Ken, Well there's good different, bad different or indifferent different. Whatever kind this is I don't mind. Now being different,Thats what makes us all the same Davy -
All, I have uploaded an AV, ‘While your Gods were sleeping’. http://www.mediafire.com/?43z84pcv3uj541p A bit of sightseeing across the universe and then back home to a freshly baked planet earth, in 3min 40seconds. Best viewed at night or in a darkened room to catch the individually placed twinkles. DavyC

Mark, Great show and liked the relaxed style. As others have said the pan is too fast, but also this and a couple of other pics are leaning off the vertical (not just lens distortion I think). The large text as said before is also too big or not needed. Maybe something in a more relaxed hand written font would be more suitable. If keeping text, then maybe use a title other than 'The House'. Youtube works, but is only so so quality.Your Exe works much better. I'm sure the couple, their families and yourself are pretty happy. Well done Regards, Davy

Peter, There have been many posts here,so I may have missed an earlier reply. If you could post an exe version, maybe we could see the difference in quality. I tried Youtube once,I think before the HD format, but it was pretty poor. Video can be decent, but the fades on the photos are causing playback artifacts. Some have had similar problems with projectors that are intended for video display. I don't know if this can ever be resolved, but it is distracting and does not show a photo AV in the best light. Regards, Davy

Hi Barry, I have to agree with you on this. Video is a different kettle of fish. The term acid test was used by the original poster. This acid test was used to determine if material was in fact real gold, fools’ gold, or some other fake metal. The lustre of this AV has been dulled by the Youtube experience. Even an Iron Pyrites AV will brighten up a little when viewed as an exe presentation. The AV itself was short, which was fine. Not sure is the 2nd image in has been stretched vertically. Music was very good. Overall though, a beautiful ruined Abbey in North Yorkshire...ruined. DavyC

Maureen, Another one for the collection. Well done. Davy

Hi David, Very creative stuff again. I thought it would suffer being 1024x768,but I thought it worked spot on. The ambient soundtrack relaxes the need for conformity imposed with traditional AVs and allows you more freedom getting your message across. This won't suit everybody, but I say, keep it up. Would like to see a big screen version of on of your AVs. Well done. Davy

Hi David, Thanks for viewing and your comments. I kept things simple with the Clock/Roller coaster. Glad you liked it. Davy

Hi Mickp, I might struggle with a digital camera up against some of these pics. The earliest photos would be from around the time of the death of Queen Victoria. 2 years before the first successful flight of the Wright Brothers. Thanks for watching and commenting. Davy

Ken, Most pics are from 8x10 dry plate glass negatives.some 5x7 negatives. On the 'Iron Horses' AV there is a pic of 2 guys carrying a monster camera to the left of a train. They are on a steep ledge. The plate negatives are something like 16x22 ! Cheers, Davy

All, Have uploaded an AV to mediafire ‘Days of our lives’. http://www.mediafire.com/?mjyvjrzejzu A nostalgic look back to childhood days of old. No computer games, or Ipods then. You could make do with a ball, a rope, or just a good imagination. Best days though would be when you got to the beach. Sun, sea, sand and ice cream. Images are from the US, dating from the 1900s – 1940s.It comes with a 'Bash this AV' title, so feel free. Davy

Mark, Music, mood and Photos combine to make a great AV. Well done. Davy

Hi Bernard, That exe version worked. Brilliant stuff.I had to improvise some 3D glasses.I used 2 coloured Rosco Flash gels. Thanks for posting this.Very impressive.Well done. Davy

Hi Bernard, I am having no success trying to open via Winrar the PC version of your AV. I am getting a report, 'File corrupted'.It might just be me,so maybe someone else could comment. Regards, Davy

Hi Jean, Thanks for downloading and your comments. You can spend hours cleaning/correcting old photos, but I think too, that this can be overdone. Viewing old photos you expect to see imperfections,so I took out what was distracting and left in what I thought was acceptable. I keep some Sepia actions in Photoshop, this one being adjustable,so I can fine tune the appearance. Davy

Cheers Ken, I think the full screen helps. Soundtrack is by The Notting Hillbillies. Davy

Not quite a ‘Director’s Cut’, but have uploaded a new version,‘Iron Horses Redux’ here. http://www.mediafire.com/?yewwdm0ymjn Upped resolution from 1600x1200 to 1920x1200 and a new ‘Railroad theme’ soundtrack. Have changed things around a bit, and by removing titles, have squeezed in a dozen new pics. Lasts about 6 mins and around 34mb in size Davy

Hi Mickp, Thanks for downloading and your comments. I have kept duration to flow with the music/timing.I did try different timings, but this seemed to work best. A few antivirus softwares are 'playing up'with exe files (in line with new definitions)as it's a potential route for malicious damage. I don't think I zipped this exe file ,so that may have been an issue here. I am not a great fan of Norton as it is a bit of a resource hog (unless you have the corporate version). It's not the program it once was. Davy

All, I have included a title slide version of Iron Horses here. http://www.mediafire.com/?imjq2md0nof It has some background information to the early days of the train in America. Also enabled is keyboard control. Not sure what was wrong, but after 2 days of being unable to upload to Mediafire, it’s back up again. I will have a look for some notes on the individual slides, for an extended Director’s cut. Davy
-
G'day John, Seeing it's for you I will enable the keyboard control and add an intro slide. I might have to do a hunt around for some notes on the slides, but if successsful will either post a page with info on the slides, or stick it on to the end of the AV. Will keep the original AV and just put up a link to the 'jfa extended director's cut' Hi David, Glad I asked for honest feedback as that is important. I agree with you on the slide duration and the music as well. I set the slides to correspond with the music as after a suck it and see trial it seemed to work best. The music I had originally wanted had been a recording of a recording and although I preferred it to the piece I ended up using it was slightly distorted.I don't have the original track or title so I can't tell what it is.I will maybe post it to see if anybody recognises it. I tried a few pieces of music to marry in with the slides, but getting them to work well would mean changing the order and timings. It's not going to happen. Might be worth revisiting when I get some new material. John and David Thanks for downloading and the comments . Davy

Hi Ken, Thanks for watching. So what was it really like in those days? Just kidding. Davy

Barry, That's more like it. Great AV which worked really well. The voiceover worked a treat and effective as it allowed things to breathe. A great old world honest to goodness Hovis Bread AV. Great stuff. davy

Barry, I do a fair bit of recording audio work and wanted to have a go at making the music as a soundtrack. Got a guitar, and some decent quality audio interface/software,mics etc.Still struggling with 'Old Macdonals Farm'. But one day.... Have heard a few AVs spoilt by overcooking sound levels/effects using cheapo mics/technique and crapola Soundblaster soundcards. Not ruling out a voiceover, but the idea of recording somebody else is food for thought. Tried to open your linked AV,but unable to open using Winrar. Thanks for the feedback. Davy

Mark, The young lad was engaged in extra curricular activities. He was having a little unofficial day off from normal school work. Hard to make out what's happened to his feet, underneath all the grime. Cheers, Davy
