1) Animation - I would suggest to have a dedicated button for this tool in order to open directly the floating window with the "animation tab". I think it is not obvious at all for the PTE user to find this tool behind a button called "Adjust Image and Border" 2) Sound compatibility with older PTE versions - when opening a PTE 6.0 project within PTE 6.5 beta14 (and others), if comment sounds were included in this 6.0 project via the "Add sound" button we get an "error" message and the "Add sound" button becomes "error". I would suggest in order to keep the compatibility with older version than "by default" the sound properties are set ( Start time =0, Fade In=0, Fade out =0, Volume =100%) and all sounds placed on "track 1", is it possible? And the same should be applied to the background sound. Best regards Daniel

Better name for "Low quality of resizing" option
Picsel replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
I full agree with Peter, better to say "what" rather than "how" After viewing Igor sample I would suggest : "zoom in/out opitimization" or "up/downscaling optimization" Daniel -
Thanks Igor, that is fixed now with v65b14RC, description and comment are both OK on my side. Welldone!

Yes Igor, obviously I agree that could help to use a number of pixels which can be divided by 3 but that requires to resize all the pictures and it seems that does not completely solve the problem : even if I resize all the pictures at 1920x1278 and 1278x852, I can see an error (test2) which appears at the top and bottom line of my PC screen (1600x900). I made another test (test3) using a frame as a parent for all the pictures left in their original size (1920x1280 and 1280x853), and in this case the only error which I can see on my PC is a black border line (background) on the sides which is strange as the background color should only cover the specified screen format (1280x853) and in this case should be entirely covered by the pictures and should not be visible at all. Best regards. Test files : - test 2 - test 3

Ray Ok I understand your concern. If you are used to burn Blu Ray DVD, which parameters do you prefer to use for coding your HD video? Personnaly rather than burning DVD I prefer to register files on HDD and read it after with a mediaplayer but we have some members in our club who prefer burning DVD and this question is often raised, so your experience could be helpful. Daniel

Hi Ray You are right for avi creation there is no need for the checkbox "interlaced video" as the only choices are NTSC or PAL/TV options. But if you want HD 1080p why not use Create/HD Video for PC or MAC/ with customized options you can get a High quality HD video mp4 in 1080p 60fps? Regards Daniel
-
Hi Ray, Interesting question... I dont know if it will help but my understanding is as follows : 2 existing worlds : TV world and Movie world for the TV world, digital broacasted TV will be coded following H264 specs at 720p (60 fps for NTSC and 50fps for PAL) or at 1080i (two half frames, each at 60 or 50fps). The 1080p at the same speed would require twice the bandwidth and so has been judged too much expensive for broadcasting. And that should be the reason why there is no choice available today for this option not yet very useful on video market. Movie world has not the same historic backgrounds neither the same constraints and keeps on HD pictures at 24fps and 1080p (progressive mode)for Blu ray DVD. New camcorders working at 50fps/60fps or even more are coming on the market, the world of video coding will change (without speaking about 3D). Am I right ? Daniel.

1) Audio editing - First of all, thank you Igor and PTE team for the great improvement in audio editing, our members were very keen to be able to modify sound level. We will wait for next step with the possibility to do the same simultaneously on both sound tracks (background and comments) over a common timeline with slides. 2) No Exif comments - One of our members reported a problem when selecting the Project options/ Comments "Insert template" Jpeg Exif Description and Jpeg Exif Comments, no problem with Exif description but the Jpeg Exif Comments did not appear during the slideshow. She uses different Exif editor softwares but the result was the same. Is there a problem with PTE or with the Exif Editor ? and in this case which one should we use? (was tested with 6.5 beta 10 / XP) 3) Picture size error - One of our members made a slideshow with animated slides (you will find it, here attached, I have just replaced her pictures by colored ones without other modifications). She selected Project Options/ Screen/ virtual size of slide = 1280x853, the main slide was also 1280x853 but the others 9 (which should cover the main slide at the end of the animation) where 1920x1280. The color outside slide area is "white" and the background is a "black" solid color. Then the error of picture size can be seen : during the animation, the slideshow let appear a lane of pixels along the border with the white color and, at the end of the animation, a red line can be seen between the small 9 pictures. This problem is not a new one , it has been raised several times by JPD. File test available here Best regards Daniel.

Gary, Yes that was in this topic "Is the difference in PTE's H.264 and MP4 output?" I am sorry but I was abroad for a while and I had not the opportunity to follow up the thread..... I hope you enjoy your purchase of WD TV player for reading your mp4 video files created with PTE! But coming back on this subject : mp4 is a container and the quality of video file inside this container depends on the codec quality and parameters used for coding! If I remember well, for HD-HQ, PTE uses 30fps and a coding x264 at variable bit rate of 7Mb/s (max 16Mb/s) with a High@L4.1 Profile which is convenient for still pictures. Parameters can be customized if necessary. Daniel.

