Sorry Igor, but following your demand I tried to reopen the project but was unable to reproduce this sound problem. Perhaps a problem of memory reset? I should have restarted my PC after the v7.0 installation. Have a good week-end! Daniel

AMBIGUITE Or the two faces of the mankind(sorry the text is in french) This slideshow has been created by several members of our forum. They were very impatient to play with the new V7.0 by inserting video clips. Perhaps it could gives somme ideas? PTE v7.0 : ....one giant leap for the diaporama world! Thank you Igor ( from GY, Diou, Dan ...)

Yes in Project Options/ Music Tab. I used a slideshow already prepared with v6.5 and I opened it with V7.0 everything was OK the music works fine. Then I inserted a video clip as a new slide, but it was necessary to stop the music during the video clip, so I modified the duration parameter of the sound file (Music Tab). But I was very surprised because the duration was not modified but the music was amplified and saturated during the video clip. I thought the effect was caused by the video clip so I deleted the video clip from the timeline but the problem remains the same. I saved the project with a new name but I got the same result. see above, no the program did not hung up In fact the first time I read the slideshow with the mini viewer I think (not so sure because I cant reproduce it after)it was OK but reading the slideshow with the preview button or by creating an exe file the problem was there. No that is not a sound click. I could recognise the music but very amplified and saturated, it appears on the synchronization bar/timeline as a plain rectangular blue bar. Daniel

Sound problems Congatulations Igor, there are a lot of very attractive features in this release. Even with my old Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 I had no problem inserting a MPEG4 video clip (see Mediainfo report). It required only few seconds to create the EXE file, and the quality is quite good, very very impressive! Now, I am very eager to test my Sony and Panasonic AVCHD 720p and 1080i videos! 1) However I have experienced an important problem with sound features. Using the music tab of Project Options, when I specify a duration shorter than the sound file length, PTE plays the music perfectly well up to the duration specified but after there is a big amplification and saturation problem and it becomes unusable. This problem did not exist with v6.5. I must say the problem remains with or without the video clip. 2) It would be nice if it was possible to be able to adjust the sound level of the video as for music and comments Daniel For your information : Mediainfo report on video ID : 1 Format : MPEG-4 Visual Profil du format : Advanced Simple@L1 Paramètres du format, BVOP : Oui Paramètres du format, QPel : Non Paramètres du format, GMC : Pas de warppoints Paramètres du format, Matrice : Default (H.263) Identifiant du codec : 20 Durée : 1mn 11s Type de débit : Variable Débit : 5 195 Kbps Largeur : 1 280 pixels Hauteur : 720 pixels Format à l'écran : 16/9 Type d'images/s : Constant Images par seconde : 24,000 Im/s Espace de couleurs : YUV Sous-échantillonnage de la chrom : 4:2:0 Profondeur des couleurs : 8 bits Type d'image : Progressif Bits/(Pixel*Image) : 0.235 Taille du flux : 44,0 Mio (96%) Bibliothèque utilisée : Lavc52.66.0

This new main window looks fine, several information about slides are added but I agree with Peter, it is very important to keep an icon button for the digital lightbox, short keys are important for experts but are real traps for beginners who do not want to read all the user manual before making their first slide. The most intuitive is the interface the better it is for all PTE users! I Some questions to Igor, - I do not understand the reason for the cross ( on the same line as Customize Slide and O&A ) what is the purpose? Other comment : Even if Xaver is right, personnaly I do not see any inconvenience to keep the same wording "Slide" for Pictures or Videos or both. Daniel

Hi Igor You will find a short AVCHD 1080i 50fps (MPEG4/H264 AVC Part10) video taken with a Sony HD camcorder. Daniel
-
Thank you Igor for this information, but what about AVCHD 1080i and m2ts container which are widely used by digital HD camcorders and cameras? Daniel
-
We are eager to play with it.....like Tex Avery's wolves!! Igor, could you say when ? Daniel

First of all I would thank Jean-Cyprien for his very impressive and accurate slideshow. I missed it last Christmas. Bravo!! I must say that I haven't seen any problem playing Jean-Cyprien and Lin's slideshow on my "old" PC(Intel dual core first generation) To come back on this interesting topic, after reading the last post made by Jan, I have made a very simple and quick test. I put 30 slides (1440x1080 370ko) with 40ms duration and no effect. PTE did not succeed to play each of the view. So I replaced them by 30 slides (800x600 240ko). PTE could play each of the view only by increasing their duration to around 100ms. If there is a larger picture in position of view 1 or 2 there is no problem but if this larger picture is in the middle or at another position, PTE preview stops. So it seems that there is a condition between minimum duration and picture size (which is in line with Jan's test results), and the fact that there is no problem when the larger picture is in position of view1 or 2 seems in line with what Jean-Cyprien said about PTE downloading two pictures in advance. But what is the contribution of PC's performance and PTE's calculation?? That was just for the fun! Daniel

I full agree with TheDom suggestion and I voted YES. This is a wellknown tricky point for beginners (...and others!) but I can guess that it is not so easy to solve otherwise Igor would have already sorted it out! Daniel

Masque flou => See here : http://www.david-romeuf.fr/Publications/Amateur/MasqueFlou/mf.html that is a wellknown process mainly used by astronom photographers

Good news, thank you Igor ! 15 days countdown..... Just one question, shouhd we have to convert our video clips to some mandatory formats or do you think that PTE will be able to insert all existing video/audio formats from HD digital camcorders or cameras. Daniel
-
Igor, that was not a complaint from me, we all know you are doing your best for PTE, that was just a comment linked with the different reaction of PTE when it runs under Win7 versus XP for creating exe for MAC. Best regards. Daniel
-
Thank you Igor Yes, that is the solution! Thank you Igor, but in anyway that is a very surprising reaction under Win 7 by comparison with other softwares...you should perhaps have a look on that! OK, I have noted and reported to them. But I will probably get some comments. In fact it sounds a bit strange to need a Deluxe licence for creating just an exe file for MAC even if you do not need Videobuilder for creating videos. I think that was the reason why they thought there was a bug with PTE. It is even more strange than there is no such restriction under Win XP, they have experienced this problem only under Win 7. Best regards, Daniel.

