Slide Styles - 3 Requirements needed
Barry Beckham replied to Barry Beckham's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
I don't think I would get too fussed how these improvements came, but numbers 2 and 3 do have workarounds, number 1 doesn't. If you're a wedding photographer as an example, you're soon going to have slide styles up to your armpits unless we can apply some order -
I have been working on wedding themes recently where the core of the show is made with slide styles. 1. We are now in need of the ability to make sub-categories in slide styles. Already my slide styles are a bit tricky to keep in order. I want to keep basic Slide Style Templates under the heading of Weddings, but away from finished styles. I want to separate vertical and landscape slide styles within the same main wedding category. I want to easily separate those styles that work fully on screen as opposed to those that bring the image(s) from off screen and I could list many more examples 2. I also have trouble with my naming regime. When I am about to create a style I cannot see others that are already in that category I select. I need to see those names for guidance on naming the new style. At present, I have to remember the name so I can follow on with some logic in the names and I cannot at this time, it's inconvenient and slow. 3. The need to add a slide style to slide 3,7,10,27,and 42 and have that slide style applied leaving the images in their correct position on the time line. At present that doesn't happen

Well, thank you all for the kind comments, but its what I have been doing for many years now. I just wonder why the original questioner does not seem to have returned to check up on their question.
-
Well, It helped me too because the question triggered an idea. The hardest part in a club situation is getting members to label their images correctly That might not be as easy as it should be.

Presumably, if we are in fact talking about applying a template, then it's reasonable to assume that we are not talking of a simple project title, but maybe naming...many hundreds of images automatically. In that case, the three slide method, which in fact started life with slide tape and is a good option, could be quite painful In fact I don't know why I used two images above. The slide styles works OK with just the text template inserted Template fade on and off
-
If the object of the exercise is to use a text template, then perhaps there is a way to do it, but it's a work around using two versions of the image in a slide style. Sandwich the text template between two identical images and instead of fading text up and down as we would normally do. Fade the top image down to show the text template and fade it back up to hide the text. Image Title with template

Change 'Default Slide Durations' for only images
Barry Beckham replied to goddi's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Well, if I make a suggestion I am not too interested in other people's views, because you can never please all of the people all of the time At the end of the day, it's Igor who has to prioritise and decide which suggestions go forward and which don't and I am happy to live with that. Imagine igor trying to include all our pet suggestions The development would grind to a stop I would suggest. No, your suggestion will not affect me at all and I wasn't suggesting it would. -
Change 'Default Slide Durations' for only images

Responses...... I think it's because some think you're barking up the wrong tree. Asking for a change that doesn't seem to be very logical perhaps. When you talk of changing slide time globally to get a project to match the music, I can't help thinking that isn't the way to go. It's the quick way, but I will take some convincing to say it's better or has any merit. Who would want to change global slide time after a slide show is made or half made? I will suggest not many because all synchronisation will be lost. Try working almost solely in the time line and add one image/video at a time and program that to the soundtrack. When that is perfect move onto the next. After all, it's the music that determines mostly where content appears on that time line. -
Change 'Default Slide Durations' for only images

I have never changed the default slide duration in project options, either at the start of a project or at any time while creating it. I work almost exclusively in the Time-Line window personally and make all my adjustments there. Good luck with your request -

Why not just exclude videos from being effected by the Default Slide Durations? Because in the Project Options the settings are designed as global setting. This would especially be useful if you wanted to tweak the overall length of the project to fit your established music length by just adjusting the duration of the images. Yes, but in doing so, surely you're upsetting all your carefully synchronised images and video. If I understand you correctly, this wouldn't be a good idea at all. I appreciate we all have different ways of doing things, but if I had my content a little too much for the music, I would find other and I would argue better ways to deal with this. Reducing the slide time overall would be the last thing I would do. -
Ys, it was. Very nice presentation

Igor user manual ?????? I am an English male, we don't read manuals we get frustrated, then annoyed and the wife reads the manual and tells us what to do

Later. A 30p MP4 plays perfectly on a more modern TV direct from the USB stick. Full screen, no loss
-
It very well could be that, I have had that player a while to. I have tried the video on a more modern TV, but it says it's not supported. Probably because I made it 60p. When I get back to my PC I will make a standard video and try that
-
Igor Just tried a 60p Mp4 on my own TV, but because my TV is 9 years old I have to play the USB through a small media box. It played OK, but I did notice that the image on the TV screen over spilled the edges. Losing a bit of the content

In my December Newsletter I featured a slide show created by Maureen Platts (LakeLand Lass) As a follow up to that I asked Maureen if she would allow me to interview her about her approach to photography and audio Visual. I had intended it as something for my newsletter, but it seems to have outgrown that. So, I will feature it here as a free standing PDF http://www.beckhamdigital.com.au/pdf/An_Audio_Visual_Journey.pdf

If you have already started your project you will need to make the change for the individual images you have already placed on the timeline via Slide Options > Main and untick the scale keyframes there too

I am always on the forum and read anything interesting daily, but I don't always feel the need to comment. Some wouldn't like my comments anyway No I have not thought of creating that technique as a style, but there is no reason why it should not be. Originally when I used the scattered pictures technique i think I showed something like 200 + images in 3 minutes. if you made a style of this type a decision would need to be made on how many images would be used in the style and you also have an issue with format. If you stayed with portrait format images you could make a slide style based on 20, 50 or more images, Generally we would create a style with, let's say 6 images and then apply that style 6 times for 36 images, but that does not fully recreate my original scattered pictures technique, because after every 6 images you would start again. Part of the appeal of the original idea was the continuos effect of dropping images onto a scattered stack. originally I created the content for this technique in Photoshop layers and used Actions to save out each image. Each slide added another scattered image and it ran non stop as if all 200 + images were dropped onto a table http://www.beckhamdigital.com.au/store/pc/Images-from-2010-71p345.htm

Denwell I am a bit late to this thread as I am away from home, but could you be referring to the scattered pictures technique. It's where the images, landscape or portrait, appear as though the author is scattering them on a table top, one on top of the other.
-
If you're a Photoshop CC user, take a look at the motion section for video. It may have what you want.

Igor Many thanks.

I have been away from home some weeks, in fact still away and I have lost track of where we are with the Exe files for Macs. I have had some issues reported from my own club members who seem to be having trouble playing PTE Exe files on their Mac's, but they are still using PTE 8. Could I ask those who use Macs to confirm that the Exe made for Macs on a PC running PTE 9 does play on all Mac systems? I am aware of the security issues with Macs that do trip some users up, but are there any others issues?

I am well away from home or I would have some older custom transitions to test. I thought it would either be a user error from the person reporting it to me or a bug. However, when the person sent me my own CT, via email this morning, it did the same for me. Igor, is this something for you to look into?
-
http://www.mediafire.com/file/j9evuhd7meu3vsp/Revolver.pteeff The above is a link to a CT I made a few weeks ago. It worked perfectly OK back then, but now it will not allow me to import the transition. Any ideas gratefully received
