Brian But that is not the issue. It has a problem that needs to be fixed, the sand box and setting it up doesn't change a thing. Its obviously an error, because you should get a message asking you if you want to open the file normally or in the snadbox. You don't get that here and it won't allow you to create an exe file. In fact it then locks up PTE and a re-boot is required, hardly normal AV activity

Geoff Thanks for that, but It will clear in a day or so when the penny drops that something is amis. This is the first time I have experienced virus software stopping an exe being created from within PTE though.

Conflow You will notice I didn't say there was anything wrong with Avast and I have no wish to move away from it. The post was to ensure Igor knew, so he could get it sorted quickly. However, some will believe its a PTE issue and when the word virus is mentioned they panic. Sooner or later, it seems to occur to most virus programs, certainly 4-5 come to mind that have all had their moments. Most put right the problem in a day or so and many people may never become aware of it.

I am aware of sandbox and even with the auto option selected it is picking up the exe files and removing them to the vault. In fact I have just discovered on another machine that its worse than that. Its also preventing an exe file even being created in PTE7

Igor and the wnsoft team Avast Virus Software This morning I went to run a short demo I made yesterday in pte7 and it was intercepted by Avast virus software and removed without giving me any option to stop it. I had to retrieve the file from the virus vault, but if I run it, Avast intercepts it again. I have informed Avast via a feedback system they have within their software, but perhaps the wnsoft team would carry more weight. This needs to be fixed and quick

Igor A couple of thoughts that came to me while using PTE today. 1. I would love to be able to click and drag the grey transition bars inside the Objects and Animation screen to alter the in and out transitions 2. To be able to see the effect of the transitions when the Play button is clicked in the Objects and Animation screen 3. To be able to turn off objects, again in the Objects and Animation screen, so they are temporarily invisible and not selectable. (until turned on again) 4. To be able to highlight more than one keypoint to move them along together in the O&A 5. I have raised this before, but seeing as I am talking exclusively about the O&A I'll repeat it here. To have the objects section looking like photoshop, with a thumbnail of the objects and the facility to drag and drop up and down the stacking order. Please, no replies about work arounds, these are just ideas for Igor to consider.

Moving Slides But Not Changing Timeline
Barry Beckham replied to HaroldB's topic in General Discussion
I think you will find Peter is right and that Hold Time points will do what you want, but it depends how you do it. You can drag and drop images from within the Slide list and the positions are held. You can remove an image from the slide list and bring a new one down and the time point is held. But if you delete 3 and try to introduce 3 new slides, the times seem to be lost. So if it is just a re-order then Hold Time Points seems OK, if you want to introduce new slides on an existing time point, do them one at a time, but then you may as well use change image file, as Peter said -
Need file name to appear under each slide
Barry Beckham replied to maderemark's topic in General Discussion
Mark For what its worth I agree, insert template doesn't give the feeling that it includes a file name. It could be better worded in my view -
I would love to see the results, but not really interested in a snap of the author, is there somewhere the winning squences can be viewed? I am sure a lot of members here would love to see them.

Igor I have a couple of suggestions that you might want to give some thought to for any future improvements. 1. Automatically create an end flag for animation as PTE does with the start flag, so when we go into the O&A, its there waiting? 2. Could a more visual way be found to show the difference between used and unused images in the file list.

Igor In the project Options More tab, I notice an "e" missing from the word image.
-
I am sure that we all work very differently in PTE Either that or I am daft, but I can't see any issues with the slide timing and it doesn't effect what I am doing in the slightest. I didn't care too much when Igor moved the Time Line/Slide List buttons to the bottom right, but I have now got used to it.

Size of Sound Files in Exe's
Barry Beckham replied to Barry Beckham's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Xaver I don't have a problem I just made a suggestion for Igor to consider the possibilities and yes, I think my tiny mind just about comprehends what I suggested. -
Size of Sound Files in Exe's

Xaver No, no, no I don't want my software to make decisions about compression for me. I sweat blood to record good quality sound comments and I want to keep them that way. -

Lin You have it spot on. -
Igor I have raised something like this before and I wonder if it is something you are able to consider at some stage, if its practical of course I just made a Tutorial using PTE, which comes out at 27Mb. Then I wanted to make a short demo of the whole thing and edited the sound file to end after one minute, instead of nine minutes. After removing all the surplus images, the resulting file was still 15Mb. Far too large for a quick demo to download from the Internet. I had to take the sound file into Audacity to edit it and then the 15Mb Exe file reduced to 2.7Mb. I appreciate what is happening here, but it would be nice if the project file retained the full sound for editing, but the exe didn't PTE members, please don't reply with lots of work arounds.