I am a bit late but.... I full agree with Ken and full support his claim. The offset for audio clips added with the "Add sound" button is cruelly missing! Why? Because the start of the audio clip should be adjusted depending on the duration of the transition. It would be very nice if Igor could add this possibilty before releasing the v7, version. We can guess that the v7 beta with new video features will require some months before reaching the final version. This offset feature is really needed each time we want to add comments synchronized with a particular slide. There are a lot of other possible improvements for sound editing although a very great and good job has already been done in that way with v6.5, but this one is a very important one and perhaps not so difficult to implement as this feature already exist for sound properties in project options. Best regards Daniel

Several members of our club have reported to me a new problem with PTE license key. The problem happens when they want to create a zip file for MAC users. The first time, a window pops up requiring a valid license key. If they do not take care about this window and go on with the process, PTE creates the zip file anyway. If they want to create another zip file for MAC after the first one there is no problem. They all, have a PC runing under Win7 and PTE v6.5.7. How could they solve this issue? Best regards Daniel

V6.5.7 License Key problem with multi user sessions This problem happens under Vista or Win 7, I have not yet tested under XP. My PTE version works perfectly well if I open it under my PC administrator session. But if I create a new user session / or if I try to open PTE under another user session a message pops up requiring a new license key saying this is a 30 days trial session and if I point out on my license key text file, it is considered as a non valid key. Under the same user session, if I make a right click on the PTE program file and execute it as an administrator, there is no problem. I must say that only PTE is working like that, on the same PC there are other softwares installed from Adobe or Pinnacle and they work whatever the user session. What is going wrong with PTE? Thanks in advance for your reply. Best regards Daniel

Congratulations Igor, a great job have been done ! Just a comment, please do not forget us! In Europe, we use 25p/s for 1980x1080i, 24p/s for 1980x1080p and 50p/s for 1280x720p we do not use american standards. Thank you in advance. Good luck! Daniel.

Problem with some audio files converted from wav to mp3 VBR (see my previous post) Igor, I confirm your diagnosis, converting the wav file to mp3 by using CBR and not variable bit rate, solve this issue, in the case of mp3 CBR, the duration noted by PTE is right. Thanks for your recommendation Daniel
-
I am experiencing a problem with mp3 sound files with v6.5.5 I am working on a slideshow including background music (tracks in the music tab/Project Options) and comments slide by slide using the "add sound" button above the viewer. I have 30 comments. I made a first round with wave files : everything was OK, then I converted all my comments to mp3 files and I replaced all comments by using - add sound button / Replace sound file for this slide - slide by slide. Running the slideshow I was very surprise listening the comments, 3 of them were cut before ending. After several runs it appears that for 2 comments the error is permanent and for one of them, sometimes to times it is read up to the end. After checking it appears that on the "audio clip properties" the duration was wrong. It seems that in such cases PTE does not recognise properly the duration of the mp3 audio clip. Why? NB same problem happens with PC under XP or Win7

Hi Ray thank you for correcting my error, obviously...more than 6GB! I agree with you, AVC editing requires 64bits processor architecture and compatible softwares to speed up the video coding process . Daniel

Hi Igor we are eager to know a little bit more about these good news...suspense! Just coming back to video clips, it seems that the video market (cameras, camcorders, HDTV) will use mainly 3 formats based on H264 (MPEG-4 AVC) video coding standard : - 1280x720p (50fps and ~60fps) for HDTV programs and some cameras - 1920x1080i (25fps and ~30 fps) for HDTV programs, AVCHD camcorders and cameras - 1920x1080p 24fps for blu-ray movies The main parameter is the video coding data rate, high quality videos requires between 10 and 25Mbit/s following the coding profile(which is the case for my Sony AVCHD camcorder HP@L4 : 16Mbit/s) which provides very huge video files (around 2Mbytes per second of video). Could you explain how you intend to insert such video clips with PTE slideshows without making PTE too much complicated to use? By experience, AVCHD video editing requires very powerful PC configuration (quad core processors and more than 6Gbytes RAM). And on top of that you spend half an hour for 5' video rendering in comparison with seconds for an exe as it is today. I can guess it could be less power consuming if it was possible not re-coding all the video clip but only the transtions with slides and that would be a very great improvement in HD video editing. Another way (refer to DivX Plus, Youtube, HD coding) would be to lower the video quality by reducing coding data rate. For example, DivX Plus or YouTube video data rate coding for 1280x720p is around 3.5Mbit/s which provides a good compromise and acceptable result but requires re-coding all the video clip with a lower quality profile. Waiting for your comments... Best regards and good luck! Daniel 101029 Edit : ... more than 6Gbytes RAM (and not 6Mbytes RAM)

Ray, sorry, you are right, I am speaking about Blu-ray disc. Daniel

Congratulations Igor, to you and your team! Thanks for all improvements. You are on the right tracks now for sound editing, it remains just one step to go! Good luck! Daniel

Hello Igor, I sent you the .pte file by PM, it is not mine. Is this problem in relation with the problem discussed above with Peter? When I received the slideshow (V6.04) from one of our forum members, the first time I opened it I was obliged to fix all sounds "in error" as I said in my previous post, however when you asked me to send you the .pte file 6.0, I tried once again to open this v6.0 slideshow project within 6.5 but this time everything appear to be OK???? (XP/WMC) Best regards Daniel.