Xaver, I understand your point and I would support your position. One graphical interface should be the best solution but I have understood that v6.5 was not ready for that and I hope that my two suggestions could be taken into account in future beta releases to come. Coming back to your suggestion of graphical sound editor with several sound tracks, I think that Igor will have to face a big challenge. Either PTE remains in the slideshows market and in most cases we only need one background sound track and another one for sound effects/comments slide by slide, either it competes with video movie makers by introducing mix of pictures and videosequences and in this case we will need several sound tracks as live, sound effects, background music, comments,etc.... Igor will have to take into account that this market segment (video movie makers) is already covered by several wellknown softwares as Studio (Pinnacle), Vegas (Sony), Premiere (Adobe), etc.. Is PTE capable to compete on this market at a short term? Regards, Daniel

Thanks Igor, congratulations for huge work on this new v6.5 release. I would like to point out some other improvements already discussed on this forum which could ease the use of sound features 1) I really would appreciate if there was an indication on the waveform/synchronization timeline when sound/comment are added to a slide which is still not the case with this new release. The minimum should be a bar indicating there is another sound mixed, the best should be a second dedicated sound track. 2) Project Options/ Musix tab/ "D'ont interrupt sound comment when next slide appears", in fact this choice should be given when sound is added with a slide, I think it would be better if the check box was associated with the "music parameters" window which pops up when we want add sound/comment to a slide, otherwise people which are working on their slideshow forget to come back on Project Options. Best regards

Is the difference in PTE's H.264 and MP4 output?
Picsel replied to goddi's topic in General Discussion
I full agree with you André, up to now that is the most interesting, simplest and cheapest solution to read all video formats including H264 and H264AVC, no need of blu-ray burner, no need of blu-ray DVD, no need of blu-ray player, just connect one standard external HDD (USB2) and your TV set (HDMI) That's all. It reads all existing video HD format including DivX HD. Daniel. -
Congratulations to you Igor and to your project Team ! All PTE users will be happily surprised by the improvement between PTE v5.6 and this new v6.0 version. A very good job indeed! Daniel.

Igor, tested with v6.0 beta 25 but exists also with older releases. Something is not logical with "Customize Navigation Bar" window If I make the choice of available/selected buttons and following the window description, after that I change the style of navigation bar, all my previous choices are reinitialized without notice. If you dont take care you can get something wrong. I would suggest that changing the style of navigation bar should not affect the choices of available/selected buttons. Best regards Daniel.

Thanks Lin I will read this thread in detail and have a look on my video card (Nvidia geforce 7600) parameters ! Best regards Daniel.

Yes, but I must say I tried with and without and the visible results are the same. Daniel.

Thanks Igor for your work We have tested this new release 6.0RC. Apparently everything is OK now. Best regards Daniel

Hi Lin, I need your help. I made two panoramas. First one is 1280x720 fix size screen/cover slide The second one is 1920x1080 virtual size screen/cover slide The main picture of this pano is a 11424x1080px jpg. In fact there is no big difference in quality with the original except the shimmering effect on the mast of sailing boats at the very beginning and also on some vertical lines. This shimmering effect is visible on PC screens. If I display the second one (1920x1080) on a TV LCD screen with same resolution there is no problem at all. How can I reduce this shimmering effect for PC viewers without having to resize the main picture depending on PC screen resolution? Pano_1280x720 Pano_1920x1080 (just for information : Loctudy bay (Brittany/France)- music is from Adragante (Tradincelt abstract "sous la pluie")/ creativecommons license) Thanks in advance Daniel.

Many thanks Igor Everything is OK for them both with this version! For your information : system a : video memory 128Mo (modif 091023_01 please read 128Mo and not 1024) system b : video memory 256Mo Best regards Daniel

OK Igor, I download it

Yes Igor, I got the authors authorization and I sent you 2 download links by PM, just few moment ago. The files are original ones without bad file names modification. We have achieved some other tests - we made the file name modification on chartres01.pte and leave chartres06stereo.pte with bad file names If they open chartres01.pte at first, there is no problem every thing is OK but if they open chartres06stereo.pte at first and reopen chartres01.pte after that, the problem remains as before....a memory effect somewhere.. (that was just for your information) Daniel

Thanks Igor, I will do so. To answer your previous post 1) the result is the same whatever the beta release 22 - 23 -24 2) system a : Pentium 4 2,8GHz 1Go + Radeon 9200SE system b : AMD athlon64 3400+ 2,2GHz 1,5Go / ATI Radeon Xpress 200 But after deeper analysis of their files it seems that the problem should come from a bad file name (cathé01.jpg rather than cathe01.jpg) Do you think that could explain? Daniel

Hello Jean-Pierre, Sorry bo be late, once again that is a very impressive work and beautiful demo. Colors are so accurate! Bravo!!! It runs smooth and fine on my T5200 1,6Ghz 2Go Windows Media Center. Daniel.

Igor, Two of our members, working together on the same project have reported the same problem. I tried to reproduce it on my computer but everything was OK on my side. The problem is as follows : they use beta 22, the project is a very small one less than 10 views. When they open the project, if they click on the first view and open it with O&A editor that is OK, they also can use the bleue arrows at the top right to go and back to other views without any difficulty but if they start working by clicking on any view except the first one they get a pop-up window asking for Direct9X and hardware acceleration activated on videocard! (please refer to the picture here attached) They both use PTE since a long time and had never seen this problem before. Is there some explanation of that? Thanks in advance Daniel
-
Thanks Ken for your funny proposal ..... But you should also consider that some other software on the market, let say Adobe Premiere for example, yes they keep records of your "projects" but not of your "output files" which are video files and that is the right way to work. Nobody is asking for their mpeg files!! If you dont remember in which folder your files are saved there are many tools available on the Net to help you to solve this problem. Nobeefstu If I understand your last post I think we are mixing things, I like that PTE keeps records of name/path for .pte files projects "yes" but sorry there is no such need for .exe files. Best regards Daniel.
