. »

Hello Ken yes, that's right! The same on my side, although the error messages if we click OK on the pop-up message and go on, the nav bar works. It seems that a png file is missing...? It would be better if Igor's team could fix it. Have a good week end Daniel

Problems with Videoconverter First of all, congratulations to the PTE's team for providing us with an easy to use videoconverter! Thanks to you Igor. I 've made some tests and noticed the following problems 1 - If I want to modify the file name and folder for the converted file, there is no possibility to choose a file format and the extension mime does not appear. It would be better if the mp4 extension was automatically selected as there is no other choice. 2 - Even checking the resizing box it seems that this feature is not yet available as there is no possibility to modify the size in pixels in the dialog box. 3- Trying to make a conversion flv to mp4, the first time I openned the flv file I ve got an error message from the videoconverter but after closing it and reopenning it everything becomes OK and the conversion was OK Please see pictures here attached Daniel

Hello Maureen, I ve sent a pm to Laure asking her if she wants to contribute for the french part Best regards Daniel PS: in fact, in my previous post, the definition is not correct it should be better to say "Diaporama is the art to show a sequence of slides synchronized with music, with or without mixing sounds and comments". I think that is more in line with the english wordings Audio visual or AV and with the spirit of the french author who invented the word. Sometimes, the french word "diaporama" is translated by "slideshow" (there is another article in wikipedia concerning a slide-show definition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_show) but, in this case, the right translation of slide-show in french should be "presentation". PowerPoint were/is used by marketing and commercial people for making their slides show to their customers.

Hello Igor The origin of the definition given by this article sounds very special and strange! Since long times, for a lot of photographers and french dictionnaries : Diaporama = diapositive (= slide in english) + rama/orama (greek suffix which means view / show...) see here (document found on Internet under the signature of Laure Gigou.. but in french) and so it comes "Diaporama is the art to show a sequence of slides with or without synchronized music" We all know that everybody can write what he wants in wikipedia ! Best regards Daniel

Thanks Igor, your reply could explain a size discrepancy around 1MB but in fact our member observes that : - indicated project size 48.5MB => created .exe file size 55.2MB - indicated project size 45.6MB => created .app file size 53.3MB In such examples the size discrepancy is around 6,7MB for .exe file and 7,7 MB for .app file. So your answer explains the 1MB difference between .exe and .app but what about the 6.7MB? Best regards Daniel

Problem with .app files for Mac Thanks Igor, I confirm that solve the main problem. The other question was about the discrepancy between the .exe (or .app) file size indicated in the main window of PTE and the created file size which is around 20% bigger? Do you have an idea of what is going wrong? Best regards Daniel.
-
Problem with MAC Hi Igor one of our members has some problem with files for MAC. It seems that.app files are created normally but he cant execute them. The .app file size is around 20% much bigger. This problem is observed with beta 11 and 10. Best regards Daniel

Surprising new look, bravo Igor! Daniel

Problem with mts video clips. Hello Igor, I dont know if it is the right place to report some experiences with mts video files tested with beta 10 (not yet with beta 11)- I have shot some very short rushes with my Sony Camera in order to test the new ability of PTE to manage mts video files. The video clip files format is mts AVCHD 1920x1080i 50Hz. In fact the video files are displayed inside PTE main window with blue thumbnails "error...." but when dragged and dropped on the timeline, the thumbnail on the timeline is normal and the video are displayed inside the miniviewer, but jerky and scarred. The same thing happens with the preview. I have made the same test on three different PCs with the same results : 1- XP SP2 Media Center Edition/ Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 1,6GHz / NVIDIA Go7600 2- W7 / Pentium T4440 4Go/ Intel GMA 4500M 3- W7 /Intel Q9550 6Go/ NVIDIA 9500GT Nota : I can read all my videos smoothly with VLC,MHC, or Sony' PMB. In our club, we use also Studio14 and Adobe Premiere CS4 or CS5(on 2 or 3)without any problem. Best regards.

