It comes out much the same and confirms what I said above. There is no real advantage to reduce image size when making a slide show.....IF........ your publish option is an Mp4 only
-
Your welcome, it’s not such a hard technique when you come to do it.

Piscal - I used the same settings for all 3 tests Igor - I sort of expected the same file size between images of the same pixel value 6000*4000 saved at different compression, because of the reasons you said above. That the encoders use the source images. What I have trouble with is smaller images coming out larger. I did another test just now with 16 high resolution images into PTE, where the images are all up in the 6000px on the long side. Together the 16 images add up to about 190MB. I left a standard 2s fade 7s duration and output them as HD videos, This time I selected 1920*1080 as per screen grab. File size as Mp4 46.655MB I then dragged 16 lower resolution images into PTE, where the images were 2560*1706. Together they add up to about 8MB. I left a standard 2s fade 7s duration and output them as HD videos the same as the other. The file size as Mp4 45.898MB I think I can see the problem with my logic after reading your reply and looking at my second test. I think that I have been conditioned over the years with regard to file sizes with executable files and I expected to see the same with a video, but of course if the video is being converted to 1920*1080. It doesn't matter what size the images started off at. In all my examples the starting images were always greater than 1920*1080 and that was the deciding factor. They will always come out pretty close . This all came about after I started thinking about the future and Mp4 videos. If the publish option from PTE is to be solely an MP4, there really is no need to resize images for the creation process as long as your own PC can cope what your creating

I used the default settings in the Publish HD video just changing to 60p

I was thinking today that in the future, if Mp4 videos take over as the norm for AV and presentations, which they may well do. What is the implications between images of different sizes. So, I did a quick and dirty test. 6 * 3:2AR images 6000*4000pxs saved as Jpg Level 12 and made into a 60p Mp4 = 18.177MB 6 * 3:2AR images 6000*4000pxs saved as Jpg Level 6 and made into a 60p Mp4 = 18.177MB 6 * 3:2AR images 2560*1706pxs saved as Jpg Level 6 and made into a 60p Mp4 = 19.552MB i Came back to this test on a bright new morning and got the same results. I can see how a HD video of various Jpg compressions (image sizes the same) will be evened out during the video creation process, but why are those 6 images, which are physically smaller than the others end up 1.4MB larger when made into a video, that makes no sense to me. I took those 6 images at 2560*1706 and reduced them still further to 1920*1280 and the 60p HD video then came out at 17.748MB Is anyone able to help me out with the thinking on this?

To be honest I am not sure what I want. I was doing a talk last night at the camera club and had some notes on my ipad so I had a memory jogger when the lights went out. I thought of the issue and posted it while it was in my mind.

Is it feasible and/or reasonable to request the ability to to control A PTE presentation from a smart phone or mobile device?
-
Lin Sorry to hear that, but never say never. You have from now to PTE 10 launch to fight back. best wishes

Igor thank you, but It’s what most of your customers are doing KIS
-
Well. Thank you for those kind words and all I can think of saying in response is that Photography is and Art and those who can't see that is missing an awful lot. Here we are on an enthusiasts forum on ways to present that art, so perhaps that is accepted more here then elsewhere. There is no better way than Audio Visual and PicturesToExe to present modern digital images in my view

Mur Why can't you just say you prefer to have a warning? what is it with social media that makes people feel they cannot reply without having a dig too? Can't we agree to disagree and remain platonic.

I am sure life will go on, the earth will continue to revolve, no matter what Igor decides.