Background music and sound comments
Barry Beckham replied to aplman's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
Ken Yes I understand better where your coming from now, given that I make quite a few tutorials using PTE, I could use something like that too. Once you had your global settings you would still have the ability to adjust the volume of the music still more in isolated slides. -

Barry Beckham replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
No Ken, computers are not good for that, unless you want to hand over creative control to a computer. How will it know, by how much you want the music faded down by, for the sound comment you intend to use, it will vary depending on the type, volume, style of the background music. Surely your not suggesting that background music is cut off abruptly and started the same way, once the video sound has been heard? -
Resizing of a group of slides
Barry Beckham replied to Delicate's topic in Suggestions for Next Versions
If your a Photoshop user, CS-4 or 5, (not sure if this was included in CS-3) there is a great tool to line up hand held sequence shots that I use all the time, even for print purposes. It works in my experience 95% of the time, as long as reasonable care is taken to hold the camera as steady as possible when taking the shots. Start with the high res files, before you crop them to 1920*1080 Open both versions of your image in Photoshop and drag on onto the other to create a layer. Unlock the Background layer and holding the Ctrl key, highlight both layers. Go to Edit > Auto Align Layers and select Auto from the attached screen Grab Crop and save each layer and generally they will be spot on. -
Ken I wil probably upset some members here, but needs must. Many AV enthusiasts, including many here miss the obvious in my view when making slide shows. They do not match their images to the music they have chosen. Its rather like a visual track running alongside a sound track, but where they line up is trusted to luck. I have lost count of how many people have said to me why don't you leave your images on screen longer. Well, you can't if your matching the images to the music, which is the point, surely. Imagine standing next to someone who is clapping to music, but they are clapping out of time, that is what many people do with their slide shows. Attending to just that one thing will make their show, so much more appealing. In the timeline view, you can make your slide show on the fly, in other words you press play on the mini player and add the images/video when the music's ups and downs dictate that you should. This is difficult to put into words, but there are some places in a piece of music that you just can't have an image in screen doing nothing. The style of the music will be crying out for the image to change and if it doesn't the flow of the slide show is lost. Its the music that largely dictates when the slides should change. Try the timeline and work that way for a short while. I can't see how you can effectively put a slide show together without the timeline to be honest. Its what it was designed for or there is little point in having it.
-
Ken (APLman) When your putting a slide show together, what is it that determines for you how long your slide/video will be enjoyed (assuming we are talking here of the image once its fully revealed and before fade out) Can I also ask, do you use the time line at all when putting together a slide show?
-
Those who are confused by the slide time need to try adding video and then you will see that it is the logical choice. That time value must me no greater than the length of your video clip, unless you want the clip to come to a crashing stop before the video leaves the screen. A video clip of 15s needs 15s from when it starts to appear, until it is fully gone. This is what is currently shown to us INHO there is no point whatsoever in adding a video clip of 15s and a value in the box under discusstion of 20s, or your video sits there doing nothing for 5s. Now the art of AV is creating a smooth flow from image to image, be they stills or video. So, the setting works when you start to use video

Dave I think you use templates and pte may be hanging on to that old setting prior to beta 19. I noticed the same thing when I used the structure of an old slide show to test this. The sharper smoother still showed zero untill I did a file new and cleared the memory. -

Igor Thank you for that explanation. I can now speak about this tool with a degree of confidence in that I know what it does. With the tests I have tried in the past few days, I don't think the Moire effect is a problem any more. I think your right in what you say that in a rare occurrence of the Moire effect, the smoother tool should deal with it. In most demos it helps to be able to show the problem and then demonstrate a solution, but if you cannot produce the problem any more, then it ceases to be an issue. Many thanks