Hi Igor following my previous post, here are some other suggestions : 1) Main Window for Slides (see pict1& pict2) : - "Add sound" button could be moved on the same line with "Customize Slide" and "Objects and Animation" (see pict1) - "Change Image file" could be moved on the pull-down menu (right click on a dedicated slide) and could replace "Clear Slide list" as this feature does not concern the slide selected but all the slides.(see fig1) - "Comment" box (above the viewer) could be moved to a new tab to be added in "Customize Slide" window (see pict3) - Scale expander for thumbnails of the file pannel could be moved at the bottom side of this pannel (see pict2) - Then, in order to ease the use of slide list, some control buttons can be added just above the slide list, such as : " Clear Slide List", "View of Slides F4", "New transition", "Cut transition", "Undo", "Redo". In such a modification, the Main Window layouts are the same for Slides or Timeline. - Main Menu, there is no need for "Publish", "Project", "Slide" which then could be suppressed (see pict2) - So one suggestion : a new Main Window for Slides could look like pict2 2) Main Window for Timeline (see pict4) - add the time scale expander available also with Ctrl+F10/F11 3) Sound editing To ease the usability of the "Audio clip properties" ( Project Options/Music tab or Add Sound) it would be fine to enable to switch between Slides and Timeline in order to set the right parameters (as it is up to v7.0 beta5, we cannot switch between Slides and Timeline when the "Audio clip properties" window is open (see pict5)). Best regards Daniel.

Hi Igor, Some suggestions * Main window / File / Templates - "Manage Templates" and "create Template from this show" these commands shoud be merged, like it is up today, only "Manage Templates is useful as it enables to browse, choose and name the registration folder. * Main Window - avoid saving again after creating an exe or video if the project has not been modified since the last saving. As it is today if you 1) save your project 2) create an exe 3) close your project Then Pte requires to save again before closing, that is confusing. *Main Window - an hourglass pointer should be nice during "exe" creation or when PTE is occupied with a batch task *Main Window - add a button to switch on the slide list (was existing before v7.0), and leave the possibility to use F4 hotkey *Main Window / Project Options/ Sound tab - the check box ""Don't interrupt sound comment when next slide appears" should be moved to Main Window / Add Sound/ Audio clip properties (as it is today, it is very confusing for beginners and there are many mistakes due to that) *Objects and Animation - start playing should start from the last blue index position *Objects and Animation/ Objects/Animation window - movement settings on "smooth" by default rather than "linear" and all sections "separated" and not "glued" - should it be possible to also set the speed slope for "opacity". *Objects and Animation/ Objects/Properties window - posibility to add an additionnal mask in a mask container by a right click on a mask container object then add a mask rather than to go and open Properties and click on "additional Mask" *Sound features : (refer to my previous post on this subject) sound editing with v7.0 There is a lot of possibilities with sound editing for backgrounds music (project options/ music tab) and now the same for comments and sounds slide by slide (Add sound/ Audio clip propeties). Every parameter can be adjusted with accuracy except the envelope / volume modulation. If I am right, the only way I found to set the volume parameter at a keypoint is to use the mouse hand cursor dragging up or down on the dotted line which is not very accurate neither easy to do. That would be very nice if it was possible to set this parameter by taping the volume required directly in a dialog box? Best regards Daniel

I full agree with your comment. I think that this problem of video duration/slide duration has the same origin that this one I reported in my previous post see here In fact when we drag & drop a video clip on the timeline the slide duration is automatically equal to the first video clip duration put as a slide but afterwards if in the o&a properties window, we modify the video clip duration or we replace the video clip by another one of different duration, the slide duration remains unchanged. Daniel
-
Igor, I think there is a misunderstanding, the duration parameters (specified in O&A properties, or original video files duration) are known in advance there are no need to re-calculate it on the fly. Daniel
-
Thanks Igor, I understand your point and knowing that, I can manage like it is. However, like it is, when you drag and drop a video clip on the timeline, the indication which appears automatically on the slide is the total duration of the video clip. May I suggest that each times there are no other objects on the slide, except videos, the duration of the slide is calculated to be equal to the sum of total or specified duration of all videos clips. If there is only one (or more) object other than video clips, the slide duration must be specified as we used to do before v7.0. That is just a suggestion! Daniel

Some problem with video duration parameter. It seems a bit different that this one which has been reported previously by bbdigital. I openned my previous slideshow which includes a slide within a video clip (the video clip duration was 1mn 11s, I wanted to stop the video at 51s 824 and I modified the duration parameter to this value in the O&A window. The result was unexpected : in fact the video is played during 51s 824 and freezes on the last frame which remains as a still picture up to 1mn 11s then the next slide is played. I expected that the video would have stopped playing at 51s 824 then the next slide should have been played. The information of the duration of the video clip on the timeline remains unchanged at 1mn 11s. But if I modify the duration parameter by clicking on the information directly on the timeline, the video is played as expected! Best regards Daniel

Igor, I confirm that beta 3, solves the sound problem (amplification and saturation) on my side, Thank you Daniel
-
I full agree with Jean-Cyprien, this cross button is more dangerous than useful as the right click on a slide enables to remove the slide Daniel.
-
Igor Installing the new beta 2, I reproduce exactly the same phenomena as described previously with beta 1 so this time I made a save of the files I will provide to you. Best regards Daniel

SUPERBE! Bravo! Daniel