Whatever software we are using there is a degree of personal responsibility involved in using it. These things that are put in with the intention to help, often infuriate others. I actually don't need or want my software to nanny me and I get tired of being asked am I sure every time I want to do something. I have an extreme example below of where I think programmers have gone mad with their clicks on how to format my Canon G16 card in camera: Turn on Camera- Press Menu - click right for tools - Click down 12 items to format - click right to select OK to format - click OK to format - Then I am reminded that all data will be lost and I have to click up to OK once again - Then click to format - even when its done I have to click OK - 19 selections to format the card Where does it end? 19 clicks later

Thanks, that makes sense of what didn't before. I was aware of the Shutter and frame rate issue, but not having any real experience of shooting very much video at all, I never joined those dots. I will have to try and remedy that a little in the coming months and see what sort of video I can produce.
-
Thank you. The shutter speed issue I Understand from the experience I gained recently with my sons drone. I as trying to explain that same thing to him as a non photographer. With the Mavic you have a fixed aperture so to obtain the 180 you mentioned, you need neutral density filters to reduce the shutter in bright conditions, which he couldn’t get his head around. So, your saying PTE output needs 24,25,30,50 and 60fps to be able to choose one, that displays the video correctly depending on the content and the way it was shot?
-
Lin Thanks for the response. I can understand the motion will not be smoother with the higher frame rate applied when outputting an Mp4 from PTE. I can carefully view the results and I see no difference that I can identify. Where another question arises is this: Tonton said that If you start from a 24fps video and go to 30fps, some extra frames are added by duplicating each 5 or 6 frames randomly. That in some cases, it is visible. If it's going to be visible from 24fps to 30fps, wouldn't it be worse at 60fps and why don't I see that? I am only viewing one 4K video where the movement within it is fairly smooth, its not fast action, so perhaps that may make a difference.
-
It's a little disappointing not to receive any answer my question above, but perhaps the perception is it's not a genuine question. Well, I can assure you it is and I am willing to be educated by those who know video. My guess is others may also like some clarity too If I have a 4k Video and the properties say its 24fps and assuming I just trim the video length a bit and then output that via Photoshop and retain 24fps Does that video still play at 24fps within a video I have exported from PTE at 60p? Or are approx 2 frames created for every one originally there and the original video is now playing at 60p?
-
I am not knowledgeable about video so I don’t really understanding why I need to know this? Are there some quality or performance issue that goes along with this and if there are, can anyone explain them.
-
I think it worth keeping an eye on the average user who just wants to drop a video into their presentation and have it work. I am suggesting that the vast majority of users want the process to be this easy and if it’s not. Rightly or wrongly they will blame PTE I can’t help but think of KFSD here, let’s not make adding video any more complicated than it already is.
-
Igor I would have to vote for your number 1 idea. Photoshop uses this option a lot and I find it very convenient, because generally we are creatures of habit. We find a setting that appeals to us and we don’t stray too far from it.
-
Igor As always I have no idea if what I am suggesting is a practical thing, it is just a suggestion and perhaps I wasn't as clear as I should have been before 1. If I add an image in O&A over a white background and apply a 6 px border in black, with a shadow distance of 4 with a size of 4 – Then I add another image to the same background the border goes back to a wide white border and the shadow goes back to default too. Its these that I would like to see remain at the last settings until I next change them. For the border I just want to tick the box, to apply my last setting Adding a shadow as a template doesn't help because you still have to go to the Customise button and click, then Drop Shadow Template and click, then Select the Pre-set and click and finally click OK. 4 clicks and I am asking that it remembers my last settings and just by ticking the shadow box, it applies it. 2. Select Cover screen from within O&A and when the next image is brought into the same slide. The mode returns to fit. This is another where I would like my previous choice to remain at least while I am working this project 3. Can the KeyFrame Time box be outside of the Animation window so I can access it easily whether I have the properties or animation windows open
-
Yes you completely overwhelmed me, let me explain how you did that. I am working in the Objects and Animation screen and I made a suggestion that some tasks could be speeded up, like cover screen, shadows, border width and colour. Your suggestion: Click out of the Objects and animation screen Click to launch Project Options Click to select the default tab Click the cover screen button Click the Apply to all slides Click OK to close Project options Click back into Objects and Animation screen Brilliant, if only I had thought of that
